"Leave ice cream behind and dive into a serving of Botolino’s, which is made in Dallas. Owned by Carlo “Botolo” Gattini, a Dallas transplant from Tuscany, where his father owned MoMo Italian Kitchen, this little taste of Italian tradition is one of Dallas’s best spots for frozen treats. A kid-sized cup gets two scoops, while the larger cup gets three. Mix-and-match the flavors, with refreshing options including coconut stracciatella, mascarpone and fig, lemon and rose sorbetto, red guava sorbetto, and Thai iced tea. Botolino also makes cakes, sundaes, and affogatos (a gelato and coffee combo). Visit its locations on Lower Greenville, Preston Hollow, Bishop Arts, or its newest store in Plano." - Courtney E. Smith
"Gelato tastes best when it’s 100 degrees out and you know the owner is Italian—in this case, from Tuscany. The menu features 16 seasonal flavors ranging from the expected (chocolate, pistachio) to the unusual, like rich and creamy thai iced tea or pecan sweetened with maple syrup. "The pistachio cake combines pistachio and rose, which the folks at Botolino says honors the traditional pistachio-rose flavor combination popular in the Levant region and other parts of the Middle East. Paired with a caramel glaze on the outside, it consistently blows Dallas diners’ minds. There is also a mini-veresion of the cake that is filled with a raspberry jelly, if you’re looking for a smaller treat. To keep it real, Botolino’s Lower Greenville shop doesn’t have a lot of charm — it’s a walk-in ice cream spot. The Royal Lane location is probably better if you want to have your cake and eat it in a nice spot, too. Botolino also just opened a shop in Plano.
