Unfortunately we’ve just had a very disappointing brunch experience at Bockem, food and service-wise. The hollandaise in their ‘signature’ Florentine tasted bitter, bacon tasted very poor and the bread base of the dish was soggy already when it was brought to us - probably because the wilted spinach was too full of water. Needless to say we left 65% of the dish untouched. The hollandaise sauce in chorizo dumpling dish was too rich for the dish and resembled the taste and texture of the nacho cheese sauce from a jar - not sure anyone wants that. The dumpling itself was just dough. When the waitress was collecting the plates, she asked how we found the dishes but clearly didn’t want to hear anything apart from flattery/praise as she got suddenly very rude when the above comments were voiced to her in a very polite and constructive manner. Her response was along the lines of ‘well, everyone else liked it’ and ‘if you didn’t like it, where is it’ - mind you, as mentioned earlier, a lot of the both dishes were left untouched on the plates.
We’ve been staying in Prague for over 2 months and we’ve never had such disappointing, mocking and simply rude service, let alone the combination of poor service and poor food - and we couldn’t have expected this would happen in a place that was mentioned in a Michelin guide in 2021. The chestnut soup (mousse really) and semolina pudding were ok but nothing to write home about. The apple cake that comes with a surcharge (not sure why) basically tastes like a mix of baked apples and crunchy cereal which is again a bit far from the level we expected from Bockem.
We genuinely hope the restaurant takes some time to train their staff on how to work with customers because we are not the first or only people who were or ever will be displeased with the food. Mistakes happen but it’s how your staff reacts to and addresses them, and today this was handled very poorly.
