what a wonderful gem! It is definitely catered to more of an older crowd, but every single dish was absolutely delicious. It makes a really cute date spot too! The service was wonderful, the ambience and vibe of the place were also great. I would definitely go again if it was closer to my apt! we got the lamb chops, a glass of wine, the scallops with orzo pasta and I would 100% get all these dishes again. Very fair prices for Manhattan. I believe it may depend on the season but there's a nice outdoor space at the back too. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone in the area looking for some delicious and authentic French cuisine. as a bonus, they even have frog legs on the menu! The dessert we got was crème brûlée and it was also incredibly tasty. Amazing dining experience and highly recommend!

Great French place full of local people. Everything we ordered was delicious— we especially enjoyed the mussels and the rack of lamb. Service was spread a little thin— our waitress never once refilled our wine, and our dishes lingered for longer than we’d expected. Also, and I know this is not the reason to go out to dinner, but the bread and butter were surprisingly pedestrian and beneath our expectations for a French restaurant. All in all good, would recommend.

Ah, the duck at Bistro Vendome is simply divine! Cooked to perfection, each succulent bite is a testament to the chef’s skill and dedication to quality. Whether it’s the tender duck confit or the crispy duck à l’orange, the flavors are rich and satisfying, leaving you craving more. Pair it with a glass of fine French wine, and you have a match made in culinary heaven. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on the duck when dining at Bistro Vendome.

Fantastic French Bistro, I felt transported back to France the culinary journey was simply amazing and the service perfect.

Very accommodating. Had a res for 3 but our party always over orders so we usually need a larger table and space for our dishes. They sat us at a table for 4 with the agreement we finish up before the next res comes in. So thank you for the small things like that. The Food!!! Amazing! Served fresh, Hot and full of flavor. I slept on this location and I shall never let it go. This is a great place, calm setting, fancy interior, great vibes. Another must visit and eat location. Staff was so nice and very helpful. The seating in the back was very nice. I loved it. Had a nice breeze and plenty of shade with a very city view. All and all the food speaks for itself and the pictures do no justice.

Such a lovely neighborhood French restaurant. Stopped in for dinner and the space is just so nice with friendly service. I didn’t have a booking so sat happily in the front but they do have a very nice terrace in the back - which I look forward to experiencing on a future visit. I’d been craving beef tartare and theirs was spot on. Accompanied by an artichoke salad and a glass of wine - of which they have several options - it was an excellent dinner.

This restaurant was a mixed bag. I thought the food was very good. However, in my opinion, the service was poor for a restaurant in this price point. Part of the problem was rooted in how crowded it was this Saturday night. The crowd make the check in process chaotic. Getting a drink at the bar was slow. Then the service at the table was poor. At our table, a guest had to ask for water 3 times and it took about 25 minutes to get that water. Once we sat down, getting drinks from the bar was a lengthy process also. I get that it was very busy, but they seemed to have plenty of wait staff. The service improved substantially towards the very end of our meal when many guests had left and the restaurant was half empty. I imagine the service might be better when the restaurant isn't so busy. Since the weather was awful, nobody was eating outside. However, the food was excellent.

Food was great, wine was ok for the price, service was good. Tried the cassoulet, which had pork, duck confit, and sausage. The duck tasted great, and so did the beans which had absorbed the flavour from the rest of the ingredients. Had the haut medoc by the glass, tasted to expectations, med plus tannin, some black fruit, paired ok with the cassoulet, nothing exceptional but typical of the price point. Bread was ok, could have been fluffier and with more flavour, butter was decent

Lovely local French Bistro. Off the beaten path but worth the couple minutes extra to get to 58th & 1st. French chef (I believe the owner) with a generous bar and easy comfortable French bistro appointments. Highly recommend the hanger steak frites and the escargot and onion soup as starters. Bronzino and tuna tartare equally standards on their own. Specials are French inspired and the wine list includes Argentine and American labels. Run don't walk for a cozy liaison - if you can get a reservation.

In 2018, my ex at the time and I broke up and I left public accounting to pursue a not so toxic and happier moment in industry. I decided to join Equinox as a way to make myself got to the gym. If you are spending $200+ a month on membership, you end up going to at least break even.. I took a boxing class and met a bunch of like-minded women and we've been friends ever since. However, life took its course and we all got busy with work, personal, or work and person that we do not take classes together anymore... After a long time, some of us decided to meet up for a brunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Someone suggested this place so we went here since the east side of the city is more convenient than the west for us. I pass this area every week to go boxing, but it is tucked away in a small street to be seen. It was a bit "hard" to find, but it is such a cute little roustic place. The girls got the lamb chops because it was recommended by a mutual friend and I got mussels escargot style. My mussels were fine, but oh my gracious, the lamb was the best I've ever had. There was one partially eaten lamb and I had to take it home. French onion soup was fine, but by the time it came to us, the cheese solidified and it seems they burnt the cheese a bit. A bit bitterness from the cheese. However, the soup itself had such good flavor. For dessert, we had creme brulee. Good custard, but the sugar on top needed more melting. We were crunching on the semi melted sugar bits. Cocktails were delicious ! I got the Place Vendome because 1. vodka 2. it has the restaurant's name. Duh! Boy after two or three, did it creep up on me. I will 100% go back here and get the lamb. It comes with a potato gratin and a side salad I think? The best lamb chops I had ever! Super impressed and I am trying to find reasons to go back there! Highly recommend.

Great French neighborhood bistro located in Sutton Place. It's a good idea to make reservations as it gets busy at times; especially on the weekend. They have a bar where you can eat and or drink. It has French culture, as the staff is mostly from France or a French speaking country. The menus are seasonal and many dishes are good to try at least once. You can always get mussels with various sauces and pomme frites. There is a classic hamburger, steak and steak frites. An appetizer if onion soup and escargot are available. The duck or lamb are good. There is a garden for the spring/ summer in back. Two levels of dining make the restaurant layout seem slightly larger. It's good for couples, solo or with friends. It seems to be medium range in price as it's not haute cuisine, but it's not super casual. There are impressionist style posters of Parisian ladies, cafés/cabaret, and lifestyle scenes, the expressions are written in French.

Scallops were the star of the show. Make sure to eat the mussels with the bread - it's genius

Came here at our Mother's request. This mom and pop is the absolute best. The service is great as well as the food. We had the garlic mussels, YUM- my sister in law had the frogs legs that were delish and my mother and I shared the mussels along with the steak; all fantastic. Perfectly seasoned. See my pictures of some of things we ate. And the ambiance is lovely, private- they have outdoor seating in the back. No bad seats. You can sit at the bar if you like. They also have a good wine menu. A+

One of our favorite restaurants in the area! We enjoy the ambience, wnd the food and cocktails are great as well. The French onion soup is so cheesy and delicious. I had the burger the last time we were there which was very good, and my partner tried the lamb and also enjoyed it. They do have a small outdoor seating area which looks nice!

Chicken was bone dry with texture of sawdust - and $35 to boot with no dark meat. Overpriced and awful.

Incredible dinner in a beautiful restaurant!! My husband took me here for my birthday- I've been wanting to try it for a while, and wow it did not disappoint! We were seated in the beautiful corner booth with a lovely view of the restaurant. We shared: - French Onion Soup: 5/5 absolutely delicious. Just how you hope French onion soup will taste -The Seasonal Cassoulet: 4.5/5 great Smokey flavor with tender meat and served with beans and veggies -Steak Tartare: 5/5 perfect, and a very generous portion, served with a few slices of toasted bread that weren't too toasted, a yummy side salad, and excellent French fries. We took a look at the dessert menu but were too full to get anything. But I guess my husband wrote it was my birthday on our reservation and they brought out a little vanilla ice cream with a candle! Very thoughtful, and probably the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had - so creamy and flavorful! I can't wait to come back and try more menu items and will definitely leave room for dessert! Thank you Bistro Vandôme for a great birthday dinner!

Bistro Vendome is such a treat. On the fancier side with a slightly older crowd. Good for small groups or a romantic night out. The patio in the back is perfect in the summer, a nice change of pace to sitting street side. The staff are friendly and food has always come out timely. The mussels are must along with escargot. The steak tartar was a nice size portion too!

It's the the coldest night of the year so far so I was ready for my Cassoulet but the chef was not ready yet. I understand the menu is changing next week to welcome the Fall. I settled for Cog Au Vin instead and I know it be will off the menu next week. I had it with the Chef's Mashed Potatoes and he indulged me.

I met up with friends for dinner here and really enjoyed my steak. It was perfectly prepared/sliced and served with bearnaise sauce, fries and salad. My friends had the mussels, which are served in several different styles. I tasted the curry mussels and they were delicious! I got there a little late so I didn't order an appetizer, but I snuck a taste of the escargot, which was outstanding. I eyed one of my friend's steak tartare and made a mental note to order that next time. Drinks and wine were great. Service was wonderful. We sat in the downstairs section but there is a lively area in the front, as well as an outside dining area. Highly recommend.

My Family and I have been frequent diners at Bistro Vandome. However our last visit was a disaster. Our waiter did not know the menu and had to ask the busboy for help. We were 4 people. My husband never got his salad. He finally got it when he asked for it. My husband also asked for a glass of red wine with his dinner. It never arrived. He asked the waiter and he finally brought a glass of wine. I went down and told the person seemingly in charge. When we got our bill the waiter had charged us for two glasses of wine, when my husband pointed out that he never got the first one the waiter argued with my husband. We finally settled the bill. We will never visit this restaurant again

Love quiet out of the way places . Had lunch here and it was great. I'm always apprehensive about Escargot in New York ( I've gotten sick a few times and it ain't pretty ) . It was amazing. Fresh , delicate and I was tempted to drink the garlic butter . Highly recommend.

Had lunch here today. It's a great little local place that's easy to recommend. The have a nice outdoor seating area in the back that's a great spot if the weather is nice. I had a very nice hanger steak served with some of the best french fries I've ever had.

Food was good. French onion soup was amazing. Ambiance is fine nothing special. The service was terrible. I had to ask for everything more water and a side of mustard twice and it wasn't busy at all with multiple people working. I would've had a second glass of wine but no one asked or checked on us instead they were standing around. I'm sure I can find another French restaurant with better service because that's a huge part of the dining experience. Would've given a 5 star review if the service was good.

Dined there last night. With a reservation. Was treated terribly by the owner/hostess. Indicated when booking I needed main floor as cannot do stairs. When table came available, we were seated in a surly manner. Then ignored. Meal was good. B+ but wine superb. About an hour later Madame came over and we complimented her and she said people were waiting for the table with dessert still in our mouths. NEVER AGAIN. This used to be a charming place. Not a grace note. Came home unsettled and angry.

This was a lovely meal. This is a lovely place. Great.... I recommend it whole heartedly

Bistro Vendome WAS one of my favorite French bistros but on this occasion really fell short. The ambiance is cool located in a unique townhouse on the UES. But this night, the food was really off and the service was ok, until one of the servers accidentally spilled a sauce on me when delivering a dish to the table. You'd think they offer more than just an apology for the mishap. And for the price we paid, definitely expected better. And my partner whose French, wasn't impressed at all and felt some of the service not friendly at all. Perhaps an off night but unfortunately doubt will return anytime soon. With so many great restaurants in this city, why chance it. But give it a try, perhaps your experience will be better.

Parlez-vous français?! Nope, me either but this place fuckin rocks. It was cold out earlier and I had to go return something at the TJMaxx on 59th & 1st so I did a quick search on Yelp for "French Onion Soup" in that area and selected the filter "Outdoor seating". Yelp did not point me in the wrong direction! Saw the overall star rating and chose to check out their photos. Loved their patio and food photos did not disappoint. They have awesome outdoor seating with heaters AND plexiglass dividing the tables. My boyfriend and I sat outside (they have outdoor heaters) and I started with a glass of champagne and the tuna tartar. It was wonderful! Those little spicy wasabi-tasting dollops around the tuna and cucumbers were kick-ass. Then we got two French Onion soups which came out piping hot (important while dining outside in 35 degree weather), ooey gooey, flavorful and all around made my panties DANCE. Service was 10/10. Why? Our waiter plus two managers came to check in and see how we liked our food and I never had to ask for anything. Everyone was wearing their masks above their nose which made me feel very safe. Cannot wait to come back and order the lobster salad since we were t that hungry today, just really wanted to get out of the house while I was in the area doing a return at a store. This is only a short walk to my apartment (10 blocks or so) and I will be coming back next week for sure!

This is an old school French Bistro and it took a bit too long for me to try this place. I was here with two others and we enjoyed just about everything. The service here was friendly and efficient coming over when needed but not being intrusive. They answer any questions and gave recommendations along with the specials (which one person partook in for their appetizer.) In terms of a drink, I had the 2019 Muscadet from Domaine de La Pinardière which was $13. As expected for a muscadet, the wine had a crispness and some melon like sweetness and it was fine with a reasonable sized pour and another person had some red wine which they like also. To start, I ordered the French onion soup gratinée ($15.) The French onion soup was fantastic and honestly one of the best ones I have had in the city. The broth was rich and there was a good amount of cheese with my only minor complaint is that I prefer a little bit more bread inside to soak up but that was easily fixed with some of the house bread. Another person got a special of the day which was uniquely a chestnut soup which I tried a bit of which I assume was the same price or something very similar. The soup had a very pleasant texture with some nice nuttiness and while I preferred mine, I think it was just because mine was exceptional. In terms of my main dish, I thought of going for one of the other daily specials but I decided to go for cassoulet (34$) which is a a hearty stew made from white beans/haricot blanc. The meat is a bit different depending on the bistro and they had one of the usual being pork shank and duck confit. The pork shank was a little bit too fatty for my liking but the duck confit was exceptional. It was a rich as expected and overall it was fine but I would order something different next time. The other people had the 10 oz hanger steak (38$) which had a choice of sauces (she went with the shallot) and the last person had the pike & crawfish quenelle (33$) which had basmati vegetables rice and lobster sauce. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and the fries were as expected for a bistro and the shallot sauce (as recommended by me as she asked me what I thought would be good) was excellent being not too sweet. The quenelle was also fantastic with a nice texture and the sauce was very tasty also. For once in that group, I got the worst main dish and next time I would just go with the beef bourguignon or perhaps the confit or a steak. The dessert menu online is missing a few things and I personally got the floating island or ile flottante (I believe 10$) which is a now uncommonly found French dessert consisting of a #meringue "floating" over a bed of creme anglaise topped with slivered almonds as I wanted something lighter. The meringue had a nice texture with the almonds helping and overall it was good. The other two shared the apple tart which was fine also. The desserts overall were alright and perfectly fine for a French Bistro; not exceptional but fine. Overall the food here was very good although I personally would not get the cassoulet again (to be honest I'm not sure why I keep on ordering this when a a few places have just spoiled me with this dish.) The prices are a bit high but it's an old-school French bistro in the Midtown East so I'm not exactly sure what else would be expected. Very good place though if you want to pay a bit more, there's a couple spots nearby which are a tad better. Mid 4.

A Midtown East gem! I can highly recommend this restaurant. The food and ambiance are great. Sometimes the service can be a bit slow, but I feel that is a result of their success. The food is always good and priced well. A must try if you live in the area .

My wife and I visited the restaurant after living in the neighborhood for many years. From the moment we stepped in the ambiance and service did not disappoint. The food was fantastic also. I suggest you check this place out because it's definitely an honest restaurant putting out quality food. NYC has so many restaurants backed by venture backed millionaire so it's nice to support a real local business like this. Hangar steak, branzino, and crème brûlée did not disappoint.

Just delicious! Such a lovely restaurant and quiet enough that you can have a conversation! It is beautiful inside but the real showstopper is the food. The Bronzino, escargot, steak tartare and lamb was exquisite. I ordered my steak tartare spicy and it did not disappoint. Absolutely lovely flavor and when I got home I wished I had a little more! And both the lamb and Bronzino were incredible. Beautifully cooked and lovely plating. My mother had the beet salad with goat cheese which was also just perfect. The escargot was bright with herbs and not oily as some can be. They were cooked to perfection! The service was extremely friendly and attentive and a stand out was the lovely hostess who took our reservation earlier and was so gracious and accommodating. If you enjoy classic French bistro food you will truly enjoy this restaurant!

We went for brunch and we're pleasantly surprised. It was packed, vibe was great, service was good and food was YUM! From eggs and biscuits to their famous blueberry pancakes, everything was really good!

Excellent food, excellent service, wonderful ambiance and I love the bar long and plenty of space to meet people. Would go there again in a heartbeat. TommyG

Such a great restaurant with amazing food and service. My boyfriend kept commenting throughout our meal here how this was the best food we'd had in a long time. SETTING: came for a dinner reservation for two people on a Friday night for 8:45pm. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy with every table was taken. I live nearby and there always seems to be a crowd waiting outside. It's a beautiful & cozy restaurant with a bar in the front, smaller booths and tables towards the back and a second floor that looks out onto the first floor like a loft space / balcony. There are ~five or so tables up there, with doors opening out onto a patio space with more tables. The outdoor space was closed that night due to the weather). FOOD: the food was excellent. We ordered the Thai style mussels and French onion soup for our appetizers. The sauce they used for the mussels was incredible- creamy, rich, savory and the perfect amount of spice. Soaked our bread in it and basically lapped it up with a spoon. Delicious! The French onion soup was the best I've ever had. The broth was so perfectly savory with just the right amount of cheese / soaked bread. Would highly recommend, this is a must! For our entrees we ordered the special for the night, which was veal served with mashed potatoes. We also ordered the cheese ravioli. Again, for both dishes- we both agreed (1) best mashed potatoes we've ever had (2) best ravioli we've ever had. We don't say that easily.... which I think speaks to how amazing the food is here. Not exaggerating! The veal was also really delicious and fatty, perfectly cooked and seasoned. SERVICE: our waiter was really great and told us when we wanted to order another appetizer that we had gotten enough food. Thank god because it was a struggle towards the end to finish all that food. VERDICT: so happy to have found this place- it will be my l new favorite neighborhood spot for dinner. I will definitely be back and hope to become a regular here ! Highly recommend you this place, because you will be very happy!

Wanted a simple burger and tried this restaurant for the first time. It came dripping in sauce then was given back to me wiped off with a new bun. Yuck! I paid the full bill (a 30 dollar burger and a glass of wine) and went in search of better food and service elsewhere.

While my friend and I were standing outside of the restaurant waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, a man who was about to head into the restaurant let us know how amazing this restaurant is. Though the dinner menu didn't really call out to me, his words of affirmation made me feel a little bit better about the birthday girl choosing Vendome Bistro. It's an elegant setting with two floors. I ordered the scallop risotto ($32) and it was so delicious. It's almost as good as my favorite scallop risotto at Upstate. The perfectly seared scallops tasted so fresh but the risotto was just a tiny bit too salty. One of my friends ordered the fish soup ($15) and it was so fishy. I had a taste and gagged. My friend couldn't bring herself to continue drinking it either. I felt like they could've taken out the fishiness with ginger or some other complementary ingredient. The side of fries ($8) were pretty good. It's not hard to make fries but it's easy to make mediocre fries, and this place did not make mediocre fries. My friend got the mussels and added a side of salad for $8. The salad was extremely not worth it!! Super small portion and if wasn't even anything fancy. Dessert was amazing, albeit pricey. I'm not a big fan of apple pies/tarts but I think their apple tart is the only one I genuinely like! It came with a scoop of ice cream. We also got the profiteroles - cream puffs with ice cream and chocolate sauce? Couldn't stop eating it! Our waitress sweetly stuck a candle in the apple tart after she found out it was a friend's birthday.

We have our annual Christmas Eve dinner at this restaurant. Food and ambiance are fantastic. However, I wish they would update their Christmas dinner menu. I mean... the prices keep increasing, but the menu stays the same year after year.

My friends and I were treated awfully. We initially had a reservation for 2. Then I called and spoke to the owner, Virginie and asked if it was ok to add another person to my reservation (all outdoor dining). She said yes. We get there and they try to squeeze us into a very small space which i told them it didn't work for us as we were very uncomfortable. We wait and sit at another table for 3. Order a bottle of wine. As we're waiting, Virginie comes at us saying we can't sit there. That our table is assigned and we can't sit there. She was very rude, loud and in your face. I don't care how good the food is.... it's not worth having an unwelcoming owner only in it for the money by squeezing people in Be warned my friends... be warned!

What a amazing venue. Beautiful place for our NYC small Wedding. The every aspect of this the Intimate, chic, French place is simply beautiful. Food was incredible , service even better but nothing beats the ambiance of the place. Virginie made sure that our big day will be perfect as we have planned. From the first email contact the service provided was excellent. And Her Husband Pascal the chef made us made a delicious 5 course meal. If I ever need to plan a sophisticated event, I'm definitely going to book this space.. thank you both & your team to make our wedding magical Jessica & Lukasz

My wife and a took an old friend and his wife for dinner recently, and we did have a good time since we enjoyed the company. We had a great bottle of wine, and good service, but the food was far from being what we hoped it would be. The menu was small, with no specials, and the kitchen showed no great technique or ability to put out a memorable meal worth the high prices we were charged. The portions were small and really lackluster in their execution. In all it seemed like a weak attempt at trying to seem French.

I love bistro Vendome, an authentic French bistro with classic dishes Professional and honest business with delicious and fresh food in lovely settings. My favorite restaurant in Sutton Place. Mussels, salmon tartare and goat salad are a must.

Well not sure where to start! The beginning sounds like a good option! We had few house cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table ( they seem to be very busy for a Monday evening)that where very good Was our second visit there and I have to say that god , the food was good !! Not pretentious very well executed French fare with a very delicate touch and generous portion unlike many other restaurant of that caliber. Our server was very plaisant and had a good knowledge of the menu and the wine I think his name was Aurélien ? Anyway I could go on and on For dessert we had a floating island Which we never had before and was just the perfect finally for our wonderful evening Great atmosphere and staff Bravo We will come back À bientôt;))

Wow - fabulous experience at Bistro Vendome. The owner/manager Virginia heard me talking about steak tartare when I walked in and assured me that hers is some of the best in the city. She was certainly right - it was delicious and reminded me just of paris. Classic French restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. I can't wait to come back in the spring and summer to sit on the terrace... and don't sleep on the dessert menu!!!

Fantastic and nice cozy ambience. Older crowd. Great food. Got the fish soup, escargots, sirloin steak with fries (both steak and fries were really fabulous) w/ bearnaise & peppercorn sauces, and the shrimp raviolis. Desserts were apple tart and chocolate fondant w/ coconut ice cream...delicious.

We came here hoping for a good experience, but the food and service unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. The service began poorly and continued to be slow and inattentive until the end of the meal. We were not offered refills of drinks, and our water glasses sat completely empty until we specifically asked for more water. The waiter also took quite some time to come over in the first place. He did not check on things often or check in after we finished eating--we actually had to flag down a bus person to ask them to clear our plates and bring the check. The food itself was acceptable but nothing special. My salmon was quite overcooked and had the stiff consistency of fish that has sit in the pan too long. The sides were fine and not an issue. While the atmosphere was cute, the food and service left something to be desired.

As usual, Bistro Vendome was excellent. We had the coq au vin, duck confit and swordfish all of which were superb. We managed to make room for the apple tart even tough we were "stuffed". It was definitely worth it. The only hitch is that they forgot our coffee orders at the end and we had to ask 3 times. But all's well that ends well and we finally got the coffees. This is my second time there in a week and I will no doubt be back soon again:-)

I contacted the restaurant to let them know I'd be late for my reservation due to delays at my dr appointment. The lady on the phone said to me with extreme sarcasm "... the dr office is open this late?"; basically called me a liar. Really? Ordered the chicken liver pate that was bland; the most disappointing I've ever had anywhere. Duck confit was really dry; which should never be the case as the dish is supposed to be roasted in duck fat. Service was good though.

In the "you can't make this up" here goes... Excellent burger at the bar. $20 or so I thought until the bill came. It came as $24. The bartender said there was a $4 surcharge for cheese. Seriously?.....and u did not tell me......especially after u were the one who asked me if I wanted cheese!!!!! Then, the manager said it should have been $2 not $4. They never adjusted the bill.... So, since the neighborhood has about 4 other similar French restaurants I keep on our cycle, this one will be easy to take off. All because they wanted their extra $4 in error. Penny wise and pound foolish. Arrogant and not a smart business.... Then to top it off, the owner messaged me after this was posted and said the dinner burger is $22 and the lunch is $20 and cheese is $2.00. So my bill that said Burger $20 and cheese $4.00 = $24 which is right ending number. More double talk and a. Ad way to apologize especially since they don't serve burgers at dinner and only serve it at the bar which is where I was sitting when I was ha dead a bar menu, not a dinner menu that said burger $20. WOW!!!!

Always a delightful time and wonderful experience when we dine at Bistro Vendome. A true neighborhood gem and authentic French cuisine. Kind and caring owners and staff always look forward to our next meal here. Merci beaucoup!

Horrible place, kicked you out before you even finish your food. The waiter sat us at the very corner where the plant is all up in your face. Then they literally took 20 minutes to take our order which took time away from the 1.5 seating hour time. We got the Valentine's Day menu, food took forever to come and right before receiving the desert, they said we will have to take the dessert to go as theres a long line waiting outside. They started to rush us by putting the bill on the table while we waited for the take out dessert to come which took a good 15 minute to arrive. Horrible experience. Will never come back again. When we open the take out box for the dessert, we were flabbergasted by how it looked, it's disgusting! Oh, also they didn't put any utensils in the bag, how nice of them..

So far, I like this place. I ordered the scallops with mushroom sauce risotto and it was wonderful! The mushroom sauce was full of flavor but for the price, I would have rather had whole scallops than sliced thin - or maybe a little more. But the risotto was delicious. The mussels was prepared with ingredients of escargot which I liked. You need to take some bread and make sure to pickup that delicious sauce. The sole was good as well - but a bit pricey. I think anything with MP next I the dish means over $50 for that entree. The floating island did not have enough creme Anglaise or sauce. The Tart Tatin is not very sweet. It's more like just an apple tart and not the traditional Tart Tatin - traditional. I did not order a salad or vegetable as my main course was already in the $50 range. This place is good but I wish they would not price my scallop in the $50s range. After all, my dish probably is equivalent only to 3 whole scallops. Or at least include a salad.

Went here with a friend on 11/18. The atmosphere is laid back with a touch of sophistication. The service is very good attentive but not intrusive. The food is really good. I had the quenelles, the best I have ever had in New York. Myf friends ballotine of chicken was exellent. The hors e'oevres were very good as were the desserts. Definitely one of the best French restaurants in New York.

Authentic French Bistro This authentic, cozy, VERY French Bistro serves French favorites in a charming setting. While the staff does try hard (they are warm, accommodating, polite and very French) service is so spotty and often inattentive. (I would not dine here if you are on a schedule or trying to make a show. Many of the pre-pandemic staff seem to be gone, leaving those seasoned staff members who remain understandably overwhelmed and responsible for EVERYTHING. Our server was also the host, tended bar, took take out orders and reservations and remained polite and pleasant through it all.) That said, the food is quite good. The appetizers are very tasty, especially, the Fish soup, beet carpaccio with goat cheese and escargot. The mussels in various, preparations, scallops and ratatouille are very tasty. As there are no vegetarian entrees on the menu, our very pleasant, Herculean server asked the chef to create a vegetarian pasta, which was yummy. The menu changes seasonally, with options maximizing availability of in season foods. (Summer brings soft shell crabs and a cold salmon option.) The desserts are reminiscent of patisseries in Paris, especially the apple tart. We do enjoy Bistro Vendome, the cozy (albeit EXTREMELY hot on this summer evening) atmosphere, and the authentic, tasty, French fare. With truly good, genuinely French food, an accommodating (albeit overwhelmed) staff and a very cozy atmosphere, Bistro Vendome is a good choice for a tasty French meal.
