Bockem - Review - Smíchov - Prague - The Infatuation

"Set in an early-20th-century building in a quiet part of Smichov, Bockem has yet to catch the attention of most visitors, leaving in-the-know locals to enjoy this 26-seat spot with exposed brick walls and servers that are so chipper and friendly, you’d think they were trained in California. Dinner is a five-course affair of whatever's in season, paired with natural wine from Austria, Slovakia, and Moravia. The chef plays with ingredients and techniques, serving dishes that are Central European-ish, but drawing inspiration from all over the continent. Since it opened in 2019, Bockem’s Wednesday-to-Sunday breakfast/brunch has becometheplace to wake up with an espresso and a croque monsieur or a high-rise benedict souffle." - David Farley

The 28 Best Restaurants in Prague, Czech Republic | Eater

"Equally famous for set-menu brunch as it is for tasting menus in the evenings, Bockem is a true gem in the city’s food scene. Part of its charm lies in its unassuming location in Smíchov and its cozy, brick-walled dining room that seats about 20. Chef and co-owner Ondřej Kynčl works wonders with locally grown, seasonal ingredients, helping evolve perceptions of Czech food, even among locals. While the five-course dinner menu changes often, brunch always includes some signature dishes, especially the sky-high souffle eggs Benedict that never fails to impress." - Dan Clapson

"Good food and warm hospitality await in this 1905 townhouse located near the Vltava River and Kinský Garden. The enthusiasm of the team is palpable. The cosy, somewhat shabby-chic decor and the extremely dedicated, friendly and courteous front-of-house team make for a wonderful atmosphere. The food is cooked with respect for tradition, but also with a modern twist. In the morning, everything revolves around breakfast, but in the evening, the five-course set menu takes centre stage – think mouthwatering dishes such as beef cheeks with rose hip, cranberry and truffle, or the classic Bohemian sour soup." - Michelin Inspector

The 8 Best New Restaurants in Prague | Eater

"Former Cafe de Paris executive chef Ondrej Kyncl is behind Bockem, a quiet respite mere steps away from Prague’s buzzy city center. Set in an early 20th-century building and designed with unfinished walls and raw materials like wood, rock, and iron, the young dining room (with seating for 26) already feels perfectly patinated. Bockem kicked into gear this past summer plating a three-course breakfast tasting menu (320 korunas or $12), with European dishes like croque monsieur and a cheffy take on a classic Czech breakfast, krupicová kaše (semolina porridge topped with cinnamon sugar and ghee). Kyncl’s seven-course dinner menu (1,200 korunas or $51), which debuted in October, embraces a similar mix of European and Bohemian. Expect a modern take on Czech fine dining, with simply plated dishes built on local and seasonal produce, like beets with blueberries and blackberries capped with vanilla-vinegar meringue shards or roasted duck with wild mushrooms, pumpkin seeds, and sour apple." - Kat Odell

This has been easily the best dining experience I have ever had in Prague! Not only was the menu creative and delicious, I happened to pick the lemonade pairing to go along with it and it was the highlight of my meal. Each lemonade is homemade and fermented with different flavors and pair perfectly with each dish! On top of all of that, the service was fantastic! Our servers were, kind, thoughtful, and fun, which really made the experience an overall 10/10!

We really appreciated the warm welcome. The waitress explains all the dishes and takes the time to chat and share her experiences. The service is fast. The dishes are very good and carefully prepared. The prices are reasonable

A True Culinary Gem in Prague I'm so glad I chose Bockem during my recent visit to Prague—what a hidden gem, tucked away from the usual tourist paths. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Even though the restaurant was fully booked and clearly busy, they took the time to engage with us, explain each dish in detail, and share stories about the local ingredients and the winemakers behind the thoughtfully selected wines. As for the food—absolutely divine. The tasting menu was refined and beautifully presented, with every course offering a perfectly balanced mix of flavor, texture, and creativity. It was fine dining at its best. This was, without a doubt, an unforgettable dining experience. I'd go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend Bockem to anyone visiting Prague.

From the moment you step inside, you feel genuinely welcome. The intimate, slightly minimalist industrial setting (just 26 seats) creates an immediate sense of coziness. The five-course degustation menu begins with a complimentary dish from chef Ondřej – a delightful gesture that sets the tone for a flavourful adventure. Each course is well-balanced, creative, and beautifully presented, making the experience both relaxed and refined. An absolute must-visit!

Delicious food, but unfortunately without any lactose free or alternative options. There wasn’t a selection of teas, only jasmine. Staff was very friendly.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in the entire world! The fermented lemonade pairing is beyond any pairing I've had anywhere else. I am so glad I booked this restaurant. You must make a reservation as there is limited seating and if you don't, expect to be turned away. I was hesitant to book this restaurant as it was my first time in Prague, going in blind, and it's expensive for local standards - but very reasonable for West Coast US. The staff was amazing, friendly, and made me feel welcomed and comfortable. The food was amazing in every bite. Perfectly marinated, cooked, arranged and presented. I would say the lamb dish was underwhelming compared to the other dishes though. They gave a compliment dessert - which is nice in case you're still hungry and who can refuse more amazing dessert?! The restaurant is in a beautifully built historical brick building. The ceiling design is amazing. It is a place that you can dress up or wear casual. Many guests were dressed very casual.
