Seasonal Japanese bento boxes, natural wine & sake served in a charming counter-service cafe.
"Bento Picnic & Saba San’s at 2600 East Cesar Chavez Street in Holly is adjusting hours due to the winter storm." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Bento Picnic is one of the best places to go if you haven’t seen a vegetable in three days. They specialize in seasonal Japanese-inspired bento boxes, with a big focus on local produce. Most of the boxes and bowls start with a vegan base, with the option to add some protein—like shiokoji-braised brisket or miso-ginger chicken sausage—making this also one of the best spots to visit with your plant-based friends. In the back of the restaurant, you’ll also find a small shop specializing in natural wine and sake, so you can easily spend one or four hours here. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary
"Bento Picnic owner and chef Valenti opened the restaurant first as a farmers market stand in 2015 and then the physical space in 2018. She expanded with a retail wine shop within the space — Saba San’s — in April 2020. Bento’s regular space isn’t impacted by Sushi|Bar." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Los Angeles Sushi Pop-Up Comes to AustinFormer Top Chef contestant Phillip Frankland Lee brought his Los Angeles restaurant Sushi|Bar to Austin in the form of a pop-up this winter. The nightly omakase takes place within the indoor private dining room of East Austin cafe Bento Picnic. The $125 six-seat meal will feature 17 courses plus drinks and desserts (hamachi and sweet corn pudding, roasted bone marrow with wasabi, roasted soybean sherbert)." - Nadia Chaudhury
