"San Jose’s best bò né (sizzling, pâté-topped steak and eggs) can be tricky to find inside a shopping center in Little Saigon, but Bò Né Phú Yên is worth getting a bit lost for. They’ve got the regional delicacy down to a science, perfectly searing the beef and serving it with a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside baguette. Eat at one of the food court tables or just take it to go. " - shoshi parks

"There’s something about a sizzling platter that elicits excitement and at Bò Né Phú Yên, that delight and anticipation are well-earned. On a recent food tour of San Jose with a friend, they took me to this gem of a restaurant, hidden in a corner of the food court at Lion Plaza on Tully Road. This restaurant specializes in Bò Né, a Vietnamese dish that here comes with beef under a layer of red onion slivers and cilantro, a pork meatball, two eggs, and a smear of pate, all arriving blistering hot on a cow-shaped cast iron platter. Tearing off fluffy pieces of banh mi bread, we constructed bites with a smear of pate, bits of beef and onion, a smattering of just-set egg, and a hit of hot chile oil, all culminated in a perfect bite each time. The deep earthy hit of pate with the umami flavor of the marinated beef, along with the drippy egg made for a messy, but satisfying lunch. The restaurant is cash only, as are some of the other food stalls, so prepare accordingly. If you’re looking for a delightful second dish to try, go for the Bánh Khọt at Quan Hue in the same food court." - Lauren Saria

Amazing food for an amazing price! My husband and I are both big eaters, but we were pretty full after sharing one bò né between the two of us for $20. My brother, sister-in-law, and mom shared a second bò né and almost had leftovers. The cow shaped sizzling plate was unique and very cool! My favorite part was the warm toasty bread that paired perfectly with the juicy tender steak and paté! Next time we'll definitely see if we can get two though since we were practically fighting over it. We went on a Monday around noon and it was about 20min wait in line before ordering, then about 15min for the food to come out. Absolutely worth the wait, but it's good to divide and conquer to pick up some apps (i.e. spring rolls) from places nearby/grab a table when one frees up! Food court is a bit small, but cleaner than I expected, with several bussers on standby.

I've tried a few Bo Ne places but this one is my absolute favorite! Bo Ne Phu Yen is located inside a food court at Lion Plaza. They specialize in the Bo Ne and I can definitely see why! This is a great spot for casual eating. They are cash only and at $20, you can get Bo Ne (Shaking Beef) with lettuce, bread, and tea all included. The beef is very tender and soft that you can use a spoon to cut through it. How I usually eat Bo Ne is by taking the bread and dipping it in all the sauce, add a bit of egg, onion, pate, beef, and then take a bite out of it. This spot does not skimp out on the pate. The lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber helps to cleanse your palate as needed and I like how hot tea was also included. Since this is located in a plaza, there is a lot of parking, but it can get busy over the weekends. One thing I would recommend is to also include a plastic knife as a utensil to cut the beef since the utensils we were given were a pair of chopsticks, a spoon, and a fork.

I'd heard about this restaurant before from a friend of mine when I asked her to suggest me a good place to have Bo ne (Vietnamese beef steak) in San Jose. I finally came there with my family and the food satisfied all of us . It is interesting that they only have one item to order on the menu it is a must-try for everyone. I personally ordered mine cooked medium. The meat was tender. The flavor was addictive. It definitely surpassed my expectations. To accompany the steak, they also provided a sate soy sauce. Just remember to add it sparingly, as a little goes a long way. I especially like to eat their sour and sweet salad together with this dish since it enhanced the flavors perfectly. One thing to note is that they only accept cash, and the price is a flat $20 with no additional tax. The price appears to be pricey but they use expensive cut of meat so it makes sense for that price. I need to mention that this restaurant is located within the food court that have other restaurants there as well. Arriving at noon on a Saturday, I discovered that seating inside was limited and in high demand. While they do offer outdoor seating, the chilly weather prompted us to wait for an indoor spot. It took a bit of patience, as we kept a watchful eye for any available tables, ready to claim them before someone else did. This is a big downside because this kind of dish should only be for dine in - it tastes worse if you order it for to go for sure and it was stressful to look for seats and tables although we had no problem with parking. I took back one star due to this reason.

The food was decent. $20 a plate. Only one of a few places that sells this dish in San Jose

To be upfront the meal is $20 for an order of the famous Bo Ne. The chef is very nice and makes each meal to order. It's a generous amount with a side salad, fresh and crispy bread and the sizzling beef cooked to either medium rare or rare. The beef is very tender and flavorful, the side of the pate spread is a unique flavor but a bit on the sweeter side. Everything about the meal compliments one another and it is one of the best Bo Ne I've had in a while.

This guy is super friendly and pretty good and welcoming presence. Food is good and I would eat her again. It's located on the left side of the Lion Plaza food court. You and eat inside or out side. I would recommend that he gives customers a plastic knife. You can cut open the fresh bread and make a sandwich or tear up the bread and put some of the toppings on the bread to eat.

4 stars for food because the taste is inconsistent. The first time I went here the food was delicious! It made me want to go back for more. The meat was tender and flavorful. The pate had a lot of flavor too. Overall the first time was amazing, and great service from Jack. The 2nd time I went the meat didn't have flavor, like there was no sauce or it wasn't marinated. I'm not sure. It was still tender though. The pate was still great! Out of the two Bo Ne places I've tried, I prefer this place over the other one because there's more flavor. The other place had no flavor in their pate or meat so it was really plain. About the location: This place is inside a food court with NO AC or air circulation, so on a hot day in SJ, you'd be sweating while eating. It can get crowded during lunch time, making it hard to find seating. There is someone there who busses the tables so you don't have to worry about cleaning up. Service-wise is a hit or miss too but typical of an Asian place. It is what it is. I don't expect much lol.
