Bao Down delivers a sharp, confident punch of flavour from the first bite. The cucumber salad is bright and ridiculously fresh, the prawn sesame toast is clever, crisp and genuinely memorable, especially with that knockout dipping sauce.
The chicken bao is packed with bold, layered flavour, but the beef short rib bao steals the show – melting, pull-apart meat wrapped in a cloud-soft bun. The cauliflower “cake” is an intriguing mix of textures and greens, surprisingly enjoyable and definitely different.
If anything fell short, it was the crème brûlée, which didn’t quite hit the high bar set by the rest of the menu. Still, Bao Down is a top-tier spot: inventive food, welcoming service, and a great upstairs deck that sets the tone just right. Epic work all round.
