The Best Restaurants At LAX

"The number of LAX food spots based on restaurants from the '90s and 2000s should tell you how long since the dining program here was overhauled. We’re not mad that Border Grill has stuck around, though. This airport location of a long-running Mexican spot has solid steak quesadillas, nachos, and a roomy bar where you order a margarita or two before going wheels up." - brant cox, sylvio martins

Google
On a long layover at LAX, I had the chance to look at all the eateries and decided to have dinner here. I had the Chili Relleno Burger, and it was amazing. A great taste, and a good size, good value for the money, something you don't often get at any airport. The staff were very friendly and a ni e atmosphere with Mexican music playing softly and games on the tvs at the bar.. I'll definitely eat here next time.

Google
We split a Border Grill Bowl, and loved it. I enjoyed a Sierra Nevada Hazy Little IPA! The service was splendid.

Google
Burritos were $22 per person, which is already insane… they tasted like something I could’ve made at home or gotten from a Taco Bell. Service was a joke, waited 20+ minutes for 2 burritos. Multiple people that ordered after me got their orders fairly quickly. When I did receive my food, there was not a “sorry for the wait” or anything along those lines - she just called out my order number and slid it over to me. If you’re expecting something “quick” before your flight, go elsewhere.

TJ Larson

Google
The carne asada burrito was really good. Salsa was more heat than flavor. Prices are high (to be expected here I guess) plenty of menu options. Good seating and good service.

Google
Border Grill at LAX is a surprisingly great airport dining spot! I stopped in during a layover and was impressed by the flavorful food and quick service. The menu has a solid mix of modern Mexican options — fresh, bold, and satisfying. I ordered Steak Asada Burrito, and it hit the spot before my flight. Prices are what you’d expect for an airport, but the quality and portions made it worth it. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the space was clean with a nice sit-down vibe for an airport restaurant. Definitely one of the better food choices at LAX!

Google
Had a good experience here at Border Grill. The Chili Relleno burger sounded good but I really just wanted the burger patty and ordered two. They were the best two burger patties I’ve had that I didn’t cook myself. Cooked just right, juicy and perfect amount of salt. I went back and ordered two more to take on my long (14 hour) flight.

Joseph Brown

Google
My experience did not reflect their low rating. The self order kiosk did not have the breakfast burrito, so I asked and they placed my order for me. I thought the burrito was excellent and I really enjoyed the salsa. It actually had kick, I’d still enjoy more but definitely satisfied. The chips could use salt and that would have raised this rating.

Sara C.

Google
My experience also did not reflect the low rating so it - someone made improvements I guess. This is the best airport meal I’ve ever had and the service was fast and efficient. Re commend steak quesadilla and the beans!

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant that is in terminal two of the Los Angeles airport! We were looking for a place to eat and stumbled here. The food was really amazingly good! Good Carne Asada bowl that I had and my wife enjoyed her grilled chicken nachos. If you find yourself waiting for a flight as we did, and are looking for a decent place to eat. Highly recommended!

Yelp
THE SERVICE HERE IS TERRIBLE! The people that work here are more concerned with socializing with each other than to do their job!!!! The man that works behind the bar was too unbothered to help me with my order or even look my way... I had to get up twice to address him and still, as I write this I still haven't been serviced.

Yelp
Border Grill LAX 03.23.2024. Got through the gates of LAX a couple of hours before our flight. We found this place prior to entering our assigned terminal. Mexican food Border Grill, we all said why not?! :) Sat at the open bar for a party of 4. We were greeted by the nicest bartender. She was really cool and gave us nice vibes. Order 2 x bloody Mary's, IPA and margarita to start it off. All received within minutes of ordering. From the menu, ordered 2 breakfast burritos and Carne asada Nachos. All were delicous! You can watch sports while you eat since there are alot of TV monitors at the bar. Overall, no complaints about this establishment. Our waitress was nice and she delivered our food quickly. The breakfast burritos was large. I almost could not finish it. Lol. Yes the price is expensive. $20 for a burrito! but expected since you are at the Los Angeles LAX airport. We are on vacation so we do not care. Cool place, it's a large Island bar set up. If you go international, try this place out. :)

Yelp
One of the few restaurants in the international terminal that feels somewhat like a sit down. The food was nasty, not a good version of Tex-mex or true Mexican. I ordered the Cadillac Margarita and couldn't taste the alcohol, but it cost me $30. Try somewhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
I wouldn't come back to this restaurant at all. Unfortunately, we ordered the steak breakfast burritos. At first bite, it fell apart. You would think for the amount I paid, it would be better kept together! The beans were way too overwhelming. When asking for water, the waitress responded, "we just have the courtesy water cup" in a rude way. However, when we decided to have a drink at the bar when eating our food, another waitress kept refilling our waters. Overall, this could be much better!

Yelp
Great spot for a grab and go breakfast before getting in a plane. The peppers and beans in their breakfast burrito hit the spot. They also offer fresh tortillas chips with a side of salsa. It was a large burrito filled with eggs, bacon, onions peppers, beans, and cheese. Filled me up for my long flight headed to East coast. The service is automated and fast. A little pricey but it's the airport. They also have a bar and seating area.
google avatar

Christina K.

Yelp
I've gotten their burritos to go a few times before heading to the Hawaiian terminal. They are huge - I ate about half in a sitting and munched another 1/4, but I think I'm done. I got the fish burrito and it is very filling. I like the chips a lot. Yes, it's pricey - it's $22.99 for the burrito, plus tax, plus the $1 convenience fee of ordering online, to get to almost $27. I might just get the veggie burrito next time and make sure to order at the kiosk! But if you have a friend to share with, this is plenty of food.

Yelp
Chicken tacos were delicious. Chips and salsa were ok. Salsa could be better and not enough provided.
google avatar

Archie R.

Yelp
The food was pretty decent for airport food. The portion size was pretty nice as well. Definitely will keep me full for the flight. The service was extremely quick. Seems not many people at the airport this morning. The ambiance is chill with the music giving it a video be too.
google avatar

Katelyn K.

Yelp
Stopped by for the first time for a quick bite before flight. I ordered quesadillas steak asada and chips and salsa. I thought the portion is going to be small but they were huge! Definitely enough to share for 4 people for quick bites. Seating area was full but we managed to find a table. A good option to consider at the airport!

Yelp
Review on alcohol only -- They had a pretty good wine selection, they had my favorite Chardonnay - Louis Jadot (dry, buttery, not acidic or sour). Initially they gave me the last few drops of two different bottles and it was flat, and I hate to be that person, but I know what it's supposed to taste like. So I said very politely it tastes old, the waiter gladly opened a new bottle and gave me a tasting of it before giving me a new glass of it. It was so good and just what I needed to start off my vacation. Super kind and attentive staff!

Yelp
Surprisingly delicious meal at Tom Bradley international airport. The asada was tender and juicy, the pico de gallo, cabbage slaw and guacamole was super fresh, very well seasoned and oh so perfectly tart. Great service too.

Yelp
We were in the international terminal of LAX while waiting for our flight and wanted to celebrate the beginning of vacay with a cocktail! Border Grill was open until midnight and had a lot of customers at the bar. I can't speak to their food but the drink was great! I opted for a vodka soda with cranberry and they gave us the option of a single or a double. The service was excellent. We felt very well tended to. This was a fun spot to hang for a little while. The food coming out looked really good, too, so will need to try that in the future.
google avatar

Thanks G.

Yelp
Honestly not terrible for airport food. The reviews here don't account for that. It was a 4/10 bacon breakfast burrito, but probably like a 8/10 for the airport lol. Same thing with the price. Yes, $25 for a breakfast burrito is ridiculous when I could go buy 2-3 amazing burritos on any corner in LA for that price, but this is LAX and they have a captive audience. The people working were nice. The chips weren't the worst I've had. All in all, glad I went here rather than Panda Express or any of the other alternatives.
google avatar

Yelp
Chile relleno burger was awesome!!! Nice customer service! I definitely come back. Thanks.

Yelp
If you travel enough, you know airport food is expensive however this spot I feel is worth the money and the taste for sure is there. Pair the nachos with some tequila shots and you're set for your international trip like I did. Service was good and of course the ambiance was the standard airport hustle and bustle.

Yelp
A solid choice for a meal while waiting in Tom Bradley at LAX. We ordered the Border Grill Bowl with carne asada. Was pleasantly surprised with how good it was and that they gave a decent portion size. Definitely more expensive at $23.50 for a bowl. If I wasn't at LAX, I would never pay this much for this bowl. But given the fact you're in an airport, the price wasn't that bad considering the quality and amount of food received for an airport. They were super efficient - I got my food within 2 minutes of ordering. They also serve alcohol if you're looking for a drink with your meal. We've eaten here a couple other times in the past while waiting at LAX. Probably your best choice for food in the area.

Yelp
In this terminal, there is no competition if you want breakfast rather than a sandwich. I decided to try their breakfast burrito because it sounded like it could be good. I expected a lot more for their $$$ prices. The burrito was generously sized. The filling was a mix of good to very sad. It technically had everything they said: eggs (very sad "scrambled eggs" which appeared to be made from a powdered mix), beans, Pico de Gallo sauce (was OK), and a chile relleno (which was very good, the redeeming factor). With all that said, I get better burritos for $2 at the Stripes convenience store in Texas. The tortilla chips were decent, American style thin chips. The salsa that came with the chips was very mediocre. The server asked if I wanted to add bacon. Since otherwise there was no meat, I said "yes," not knowing it would be over 3 dollars for two very small, paper-thin pieces of "bacon." It was very disappointing. For the price, I thought the $4 orange juice would be fresh, but no, it was a small bottle of mediocre juice made from concentrate. The prices are very high and the food quality is, at best, mediocre. Perhaps their lunch / dinner entrees are better. On the positive side, the service was fair, the tables clean, the atmosphere as pleasant as it can be in a terminal, and at least they were open early in the morning. Will I order it again? No. I will pack a granola bar to tide me over until I get to DFW, where I can get a much better breakfast at McDonald's at a great price. BTW, though this place serves breakfast, they do not serve coffee. If you want coffee, go stand in line at another business first. They do serve all kinds of alcoholic beverages and a couple of juice / soda options.

Yelp
LAX as a whole has horrible food choices. This place though, this place Border Grill is a shining star in the darkness that is LAX food options. I ordered the steak tacos. Everything was fresh. The steak was juicy and tender. The guac was amazing and the corn tortillas were soft and fresh as well. The portions were huge. More steak than these corn could handle. I'm so happy that I found this place. You will be too!
google avatar

Jordan N.

Yelp
Why did I bother coming here... I could have just waited to get to Texas for far better Tex-Mex. This place was not worth going to - I keep forgetting California doesn't do Tex-Mex well, and their Cali-Mex isn't really a thing. If anything SoCal does right in the realm of "Mexican"... it's Mexican. Avoid this place, and just hold your horses 'til you get to a better airport (or city).
google avatar

Yelp
For an airport fast food place, Border Grill does not disappoint. Our bartenders and servers, Carlos and Jean, were exceptional. Whenever we fly internationally, we will be back! The four of us shared the Chile Relleno burger and a taco bowl made with carnitas. We left satisfied and full. I'd pass on the chips and salsa, lots of chips; hardly any salsa (packaged in small condiment containers). But to be fair, the salsa was delicious. Thank you Carlos and Jean, the service you provided was better than most restaurants that carry 5 stars. You started our vacation off right!
google avatar

Taylor J.

Yelp
The blonde bartender is so so so so sweet. She brightened my day. So friendly and professional. All the women working the bar are so attentive and have great spirit!!!
google avatar

Jeudi J.

Yelp
Don't know about the food yet but here's my experience so far. And....the tables are disgusting, I asked someone if they could wipe them, they said ask the bartender, so I did. He said "Nobody works there but I can give you a towel." He wet down a towel, I said "So I'm supposed to wipe down my own table?" And he said yeah. The burrito is $20. You can't make this stuff up. It better be a damn good burrito but I won't be eating it here. Update: to be fair, the burrito was amazing. Heard the guy complaining about having to put so much stuff in it (I only added ) but he put out the goods. So changing this to 3 stars cuz of the gross table and rude bartender dude.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
$30 burrito bowl, asked for extra beans. Walking back to my gate and next thing i know my prized golf wang hoodie is covered in bean juice. I didn't even get 10 feet. Hoodie immediately covered in bean stains. Now you tell me what to do in this situation. I ended up going to the nearest bathroom and scrubbing that thing with water and public bathroom soap, took about 5 rigorous rounds of soaping and soaking to get it mostly out. This is all good and fine. I do as i like in public restrooms. But here i am at my gate with a soaking wet hoodie. This was going to be my blanket for my impending 15 hours flight to Australia. I am monitoring for any progress on drying but improvement is meager. Anyhow, fine food, poorly designed containers.

Fernando D.

Yelp
Haven't had a good burger in a while, I ordered the chile rilleno burger, I thought it was a great burger! It was cooked perfectly to my liking, although they didn't ask how I wanted my burger cooked, it came medium, very tasty, considering I just had a burger from the other end of the food court, Unami Burger, had an Unami classic double burger, for the same price, the comparison was night and day. After tasting the burger from the Border Grill, I regretted having the burger from Unami.
google avatar

Kent V.

Yelp
Its overpriced for what it is, but we're in an airport so what do you expect. The chicken bowl was delish but $21! It was super filling though and comes with rice and beans. Adding a beer and you're set for your flight. Service was fast and friendly!
google avatar

Ed T.

Yelp
Pros: 1. The burger is suprisingly tasty, and the quesadilla is good. 2. You can order at the counter or (I didn't know this) you can get table service and a waiter will take your order. Cons: 1. Takes a long time to get your food.
google avatar

Joy Q.

Yelp
Reaches expectations in terms of airport food. - order: machine kiosk order. Simple enough. - wait: after putting down my order on the kiosk, I waited around 10 minutes - seating: this place is located in the food hall and you can find a spot in the food hall. The international terminal is always busy so the seating is not ideal (crowded and not always clean) but it's good enough for a quick bite - food: I ordered the chicken bowl. Great portion of protection, salsa, beans, and some rice. My only complain is that there was too much lime juice in it
google avatar

minerva g.

Yelp
Service Got here at 3 pm one bartender no waiter so they won't serve you alcoholic drinks unless you sit at the bar. Okay no seats available. Bartender looks stressed has attitude. . Makes no sense. you take up space but don't offer service? if you don't know how to staff or run a restaurant don't own one here? Last time same issue.
google avatar

Jimmy G.

Yelp
The first thing that catches your eye is the high prices. Usually, those can be overlooked due to it being in an airport and in LA. The second thing is the odd layout. The menu seems small but if you go to the other side you'll find a full bar and a larger menu. A strange downside is that you cannot order anything from the bar if you can't find a seat at the bar. My group sat at their tables literally 3 feet from the bar but we still could only order from the limited bottled beers. I got the steak asada tacos and one of my group members had a quesadilla. She did not receive rice and beans with her order and had to bring it back to the counter to get it corrected. My tacos were okay. The tortillas were nothing to write home to abuela about, but the meat was adequate. I had to request actual salsa (beyond the pico de gallo). The rice was hard and flavorless. I was going to give this review three stars, but near the end of our meal, we saw one of the bartenders bring over draft beer to a table. I'm not sure if she was favoring certain groups, but it either broke their policy or they pick and choose who can drink draft beer at a table.

Yelp
worst place ! totally avoid it if you can . food service and ambiance is the worst hygiene here is f'd up. disaster alert !
google avatar

Yelp
Ugh. Won't try this place again. Had the Border nachos. When the staff person handed me the to-go box, it had cheese sauce on the bottom of the exterior of the box. I of course didn't notice until it had smeared all over my jacket. Sigh. But the worst was the nachos. Really wasn't worth the hefty price to start with but then I also found a piece of plastic in my food. At that point, it was too late to go back to complain cause I needed to catch my flight. Bottom line, too high of a price, lack of taste, and subpar quality control of what goes out to the customer (between a cheese-smeared box and plastic in the food). The incident actually really grossed me out because I kept wondering about kitchen cleanliness and food cross contamination.
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
I was in lax and needed a meal, so I figured this would work. I ordered a pork burrito and it was pretty decent. The portion was large enough and it had some chips and salsa. Of course, the prices are high, but it's an airport. It definitely wasn't the worst choice for a meal in lax.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Very much ehh airport food. I've been to the actual border grill and the food is good. We came here before our flight. I was craving nachos but of course they were out of both nacho cheese and steak! So we got the guacamole which came with chips and pico de gallo. Both chips and guacamole were ehh but pico de gallo was good. Overall just ok, but chips were not fresh and guac needed salt or something.
google avatar

Eugene B.

Yelp
The Border Grill at LAX is efficient and decent. The key is to scan the QR code on the table to order online. Because it also activates your table number, do not do any table hopping until your order arrives. There is a full bar so that's good. If by chance the app gives you issues, you can flag one of the servers to help. Although the food was decent, what I appreciated most was Border Grill had its own area for sitting. It felt less like a food court and more like a restaurant.
google avatar

Jenna D.

Yelp
WASTE OF TIME Even if you want only a bottled soda DO NOT come to this place if you are in a hurry. Even with only two guests at the bar the and three staff they are too busy talking to each other or working on getting tips from guests who are seated. Expect to be ignored or for the workers to say hi like they're going to help you out but instead turn around and waste your time...despite you getting there before guests arriving at the bar. I can understand slow service from a local bar but not from one inside one of the busiest terminals inside LAX. If you're looking for wine VINO is much better and will give you a proper pour. Save yourself some trouble and do not come here. There are more efficient businesses where you will get more for your money.

Anthony Q.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I tried to get service and the waitress said to go to the bar and get it myself. Mind you mostly everyone around me is getting some type of service. Do you think after having to go to the bar to service myself I should have to tip anyone? At that point I might as well grab it and open it myself. Ruined everything about trying to be at an airport and finding a nice place to relax before a flight. Definitely will not be coming back.

Kathya G.

Yelp
Service was horrible. Waitress looked like she hates her job. Pretty sad because any other border grill has excellent service. I don't recommend this place. I also spoke with the manager and he didn't seem to have a care in the world about me complaining about the service but I bet they liked taking my money.
google avatar

Piper R.

Yelp
You know the story: a few hours between flights, hungry, thirsty, tired. After we wandered around and found the gate we needed, we found Border Grill and Gaylene. She was the bartender, and we were lucky to grab a couple of seats at the end of the bar. We ordered the Chicken Nachos, which seemed to be a popular item with people near us. Gaylene poured us a couple of Chardonnays, and the fun began. We needed the food, we wanted the drinks, and we loved the fun we had at the bar. I don't care much for Tom Bradley International Terminal, but I really like the Border Grill (and Gaylene).

Yelp
This place is the spot. A hidden gem of the tom Bradley airport . We originally were going to the P.F Changs but a hot Cheeto eating employee said it would be a long wait. There was legit a handful of people in there dining area. Im happy that we found this gem and got the most amazing mango mojito and delicious chicken/ pork burrito. The staff was sooo welcoming and the area is sooo cute :) will be back
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
This place managed to mess up a quesadilla, which is pretty hard to do. They encourage you to order on the machines, only to not list all of the drinks. Asked for an extra plate or box, and the lady was pretty rude. Made a show of intentionally walking as slow as possible and gave me a dirty look. At least she looked happier when she was joking around with her coworkers! Anywhere is better than here!

Susan J.

Yelp
Worst service ever! Women at the bar have zero personality! Don't even acknowledge customers! When prompted they give attitude!

Yelp
I ate here two weeks ago so I don't really remember but I think it was so gorgeous and nice. I had a blast at this restaurant it was such a nice treat i would book a flight just to go here Love you guys! Vicky nation

Yelp
Service is the worst! It's not even busy & u can't get anyone to take ur order even while ur standing at the bar. Asked the older African American lady with red hair highlights for a menu & was ignored. Hubs went to order drinks and they were out of almost everything he ordered. Then he finally gets a drink and isn't allowed to sit down to drink it. He has to stand at the bar. There are so many other options- try elsewhere but here

Roy K.

Yelp
The most disgusting breakfast burrito I had in my life. It's mushy soup. And takes too long. Gross. Never eating there again.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
2.5 stars LAX tries to make airport food appealing by bringing in a bunch of celebrity chef chains into the mix of dining options. Border Grill represents just that: chef-driven, modern Mexican cuisine with a well-known brand! Might sound good, but in terms of execution, this was nothing more than vastly overpriced airport food that came with inattentive, slow service. First from the menu, I tried the Border Tostada Salad, a tossed mixture of romaine, black beans, cotija cheese, grilled poblano chile, charred corn, crema, salsa, and tortilla strips, all topped with guacamole and served over a tostada. Not bad flavorwise, but the portion was rather tiny for the price. Next, I had the Yucatán pork burrito, which came with flavorful marinated smoky, juicy pork, along with black beans, cheese, crema, arbol sauce, and cabbage slaw, all rolled into a flour tortilla and grilled. The burrito too was quite tasty, especially with the texture of the caramelized tortilla shell, but again it was hard to justify the price of the relatively small morsel. Get food here if you must (it's still better than many other options at LAX after all), but don't expect nearly the same level of experience, service, or value you'd expect at another location of Border Grill. After all, it's still airport food.

Yelp
Not many people would call me a shrinking violet or an invisible man or a timid Tim. Most would describe me as noticeable, live wire, big and other assertive adjectives. That's why I was flabbergasted at the Border Grill kiosk in the Tom Bradley terminal at LAX as none of the three bartenders would even glance at me trying to get there attention to secure a cocktail? I was actually being nice and patient, but to no avail. I must have looked like I had leprosy or something worse. This doesn't happen often and it really caught me off guard. I've always been a fan of the Border Grill. The girls running it have always been cutting edge and very talented. Well, when I couldn't flag anybody down to take my order and my money, I took myself and my group elsewhere (to Vino Volo) where it was the complete opposite of the Border Grill. Engaging wine aficionados, wonderful libations and a real good time waiting for our flight. It was like a party going on. I can act up when the situation calls for it; but in an airport setting where anything you purchase is at least triple the street price, I refuse to beg!

Yelp
Hete is awful!!! I am already here 35 minutes for buritto! Hete service is ZERO!!!! Go away guys!

Yelp
Citrus chicken burrito: at first the cabbage didn't bother me it was a nice crunch- but the bitter flavor didn't pair well with the sauce on the chicken in my opinion. I didn't even really want to finish the thing truth be told- but I was starving and had a long flight ahead of me. I think the fillings (which are universal regardless of protein selected) worked better with a shrimp or fish burrito. The tortilla was the saving grace and is grilled on high to give it a bit of a crispy crust. 3/4 If you have enough time I would recommend ordering in the sit down area where they come to you with the waiters. The waiters all seem very friendly, and you can get some Cholula or other hot sauce to use at your table. Because I was taking it to go I put a bunch of cholula in a little cup that they provided me.
