The Best Restaurants In San Jose - San Jose - The Infatuation

"San Jose’s best bò né (sizzling, pâté-topped steak and eggs) can be tricky to find inside a shopping center in Little Saigon, but Bò Né Phú Yên is worth getting a bit lost for. They’ve got the regional delicacy down to a science, perfectly searing the beef and serving it with a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside baguette. Eat at one of the food court tables or just take it to go." - shoshi parks

The Best Dishes Eater SF Editors Ate This Week: April 8 | Eater SF

"On a recent food tour of San Jose I was taken to a gem tucked into a corner of the Lion Plaza food court on Tully Road, where the Bò Né arrives blistering hot on a cow-shaped cast-iron platter: beef under a layer of red onion slivers and cilantro, a pork meatball, two eggs, and a smear of pâté. Tearing off fluffy pieces of bánh mì, I built bites with pâté, marinated beef and onion, a just-set egg, and a hit of hot chile oil—each messy, drippy mouthful balanced by deep, earthy pâté and savory umami from the beef and utterly satisfying for lunch. Note that the counter is cash only, and if you’re exploring the food court a delightful second dish to try is the Bánh Khọt at Quan Hue nearby." - Lauren Saria

Google
(Super late review, went here Feb 2024) My sister and friends from Dallas Tx came to visit and wanted to try some Viet breakfast food. I’ve been wanting to try this place so this was the time to try with everyone. It’s in a food court in a Vietnamese plaza. I wanna say it’s cash only, either way just bring cash. It’s 20 bucks per plate. We went on a weekday morning so it wasn’t packed at all, and the food court was very quiet lol. The plates were quickly made by an uncle aged gentleman and the woman handled the money and orders. The plates were all sizzling, and the eggs are all sunny side up, if you like your eggs more done, the hot plate will eventually get it cooked thru. This dish is made for runny yokes, so I wouldn’t recommend waiting to your yokes to be cooked thru. The banh mi (baguette) was fresh and warm, had the perfect crunch and crisp. The plates come with a meat ball, beef, and pâté. There’s a side salad and a full baguette. The proteins to me could be flavored a bit more, they tasted one note. Otherwise, the experience and food as a whole was decent. Bottom line: Good to try out at least once.

Google
Bò Né Phú Yên is a solid spot for sizzling Vietnamese steak, offering filet mignon, eggs, pâté, and fresh baguettes on a hot iron plate. The rich flavors and tender meat make it a satisfying meal, and the presentation adds to the experience. The food court setting can be noisy, and seating is limited during busy hours, but the quality of the dish makes up for it. The portion sizes are fairly generous, making it a filling option for breakfast or lunch. However, some visits can be inconsistent, with slight variations in meat tenderness or seasoning. Despite that, the restaurant remains one of the better choices for Vietnamese sizzling steak in the area, especially for those who enjoy bold flavors and interactive dining experiences.

Amazing food for an amazing price! My husband and I are both big eaters, but we were pretty full after sharing one bò né between the two of us for $20. My brother, sister-in-law, and mom shared a second bò né and almost had leftovers. The cow shaped sizzling plate was unique and very cool! My favorite part was the warm toasty bread that paired perfectly with the juicy tender steak and paté! Next time we'll definitely see if we can get two though since we were practically fighting over it. We went on a Monday around noon and it was about 20min wait in line before ordering, then about 15min for the food to come out. Absolutely worth the wait, but it's good to divide and conquer to pick up some apps (i.e. spring rolls) from places nearby/grab a table when one frees up! Food court is a bit small, but cleaner than I expected, with several bussers on standby.

Google
I've tried a few Bo Ne places but this one is my absolute favorite! Bo Ne Phu Yen is located inside a food court at Lion Plaza. They specialize in the Bo Ne and I can definitely see why! This is a great spot for casual eating. They are cash only and at $20, you can get Bo Ne (Shaking Beef) with lettuce, bread, and tea all included. The beef is very tender and soft that you can use a spoon to cut through it. How I usually eat Bo Ne is by taking the bread and dipping it in all the sauce, add a bit of egg, onion, pate, beef, and then take a bite out of it. This spot does not skimp out on the pate. The lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber helps to cleanse your palate as needed and I like how hot tea was also included. Since this is located in a plaza, there is a lot of parking, but it can get busy over the weekends. One thing I would recommend is to also include a plastic knife as a utensil to cut the beef since the utensils we were given were a pair of chopsticks, a spoon, and a fork.

I'd heard about this restaurant before from a friend of mine when I asked her to suggest me a good place to have Bo ne (Vietnamese beef steak) in San Jose. I finally came there with my family and the food satisfied all of us . It is interesting that they only have one item to order on the menu it is a must-try for everyone. I personally ordered mine cooked medium. The meat was tender. The flavor was addictive. It definitely surpassed my expectations. To accompany the steak, they also provided a sate soy sauce. Just remember to add it sparingly, as a little goes a long way. I especially like to eat their sour and sweet salad together with this dish since it enhanced the flavors perfectly. One thing to note is that they only accept cash, and the price is a flat $20 with no additional tax. The price appears to be pricey but they use expensive cut of meat so it makes sense for that price. I need to mention that this restaurant is located within the food court that have other restaurants there as well. Arriving at noon on a Saturday, I discovered that seating inside was limited and in high demand. While they do offer outdoor seating, the chilly weather prompted us to wait for an indoor spot. It took a bit of patience, as we kept a watchful eye for any available tables, ready to claim them before someone else did. This is a big downside because this kind of dish should only be for dine in - it tastes worse if you order it for to go for sure and it was stressful to look for seats and tables although we had no problem with parking. I took back one star due to this reason.

Google
To be upfront the meal is $20 for an order of the famous Bo Ne. The chef is very nice and makes each meal to order. It's a generous amount with a side salad, fresh and crispy bread and the sizzling beef cooked to either medium rare or rare. The beef is very tender and flavorful, the side of the pate spread is a unique flavor but a bit on the sweeter side. Everything about the meal compliments one another and it is one of the best Bo Ne I've had in a while.

Josh

Google
The food was excellent though i asked for medium rare the the steak was definitely rare when i got it. I also found it hard to find but once your there get ready for an excellent meal. They also only accept cash for payment

Google
Wow, stellar food. Everything was tender and seasoned deliciously. It's in a cafeteria, don't expect service. Only one egg due to increased egg prices sadly. 20 dollars cash.

Yelp
Bo Ne Phu Yen is located in the Lion Plaza Food Court area. The food court was busy during lunch time on a Saturday. CASH ONLY establishment. Code for the restroom is located at each food stall. I ordered their Bo Ne $20. Steak is cooked to order, sunny side up fried egg, pork meatball, pate, and French roll on a sizzling platter. It takes a while to cook and depending on how many orders are before yours, it could take 20-30+ min. So, don't expect your food to come up fast. I was sharing a table with other local patrons who ordered the same dish as I did. They both have had this dish countless of times and agreed that this place is "considered the best in town!" "This is the closest taste to back home, in Vietnam". He sold me as I eagerly awaited for my bo ne! The entree comes with house salad with a simple vinegar dressing and hot tea. The bread was warm yet amazingly very soft! The filet was tender. The pate was so good. Every bite I took made made me smile. It was worth the wait. I think I found a favorite new place. Support your local business.

Yelp
Bò Né Phú Yên is my favorite spot for Bò Né in San Jose. Bò Né is one of my all-time favorite Vietnamese dishes, and this place truly does it right every single time. The restaurant is tucked inside the Lion Plaza food court, and while it's small and unassuming, it's always packed with people who know how good it is. There's almost always a wait, but honestly it's worth every minute. The dish comes out sizzling on a hot plate, loaded with slices of tender steak, a sunny-side-up egg, rich pâté, and a flavorful meatball. On the side, you get a fresh baguette and a crisp salad that perfectly balances out the richness of the meat. I usually ask for my steak medium well, though I've also tried medium before and medium well is my favorite. I really appreciate how the owners always take the time to get your order just the way you like it. Everything tastes so fresh, from the juicy steak to the buttery pâté that's not overly salty like some other places. What makes this spot even more special is the consistency. No matter when I go, the food is always cooked perfectly, and the flavors are always spot-on. Every time I'm at Lion Plaza, I tell myself I should try something new from the other food court stalls but I can never resist coming back to Bò Né Phú Yên. It's that good. The sizzling plate, the delicious steak, the crisp bread soaking up all the flavors it's pure comfort food done right. If you're craving an authentic, satisfying Vietnamese meal, this place is a must-try. It never disappoints!

Yelp
You can't really go wrong with bo ne and it was great that there was a salad that came with it. There was also tea included in the set as well. The meat was cooked well and the meatball was a great addition, a lot of pate as well! This spot was located in the food court of the plaza so it could be a bit hard to find a table on a busy weekend.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for a while. But I heard the lines and wait were long. Today was the day I felt I could handle both. The line went fast. I believe it's cash only and I panicked with my $12 in my hand, but found a couple of twenties in my wallet. It was $20 and a 35 minute wait for the food. When we got our food, our tray was PACKED. Salad, tea, bread, and of course the bo ne. It was delicious! The xiu mai was a little salty for me, but I loved the pate and the steak. I'd come back for this, but maybe at their *NEW* location once it opens (Vietnamtown). For seating, it's a little rough at Call Me Dragon. Iykyk, amirite? But there was a man who was cleaning off tables and directing people who were waiting to newly emptied tables.

Yelp
If you're craving a hearty Vietnamese breakfast or brunch, Bò Né Phú Yên is the spot to check out. I came here for their Sizzling Vietnamese Steak & Eggs ($20), and it did not disappoint. The plate comes out piping hot with filet mignon, two sunny-side-up eggs, pâté, and a meatball. This is all served on a sizzling iron plate. On the side, you get a crispy baguette, fresh salad, and even a cup of hot tea. It's a complete meal that's both flavorful and satisfying. Tina's Tips: - This place is cash only, so make sure to bring some bills. - Tables are first come, first serve--so if you see one opening up, grab it quickly! - I waited about 10 minutes around 11am, which wasn't bad at all. The vibe is casual and bustling, with the sizzling plates filling the room with delicious aromas. It's definitely worth a visit whether you're starting your day or enjoying a late brunch. I'll be back again to try more from the menu! I recommend coming here with the whole family.

Yelp
Whenever I'm craving bo ne, this place is my go to spot that I like to show my friends. It's located inside the food court at Lion Market Plaza. This plaza used to be popping when I was a kid but these days it's much quieter. Still the food court has a good mix of Vietnamese spots so you can try dishes from multiple places if you're in the mood to sample. Ordering is straightforward. You order at the counter, get a buzzer, and when your food is ready, it vibrates so you can head back up to grab your tray. I recommend ordering first, then finding a seat while you wait. The bo ne comes out sizzling hot with a runny egg, pate, meatballs, slices of steak, a fresh side salad, and a warm baguette. The bread is crispy outside, soft inside. Perfect for soaking up all the flavorful meat juices. I like to tear up the bread and top it with a bit of everything. 100% would recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I each ordered a Bo Ne plate and were impressed by the flavors. The protein comes out on a sizzling plate that you pick up at the counter - the combinations of the tender beef, juicy meatball, and smooth pate with the egg was so delicious, savory and umami; the crunchy bread was nice to soak in all that flavor. For $20 (they only accept cash FYI! - there's an ATM inside the food court as well), we were both happy with what we got (sizzling plate, tea, baguette, and a side salad). I came here on a Sunday morning (~11 AM), and by noon, this place was packed. The only harp I have about this place is the service - the ordering seems to be a bit inefficient, and the old woman taking orders seemed very apathetic/almost annoyed when I tried to get her attention - had to wait a couple minutes before she acknowledged me and eventually took my order (but I guess it doesn't matter when you're confident about the food and business regardless of the service). Ambiance-wise, this place is located within a food court, so around lunch time this place will be bustling with business. Very casual sit-down

Yelp
Great hole in the wall establishment that is cash only. This place was pretty hard to find; located within Lion market plaza, you walk through some unassuming looking arches on the left side of the market that leads you to a small corner of stores. There is a sign for a ballet school that does not lead to a ballet store and instead leads you to a small food court with some tables located inside! Service was minimal but efficient. The main dish was a flat $20 and we got medium rare for the steak. It came with a side salad and tea as well. The food was delicious; meat was tender and juicy, the sauce was flavorful, and the baguette was well toasted and plentiful. Portions were generous. I highly recommend trying this place!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a hidden gem that we would not have known of if it was not for our close local friends that suggested us coming here for lunch. Located inside a small food court in a shopping plaza. This place needs to be known! They serve mainly one dish that is their most popular And is made to perfect perfection. The beef in this dish is super tender with the gravy just the right amount of saltines that allows for the bread to be deliciously dunked into for a satisfying savory bite. Don't forget to dip the runny yolk with the steak before having one of the most delicious combination bite one after another. I'm glad I ordered my own because it was definitely hard to share such a delicious dish!
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best sizzling plate i've ever had. But I digress. I came with my fiancé looking for a lunch to split. There is no real service you just order a plate and take it to a seat. This restaurant is located inside of a very small food court. There is seating but it took a long while to find a table. The court is reminiscent of a hawker stall in Singapore, very quaint. Seems like a family owned restaurant too. For $20 in cash only you get egg runny with sauce, pate, cubed filet mignon, amazing baguette, and some veggies. the beef- amazing and super tender and soft. The pate is also standout and very flavorful. The bread, a surprising star, is both soft, and crispy (I don't know how they did it). We waited an hour but it was incredible. Would do it again.
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
The positives: Food came out quickly. Cheaper than most other places around ($20). Big portion. Tender meat. The not so great: Baguette was tough. Taste is average and lacking. This place fell short of my expectations and is overhyped in my opinion.
google avatar

Yelp
Bò Né Phú Yên is the undisputed king of Bò Né in the Bay Area. We've tried Bò Né at countless Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose, but none of them can compare to the mouthwatering flavor and quality of their meats. If you're planning to visit, be sure to arrive early. This food court gets packed during lunch, and the line for Bò Né is usually super long. They often run out of bread before 1 pm, so don't miss out!
google avatar

Deanna Y.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying out this place a couple weeks ago. To be honest, it's overhyped. It was ok but not that great. I really enjoyed the bread, meatball, pate and eggs. The steak itself was only ok. It was pretty chewy and pieces cut too large. I was expecting better but was good to try once.
google avatar

Andy N.

Yelp
This place is in a hidden Vietnamese food hall in the Lion Plaza. A very known Vietnamese plaza in the San Jose area. Lots of different choices but this spot is the most popular with a line at all times. You come here for the Bo Ne, which is a sizzling steak platter with eggs, pate, pork loaf, baguette and more. A very filling dish that is breakfast heaven. And they produced the best one I've ever had. The steak was just right. It was so tender and went great with the soft crunchy bagette bread. It's a first come first serve seating in this food hall. If you've never had Bo Ne, this would be a great first place to try. This place makes you feel like you're in Vietnam.
google avatar

Kathleen L.

Yelp
I had this hidden gem bookmarked for the longest time. I finally tried it on an early weekend! My boyfriend and I ordered one sizzling steak (medium rare) plate to share. It was a flat $20. The meal was enough for the two of us. The meal came with a cup of hot tea, a side salad, a large baguette and a sizzling steak plate (with eggs, meatball, pate and some onions/herbs). Oh, a side of soy sauce and chilli oil was also provided. The food was delicious! To be honest, I haven't tried a lot of Bo Ne anywhere but this spot may have set some high standards for me. Definitely a hidden gem and worth a try! Great, filling plate. I definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Located in a mall food court type place, I knew it was gonna be good because I did not see a menu at all, just signs on their section of the food court for "shaken beef" and "Bo Ne for $20". Not sure if they take card, but if you pay in cash it is exactly $20. The food comes out sizzling on that hot plate. We asked for medium rare, and the meat came out more rare than expected, probably to compensate for the sizzling hot plate. The meat was so tender and buttery and juicy, the bread soft and perfect for soaking up the juices, and the salad was quite refreshing. I gobbled the whole thing up and was in a food coma for the next couple hours. Seating is food court style - a bunch of tables in the middle of all the restaurants. Parking wasn't hard on a weekday lunch - there's a lot for all the shops in the area, although I could see it getting crowded on weekday meals.
google avatar

Yelp
Love their Bo ne!! I love that they actually cook your steak to the preferred wellness. The steak, bread, and pate are all so yummy on their own but put everything together and it is absolutely divine. Very solid, no frills spot. The only inconvenience is since it's located in a food court, you have to find your own table which is hard during peak dining hours. People are generally courteous and will leave after eating for quick turnover though. Highly recommend coming early or late to avoid peak lunch time.
google avatar

Kayla C.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal here. the line was long. a decent wait maybe 30 at 12pm peak hours. hard to find a table but just keep looking and u can get one before ur food arrives. Our bread was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. got medium rare steak and it was so good. loved the tea that it came with nice and hot. $20 CASH ONLY for the whole tray. it's a busy little food court with lots of other great options. so if u feel defeated by the wait time. the other places looked great also.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
If I happen to be in San Jose and craving Bo Ne, this is the spot I would always go to. For a sizzling hot plate with filet mignon steak smothered in their special sauce, a meatball, pâté and a sunny side up egg, a baguette roll, a side salad and a cup of tea - ALL for just $20! You can't beat that!! I brought my friend here and he really enjoyed it. We shall be back. Side note: They only accept cash.
google avatar

Lianna T.

Yelp
Wow omg the bo ne here was SO GOOD I can't stop thinking about it. This took me back to the bo ne I had in Vietnam. It's probably good that I discovered this place after moving out of SJ otherwise I would have been there too often. Everything about the dish was amazing, so flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The only downside is that they're serving 1 egg per dish instead of 2 due to the egg shortage. It's located in a food court with a bunch of other great options so you could try small bites while waiting. It's cash only $20. Expect to wait at least 20-30 mins especially during peak hours but so worth it. Literally so yummy I'll be back.

Yelp
I was driving by San Jose and dropped by the food court for some breakfast. It was pretty empty Friday morning around 10 am when I arrived. I immediately walked over to the Bo Ne Phe Yen stall. I looked around and there's no menu posted anywhere, so I guess the main thing people get here is bo ne? They were also advertising bo luc lac, but that's the only other food item I saw mentioned. For $20 cash, you can get a plate of sizzling filet mignon slices (cooked to your desired level), a meatball, pate, and egg. Right now because of the egg shortage, they're only giving one egg per order. On the side is also a fresh baguette, salad, and a cup of tea. Because I was the only one ordering from them and I asked for my steak to be cooked rare, my food was done in minutes! It was definitely a heavier breakfast than I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it. The baguette was super fresh and paired well with all the meats. My favorite was actually the pate, which was super flavorful, but everything on the plate was delicious. Too bad I don't live closer, otherwise I'd definitely come back soon!

Yelp
Really yummy food with a long wait depending on when you arrive. 10m in line to order, 35m to pickup food. Restaurant was a bit harder to find as well as it is located behind the main street in an unlabeled food hall. Seating is a bit difficult due to the popularity of the restaurants in the plaza so although we walked around to explore/try other foods, it did take time to find seating as well. Due to egg shortage, the bo ne comes with one egg but overall is still very filling! Really tender beef and everything was so flavMy husband made his into a sandwich but most people tear pieces off the bread to dip/make smaller custom bites. also appreciated how the bo ne skillet was cow shaped, nice attention to detail.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow what a hole in the wall! My friend took me here for lunch and it's located in a low key plaza. Within that plaza is a food court area and many small shops/bakeries around. Highly recommend place because it is yummy. Keep in mind, they only give one egg now due to the shortage and it costs $20 each dish. Cash only. Each dish comes with one egg, two siu mai meatballs, pate, a piece of steak, and a baguette. For the side, it's a small salad with one slice of tomato, one slice of cucumber, and one slice of jalapeño over some lettuce. It also comes with a cup of tea to wash it all down. Don't think the dish is shareable because I was just content / full after eating everything (although I am a big eater). Overall, such a good place to grub! Someone cleans up after you so be sure to tip the table if you can!

Yelp
My mom and I shared a #1. I could have finished one by myself, but I wanted to save room for all the food that San Jose had to offer. THE BREAD! Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. If you're sharing one plate, I recommend ordering another piece of bread for all the spreading, swiping and dipping. THE STEAK! Was cooked to perfection. I asked for medium rare. It was more on the rare side than medium, not a complaint just an observation. Loved the sauce it was cooked with. We absorbed as much as we could with the bread. When I paid, I handed $20 and didn't receive any tip. They didn't tell me how much, but I knew one plate was about that much. My mom and I enjoyed it! For the cost, I would have enjoyed 2 eggs instead of 1, even with the inflation of the cost of eggs. Nonetheless, I would definitely love to come again!
google avatar

Yelp
There are only two items on the menu, and as for their namesake dish, they do it very well. Be forewarned that the wait can be quite long - 30-40 minutes from when I ordered, for weekend lunch. You get a pager and wait for it to buzz. I got a hot plate full of grilled rare beef, pate, meatball, onions, and egg, all doused in oyster sauce, along with a baguette to soak up the flavors. There was also a side salad and a cup of tea. Definitely one of the more interesting dishes I have tried and not something you can find outside of a Vietnamese neighborhood.

Yelp
This is one of the vendors in the Lion Plaza food court. Tables can be hard to find when it's busy. Family told me they have the best bo ne around, and I believe them after trying it. Everything on the plate was incredibly flavorful. The sauce had a sweet soy garlic flavor profile and the meat was flavorful. The baguette is also super soft and is a perfect vessel for eating everything together and soaking up the sauce. The egg adds a little creaminess and the side salad adds a little tartness to the palate. The dish just hits all the right flavor notes for me! Cash only. It does take a while for the food to come out. Expect around 30ish minutes wait for food to be ready. I know they're opening a location in Vietnam Town, so I'm looking forward to that!

Yelp
Have wanted to try this place out for a while after my friend and I talked about it. It's located in a food court in a plaza. There are a couple different food spots that share a common seating area. Now, we did come at lunchtime, but this place is busy as heck! They have so many orders going out, it made it hard to see even where to order. But that also meant their food should be super tasty with how many orders they were getting. You get a pager after ordering, and we had about a 20-25 minute wait for our order of Bo Ne ($20; cash only). The dish comes on a hot plate and includes steak (I believe filet), pate, a meatball, and two eggs, as well as a baguette, salad, and cup of tea. Be prepared to flip the steak pieces to sear while the hot plate is still hot enough! I asked for medium rare and it did out come on the rarer side but after searing it, it was good. The steak was seasoned perfectly and was super tender and juicy. I really liked the savory pate and spread it on the still warm and soft baguette. The sunnyside up eggs were cooked well too. They soak up the flavor from everything else on the plate, which makes them even more delicious. I didn't have any leftover bread but I would have used it to get any of the remaining sauce. It can be hard finding a table to sit down and eat at. I would recommend coming not directly at lunchtime to avoid a longer wait. But I think it's worth it either way. A quick meal that satisfied my stomach.

Yelp
Whenever I come down to San Jose, I always suggest to eat here first no matter what. It's definitely my go to spot when visiting San Jose. I feel like there's only one thing to get here which is the Bo Ne with Filet Mignon. If you're unfamiliar with Bo Ne, it is a Vietnamese breakfast dish with steak, eggs, pate, and bread. And Bo Ne Phu Yen makes it best in the Bay (at least compared to the others I've tried). The bread paired with eggs and pate dipped in their savory sweet steak sauce is just SOOOOOO GOOD. I crave this right away when I hear the words "San Jose." The filet mignon is always pretty tender. They tend to undercook the meat if you order medium rare causing the meat to be chewy at times. I would suggest ordering the steak medium. Also, it is CASH ONLY! So be prepared.

Yelp
Was craving Bo Ne and had to come here. It's tucked in with other great restaurants that have different specialties so its good for a group to get different things without having to compromise. Been to a lot of other places that serve BoNe but this place does it the best even the bread is perfect, super fluffy and soft. And I dont even like bread like that but I would eat this bread itself.

Yelp
I've been going to Lion Plaza for many years now ever since I was a little kid. Recently, social media has been hyping up the sizzling steak plate at Bo Ne Phu Yen., I have eaten at other food stalls inside the food court but never here. So I recently tried it out and went during off peak hours and didn't have to wait that long. I probably waited less than 15 minutes. When my order was ready, it was piping hot and sizzling. For $20, cash only, you get the steak which I got medium, pate, eggs, meatballs, side salad, the airy and crusty bread, and tea. The steak was absolutely tender and paired well with everything on the plate. I really love Vietnamese sizzling steak plates and this is one of the best in San Jose. The owner spoke to me and said that he plans to open a restaurant at Vietnam Town in 2 to 3 months and will ultimately either sell the Lion Plaza location or keep it. He is still not sure. The new Vietnam Town location will offer more menu items and other surprises. I'm excited to see what else is in store and a huge good luck and lots of success to his new location.

Yelp
Hands down best Bo Ne place in San Jose, maybe even the Bay Area! The steak is seasoned perfectly, flavorful, and juicy and the bread is light and fluffy. I believe they make their own banh mi here, which explains why it's so much better than other bo ne places. It's nestled in the food court of lion market, so it might be a little difficult to find, but trust me, it's so worth it. Been going here for years and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon

Yelp
My bestie came to visit from Hawaii, so we gotta hit all the spots that she's seen on social media. I've been to the Lion Plaza many times, but for some reason I've never gone into this food court... I actually couldn't figure out which way until I pulled google maps up and realized I walked right past the entrance... oops. For $20, I am honestly surprised how much we get (especially nowadays). We both got our own filet mignon order and that was definitely way too much food, 1 is sharable - 2... we were carrying our stomachs to the car. Just the smell in there alone was intoxicating in the most wonderful way. I am honestly mad I haven't tried this place earlier. Around 9:30am, there was some people, not too packed and thankfully we were able to get a table to sit. Service is minimal as you just order (CASH ONLY) and pick up when they got the tray ready. I still can't believe all the food was only for $20, the steak was cooked perfectly to my preference of medium rare and super juicy on the hot sizzling plate with all the other meats... over easy eggs too. The warm baguette was the perfect accompaniment to grab everything together for the meal - though I would've so had this with rice for lunch or dinner too. It's been 3 months and whenever I'm asked what I want for breakfast, this Bo Ne plate immediately comes to mind... I would totally drive 2 hours for it, waking up early for it. Final Thoughts: This is a very heavy meal (less if you share), but now one of my absolute favorite breakfasts. Will definitely suggest to come here for anyone that comes to visit and honestly I was worried about the social media hype... but it was accurate for how good this place is.

Yelp
It was good! They ask how you like your meat (I chose medium rare) and it continues to cook a little if it's sizzling. It's $20 cash or venmo (I think). It is in the food court but it wasn't hard to find. I'll definitely be returning to get my bo ne fix. It is more than enough to fill 1 person and comes with a bowl of salad, bread (of course), tea, and a small chili oil sauce.

Yelp
$20 for steak, eggs, pate and a banh mi, such a good deal. Cash only. I usually get my steak medium rare. The steak is savory yet slightly sweet. It really tastes as good as it looks and was exactly what I expected. It can be hard to find a table especially over the weekends since it gets pretty crowded. Also, there is a man who cleans up the tables but isn't very nice so after I finish eating-- I leave quickly.

Yelp
Super super delicious bo ne! We found the food court tucked in the back of the stores thanks to the other reviews, and were pleasantly greeted to the sight of everyone in the food court with this dish in front of them. I was really excited to try it! My group of 4 ordered 2 to share and some other small bites from neighboring stalls. We paid cash and didn't wait more than 20-25 mins on a Saturday lunch rush! Everything was delicious. The food was hot and flavorful, and everything pieced together so well. I'm still craving it!! It also paired very well with the sugarcane juice from the stall nextdoor. I will definitely be back (and I'll get extra pate next time!)

Yelp
$20 cash and enjoy. Get your food when the buzzer buzz and someone will bus your plates. It's basically in a Vietnamese food court. I like to get the sugar cane juice next to the store!

Yelp
what to say... the food was amazing and to die for! i really didn't know what to expect but everything was so freaking good. like the steak was seasoned to perfection and the pate didn't have a bad taste like some canned ones. ughhh wish i could go here everyday only bad part is you gotta bring cash!

Yelp
Saw it on being hyped up on social media and decided to check it out. There was definitely a lot of people that occupied the tiny little food court and many of them ordered from here.. As the chef worked like a machine to prepare the countess orders, you can see people constantly getting up from their seat to pick up their food. Coming up to the cashier, even though I do believe they have other items on the menu, there's only one thing that people go there for.. So, the person simply asked how many orders I wanted. Not even what I wanted, just how many. Ordered a single serving and just patiently waited for my food to get ready. All around Vietnamese flavors of sweet, salty, savory amazingness that comes from a tray of their delicious food. Bread, steak, eggs, some pate, veggies.. happy stomach.

Yelp
When a restaurant can get away with only serving a single dish there is a good chance it's going to be an awesome meal and Bo Ne Phu Yen does not disappoint. This was my first time trying Bo Ne, the Vietnamese version of Steak & Eggs, so I didn't have much to compare it to but it certainly exceeded whatever expectations I may have had for it. It's served sizzling with the steak in the process of cooking, giving you ample time to take in the delicious aroma before you dig in. A key feature of Bo Ne is the presence of pate alongside the steak, an addition that reveals the French influence that runs through many modern Vietnamese dishes. I was skeptical about how much I would enjoy the pate but much to my surprise it turned out to be the best part of the dish, providing an incredibly meaty richness to each bite as the flavors blended together. It's served alongside a French roll which becomes the perfect vehicle for soaking up all the rich sauce at the end of the meal and I made sure to not leave a single drop. If you are like me and find yourself rarely venturing east of Highway 87 during your normal routine I highly recommend you commit to making a trip out to Bo Ne Phu Yen to try this unique and flavorsome meal.

Yelp
Coming here right when they make their bread is life changing. Their bread is so soft and fluffy. The meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned. The workers are so nice and kind. I would definitely say that this place is the best Bo Ne place in all of San Jose. The eggs are cooked and seasoned well. Combining the bread, steak, pate, and eggs all together gives you the perfect bite. Love this place and will always be coming back.

Yelp
Tucked away in a food court, their main plate comes with, an over egg, paté, meat ball, and filet mignon (cooked to your preference), it came out perfectly tender, small salad, small cup of hot tea, and a pillow yet crunchy warm baguette all for $20! Best deal I have seen in san jose. Everything comes out hot and fresh. Cash only here. I also went to the spot next to it and got a fresh sugar cane juice. Will be back , to try the plate that has tomatoe rice.

Yelp
This place located inside the Lion Plaza food court area. The food court isn't the cleanest or the newest but there is a lot of traditional Vietnamese food here. Plenty of seating as well. This place is cash only. You would just pick it up when it's ready. The bread was hot and fresh. The salad was nothing crazy. The bo ne here is tasty and savory. The meat was tender and the pate was smooth. Definitely a must try.

Yelp
They're serving their bo ne with only one egg instead of two now, likely due to egg shortage.

Yelp
Bo Ne Phu Yen is located in a food court in the same plaza as Lion Supermarket; there's no signage but you have to walk further in and you'll see crowds of people in the food court area. The area is set up very simply, and finding a seat is a challenge. I went on a Sunday morning sometime before 11 and people were already standing like hawks to swoop up tables as diners finished. The stall is set up in the far corner of the food court, and you basically walk up to place an order and pay as they hand you a pager and pump out the dishes. I was quoted a 20 minute wait, which gave me time to get some sugarcane juice next door and find seating outside. Typically Bo Ne refers to a Vietnamese breakfast dish of braised beef and eggs served on a hot plate, the Asian equivalent of steak and eggs. The dish here comes with a baguette, salad, and tea. I would say skip the salad, but the beef slices were very flavorful and tender. The pate, sauce and egg goes great with the baguette, which was nice and fluffy. The meat ball wasn't quite my favorite, but otherwise the dish was solid. Unfortunately because of social media fame, they have really steep prices--$20 cash for a breakfast in a bustling food court. Overall I think this place is worth a try if you've never tried Bo Ne before.

Yelp
This is so good! The bread is super, the pâté is good, the meat and sauce is good. They are always nice to me. It can get really busy and kind of a long wait, but it's worth it. If you don't want to wait, come when or before they open. ***Also, they are moving soon to vietnam town on story road. They will be on the Walmart side.

Yelp
Nestled in a food court, it was still pretty easy to grab seats around 12pm for lunch. It's cash only and took about 30 minutes for the food to come out when we placed 4 orders. The bo ne comes with steak at your preferred doneness level, 2 eggs, meatball, pate, side salad, baguette, soy sauce, and tea. It's a great value for $20. The baguette was perfect, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Use the soy sauce sparingly because I made my meal a bit too salty trying to use the full amount that they give. The sizzling plate it came out on didn't stay hot for long (which is an anomaly according to a friend), since it usually stays hot long enough for his pate to get crispy on the bottom. Good place for a vietnamese breakfast, or if you're just craving steak in general.

Yelp
So hard to find the place that sell authentic Bo Ne which is sizzling beef, serves with pate, eggs and salads. This restaurant only sells one type of dish, so you know that they are mastering their signature dish. The restaurant is in the food court, so you will need to pay at the counter and they will buzz you when the food is ready. I went there last Saturday, and it was very busy, so wait around 20-30 mins are expected. It is a little hard to find, but you will need to walk thru a big gate that lead into a separate food court. Hope you found it and enjoy the food! It tastes like something you can get in Vietnam!

Yelp
Made a special trip here but honestly I can't rate it as high as others based on the novelty and other factors. First off this place is not easy to find. It's NOT inside the Lion Market although parking is in the same plaza. Facing Lion Market, find a small alley (could be blocked by other merchandize displayed out), walk pass the small alley and enter another court yard. Then in the middle of the court yard there's the food court, and Bo Ne is inside the food court. So now I understand why all the Yelper pictures don't show a proper menu picture. Anyhow, on a Sunday noon lunch time, this place is already swamped. The small short handed staff cannot handle so many orders, I was told to wait 40-50 minutes to order. So I backed off. However! My friend ordered ahead of mine and managed to get his order in 40 minutes and I got to try a piece of the beef. It is soft and the plate is saucy. The order comes with bread and the iron plate of 2 eggs and fillet mignon beef. The new price is $20, CASH ONLY. I did not give it too many high points for novelty because there are other sizzling plate restaurants. In comparison, it's not bad but can't say it's worth a trip to come here just for it. The Quan Hue next door is much more worthy.
