"At her new restaurant, Bernie’s, Molly Yeh serves hotdish in a small iron skillet. Flavors rotate but her renditions are topped, reliably, with golden tots. Bernie’s menu has a little bit of almost everything that defines Yeh’s cooking, including elements of her Jewishness and Scandinavian influences, distinctly Minnesotan dishes, and, of course, there’s hotdish." - Justine Jones
"Molly Yeh is the bubbly personality behind the Food Network show Girl Meets Farm and the recently released cookbook Home is Where the Eggs Are. Now, Yeh is bringing her recipes to Bernie's, a new restaurant named after her daughter. The menu, which will soon expand to include dinner service, blends Midwestern flavors with some Scandinavian influence. Yeh also adds “a touch of Jewish flare,” to her menu, as she told Forbes. Think smorgasbords, whitefish toast, and halva walnut scones. This space was previously home to the restaurant Whitey’s, which was open for almost 100 years. Bernie’s will take on the historic location with three distinct concepts: one centered on carryout and counter service, one on table service, and one a market featuring Yeh’s favorite pantry ingredients and Bernie’s merch. For those obsessed with Yeh’s playful desserts, there will be a rotating pastry display, with the likes of sprinkle cake donuts and frosted almond cookie bars." - ByKate Kassin
"Food Network star Molly Yeh’s new restaurant in East Grand Forks is inching closer to opening. Bernie’s, named for Yeh’s first daughter, will have three separate areas: Bernie’s Farmhouse, a full-service restaurant, Bernie’s Cafe, an all-day cafe, and Bernie’s Market, a retail space for pantry items, cookbooks, and other wares. The menu is rooted in Midwest and Scandinavian food traditions — think rotating hotdishes, roast chicken with potatoes and carrots, and hand-rolled lefse for brunch. Bernie’s cafe will focus on grab-and-go items like open-faced sandwiches of smoked whitefish, salmon, ham, and egg salad, and knoephla soup, a creamy German dish. Bernie’s is taking over a historic art deco building on the banks of the Red River, with more than 160 indoor seats and another 60 on the patio. An opening date hasn’t been announced yet, but expect sometime this fall." - Justine Jones
"Bernie’s will celebrate Midwest traditions (read: hotdish) in a vast, Prohibition-era brick building on the riverbank. 'Midwest traditions, Scandinavian flavors, local ingredients, and REALLY GOOD BREAD will come together under one roof for a magical delicious cozy wonderland called BERNIE’S!' A cookbook author and food blogger, Yeh became a Food Network star in 2018 as the host of Girl Meets Farm, a show highlighting Midwestern farm cooking with influences from Yeh’s Chinese and Jewish heritage. Bernie’s is named for Yeh’s first daughter, Bernadette, who was born in 2019. Although specific menu details for the restaurant have yet to be announced, Yeh’s posts mention 'good bread' and hotdish, a pinnacle of homey Upper Midwest dining. The Instagram video seems to show Yeh and her team testing out fried fish filets, egg sandwiches, and a salad of smoked salmon, greens, parmesan, and soft-boiled eggs. Bernie’s Midwest menu will be served in East Grand Forks’s historic Whitey’s Underground building, a former speakeasy." - Justine Jones
