The 26 Best Restaurants In Mumbai - Mumbai - The Infatuation

"This vegetarian restaurant in a suburban mall uses no onion, garlic, mushrooms, or paneer in its fancy but fun 16-course Ayurvedic tasting menu. They take this specific kind of vegetarianism as a challenge, embracing it to extract as much flavour from the available ingredients as possible. Even courses with a single morsel reveal bold, unintuitive flavor combinations like sunchoke, okra, and kokum, or bitter gourd, sweet potato, and raw mango. Some plates look more like sculptures or floral arrangements, and there is a bunch of dry ice, but ignore the drama, focus on flavour, and you'll see why many of Avatara's regulars choose to have family dinners and business lunches in this glacier-themed dining room once a week." - roshni bajaj sanghvi

What Is Himalayan Cuisine? Chefs Rethink South Asia’s Mountain Foods | Eater

"The Mumbai offshoot of a Michelin‑starred Dubai restaurant where chef Rahul Rana reimagines childhood sweets from the mountains—most notably a reinterpretation of bal mithai (a treat from Uttarakhand) by encasing the dessert in a chocolate rosette—showing how nostalgic regional confections are reframed for modern fine dining." - Rituparna Roy

As a whole, the restaurant was comparable to Michelin Star restaurants we have visited around the world. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely, with gentle music and a violinist playing live music throughout. We ordered the 16 course menu with wine pairing. Food arrived promptly and the waiters explained each dish and the respective pairings well. The dishes were very thoughtful and creative, adding to the eating experience. Every dish hit the spot. Overall it seemed really good value for the type of food, especially when compared to Europe, where we are from. Would recommend visiting, and will be recommending it to everyone I know.

I would have expected more from a place where it costs 5500 INR PP not including drinks. I have to comment on the hygiene of this place. If you are going to let us watch you plate our dishes then please let the chefs wear gloves and not reuse the decorative plates that you have used for the other tables. There was so many times we observed the chefs touch their cell phones/touch their hair/cough into their hands and then plate our dishes with their bare hands. Watching that made me lose my appetite. If you call this a Michelin Star restaurant I would have expected a little more for the ambience. Also if you message your guests you will be seated at 9:30 and to be in time, but yet you don’t seat them until 30 minutes later. The food I felt was also a little on the saltier side. There were some unique dishes. Definitely a unique experience but not sure it’s worth the price point.

Classy, creative and non pretentious restaurant. Each dish is so well thought, prepared and presented! Would highly recommend this for both the experience and the food. They have both 8-course and a 16-course offering. The pineapple rassam as a mocktail blew my mind. The desert with jaggery ice cream was top notch.

Dinners often lose their touch of true culinary magic, but Avatara brought it back. From the first bite ranging from sweet, spicy, crunchy, and creamy to the Five Tatvas cocktail pairing, every dish was unforgettable and each course a revelation. Beautifully presented with thoughtful cutlery and ending with the perfect palate-cleansing dessert, this tasting menu was a transcendent journey. Huge thanks to Augustin and the rest of the staff for impeccable service!

Fantastic experience throughout!! Delicious food with some extremely interesting food combinations which activated every taste bud. Reynold was a delight throughout with his hospitality and attention to detail being flawless throughout. Couple of food items felt slightly heavier on the coconut flavour side, but aside from that, no other complaints. A must have experience at least once!!!

Incredible 16 course lunch tasting menu. Each course is really well thought out with complimentary flavours and great techniques. I was really impressed with the food, staff and overall experience. What was most amazing is that the menu is all locally sourced and vegetarian, Avatara definitely proving that vegetables aren't boring! Overall highly recommended and worth making a visit!

Avtara is a great culinary experience. The flavours just burst in your mouth. Food combinations I never expected, surprised me pleasantly. Mr Viraj presented each course to us and explained the dish in details which just enriched the entire experience. Pair your meals with the wine, it just enhances the experience. Truly a wonderful experience.

We had an absolutely amazing meal at Avatara Mumbai! Every course was beautifully presented and full of creativity a true celebration of vegetarian cuisine. The mocktail pairing was perfectly curated and complemented each dish wonderfully. The service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive, and the overall experience felt thoughtfully designed from start to finish.
