The 6 Best Union Market Restaurants 2024

"Bar Boheme’s stunning turkey sandwich, the Tacchino, is piled high with fresh vegetables, green goddess sauce, and carved meat that will make you wonder why you bother eating that deli stuff. The turkey is juicy, the bread is fresh, and the radicchio adds a touch of bitterness. Be ready to open your jaw as wide as it’ll go, because this sandwich is thick (as it should be, for $16). Chef Alex McCoy’s Latest Stall at Union Market Riffs on European Sandwiches - Eater DC

"For his latest grab-and-go venture at Union Market’s food hall, Lucky Buns chef Alex McCoy goes all in on European-styled handhelds filled with freshly sliced and cured meats. Bar Boheme opens in early January with over a dozen paper-wrapped sandwiches that run the Old World gamut, embracing nostalgic favorites from England to the Mediterranean. At Bar Boheme, homemade pork rillettes, grilled Thai herbal sausage, mortadella, and cured salmon will play a starring role in rotating sandwiches. Building blocks of buttery focaccia, Spanish rustic bread, and multigrain loaves will be baked fresh in the stall every morning. Bar Boheme packs a sensory overload into one small space, from hearty slabs of Italian pork roast (porchetta) sliced behind the counter to vats of bubbling confit. Bar Boheme’s booze list centers around natural biodynamic wines by the bottle or glass, bitter aperitivo cocktails like Negronis on tap, and pours of France’s popular anise-flavored spirit Pastis. Also look for Belgium and French beers and Brittany ciders." - Tierney Plumb

The person who I talked to knew his stuff about sandwiches, and was passionate. Service was immaculate, and I appreciated his knowledge and recommendations. Ended up getting the Reuben, which is the most popular sandwich. The bread is the perfect consistency, color and flavor. The cheese to meat ratio is A:1. It was delicious, with many working parts in the sandwich, but it delivered a pleasingly simple taste when the sandwich cocktail was assembled. I commented to the person that helped me that the ingredients worked together like the Sandwich Avengers. 10/10 Ambiance is good. Seems like each customer gets individual service, and there were free chairs to sit.

I LOVE a good Rueben right. I found out that this sandwich, & cocktails spot, in Union Market, has spicy sauerkraut on theirs!! Guess what I’m getting!?! 😂 . Where I am: @barbohemedc inside of @unionmarketdc . Location Reviewed: 1309 5th St., N.E. Washington D.C. . Menu Includes: Craft Sandwiches that include an Italian, Rueben, Club, B.L.T, Tuna, Salt Beef, Cocktails, & MORE!! . Their Fancy B.L.T (with smoked bacon, local tomatoes, arugula, herb dressing, & it’s on French bread $16.). STAMP!! PLENTY of crisp bacon, fresh bread…tasty!! Their Rueben (with a salt beef, spicy sauerkraut, dill pickles, Hapsburg cheese-Swiss, remoulade, on Caraway rustic bread $18). STAMP!! Thick protein, well sauced, buttery, & mildly spicy!! Their Fruit Tarts (an apricot, & raspberry fruit filled pastry 2 for $10). STAMP the apricot, flaky, & fruity. The raspberry was DELICIOUS…good, a tad bit bitter. Their Salt Beef (Salted beef with spicy English mustard, dill pickles, on a rustic bread $18). DELICIOUS. Tasty, thick, I got a couple pieces of overly salted beef that was hard to un-taste. Their Blackberry Spritzer (with blackberry liqueur, lemon soda, & gin &8). STAMP!! Lite to the taste, but strong with gin!! Their Cheese Toasty (with Gouda, Gruyere, cheddar, white cheddar, & leek onion on rustic bread $11). LIKE THAT!! Fragrant nutty cheeses, & buttery savory bread!! Their Pumpkin Cheesecake ($10 a slice). LIKE THAT!! I would’ve STAMPED this warm, sweet, flavorful cake…the crust was just was just a lil cajun for me!! Their Mimosa ($5 ALL DAY). STAMP!! Watch out you might catch the tipsy off this jont! . Customer Service: On Point . Online Navigation: Easy . Parking: DECENT but it can get ROUGH. . Recommendations: Everything STAMPED!! But try the Cheesy Toast too!! . Music:YouTube-Rare Essence Mickey Solo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=STAMP ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕=LIKE THAT ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️=DELICIOUS ⭐️⭐️⭐️=DECENT ⭐️⭐️=PASS ⭐️=NAH #Bigschlimsreviews

My man Daniel hooked me up. One of the best sandwiches of my life (Tacchino), the fries were fresh, aioli delicious… what more could one want. I think same owners as Lucky Buns which is also dope. Highly recommend and just what I needed!! High quality products… a sandwich is only as good as the sum of its parts. Thanks for the care and efficiency Daniel!!! Keep it up

Google
Ham and butter sandwich was too salty. Baguette was not crusty. Salt beef was tasty.

Yelp
Bar Boheme makes a great sandwich. My husband loves their Italian sub. It's one of the best Italian subs you can get in DC. We also tried the Rachel sandwich, which was very yummy. It was like a grilled cheese with a pickle!

Yelp
Bar Boheme's sandwiches are delicious and a fair price for the size. Although they cost $15-$18, they are easily two servings. I tried the Tacchino and Reuben recently. The Tacchino was the better and more interesting sandwich, thanks to the variety of ingredients. It was great! The reuben was good but a pretty standard reuben, nothing special. I visited on a Tuesday early evening and the sandwiches were ready quickly, in only a few minutes. Union Market was not too busy. This is a sandwich counter with a few seats, so it's very barebones. Beyond the main sandwiches, the shop has a few other menus and items on offer. They have happy hour M-F 4-6 PM with $7-$8 drinks. Signs advertise $5 mimosas all day and $12 bavarian pretzels. There's a "larder" menu of various packaged food items. My two suggestions for the owner: post a photo or two to help people understand the size of your sandwiches, so they are less likely to balk at the menu price; consolidate your menus a bit so there aren't ~5 different menu signs.

Yelp
Great sandwiches. Quality house-made ingredients, everything is made fresh and made to order (which can take 10-15). Both the reuben and lastarria were great, delicious bread and components. The thai sausage/sai oua is super flavorful, the salt beef is delicious, pickles and spicy kraut also tasty. Great addition to union market Overall thought the sandwiches are filling but I thought they could be a touch bigger

Yelp
After brunch at Pastis, a couple of us grabbed cocktails from Bar Boheme inside Union Market. My fiance enjoyed a Pastis cocktail while the rest of us enjoyed the Spritz De Mure cocktail. The bar was occupied, so we enjoyed our drinks while walking around Union Market.

Yelp
BEST Rueben sandwich of my LIFE. The meat was thick cut and cooked perfectly. The flavor profile was insane. The slaw was to die for. And I don't even like Rueben's normally!! SO MUCH FOOD. One half is big enough to be one sandwich on its own. The guy working there was super nice and the price wasn't bad. TIP: add the roasted tomato's, they are fire!!! There is lots of seating in the food hall and outside too where there was a little thrifted book fair. Would 1000% go back.

Yelp
This shop inside Union Market has been open for just a little while now and serves an impressive number of sandwiches, mostly tending in the British/American style. The sandwiches run around $15-$20. I tried a Ploughman's sandwich, which has ham, caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, some sweet-spicy pickle-chutney element, and some greens and mustard on a nice seeded sliced bread. The menu said it should also have Irish cheddar, but I figured out only after I scarfed it that the cheese was missing. Overall it was tasty and pretty hearty, if a little light on the ham for the price point. I'm only able to give 3 stars, though, because it look a full 20 minutes to get me this sandwich, which of course takes assembly but isn't, like, cooked, so I couldn't tell why it took quite this long to stack a sandwich. And while the staff were friendly enough, they didn't offer a "sorry for the wait" or otherwise acknowledge they were backed up. It was during the lunch rush and they had some other orders so I don't mean to say anyone was slacking, but I think they'd need to work out their staffing or something to make the wait a little shorter. I'd still try some of the other offerings and hopefully things smooth out service-wise as they keep going. And their website promises cocktails soon, which I look forward to trying too!

Yelp
Stopped in for a cheese toasty and was so pleased! I love grilled cheese so getting an awesome meal of a fancy perfectly grilled sandwich fuuuullll of cheese was perfect! I definitely want to return and try the other offerings.

Yelp
Sandwich was pretty big and delicious!! Had tasty spreads and sauces and the bread stayed together to hold in ALL the bacon. Loved it!

Lisa C.

Yelp
This might be the best sandwich place I've ever eaten at. We got the Club Royale and the Tacchino and shared between 3 people. We could not finish it all. Absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back to DC. Small bar for seating and great cocktails.

Yelp
Our first time to visit Washington DC. Collette tour brought us to Union Market for our lunch hour, and we are so glad they did! We first walked around to see all that us available here, and decided to split a Reuben sandwich at Bar Boheme. Fresh made bread, salted beef, special remoulade sauce. This sandwich was ANAZING! You can't go wrong if you stop here.
google avatar

Soraya Z.

Yelp
Excellent sandwich. Pricey as far as sandwiches go, but comparable to Union Market prices. They also have happy hour drink specials, including a couple spritz options.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
The stand-out here is the salt beef, but if you want something very slightly less heavy the club royale is a solid pick. Nothing wrong with the jambon buerre at all, especially at its price point, but spend a few dollars more and get something that will really knock your socks off. Very nice people who are passionate about their house made proteins. I have heard they can run out of their signature meats, so go early. I can't really knock them for union market's chaotic evil brunch vibes.

Yelp
Got the Italiano on baguette bread and I was looking forward to the focaccia but by 4pm there was only baguette but that didn't deter me from trying. The first bite was fantastic highlight to my day. A perfect homage to Italian flavors and the sandwich was perfectly crunchy and delicious. Will definitely comeback to try this with the focaccia bread I'm a fan.

Yelp
Food was excellent and the staff were super nice and friendly. Sister restaurant of Dukes Grocery and Lucky Buns.

Yelp
This sandwich was incredible. And The Irish cheddar on it is a game changer. Will definitely be back soon

Yelp
Great sandwiches - all funky and made with fresh ingredients. We tried the Club Royale and the Taccino and both were great. The ciabatta bread was excellent!

Yelp
