Easily one of the best bagel spots in the city. The House Special - fresh lox, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, and capers - is a must. My girlfriend got a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel which was also delicious. They have some outdoor seating as well as some indoor with a few barstools. I haven’t had a wrap from here here but hear great things.

Really great bagels! I was a bit shocked at the house bagel special price but maybe I shouldn’t have been. It was bagel and lox, for $16. The bagel itself with cream cheese is about $4-5. You could definitely share a bagel and lox though between two people. On that note, the cream cheese and salmon were delicious. I’ve definitely added this place to my favorites in the area! It’s usually really busy but they are really fast! Under $6 requires cash though :(

I hadn't had a true New York bagel in a hot minute, so this scratched the itch. Scallion cream cheese (you have your choice of maybe 6 different flavors at this hole in the wall bagel shop). Toasted sesame bagel. And a hot coffee. The perfect Manhattan breakfast.

Visited Bagels & Schmear with a few friends for a quick breakfast. Visited during a busy Sunday morning, ~10min wait. I ordered a vegetable wrap, which was very delicious. Staff was very friendly! Small space, so not an ideal spot to sit inside but there’s outdoor seating during the warmer weather. Definitely recommend checking this spot out!

Honest review: Come get ya a bagel from where the locals get their bagels. They are fast, friendly, and no frills. I like that combo. Awesome traditional New York City bagel shop. Fresh bagels, many varieties, great sandwiches, and fresh coffee. My go to is a whole wheat everything bagel sandwich with cheese, egg, and bacon, and a coffee. A tip, arrive early on weekends, as it gets busy after 10am.

Incredible bagel. Crisp outside and soft inside. Got the bacon egg and cheese on a garlic bagel and it was delicious. Coupled with a nice hot coffee, it was the best start to a rainy NYC day. Line was nearly out the door, but they moved through it in about 10 minutes.

Very good NY style bagels! The staff were very efficient and quick. That feeling like “they know there drill” and hear your customizations. The bagels have a great crust! The bite and tinsel of them; not too hard to break your teeth, or too leathery, but still holding together without becoming too crumby. Inside was light and airy. The everything bagel too with the perfect amount of seasoning sticking where you’re ready to eat 6 in a sitting! The only downfall was the ordering system; even though it’s “NY style” it’s confusing to guests without a rope to know who’s in front of who and who’s already ordered and who’s waiting to pay. Otherwise, a great spot with great prices for Manhattan!

While wandering through the city on a leisurely weekend stroll, I happened to come across Bagels & Schmear, and I'm so glad I did! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked goods filling the air. It was impossible to resist, and I knew I had to try something. Their selection of danishes immediately caught my eye, and after much deliberation, I opted for the blueberry and pecan varieties--both of which were absolutely phenomenal! The pastry was light, flaky, and buttery, with just the right amount of sweetness, and the fillings were rich and flavorful. Beyond the delicious treats, the ambiance of the bakery itself was warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to relax and indulge in a sweet treat. You can tell they take immense pride in their craft, as every pastry and bagel is made with care and baked fresh on-site. If you're a lover of high-quality pastries and authentic baked goods, this place is an absolute must-visit. I'll definitely be returning soon to explore more of their menu!

We love this place! We were in town for a week and we came here for breakfast I think 5 times. The staff is very friendly, but this place is super busy so you need to know your order by the time you get to the counter. If you come at a slower time they will chat with you and make recommendations. Over the week we tried the plain bagel, everything bagel, and the onion bagel. I will say my favorite is the everything bagel and I love the scallion cream cheese. The coffee is pretty good, nothing special there. GET THE PISTACHIO MUFFIN!!! The pistachio muffin was something we ordered a few times because it is just that good. Don't let the long line scare you, it moves pretty quick.

The best Everything bacon egg and cheese bagel I've ever had. We did get lucky though, the bagels just came out the oven and were steaming. Hint: If you are in a group, I suggest everyone order their own order, that way you have multiple people working on the order. If one person orders for the group, one person will be working on that large order and it will take longer. You will be awkwardly standing and waiting while others sail by you. I didn't mind because we were able to snipe the precious stools inside on a freezing December day!

Bagel & Schmear is COOKIN UP THAT GAS. This is a great bagel sandwich and the dudes taking orders in there are friendly and on top of it. Not the common New York bagel shop vibe. They have a great system in here and an even better product. The bagels are so fresh and the eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection Lucky for us, we're staying close to here. Might have to be a daily try. Cheers!

The pumpernickel bagel was exceptionally good. Very efficient line. I can see why this place has so many positive reviews. Well toasted bagels with great flavorful cream cheese. Great to come here before catching a train to Grand Central

Awesome bagel shop! My friend who is a former local recommended it to me, and I had to make sure I checked it out while I was in town. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. I got a lox and cream cheese everything bagel. It was super well done, and it's a classic for a reason! How lucky New Yorkers are to live in a bagel city and have access to this gem every day. The atmosphere is lively, so long as you keep it moving, and the staff is super sweet and diligent. Great experience, definitely come get your bagels here!

Walkable from my hotel so I chose this since I was dying for a New York bagel. They had lots of bagel and cream cheese options, as well as breakfast sandwiches and pastries. I got a jalapeno cream cheese with egg whole wheat bagel - it was good! The cream cheese had pickled jalapeños in it vs fresh, but it was still tangy and spicy

My favorite bagel in Manhattan! They offer vegan cream cheese in a few flavors and the cream cheese to bagel ratio is perfect. This place is so much better than any of the tourist bagel spots around midtown.

Great place for bagel take out. This small snug shop has a few available seating spaces outside. We took ours to go... The display cases take up a large portion of the shop where they have a plethora of items to add to your bagel. Initially, I felt overwhelmed. No need! The very friendly gentleman behind the counter came around to explain each flavor to us. They also have a vast variety of pastries to try. Definitely will be returning. I didn't grab a coffee, so I cannot review their coffee. It looked like a simple drip coffee set up.

Probably some of the best bagels I've had in Manhattan. Wait times can be longer especially on weekend mornings but the staff is always pleasant and the bagels are excellent

A true New York bagel. The bagels were hot and fresh every time. They have a great variety of cream cheese, the bacon cheddar jalapeño is my fav. They also have a lot of other breakfast items like pancakes, French toast, and omelettes. But the bacon egg and cheese bagel with scallion cream cheese was unreal

Bagels and Schmear was the best bagel spot that I found in NYC! I'm no expert but this was a perfect scallion and cream cheese bagel in my opinion. Perfectly salty, bagel was perfectly toasted, cream cheese was warm and creamy. The worker who helped us was also very friendly and helped us decide what to get. Great spot!

Great Bagels in the city. The the menu has lots of options, the order line moves fast and the staff awesome! It's a fun atmosphere!

Loved the energy of this shop right when I walked in. The workers were incredibly friendly and welcoming! I ordered a House Special bagel and thought it was great. The bagel was toasted well and had a great texture. Loved the combination of refreshing tomatoes, rich cream cheese, and salmon. It was a very filling breakfast, but I didn't feel too heavy after finishing it!

This place isn't on every "best of list", it's mostly a locals bagel shop, but that doesn't mean it isn't fantastic. Of all the bagels I've eaten in New York, the ones from Bagels and Schmear are consistently my favorite. They're everything a New York bagel should be, fresh and chewy. They also make the best avocado cream cheese with chunks of fresh avocado, scallions, and magic mixed in. My go-to spot when I'm in the city. I heard lots of regulars ordering the bacon, egg, and cheese -- next time!

Delicious! Got the everything bagel with avocado cream cheese (has actual chunks!) as well as the house special lox bagel. Line looked long but moved efficiently. There were spaces to sit but since space is small most people were getting take out. Will definitely come back for more bagels!

First breakfast in NYC in years and I chose Bagels & Schmear. First rate bagels, coffee that rivals Starbucks, and fine customer service.

The most efficient service and friendly as well! I was recently on a trip to NY and visited here twice because the bagels were that good! I got their house special - lox bagel one day and an egg and cheese bagel the other. The house special is the best! I would definitely recommend them and will be back next time I'm in NY.

Quick and easy to order, limited seating. Plain bagel w/plain cream cheese was pretty great, simple but a classic. Taste was great, only complaint was the texture which was tough on the outside and chewy on the inside but not bad just could have been better. Marble pound cake looked fire but tasted mediocre. Overall if you are looking for a quick convenient bagel I would definitely go!

Lots of choices for food! I've got their lax bagel, it was great. Big enough, a lot of salmon, just perfect. Grab the coffee someplace else, go to a nearby park - perfect lunch plan!

Got a turkey bacon egg Swiss sandwich on an egg everything and it was perfectly portioned. The bagel was chewy and soft and my friend got the lox and also really good, not too much cream cheese which we liked!

Fast paced take out only establishment. Friendly service. You order at the far end of the counter then pay at the register by the door. Good chew on the bagels and ingredients are fresh. The mochachino was good as well.

Fast friendly service and pretty good bagels. Tried both regular tuna salad and chicken salad -- they were ok, not sweet, but not amazing. It works but I'd go to Ess a bagel or pick a bagel for better tuna and chicken salad.

Bagel Heaven!! Got a serious Italian-like Bagel Sandwich and a Bagel with Salmon and Cream Cheese that were over-the-top when it comes to taste! Definitely hit the spot and tantalized the tongue. Reasonable prices, extremely fresh and tasty!

Moved to the area recently and this is our third bagel place we have tried so far. The best so far!! you will most prob see a line outside the door all the time but its so worth it and line goes by super fast. They also have a wide variety of creme cheese. Their muffins are just cherry on top. Will defo return for more of those yummy bagels and muffins!

Amazing no-frills bagel shop. This is kind of place I look for when I want a good bagel. No BS and no weird cream cheese flavors (I'm talking like Confetti Birthday Cake, strawberry cinnamon blast, etc). Just solid service and great bagels. Lox are also delicious and coffee is good.

What a delicious bagel! Stopped by for an "everything" bagel toasted with jalapeno cream cheese! It exceeded my expectations! Great flavor combo and everything was so fresh! Grabbed a couple cookies too! Don't be scared off by the line, it moves quickly. Prices are very reasonable too! We will be back!

Probably my favorite bagel I've had in NYC (marginally better, but still). The bagel was massive, good chew/crisp outside ratio. Ingredients were all very fresh and the egg was cooked perfectly. The line was to the door when I visited in a Sunday at noon, but it moved quickly and I got my food in about 15 minutes. They have a large variety of items on the menu which would be interesting to try. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area

Bagels places are a dime a dozen in the city but very few are as consistent as Bagels & Schmear. This is my favorite east side bagel spot, you can always find a line going out the door here. The memory of the staff is impeccable as order details are very important, who wants to get home or get on a train to find out they fucked up your order? The staff is very friendly and patient, unlike other joints, and they actually put the salt pepper ketchup for you instead of directing you to packets!! Their coffee is decent and cheap and they have a plentiful selection of bakery goods if you have a sweet tooth. Will be returning often and sending people here for a while. Worth a visit if you're ever on the east side.

I understand "toasted" but this is just burnt. How do you look at this and go "yes, this will be good to serve"?

Perfect New York deli breakfast. Usual variety and then some. Loved that they had whole wheat everything and whole wheat, sesame seed bagels available! Variety of breakfast sandwiches and smears including raisin walnut a light variety, cream cheese. If you don't want a bagel, they also have multigrain toast or wraps. all kinds of sandwiches breakfast sandwiches with healthy options such as turkey and turkey bacon all the workers were beyond friendly and very accommodating. They do not skimp on the sandwich fillings, and there are also a variety of omelettes to choose from.

Best bagel and schmear ever!!! I ordered the everything bagel with the sun-dried tomato smear. My boyfriend ordered the House special bagel sandwich with smoked salmon and capers. The line was almost out the door and it was made to order. I love that they offer the bagels to be warmed up in their very cool and efficient, bagel warmer that zips around inside the machine. The tub were fabulously showcased inside a glass case to choose from. The consistency of the bagels. Chewing us was perfect. The staff members were very efficient and friendly. This is definitely worth the wait and I would come back every time I am visiting New York.

The bagel shop that got me into bagels ;) We got the plain bagel plus sun-dried tomato cream cheese and it's amazing. I think I prefer the savory cream cheese here. We have also gotten scallion cream cheese, which is also really good. Recently we tried strawberry cream cheese, which I did not love. There's always a line, but it moves fast, and there's usually space to eat inside or outside.

Every trip to NYC, we make a point to stop here as soon as we get in and usually stop again before leaving. They are efficient, have an experienced staff and are SO friendly. Best bagels in the city!! Only one little table outside on the sidewalk, best to take it to a local park and enjoy!

As you know, NYC definitely has one of the best bagel in USA. I would 100% agree. Compared to other bagel places, this place seems relatively hidden gem that there weren't an excessive line outside by 10AM. I tried their Lox & scallion spread on everything bagel. As you would expect from NYC, bagels themselves were SOOO good. They were chewy & had a great balance with cream cheese. Be aware that there is nearly no seating. It is very tiny cafe. Also they close around 3pm. The owner was very friendly if you have hard to choosing bagels!

There was such a long line on Saturday morning to Bagels and Schmear. We had the breakfast ham/bacon sandwich with egg on everything bagel. It was filling and prices were very reasonable for NYC, hence the line. They serve deli meats, pastries, and baked goods, along with multiple variety of beverages.

If you want a variety of bagels and schmears for an affordable price, Bagels and Schmear is the place for you! I had an amazing onion bagel, lox spread, salmon, and all the works. The bagel was toasted well, and vegetables balanced the saltiness of the salmon really well. Even though the place was crowded during breakfast, I was out of there at a reasonable time. There's even seating outside if you aren't on the move.

wow! a delicious bagel and the service here is fast and precise and individualized. we walk in, it's a narrow shop only about three people wide if they stood shoulder to shoulder, and head towards the back. the cream cheese flavors are in the counter and bagels in a billboard on the back. the man asks us, have you been here before, we say no. he says i'll help you what do you want. we order. he asks us if we want our bagels toasted. we say yes. he holds up the fresh bagel which is still steaming (from being made??). he goes do you still want the bagel toasted. we go no. he's like alright and spreads the cream cheese for us and wraps it up. we head to the cashier and pay, cash and card good. this experience all within 10 minutes. fantastic. lox cream cheese has bits of lox in it (5/5). getting bagel toasted maybe not necessary actually (3/5). garlic bagel toasted got burnt garlic so i shook them off (4/5). eating the entire bagel and getting food coma (probably will happen so only eat half for breakfast). bagels normal schmear are 4.95, lox schmear 6.95. what a deal. i have come twice in the last two days

Loved every moment and every bite. The guys were so welcoming and efficient. They were helpful, kind and patient. The bagel is what I've been looking for in a NY bagel! Crispy outside and soft inside. I had a plain bagel toasted with light scallion and cream cheese and an everything lightly toasted BEC. The flavors were just perfect. Perfect amount of salt, great ratio of all the ingredients. They have a little seating indoors and outdoors. We were able to have our stroller inside tucked close to the back and we didn't have a problem. Thank you!

They continued to charge my credit card months after I bought a bagel here. Filed a fraud claim with cc company.

I went today with my friends. People kept coming on line, it was clearly the place to be. I'm an avocado girlie and the avo cream cheese is something I desperately want at all bagel shops. Plus the hazelnut iced coffee was amazing. Yum!

My favorite bagels in NYC. Both the bread and the filling is real good, a good ratio of bread to filling.

Best bagel I had in nyc, went back two days in a row to get them and they're fantastic. Did a bacon egg and cheese, cream cheese on an egg everything and then everything with cream cheese and veggies. Highly recommended this bagel shop and will return on our next trip to nyc.

My first bagel in NYC did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this simple food that was made so well. From start to finish the line goes by so fast, and there was always an employee to help if needed. The restaurant is a bit small, but there was decent amount of outdoor seating. This seemed more so like a place to grab your food and eat in the go or at home/work. My bagel was great! It was soft yet had a nice bite to it, and it wasn't too dense either. The cream cheese was really flavorful, and the ratio of bagel to cream cheese was great. Sometimes, places will put too much cream cheese, which I don't ever mind, but this bagel had just the right amount. Highly recommended trying!

I've been to New York twice, but I have been here 5 times if that tells you anything! I have tried their salt and garlic bagel, plain bagel, and everything bagel with egg, cheese, avocado, hash brown, and pastrami. The fact that I can put a hash brown on my bagel here is what makes this place all the more better. I have also tried their cinnamon bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese and oh my god do they load up that bagel. Their staff are fast, efficient, and give the exact experience that you'd expect in a New York deli. This place is my go-to!

Finally tried bagel and Schmear! I have to say that I found the bagel a bit underwhelming- I thought it lacked salt. The pastries were delicious though, especially the cheese danish

Fast & speedy service! When you come in go to the counter where the spreads are & order. Then after a but go to the counter & pay at the register. Get your warm fluffy original New york BEC! I love how the bagel was warm & crispy on the outside, but still very fluffy & soft on the inside. There are different types of house made cream cheese spreads if you want an original bagel. They had options for fresh OJ, bottle drinks, and fresh coffee. The menu doesn't stop there, if you want to get something other than a bagel. They have different customizable sandwiches too. The best part I really appreciated, was the side wall had stools to enjoy your bagel & cup a Jo peacefully, or if you like they double pack the bagel so its not greasy for on the go.
