The 19 Best Restaurants In Montauk 2024

"Bird On The Roof feels like it was designed exclusively for folks who miss the city’s busy coffeeshops, eavesdropping while remote working, or just slightly overpaying for lattes and toast. This seasonal Aussie coffee shop offers third-wave espresso drinks, plus a sunny, chill cafe serving all types of brunch dishes. You can get things like housemade granola on coconut yogurt and a warm grain bowl topped with a runny egg and roasted vegetables—all of which might be a nice break from vacation chicken tenders. The blueberry buttermilk pancakes and steak frites with chimichurri and aioli are also excellent." - melissa kravitz hoeffner, team infatuation

Beautiful cozy place for brunch! ❤️ They have really interesting selection of lattes 🥰 People are so accommodating and you feel right at home! it's helpful to reserve a table specially during summer.. we didn't reserve but it was on a more quiet day cause it was raining prior.. but you could see how it could easily fill up...food is fresh and delicious for sure!

Google
Very friendly, polite and attentive service. Quick too. I appreciate those kinda business traits dearly. Food was delicious as well! Can't wait to come back. Not a drinker but Bloody Mary had me feeling nice.

Tucked away with a cozy, laid-back vibe, Bird on the Roof delivered a brunch experience that was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we walked in, the cool, welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a relaxed morning filled with delicious food. We shared the Shuka, two eggs choice, and Not Your Poppy’s Banana pancakes and everything was amazing! Definitely recommend this spot.

Google
Service (4/5): I liked how the waitlist was on OpenTable so you could monitor online when your table was ready. Once seated, we were checked on regularly. Atmosphere (4/5): The inside is small but cute decor. The outside is covered, which is where we sat. So the noise was low so we could hear each other. Food (4/5): The curly fries were delicious! The burger which we asked for medium-rare was cooked completely uncooked! We had to send it back to the kitchen. Luckily, the next one was cooked medium. The fish sandwich was delicious. The watermelon spicy marg (Spicy Bird) was phenomenal, just wish it wasn’t $18!

Google
Cute spot with a great vibe for brunch. However, the food looks better than it tastes. Breakfast menu is a bit limited. Latte could be a lot better. Reservations are highly recommended.

Google
A favorite spot for decades. Last time we visited the wait was about 30 mins but we grabbed a counter spot by the bar right away. The vibe was fun for a Saturday afternoon. Everyone having a great time at the bar talking to each other. I noticed how they were cool with allowing dogs. That’s a note worthy plus. I recommend the Bloody Mary. Very yummy, strong too! Hit just right. The breakfast sandwich and pancakes were delicious too!

Google
My previous review holds! Last night was just as good as the first one our annual trip. The scallops were outstanding. Our server Michael was great. Last year I wrote: Hands down one of the best dinners I’ve had in Montauk. Don’t miss the crab cakes or the short ribs. Their take on a kale Caesar is delicious. Coconut bread pudding is to die for. Plus outstanding cocktails and great atmosphere with good live music. Highly recommend 👌

Google
5 stars – A truly special experience! We absolutely loved our time at Bird of a Roof. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with an elevated yet relaxed vibe that made us feel right at home. Every detail of the experience was thoughtfully executed—from the beautifully presented, delicious food to the genuinely attentive service. A special highlight was meeting the owner, Leo, who personally came by to check in with us. He was incredibly down-to-earth, generous, and authentic—his passion for the space and the experience he’s created really shines through. This place is a gem. We’ll absolutely be back!

Yelp
The food felt basic. The home fries somewhat interesting... Service was good and consistent. Packed. We came based on reviews and I keep reminding myself that I need to keep perspective on the demographic of each area :). Well. Interesting environment and ambience. Music too loud for our liking or for convo. Inside seating. I would love to sit at the back.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite breakfast spot in Montauk. I would definitely try to go for dinner and drinks next time I'm in town. The staff is very friendly and efficient and the food is always prepared hot and in a timely fashion. There is something on the menu for everyone. I love that they don't forget extra condiments when you ask- which may seem silly but no one wants to start their meal with a critical sauce missing. Hello all my condiment people. Looking forward to another visit soon!

Yelp
We had high hopes for this restaurant which was quiet at 6.45. And the temporature was pleasant so we ate outside. We both ordered a Smashed Burger. It only came well done. Had pickles, a pretend piece of of lettuce, some kind of orange colored sauce and a slice of orange cheese. Only the pickles added any significant flavor. The rest of the vegetables were non-existent. It was served on a brioche bun that was nicely toasted. The burger at $24 was pretty bad. If you like McDonalds you would like this burger...I take that back, you would prefer McDonalds because it didn't cost $24. The fries that came with the burger were tasty...even for something out of the freezer. Gosh, I just hate having fake french fries. We also both had margaritas, The flavor and the little bit of OJ I asked for were nice. What would have been better was the size of the glass. It was small and crammed with ice . It would have been yummy if the $14 drink had some alcohol in it. The atmosphere was lovely. But there was a service charge. What's with that? Sorry to say, I reduced the tip because of that. So in summary, the bun was the highlight of the meal. Go to McDonalds instead.

Yelp
We stayed a couple days at Dante's Albatross who recommended we make reservations for breakfast & dinner. We ate here three mornings in a row & every dish was fabulous. The service was great, all the staff was very kind. We enjoyed the clean, nice yet causal decor.

Yelp
Bird on the Roof offers good, healthy breakfast options, and the patio seating is a nice touch. Everything we tried was decent, but the place leans more Instagrammable than flavorful. Still, the staff was friendly, and it's a great spot to enjoy a casual breakfast in Montauk.

Yelp
3% ADMIN FEE?? We've been coming here for breakfast for almost 10 years. We've experienced some subtle changes over time, but nothing as disappointing as this new theme. This isn't your fun, bustling, go-to breakfast spot any longer. There's barely anything on the breakfast menu that would be worth returning for. Eggs? You get two eggs any style with bacon or sausage and a few skimpy potatoes. PLASTIC CUPS FOR WATER?? Does washing glassware cost that much and detract from running an efficient operation? Have you asked customers if they prefer plastic with their water? Have you considered the waste produced every hour from your plastic cup use? HOW RIDICULOUS! NO OMELETS! They wouldn't even throw in a few veggies with 2 scrambled eggs. They were literally scrambled without seasoning and that was it. BUT, there were sauteed mushrooms AND broccolini in another dish! You can't put those in the scrambled eggs?? This establishment has severely disregarded their dedicated breakfast audience in lieu of making a night time bar house. They transformed a wonderful yearly tradition into a black sheep. The Bird on the Roof is not a family breakfast spot and we will no longer return. What a shame. AND a 3% ADMIN FEE? Well, the owner decided to completely disrespect their hard working, dedicated staff by forcing customers to reduce their tips commensurate to their new ADMIN fee. What a slap in the face to the servers and an insult to their loyal customers. So sad to see a good thing buried in the sand. I recommend visiting the pancake house across the street instead for a more family focused experience that won't leave you disappointed.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The seafood was fresh, the staff were friendly and very accommodating with my kids and the cocktails were divine! There are two sections of the restaurant and we were seated by bar. I do recommend to call ahead - there was a large party that night and our family snagged a 5:45 pm reservation! We ordered the crab cake, tuna, mussels, and a burger with fries. It was very delicious. My most favorite dish was the mussels in the white wine sauce and my least favorite was the tuna. The tuna wasn't the star of the dish and I didn't like the overall flavor of it - a lot of acid. The bartenders definitely know what they are doing here! I ordered the breakin bad cocktail and I was drunk :) The staff were super attentive and I was so appreciative of their patience with my kiddos. Now for what we all have been waiting for - the dessert! Please get the coconut cake with ice cream! The vanilla ice cream has vanilla bean in it and was divine! There is no photo of the cake because it was eaten in 5 seconds flat. The other dessert mascarpone berries was lovely as a light dessert option! But I am still thinking about the coconut bread pudding and the vanilla bean ice cream!!!

Yelp
It's a quaint spot, the staff were friendly. The coffee was a disappointment we tried multiple different drinks hot and cold and they all lacked the delicious flavor of coffee. The shakshuka was absolutely delicious, though I do wish it had more than one egg. Their home fries were creamy and delicious and an absolute must!

Yelp
Very busy spot close to hotels & the beach. Came in early afternoon and didn't have to wait long to be seated. Food was really good and they serve breakfast for a good amount of time, can t remember if all day or not.

Yelp
Bird on the Roof was a nice surprise! I made a last minute dinner reservation for a group of 6 the day after July 4th, so I was glad that they had space. We were running a bit late and they managed to move our reservation with no problem. Upon entering, we met the host (and apparently owner?), Leo, who was super welcoming and kind. Best of all, when I jokingly asked our servers, Danielle and Mike, whether Leo would take a shot with us, without hesitation they said yes and later came out with tequila that Leo and Danielle both took with us. It really brightened our mood, and we'd gladly come back for the service alone. That being said, the food was pretty good! My friend and I split the tuna and risotto. Both were flavorful and cooked perfectly. We also got mussels, prosciutto, and tuna tartare to share with the table. The mussels were my favorite, while my friend loved the prosciutto (she's Italian and was relieved to have good prosciutto on the table). As a tip, I would ask about what special cocktails off the menu they have - we were treated to a hawk tuah, and it was definitely Instagrammable and made for some laughs when it came out.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious. Very nice atmosphere, love the picnic tables. I had the smoked salmon toast (minus the rye toast) this dish was fantastic, the crème fraîche tasted so yummy. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Would definitely be back again soon.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about this place. From the staff (so friendly, attentive, welcoming and lots of fun) to the ambience to the cocktails and the food, this place is a must visit in Montauk. Dinner was divine, the truffle and mushroom risotto special was chefs kiss. I hope they make it a permanent addition to the menu. The prawns were cooked to perfection and the crab cake was flavorful. We loved this place so much that we came back from brunch the next day. For some reason, it's so so hard to get scrambled eggs right when you go out for brunch. Everyone overcooks them! It's not that hard but every time, overcooked! But at Bird on the Roof, they were cooked to perfection and the burrata and pesto was so fresh and a perfect accompaniment. I want to come back and try every other dish on the menu. Special shout out to Travis for making the best cocktails and being so much fun, and Leo for being the host with the most! Run, don't walk to this spot in Montauk!

Yelp
A really adorable little brunch place in Montauk! It has a cute farm-to-table like vibe. I got the lavender honey latte, which was nice and had a very strong lavender aroma. And I got the egg sandwich, which was quite yummy and filling. It was very crowded, but they were able to accommodate a walk-in party of 6. Staff were also very friendly, particularly the bartender who was nice enough to walk over our drinks from the bar. Really lovely brunch experience, and definitely would recommend for anyone staying in the Montauk area!

Yelp
Lovely stop!! My husband and I have been in Montauk this week, had to try this place, our last night and wow so delicious!! So happy with the pre fixe option!! Lobster Bisque, kale Caesar, green curry w veggies, burger and amazing coconut bread pudding with vanilla ice cream!!! Sooo full!! We are from NYC felt very cozy, like a local joint we would go to when home!!great service too!!
google avatar

Marie H.

Yelp
Nela was great. Best time to go is when it is less crowded. The ambience is great. Small place with lots of flair. Entertainment appears on certain nights. Great outdoor area where pups are welcome.

Yelp
Bird on the Roof 47 S Elmwood Ave, Montauk, NY 11954 5 stars I went to Bird on the Roof for brunch alone on a Monday morning in the summer and was seated immediately before the rush hit. By the time I left, the place was packed! I can see why - the food is great, there's a full bar, and it's an adorable brunch place in Montauk, near the beach. I ordered the avocado toast with scrambled eggs, latte, orange juice and it was delicious. The service was also excellent. My server was friendly and attentive, and she made sure that I had everything I needed. Overall, I had a great experience at Bird on the Roof. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was fun and lively. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great brunch spot in Montauk. Tips: Go early to avoid the rush. There is limited parking, so be prepared to park on the street or nearby. They are open for all meals, so you can come back for lunch or dinner too!
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
We had a wonderful Saturday breakfast here. While there was a 25 min wait, we were able to sit at the bar right away (first come first served). I had the vegan yogurt, sliced banana, blueberries, homemade granola, and honey drizzle. (Still thinking about it!). So good and so filling! I also had a side of scrambled eggs. Need protein. Perfectly cooked. Hubby had the blueberry buttermilk pancakes - he loved them. They have a full bar and coffee drinks. They are open for lunch and dinner too - menu looked good. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Bird on the Roof offers a good variety of breakfast/brunch items. Excellent service, and solid food.

Yelp
Not sure where to start. To drink I got a spicy marg that was not at all spicy. The ambiance gives Olive Garden in Albuquerque. The decor is blue sheets on the wall. They have a prix fixe menu but it isn't on the menu anywhere. We only saw it on yelp, it's not advertised. We went with that. I got the hummus, curry, and coconut bread pudding. The hummus was the best part but it is lowkey impossible to mess up hummus. The curry was wildly salty. I love curry and could not finish it. And -- get this, they accidentally brought me out curry with chicken (I didn't order chicken as I don't eat meat), I dipped into it, the manager realized the mistake, grabbed the dish and *immediately* served it to the correct guest. YIKES. Good thing I'm not sick? For dessert my friend ordered the mascarpone cream with berries. Only to find out they were out of it. It's a prix fixe menu? So instead she got the blueberry gelato and it was super freezer burnt. In short, would not come back here and would not recommend to others.
google avatar

Toby L.

Yelp
Cycled here for brunch. Sat in a covered outside area. Had a couple good options, avocado scrambled egg and burrata, also a yogurt and granola bowl. Tucked away down a side street but worth the extra 2 minutes to walk.
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
We ate here 2x during our weekend stay in Montauk, both times for breakfast. Each time it was great. Breakfast sandwich, pancakes, shakshouka,... everything was delicious. Service was polite and it has a great vibe. We were very impressed and hope to be back soon!
google avatar

Tracy B.

Yelp
Lunch with a friend at this casual cafe. The hostess & server were very pleasant. We sat "outside" which was a tented area in the back. It was comfortable. I had the Warm Grain bowl, which was absolutely delicious! Roasted carrots were substituted for the Brussel sprouts which the server informed me of when I ordered. A very nice lunch!

John C.

Yelp
Great place for Martinis by Malcolm. Food is lovely and the staff was great ! Walked 1 block to get there. Cosmos you say ??? Fantastic. Go to the website for hours they vary.

Emily S.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing. The menu is small but mighty, you cannot go wrong with anything you decide to order, brunch or dinner. My personal favorite is the green curry which is packed with flavor. Most important, the espresso martinis are the best in Montauk, and possibly the world. Additionally, do not sleep on the specials of the night, husband couldn't stop raving about the pork Milanese. This a family run establishment with connections to the hotel across the street. Great atmosphere and all around family friendly.
google avatar

Pb And J.

Yelp
It's $23 without tax for 3 small pancakes and 3 pieces of bacon - we are starting off on the right foot! When we got there, our table was so cramped that my caboose almost beheaded the baby at the table next to us. And then the old broad at the table on the other side thought she would have the same issue - only problem was her cheeks were thinner than my pancakes. Food was decent but not for the portion and price. We could have easily made the food at home. Also, why do they have an administration fee of 3%?
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
We had a weekend " Staycation " at Daunt's Albatross Motel in Montauk - which included a gift voucher to " The Bird "; Daunt's sister Restraunt across the street. What a wonderful experience. Welcoming and professional staff, a nicely varied and reasonably pmenu and a great atmosphere! Highly recommended- we will definitely return.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the exquisite establishment known as Bird on the Roof, and I must say, it was truly a remarkable experience. From the moment we walked in, my friends and I were greeted with warm hospitality and impeccable service. The ambiance of the restaurant was sophisticated and elegant, creating the perfect setting for a formal gathering with friends. The decor was tastefully done, with attention to detail evident in every corner of the space. As for the food, it was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was expertly prepared and presented, showcasing the culinary talent of the chef. The flavors were exquisite, and every bite was a delight to the senses. Overall, my friends and I had a great time at Bird on the Roof. The combination of excellent food, top-notch service, and a refined atmosphere made for a truly memorable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a sophisticated and enjoyable evening out with friends.

Yelp
I got so sick after eating here. I'm not sure if it was the appetizer or my dinner but within an hour of eating here I was sick to my stomache. Extremely unfriendly environment. Owner Was a nasty woman

Karen M.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way into Montauk for a quick breakfast and we're pleasantly surprised by the great menu choices and good food ! They were busy but Service a bit slow and food not real hot! But still very good!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Came here for a late brekkie and as promised, there was a line But it was well worth it - the staff were accommodating & so friendly! Allowed us use the counter instead of waiting for a table! Had the highly raved egg sandwich & Classic Breakfast and both were egg-cellent! (Sorry had to!) Will definitely revisit :)
google avatar

Sophia B.

Yelp
Very popular breakfast joint in Montauk! Waited about a half hour for a table on a Saturday morning in the summer. The patio was very nice. Phenomenal lavender honey latte! My boyfriend was excited about the banana pancakes. The brioche bun on the egg sandwich was incredible.
google avatar

Darian B.

Yelp
This restaurant was awesome for our large party (10). The owner took us to our table and walked us through the menu and gave us his recommendations. The service was great and the food was delicious - also noting that it was very affordable and the server brought us a free dessert at the end. I know this is known as a breakfast spot, but dinner is well worth the visit. The espresso martini Jell-O shots are a must try!
google avatar

Jon S.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. While spending the weekend in Montauk, my wife and I quickly set our sights on Bird On The Roof. Plenty of excellent reviews and positive vibes pulled us into this establishment. We took in the sun on the patio where you quickly absorb the fun and laid back energy of Montauk. We first ordered pistachio lattes which warmed our Sicilian hearts, and moved on to sample a few of the egg dishes. Both cooked to perfection. There's nothing laid back about the effort put into executing these dishes. Vibes were good, food was great. 8.5/10

Kay V.

Yelp
Soooo delicious. The staff is kind and attentive. They even gave our baby a free onesie.
google avatar

Courtney D.

Yelp
Yummy brunch spot in Montauk! Fresh food and good brunch cocktails. We enjoyed the salmon, egg sandwich, egg and burrata toast and fries. All were delicious! Service was a little slow but it was fine as we were not in a rush. Def recommend!

Yelp
This place was adorable! Food and service great ! They were very attentive to us with a small baby too! Thank you for everything. Felt like all employees really cared

Yelp
Whirl stay in Montauk last weekend my family was looking for a place for breakfast. We decided on the Bird on the Roof. The restaurant is off the main road. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. Their breakfast selection was great and their home fries are awesome. Definitely will be going back out next visit to the area.
google avatar

Kate Y.

Yelp
Love this place! Great service and breakfast! I always come here when I'm in Montauk, NY.

Nicole H.

Yelp
So happy we made this our breakfast spot in Montauk. The Shakshuka was the best I've ever had!
google avatar

Adeline J.

Yelp
We had a GREAT time here thanks to the live music. Kind staff, too. I cannot speak to the food, as we only had drinks.

Edward L.

Yelp
Interesting but expensive. Food portions are fine. Pleasant staff. My wife had eggs; bacon; rye toast well made. I had at very tasty (real) crab cake no extras. It's the East End just before Memorial Day. Bring plenty of cash.
google avatar

Debra B.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful evening here. We had the fluke with fennel salad and the gnocchi. They both were delicious. The fries with aioli sauce were perfect! The bartender made an excellent old fashion. To make the night perfect, they had live music! The singer had such a beautiful tone to her voice as she played the guitar!just sheer contentment! The owners and their family were so very nice! We will be back next year!
google avatar

Jale B.

Yelp
Food was on point, service was good and the drinks were sturdy! Sitting outside was. Ice considering the sun was out!
google avatar

Katherine M.

Yelp
Great food, has Thursday night trivia night which we were not expecting so that was a surprise. Tasty cocktails menu too with unique options. Nice outdoor back patio which has better ambiance than the front outdoor dining.

Michelle P.

Yelp
We had a fabulous brunch there! The service was perfect! The pancakes with blueberries were delish! We sat outside and soaked up the atmosphere! We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Adorable brunch spot in the heart of Montauk. We reserved a table outside to enjoy the beautiful summer morning. I ordered the soft scramble toast, which was heavenly. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The dish has a fresh, herby taste given the basil olive oil drizzle (yes!) and it's topped with burrata (yes!). I also enjoyed splitting a Bellini with my husband, who also enjoyed his shakshuka dish. Definitely want to come back to try more goodies for brunch or dinner!

Barbara M.

Yelp
Unique breakfast options, wonderful tasting breakfast with great service, highly recommend.

Margie C.

Yelp
Fabulous food and service. We stopped in for dinner and it was simply delicious. Will make it a regular stop whenever we're in the area.

Peter P.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Food, service and ambiance was very good.
