Restaurants, Bars, Cafes, Bakeries, and Other Ways to Splurge in Detroit for a Special Occasion - Eater Detroit

"Head down the back alley behind the Albert building in Capitol Park to find the snake-adorned entrance to Bad Luck, where you’ll find rich gold tones and hexagon motif that set the scene for intimate conversations over experimental cocktails. Bad Luck is the spot to impress a date with theatrical, intricate, splurge-worthy cocktails such as the Hecate, made with Blanton’s single barrel bourbon, Sazerac rye, black garlic honey, saline, angostura and orange bitters, and served with a spoonful of black vegan caviar." - Serena Maria Daniels

Bad Luck Bar Review - Bedford-Stuyvesant - New York - The Infatuation

"With its red lighting, round marble bar, and oyster Happy Hour special (two drinks and 13 oysters for $33), Bad Luck Bar in Bed-Stuy is a certifiably sexy spot. And although it would make for a great first date with a bivalve enthusiast, you don’t want your new favorite bar ruined by someone who might suck. So invite a person you already love for martinis and fries, or the people who’d happily share a $45 negroni pitcher with you, crowded around a tiny table in the front window. Or come by yourself for a cocktail, some light chat with the bartender, and a thick slice of pepperoni pan pizza. Whenever we’ve been here solo, they’ve given us the corner piece, and that’s the very best one." - Willa Moore

Google
We brought our nephew here for his 21st birthday, and we absolutely loved it! While pricey, it was the whole experience that you were paying for, along with talented and fun bartenders that participated in a great conversation! I would absolutely return! Fantastic atmosphere!

Nikki

Google
This place should get 5 stars for the atmosphere alone. Tucked away in a stinky alleyway, this gem offers a quiet place for cute dates with exceptional drinks and 5 stars service. When you get seated in their slick bar or their comfy booths you find yourself served with still water and a tiny delicious surprise. They give you their menu of delicious (slightly pricey but well worth it) drinks. No one in our group was disappointed, and how could you be when your served unique cups, with metal straws at a candlelit table with great company? We came here to celebrate a birthday, and we don’t want to leave. Shoutout to Aaron and Luka for making our night memorable!

Google
“Unique” doesn’t cut it. This place is bonkers. This is one of those one-of-kind places that you pine to go back to even the next day. The location, the intimate space, the style and vibe are all exceptional. More importantly, the high level of craft is paired with their level of enthusiasm - something that is hard to find. We were helped by Matt and Eric and our experience quickly became warm and personal. Not to mention, the drinks were inspiring, and even befuddling at times. Be warned: this is certainly on the expensive side of scale, but it is not “overpriced”. You get what you pay for (and much more).

Google
An amazing experience, hidden gem. Matthew our bartender made our first time so much fun! I love the quaint atmosphere that this bar has, and given the limited seating — it makes you feel exclusive. The Nero drink was refreshing and the goat/sheep cheese to complement it, gives it an elevated feel. I’ll definitely return again!

Google
It's a speakeasy. The host and the waitress were very friendly. The drink options are very fun. Pricey but they take good care of you and give you shots which are more like palette cleansers when you arrive. I don't drink alcohol and the waitress was so accommodating and made me my own special shot. I really appreciated that.

Google
Luck Bar in Detroit is an absolute gem! This intimate, speakeasy-style cocktail bar offers a unique and unforgettable experience. The ambiance is cozy and moody, perfect for a date night or a classy evening out. Their cocktail menu is creative and expertly crafted, with each drink feeling like a work of art. The bartenders are knowledgeable and passionate, making personalized recommendations that never disappoint. The attention to detail, from the decor to the presentation, is impeccable. If you're in Detroit and love craft cocktails, Bad Luck Bar is a must-visit. It’s a five-star experience all around!

Google
Come here for a unique experience with cocktails that have a complex flavor profile. They are a little pricey but there is a true craft behind these drinks. Enter through the alleyway

John Schwenker

Google
This place is very intimate, only fitting about 20 or so patrons at one time. Makes for a very cool scene. Their cocktails are great, but a bit expensive.

Yelp
Tucked away down an alley is the bad luck bar. Prepare yourself for amazing, handcrafted cocktails. It's helpful to make a reservation. This is my second outing here. Be prepared to drop some $ since this original experience is original and singular. Came early, had some great explanations for the ingredients we didn't know about and had some great drinks. This is a great spot and perfect for special occasions! Have been here previously for a pop up event and included pics from that event as well.

Yelp
Reminds me of SG Club, from the decor, the aesthetics, the lighting, to the menu and logo. It literally felt like I was transported back to SG Club in Japan. The drinks were fun and innovative, and our server was very knowledgeable and kind. Our amuse bouche was a honey tea that was delicious! We didn't make any reservations and tried our luck at walk in, and luckily, we were able to be seated right away. It was a fun experience! The "coolest" drink I had was The Fifth Sun, which was a pineapple cocktail that came with pineapple pop rocks. If I had to compare the two, SG Club would win hands down due to innovation and experience, but Bad Luck is definitely a cool experience for those that don't have the chance to experience the SG collection!

Yelp
Bad Luck Bar had been on my list to try for a while now, and I finally got to go last night, with my fiance and two friends. The drinks and their presentation were pretty neat. They start you off with a welcome drink, as others have mentioned here; some sort of hot toddy and it was very good. My friends and I each had three drinks, which as you imagine was pretty expensive for this place. Mine were: -Persephone: good but with licorice undertones, aka absinthe I think, so wasn't my favorite. -Concordia: very "alcohol-forward," as our friends said, and not entirely for me; to me it tasted like boozy cough syrup. -The Fifth Eye: my favorite of the bunch. Definitely tasted like pineapple and coconut, as promised, and came with a sidecar of spicy pineapple Pop Rocks, which was pretty interesting. Presentation was exquisite here. That being said, I did think the prices were really high, hence why it gets four stars from me instead of five. Most drinks are $24-29, but my fiance and a friend did have one each that was $50. Other reviews said here that they use top shelf liquor and I believe it, but that's way out of my price range on a normal night out. Definitely make sure you make a reservation for this place, also; we did Mabel Grey for dinner then came here, and one of our friends planned all of it which was super nice. I would come back here again because the ambience was pretty cool, but with the price range it would definitely have to be a special night out or special occasion.

Yelp
Always a great experience with amazing customer service. Love the atmosphere and staff. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Very cool ambiance, incredibly knowledgeable and nice server and very cool, tasty, theatrical drinks! I'm currently pregnant so drink joints are usually limiting to me but they were very accommodating and made delicious mocktails for me! We had a group of 6, and although you can't reserve a table that big, we did 2 reservations of 3, emailed to explain our group and they were able to seat us all together . You must have a reservation. Between the 5 drinkers, every drink on the menu was ordered. Each one came with a special treat or decoration that made it feel like we had some entertainment! The ambiance is sultry and sexy and cool. It's not a place I would say you're staying drinking all night, but a great place for 1-2 post dinner drinks.

Yelp
A fun 90 minutes! There are two things you need to do to enjoy your visit: make a reservation (for a 90 minute visit) and walk through the back alley to enter. When you enter you walk into a small speakeasy setting. The cocktails are creative and delicious. The staff are helpful and informative.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
What a place and it is like literally going to a speakeasy! You enter through an alley way and into this small quaint atmosphere! Service was great! Highly recommend reservations because it is a really small place! No food, just drinks! Luca and Hannah were great bartenders !

Yelp
We went here for my birthday drinks prior to our dinner plans. The vibe at Bad Luck Bar was fun and original. All of the drinks were unique and tasty. My husband had the fifth sun and Leshy which he really enjoyed and I had the Persephone and the Horus. I was very disappointed though that after serving me the Horus, the part of the drink that they catch on fire fell off onto my lap and burned multiple holes into my dress along with causing a mild burn to my skin. I told the server and she said "sorry I don't know how to fix that." I asked for a marker to at least try to color in some of the gray marks from the melted material of my dress. I feel like with how expensive the drinks are that they might have handled the situation better or offered a drink or something. It was disappointing that I had to finish the rest of the night with a dress with burn marks and holes in it.

Yelp
Great little speakeasy. Drinks are fab but pricey. Love that they have a little snack pairing with their specialty drinks.

Yelp
It was fun that it was hidden like a speakeasy (I would not have found it if I hadn't seen the photo of the door here!) in fact the alley where it's located is kind of littered and run down and not entirely safe-looking, but you don't have to walk very far to find the door. Inside was a small entryway that still looked kind of cavern-like, but the welcoming smile on the hostess waiting just inside the door put us right at ease. We hadn't called first, but arriving around 7pm on a Thursday we were able to be seated. In fact we were on a nice first date and maybe they knew intuitively to put us in a cozy romantic corner that seated only two. The service was very prompt and helpful; the waiter was able to provide detailed descriptions of several of the drinks on request since unfortunately one of us did not have reading glasses to decipher the small, lengthy descriptions of the intriguing-looking drinks. When I asked if they had any, the waiter sympathetically agreed the print was small. No but seriously, you guys should keep some spare reading glasses on hand for the seniors! lol. (It starts around 40 kids, get ready!) Speaking of cozy romantic corners, it's very dimly lit as well. Which is wonderful atmosphere but didn't help for reading the very fun menus. Soo, it is pricey for those intriguing fancy drinks, and the presentation is totally awesome - both of our orders involved plenty of smoke and flames - but if you're not a liquor connoisseur the flavor may be lost on you; I mean maybe we didn't order the right drinks but they both tasted like drinks I've had before. I got a fruity tiki-type drink and my friend got a smoky whisky thing (although it was in fact the smokiest thing I've ever tasted because it arrived in a covered dome filled with dense smoke. YUM.) I would go back on my next romantic date and a) reveal to my date in advance where we're going so he doesn't think I'm leading him to be jumped in a mugging, and b) bring a small flashlight and spend more time perusing the menu next time before choosing. 4 stars.

Yelp
Bad luck Bar is a very interesting place to say the least. Their drinks are very tasty and different from other drinks I have had. I wish i had taken a picture of the drinks, i definitely recommend Bad luck Bar for your next night out.

Yelp
The most creative cocktails in Detroit? I think this fits the bill. Complete with delightful, weird, shady alley entrance. Love it. Inside is an intimate spot with room for only a small set of tables. Service is prompt and friendly, with great recommendations. Menu changes often and just oozes creativity. Expect to pay ~$25/cocktail, but they're worth it. Presentation is clearly thought out for each drink they craft and they're happy to make riffs on classics or make up something new for you as well if nothing else gets you excited. Hard to get a reservation, so better plan ahead for this one, but it's well worth the experience!

Yelp
We went out for drinks on a Tuesday and walked right in. ( took a walk around the block to realize its in the alley) enjoyed the mini complimentary drinks and enjoyed the cozy , chill, specialty cocktail vibe and smell .
google avatar

Beverley C.

Yelp
I mean if you're reading this review, just do yourself a favor and stop in. The ambiance alone is worth it in my opinion. The cocktails do not disappoint. They have a menu that has something for everyone. Service here has always been great. I recommend making a reservation on the weekends, but they do allow walk ins. We visited on a Thursday evening and they were able to seat us quite quickly.

Yelp
Intimate little speakeasy in the heart of downtown. You can find their secret door in the alley behind the building. (It's a little dirty back here-beware.) I had a mocktail version of their cucumber drink on the menu- and it was alright. I'm sure the cocktail version is better. But their drinks are creative and interesting, and a bit pricey. It's also very vibey and dark in here. The service is great. You even get a free tequila mixed welcome shot.
google avatar

Carolyn E.

Yelp
Possibly the best cocktails I've ever had, and I guess they better be at $25 each. Yowza. But the service was excellent - they really take care of you here. It's velvety and dark inside no matter what it looks like outside, and yes, you have to enter through the muddy, trash-strewn alley. I suppose that's part of the experience, and though I definitely could, I won't make fun of the fact that fancy folks love to tromp through alleys to spend $$$ on their smoky, sea grape adorned cocktails. It was fun. Definitely a novelty experience for me; a great place to bring hard-to-impress out-of-towners or potential clients or employees. Each and every cocktail sounded interesting. It's a very small space - I'd recommend reservations, and I'm very glad they take them with a $20pp deposit.

Yelp
This place really stands out in service. We got to try a very interesting complimentary tequila infused tea in the beginning. The lighting and vibes are super sultry and lowkey and peaceful. The espresso martini was alright but again watching how it's made was a sight and the overall service was what made this bar worth coming to again

Yelp
My husband and I were out for the night and in the area of the Bad Luck Bar, so we decided to try and check it out. We called in advance, which I highly recommend. This is a small space, but such a neat speakeasy vibe. You don't want to miss out! We were able to make reservations 1.5 hours before closure. Score!! We made our way to find this hideout. This bar is a little hard to find, maybe because it's in an alleyway. A little scary, but worth it! If you're in a scary alleyway, you're heading the right way. Glad I had my hubs with me! We walked into a small entrance area. The host was great. So friendly! I can't remember his name, but he was the same person that helped us on the phone too. Once our table was ready, the curtains opened up to see this great bar! We were seated at a table for two. Eric was our waiter. He was amazing! The whole night was an experience! The night started out with complimentary rum toddies. So warm and so yummy! How nice is that! The drink menu was an experience in itself. We wanted to try everything. We tried a lot of drinks! A couple of our favorites were The Sun, The Elixer, And Evocation.

Natalie N.

Yelp
This bar is a true gem! The cozy ambiance and unique drinks made for an unforgettable experience. You can tell each drink is crafted perfectly. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
What a cool, hip, unique and sexy place! The bartenders are wizards! The service was amazing! So much creativity in the drinks weather you order on or off the menu. On the menu we got the old fashion which came out of a Smokey goblet. We wanted to enjoy in the moment so no videos but almost anything brought to that table SHOULD be captured on video (or slow-mo) because it's so cool. Things are smoking or on fire or sparkling. We had a Mezcal old fashion with fancy ice cube. It was strong and smokey and spicy - just perfect. Then a bourbon old fashion and this was served with some smoked nuts - yuuuum!!! That was a perfect drink to sip, sit back, have deep conversations and repeat. Reservations are definitely needed. I loved that even for two people we had a cozy corner spot. It felt so private and fancy. Can't wait to go back!

Archer L.

Yelp
If you're looking for something different, Bad Luck Bar is the place. Perfect for date night or out with a small group of friends. Don't let the drink prices scare you. These cocktail are more of an experience than just a drink. The cocktails usually have a mystical or supernatural connection. Will for sure be back!

Randal P.

Yelp
This place definitely says "You're in the D now !" Speak easy + type vibe. Days of Prohibition with high back booth / tables, dull lite atmosphere & great spot of a "Love Date". Drinks can be expensive, but not a place to sit all night drinking either unless you're with a group for the environment or entertaining a small to larger party for Detroit effect. Quaint, quiet & can be romantic. Love the menu of kraft cocktails & your servicer will walk you through their creations with intimate knowledge of each. If you fancy yourself as a connoisseur of Cocktails - you'll enjoy this place immensely !!!

Yelp
Nice bar to start the night, good drinks decent appz. I came from out of town to meet a friend, we started here and had a great Detroit night from there.
google avatar

Dustin F.

Yelp
Quite simply one of the best bars in America. The drama of the ambiance paired with the inventive cocktails makes the cocktails worth the investment.
google avatar

Jobi M.

Yelp
Great ambiance, drinks are made just right. Speakeasy entrance. Service is great, the staff is knowledgeable about the drinks and the ingredients that go in them.
google avatar

Yelp
Bad Luck Bar is the speakeasy to go to downtown! Reservations are super recommended as I've never been able to get seated otherwise. But walking in just transports you to another world. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and is excited to bring out some of the most creative drinks I've seen in the area. Keep in mind there is no food here, just some light pickings that come with certain drinks. I had the False Dawn and was happily entertained with their egg white foam and how they were able to elevate an espresso martini into something much more enjoyable. It was just a smooth drink with an added creaminess, and there's no way I'm forgetting the chocolate covered espresso beans that just helped bring out more of that coffee flavor. Bad Luck Bar really stands out because of its attention to detail, like the imprint on ice or it's focus on highlighting other local businesses like Dessert Oasis or Sfumato! Truly something special to make sure you check out in Detroit.
google avatar

Yelp
What a fantastic "hidden" gem! This place is set up like a Speakeasy. Located down an alley, you have to find the hidden door. Once located, you call the number listed and you are greeted at the door and allowed into a dark hallway. There is a curtain shielding your view from the magic within. Walking through the curtain, you enter a fairly small room, but your eye is inevitably draw to the wall of liquor! It's amazing! The mixologists are extremely knowledgeable! These guys knew the science behind what they were doing and were quick to educate us and answer any questions we had. I enjoyed The Alchemist to start, which is served with a side of pop rocks. Super fun time snacking on these! He ordered the Oasis, which was a fruit drink with tequila. Both were delicious. We decided to have another drink before moving on and I chose The Envy which was made with absinth. My first experience with it. He got a gin and tonic. They have their signature cocktails but they will make anything you want. We got to watch them make "The Hammer" which is a smokey presentation and really fun! They have a variety of warm drinks as well. We got to sample one of their teas and it was amazing. Ok. So this place is very small. Pre Covid it may have fit 15 people at most. But now it fits about 8. You are going to want to make a reservation! Especially if you're going in the evening. There is no food so plan to eat before or after. And this place is pricey. They use all premium ingredients. You pay for quality. You're also paying for the knowledge of the mixologists and the ambience, which is incredible! Expect to pay $25/drink. For me it waa worth it! He has been here before but this was my first time and I'm so happy he wanted me to experience this! Off to our next adventure!

Yelp
A true taste of class in Detroit. The perfect little hidden speakeasy with the stunning atmosphere, a place you deafly must try when you're in town even to just have one drink.
google avatar

Deb M.

Yelp
Super cool Mad men vibes. Dark and mysterious. A cozy bar in Detroit, serving amazing craft cocktails. Don't know what you want, tell them what you usually drink and they will create something for you. Went here for my birthday and they could not have been more accommodating. We had 8 in our party and were seated in a lovely booth situation. When you reserve your space and you really need to reserve, you have the table for 2 hours. Plenty of time to sip your unique cocktail. Prices are commiserate with the atmosphere and care they use in creating your drink. Our server brought over a round of specialty shots on the house! Seek this place out.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
Great speakeasy with wonderful with people. The drinks are pricey but worth it and each one has its own little experience. For a splurge, check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
Luka was an absolute delight!! We came in with a big group of people and he was so attentive to the needs of our table. We had questions about the menu and he happily gave my party very insightful and thorough descriptions and recommendations. The ambiance is so cool, I couldn't get over the light fixtures and the intimate feel made for a really unique dining experience. The drinks are pricey, but we learned that they are carefully curated and perfected for a year before they make the menu and you can sense that in their presentation. Also, so tasty! Every drink was an experience. Delicious and so fun! Will be back again
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
This place was awesome! Definitely feels like a true speakeasy. I love the limited seating and how dark it is. Drinks were great, definitely pricey but the quality is reflected by that. When you walk in they give you a hot toddy with rum. Soooo nice after being out in the cold. It tasted delicious! The server/bartender was very nice. He was also very knowledgable. My friend and I both ordered the drink that comes with pop rocks. It was definitely very interesting and it tasted sooo good! For our second drink we asked for something similar and they brought us a raspberry drink. It was very pretty, but I liked the first drink more. My friend enjoyed both! The raspberry one was just too sweet imo. My friend also got the smokey tequila drink and really enjoyed it. It looked very cool. I will definitely be back. This place was so cool and so many people asked me about where I was because of the drink pics I posted!

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite places to go for drinks! Amazing ambiance, intimate, exclusive, and dimly lit. Each cocktail is its own unique experience.
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
Probably one of my most favorite cocktail bar experiences ever. The cocktails and presentation is so worth the price. A garden of delights. But, the funniest thing was when a guy at the table next to us was brought this amazing golden, slightly sparkling drink in a tall pilsner glass. I asked the waitress, "what is THAT?" and she said, "Miller High life." I said, "What?" She said, "miller, as in the beer" and I just howled at that. Also, that guy signaled to all that he was the cheapest dude in the room. LOL.

J K.

Yelp
Wow, what an experience! From the hidden speakeasy vibe to the incredible presentation, everything was great. Very small, very pricey...but worth it!
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
Bad Luck Bar is a must do for anyone who enjoys great cocktails. It is truly a Detroit destination. Everyone in my parry was blown away. Each and every drink was unique and delicious, with creative presentation and often a little side garnish to go with it, ranging from more traditional spiced cashews to housemade melon and mint pop rocks. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and made the experience one to remember. The bartender, Matt, mixed the best cocktails I've ever had. My cousin, who travels often and actively seeks out unique high-end bars wherever he goes across the globe said Bad Luck Bar is one of the best he has been to.
google avatar

Arturo F.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try Bad Luck, and it was a fantastic experience! It was a Saturday night, so I did call ahead at 5 pm to request a reservation for 8 pm (highly recommended to call ahead since this place is tiny). We hadn't received our call telling us to come in, but we were nearby and walked by to check how far down the list we were. The hostess was super accommodating and let us wait by the rail in the back while our table paid and was cleaned. The drinks were expensive (think $22+ per drink) but honestly worth it, as not only was every drink delicious, but each came with a bit of a "show" -- whether it had literal gold dust on the rim, was encapsulated in smoke, covered with "dinosaur eggs," or had a stick of burning cinnamon, it was all fun and intriguing. Between my friends and I, we tried Inception, The Father, The Hammer, Propogation, and two other drinks I can't remember. Everything was great. I'll definitely be back! If it wasn't quite so expensive it would be a monthly go-to, but it's still worth it every once in a while.
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
The atmosphere is SO COOL! Nothing like I've ever experienced. It's mellow and inviting, with some crazy tasty cocktails to pair w the experience. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking to have some well crafted cocktails.

Yelp
Intriguing to find and that's the fun of a place like this. (Down the back alley between Griswold and Woodward. Tip: park in the garage above Avalon) Five star atmosphere and vibe and five star service! And maybe it is because we came here on our holiday bar crawl that started at Sugar House and Standby, truly tops in hand crafted, well designed cocktails. But both drinks we ordered here were definitely 3rd place behind those two places and the price was more than double at Bad Luck. (And atmosphere and service are both stellar at the other places as well) I do love that there was a hot toddy starter offered free while you wait for your drinks. (Not really free if you spent $28 for one cocktail though). I had the Dream II, which was a boozy hot chocolate with "marshmallow foam" and a Milano cookie. (The square cookie you get in the Christmas tin with the chocolate topping, see pic). I thought it was super strange to put a packaged cookie on a $23.00 cocktail?? For $23, Avalon is ACROSS the street??? Order made-in-Detroit drink cookies for the season and leave the Kroger cookies out of it, lol. I forget the name of the other drink, (See pic), which was lovely to look at, very strong and nice but outdone at Sugar House just the hour before, . (Again, for half the price) So come here to Instagram the kitschy "smoking" cocktail that other Yelpers have mentioned but this is really a "checked the box" kind of stop vs somewhere you return to. Btw, we were here on a Tuesday evening around 6:30 and there was seating. This is a very small place so don't wander in expecting to sit during high times.

Mary M.

Yelp
10/10 favorite bar everrrrr. Drinks are so cool, unique, different. I love how it's a small, intimate spot. Highly recommend

Yelp
My friend took me here and I thought it was super cool. It felt like something straight out of a Portlandia episode. LOL. First of all, you enter through a back alley door...that took us a few min to find. My friend warned me the drinks would be pricey and I told her don't worry, I've been splurging a bit on food. But yes, even I was a bit surprised with how much the drinks were. I think I paid like $18 or $20 for mine. (For context, I lived in LA in the summer and didn't pay that much for a drink :p). The service was great. The drinks were so much fun. Mine came with banana chips and my friends came with pop rocks. They gave us a complementary "hot toddy" that was beyond delicious. I would have just ordered that TBH. It tasted like rice pudding. I def can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
Went to this spot on a random date night and Omg this place did not disappoint! The new drink menu was right up my alley. Alchemy is the theme! Drinks are a little expensive but absolutely worth the price. My sever was amazing and I love the exclusivity of The Bad Luck bar I will for sure be back.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to experience this speakeasy without reservations. It was a very slow weekend in Detroit with nothing really going on. It's a very unique space once you get inside. The drinks are pretty expensive but you're paying for the experience. We ordered a few different drinks and I only liked the coffee one, forgot the name of the drink. We think you should experience this at least once!

Yelp
AMAZING atmosphere and everyone who worked there was really nice and helped us out with picking the perfect cocktails for us. Andi was wonderful and seriously the best waitress - our convo was great

Yelp
This is probably one of the coolest gastropubs in Detroit. It's hidden in an alley with a snake on the door, so it's pretty hard to find. It's an incredibly small area, surrounded by a few bar chairs and about four large booths. The bar only holds 42 people and they are very strict about that rule! So don't be surprised if you're on an hour wait near 10 PM on a Friday night. Jay, my bartender of the night, was phenomenal on selecting drinks. He deserves a promotion because he knows what he is doing! He stirred (or shall I say shook) up some amazing cocktails. All, in which, have food inside of them. The drink menu is specialized and start at $18. Some drinks can go up to $200 and shots are near $70. This is definitely a must go-to when you want an intimate night out with someone and not looking for a wild crowd that parties and dances all night.

Yelp
I came here a few weeks ago on a Friday night for a friend's birthday. She rented out the bar for the night which was an amazing first experience. I've been wanting to come here for a few years and am so glad to have finally got to visit! The drinks were beyond incredible. My favorite was the specialty drink with champagne and homemade pop rocks, but they also made drinks off the menu which were delicious. The decor in the bar is very chic and modern. I also loved the different glasses they used. The cherry on top of the night was realizing they closed at 11 pm, at midnight. I know they all must have wanted to go home but they kept offering to make us drinks/were so welcoming we didn't realize it was time to go. I was very impressed with the service and will definitely be back!

Yelp
We are super happy Covid did not kill this little hidden gem. Reservations are needed to grab a spot, but you may be able to score a table impromptu if you call the number on the door and speak with the host! The drinks are so over the top, the presentation is award winning! Know it takes about three weeks in advance to score a table here, and it's well worth the wait!

Yelp
This place is so cool. First of all you enter through an alleyway and you have to call to be let in. This place makes you feel exclusive. We had to have reservations.... It took about a month to get in because they were so booked. It was defiantly worth the wait. The drinks are amazing ... and STRONG. The alchemist is my favorite ! The also give you 2 shots in the house of a couple of their specialty drinks. $25 per drink ... but it's definitely worth it ! I'll definitely be back

Yelp
I had a really strange experience at Bad Luck. I was with a group of 6 people, all of which were clients of mine, and we just had a great dinner. A person in our group recommended we head to Bad Luck since he heard it was a really cool spot! We did some research, and we were all really excited to check it out. We arrived and called Bad Luck, who told us we would be next to get seated. We waited in the alley in 15-degree weather for 30 minutes (a mistake on our part), but we were eager to check it out. Another group of 4 showed up after we were waiting for 25 minutes and asked if we were waiting for a spot, and we said yes. We all waited for another five minutes before the hostess finally opened the door and said our table was ready. The group that had just arrived hastily moved through the door in front of our group. I quickly followed and told the hostess that we'd been waiting for 30 minutes and that we were the ones that called earlier, and the other group had just arrived. She replied, "we're not letting you in because we heard one of your guests 'say the f word' on the phone." I was a bit confused and still am to be honest. I pushed back a little more, only to be met with, "you aren't getting in, and you're never welcomed back." Verbatim, those were the words that were used. So not only did we not get to check out a spot we'd all heard good things about, but Bad Luck knowingly left us waiting in the cold and told us to beat it when our table was ready. It was a real shame. I hope this doesn't happen often, and I hope whoever visits has a better experience than we did.
