5 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in NYC - Eater NY

"One of the latest, and one with considerable merit, is Brine Chicken. A neon sign at the end of the room announces fire-grilled chicken, and a quarter bird consisting of a skin-on leg and thigh comes with a choice of two sides, which are bigger than you’d expect and frequently Greek. The chicken is quite good, and my beet salad with a cloud of tzatziki was even better." - Eater Staff

The food was very well portioned the chicken tenders are definitely better deal. The Hispanic guy behind the counter was super nice!! He gave us more sauces to try since it was our first time here. The food was beyond good. The jalapeño sauce is my favorite and a recommended choice.

Google
I've tried this place twice. The chicken is a little dry, but the sauces are tasty. The fries are very good. The people working are quite friendly. However, the whole place is set up like an experiment in anti-hospitality. You order on a giant touch screen, have to give your phone number (even if you are dining in) and then your order goes to the kitchen. Now what? The kind people hand you a cup if you ordered a drink. Then you get a text. Mine was addressed to my credit card. The food came out, and it was mostly fine, but nothing about this experience makes me want to spend time here. It might just work better as a take out counter with no seating.

Haim Haviv

Google
Portion are on the smaller side and service is non existent as you order on a screen and pick it up. No vibe or music and the seating area was sticky and dirty. It’s an OK option overall, especially during 2-5pm Happy Hour.

Google
oh Nrine :( I’m super sad to report that the portions of Brine’s (always yummy) chicken tenders have shrunk to a such a shocking degree that I can’t see going back. Over the years, I have ordered their 3-piece tenders, eaten 2 and had 1 left over they were so nice and big. Maybe 5 inches and nice and thick. We’ll, tonight I ordered our usual so three 3-piece orders to feed the whole family ($48 for 9 pieces — $5.33 per piece) and wow… I wish I’d taken pictures of all nine in our order to show they were seriously less than half the size they used to be. But when I saw the middle one in the picture here I just had to say something. Just this tiny piece itself cost me $5.33!? Not cool, not at all worth it. Feeling ripped off. Boo. EDiT: I am changing my review to reflect the AMAZING customer service I received from Dan Mezzalingua. His responsiveness and intent to correct this situation is admirable, and I’m sure that future experiences at this location will be back to their previous high standards. Really, I’m impressed with the professionalism and personalized attention paid to this matter. Mistakes and inconsistencies happen, it’s how they’re handled that matters. Thank You Dan, I will be back for more delicious Brine Chicken soon!

Happy Hour bowls $10, great deal and Delicious We had a bowl with chicken a piece and shared a salad bowl

Daniel campos

Google
I was there today with my brother , he never tried this delicious chicken before and he love it We had chicken with brown rice and beet salad, everything was so good and delightful. Service was awesome, very friendly and professional. Santiago and Veronica took good care of us. We will definitely come back again soon.

Google
I always keep my reviews honest and this will be no different. I’m a student, eating out at a place like this is a big treat. So after a long day I order a 3 piece tender and fries and was appalled at what I received. Was the chicken and fries yummy? Yes I’d give them a strong 7/10 very crispy and good. However for $16 this was the most abysmal portion I have ever seen. As you can see in the photo, I received what look like 4 tiny wings. It’s a shame you could even call these tenders. That’s not to mention the side sauces were about the size of an extra large thimble, completely undunkable. It should be a crime to refer to chicken if this size as a tender.

Google
I decided to try Brine on a recommendation from a police officer, and I’ll admit, it’s pretty good! The chicken was juicy and seasoned just right, and the fries hit the perfect level of crispiness. While I wouldn’t say I’m absolutely craving to come back, it’s a solid option for when I’m in the mood for a hearty half-chicken meal. Their sauce is a nice complement, too. Definitely worth a visit when you’re looking for something satisfying and flavorful.

Yelp
I was so happy to learn that Brine has vegan options! I ordered the charred bowl and it was insanely good. The broccoli was probably the best broccoli I've ever had in my life. The staff was so friendly. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I love Brine! I keep forgetting about it because it's not on my usual evening restaurant circuit. They have the BEST chicken! I love spicy food so I get their hottest version and their spiciest fries...YUM! It's great for lunch. My only problem is that you have to enter your order on a touch screen and I always make a mistake. I'm probably just not computer savvy enough.‍
google avatar

Yelp
When my dinner plans were canceled I took advantage of the opportunity to eat a quiet meal alone and chose to procure said meal at Brine. One of my favorite dinners has always been chicken accompanied by tasty sides. On this front, Brine delivered. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy and the broccoli was delicious. Sadly, the sweet potato was a letdown. For a quick service, fuss-free meal with plenty of protein, fiber, and taste, Brine is hard to beat.

Yelp
Brine is my favorite fast food spot in NYC. So many options, juicy high quality chicken. I like the MSG sandwich and spiced fries with the green buttermilk sauce to dip them in. The inside of the restaurant is very clean for a fast food restaurant and the staff is friendly. Usually touch screen ordering kiosks kinda gross me out, but these are clean and it's an incredibly efficient process.
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this chicken spot because my partner use to order from here pre pandemic. It did not disappoint. I got the MSG Sandwich, highly recommend. It was juicy and saucy. My partner got Spicy Umami, not as much zest as the MSG, but good nonetheless. The employees were very nice. The dining area has about 40 seats varying from booths, hightop and long table.

Yelp
We had been walking around NYC all morning and decided it was time to stop for lunch. We could all agree on chicken and Brine fit the bill! The grilled chicken breast was juicy and flavorful. The fries were crispy. The charred broccoli had great flavor. This was a great spur of the moment pick! You put in your order on a kiosk, which is great because it gives you time to review the options and you can customize your order. The staff calls your number when your food is ready. There was plenty of indoor seating. They also had a soda fountain where you could get free refills which is a plus. It was very clean and comfortable inside the restaurant.

Yelp
Surprisingly good and healthy bowl. Got the charred bowl and it did not disappoint. I am looking forward to ordering it again! Really liked the sauce that came with it. The bowl overall felt like a well balanced diet and left me feeling healthy. Only wish is that it could have more broccoli. Everything was really tasty though!

Yelp
I ordered this on ClassPass, and it was prepared really quickly. I also ordered the brine tart (not pictured) and it was similar to a brown sugar pop tart, but way better. The pastry was really nice, and they were not stingy with the filling. My husband got mad because I accidentally ate the whole thing without sharing. Would I go out of my way for this tart? No. But it was delicious on an empty-ish stomach. The MSG burger was flavorful with a sizeable chicken breast in the center.

Yelp
Come here on an empty stomach!! My boyfriend and I came here to try some of their chicken tenders and another plate. I don't recall the name of what I had but it was a shredded chicken and coleslaw kind of sandwich. It was massive and less than a half was more than enough to eat. My boo ordered the blackened chicken and spiced french fries. They were so good too, but the blackened chicken was a letdown if you are someone who loves spicy! We first discovered this place when they were hosting the spiciest chicken sandwich competition - and we nailed it, but later the sandwich nailed us! It was so spicy but in a good way. We will never do that again, but we are so glad we got to experience it at Brine. The reason for my starting point is that once you are satiated or beyond full, you will not crave any food for the entire day. I'm dead serious. Their chicken is so fresh and filling. It's a one stop shop, which is great if you're on a budget or just want to stuff your face with some tasty protein. Insanely enough - I was still full the next morning (so was my boo). Felt incredible. And didn't feel the need to eat anything till about 4pm. Definitely plan on returning for some more chicken tenders in the near future! The bathroom is basic and large enough for H.C. persons. They have a code - it's for customers only. The kitchen is within view of the dining area. I would recommend they get some cushions for the seating. The hard wood hurt my back after a short while of sitting. They have two long bar height tables good for groups of 6+/-. I don't believe that any of the furnishings are movable. I'm pretty sure they're "glued" in place, but there is plenty of seating around the double bar height tables and some window seating as well. Happy eats!

Yelp
If you like big bold flavors, Brine is where it's at. Order on screens or at the counter. Char grilled chicken - so good. Sauces and sides equally delicious. They have chicken sandwiches and also chicken with sides. The sauces are the icing on the cake here too. The chimichurri and garlic chili are my 2 favorites. The chicken is juice and I'm a sucker for that deep charred flavor. One thing I've noticed when I sat there is the workers constantly cleaning, wiping tables ,walking around wiping and asking if everyone is ok. Interacting with customers in a non-intrusive way. I appreciate the attentiveness. The restaurant is always clean. I usually go around 1 to 2 pm, it's not crowded I always find a table to sit at and enjoy my meal. I can't speak of other times regarding crowds. I often order chicken sandwiches to take home and they travel well. The food here is really fresh and consistently good.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from here and it was ready in 5 minutes, so it's super quick. Fast casual vibe. I got the boneless chicken breast, charred broccoli, and coconut rice. I got the chili garlic sauce and the jalepeno sauce. It was good for quick takeout, but nothing to rave about. The chili garlic sauce was the star of the show. I will probably go back and try something different next time.

Yelp
i asked for a fork and they said they had no more but when my friends asked they gave them a fork. This ass place is worst then chipotle the portions are like nothing. The fries were bad with no favor and they didnt even give us sauce.

Yelp
Wow ! Happened to be walking by Brine and saw some reviews online. Had to try it and glad I did. Probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had . I went for the MSG sandwich combo with fries. The fries were good too. Old school crinkle cut and crispy. The chicken sandwich was two large chicken tenders smothered in sauce and scallions. I would probably just order the chicken tenders next time. Used the self order it menu and the food came out fairly quickly. A+++++

Yelp
I don't spend a lot of time in Manhattan these days, but when I have to head in for whatever reason, I find an abundance of excellent fast casual options. Brine may be the best of the breed. This is good food for a good price, served quickly. For lunch in NYC, you really can't ask for more than that. It should be noted that Brine's "Signature Thigh" is actually a leg. It's a big one, and it's juicy as hell. The skin isn't exactly crisp, but the fat is rendered and it's saucy and flavorful. I personally preferred the jalapeño sauce to the red buttermilk option, but because this chicken has been brined properly, it honestly didn't need either. The sides are also well-conceived, and well-executed too. I opted for the charred broccoli and grilled sweet potato, both delicious, especially with a little cheese dumped on top. There was actual spice and flavor involved in all the food served here, and I was grateful enough that I didn't stop to wonder why all kitchens can't make this happen. Although, now I'm wondering. In any case, Brine is a great spot to pick up a very tasty chicken lunch. If it matters to you, you should know you're going to order it via touch screen, where you can pick and choose from all the different options, and tip as well. This is now a world where we tip before we receive our meals. Why? I'm not going to litigate that here. I just like the chicken.

Yelp
Best chicken tenders I've ever had lol... spicy blackened tenders with buttermilk green, honey mustard and regular ranch.. they were so juicy and crispy. The fries were also crispy. This was delivered extremely quickly via DoorDash and the quality was so good. I'm ordering again today lmao.

Yelp
Average. The pulled chicken was good but the salad wasn't fresh a lot of the lettuce was turning brown

Yelp
I came here for lunch one day. I ordered a head of time and went to pick up my order. The restaurant was bright and spacious. It had two kiosks to order and a large font menu on the wall with the kiosks. I waited a few minutes before the clerk was alerted to my presence. They checked and my order wasn't ready. It took a few minutes before my order was ready. I ordered three pieces of the buttermilk tenders and crinkle cut french fries. I wasn't sure about the sauces so I waited until I got there to ask for a suggestion. The food came out after 10 minutes or so. I was surprised on how hefty and heavy the container was. I asked for some suggestions and I got honey mustard and a smoky chili sauce. When I got to my office, I was surprised on how big the tenders were! They were definitely one of the biggest I ever had. The tenders were crispy and juicy. The only thing I didn't like is that I ate a bit of gristle or cartilage in two of the tenders. The other tender I was saving for another meal. The fries were tasty but I wish they had a bit more of seasoning to it. I was surprised to find a small triangle of toast that was okay. I wasn't sure what it was there but I love toast so I ate it. I thought the chili sauce was okay. But I was surprised on how much I loved the honey mustard. It was so delicious! I wish the container was bigger because even though I got two, it wasn't enough.

Cameron B.

Yelp
Just wasn't a fan. We ordered ahead to go pick up, but they started cooking our order on arrival? The chicken strips were small comparative to the price. Well seasoned, just not the best chicken in the city.
google avatar

Cassidy H.

Yelp
Pretty great takeout signature thigh 1/4 and broccoli and fries sides. Will be my goto for well-rounded protein meals.
google avatar

Joanne H.

Yelp
why was this place SOOO FIRE??? i walked in for just a quick bite and i'm craving this so bad like every day the food: got the blackened chicken tenders and fries, the chicken is sooooo crazy juicy and comes PIPING hot (like smoking!!) - i would recommend regular tenders if you're not a fan of salty, but i really liked it!!! and the fries were soooooo crispy too the space: clean and small! the service: really kind! loved it
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
I thought I reviewed Brine on my prior visit circa 2019. As I recall I probably considered it too upscale and didn't like the kiosks, but I have more perspective. The price isn't bargain basement but isn't unreasonable for this part of the world, the chicken is impressive and a bigger surprise is the top-notch sides. The blackened-chili garlic sauce is a knockout. Unlike some multinational chicken giants that refuse to spend much of their $$$ on respectable sides, Brine has an impressive range catering to vibes such as "normal fast food but better" to "Meatpacking District-adjacent glamour." Hence fries, but also blackened-chili spice fries, roasted beets with goat cheese and a tomato/heart of palm salad (?!!). I enjoyed the charred cole slaw.

Jasmyn G.

Yelp
Let me tell yalllll..... if you like hot food this sandwich gave Nashville hot a run for its money! This sandwich was so spicy I felt like smoke was coming out my ears! The texture of the chicken was great and the bread and condiments were nice but that spice overruled everything else. I enjoyed my food and will go again but just maybe not as spicy. The chicken is on point!
google avatar

Anil P.

Yelp
Since I moved to Chelsea a few months ago this has become one of my go tos. The chicken is cooked just right, with big portions and lots of flavor in the sauces, and the sides are good too. And the staff are always really friendly and helpful. Great to have them in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Allen B.

Yelp
Went here on the recommendation about the chicken sando. Orders are placed human free, kiosk cashless action. The food was decent, flavorful and hit the spot. I've had way worse. I'll be back.

Kay D.

Yelp
Did we eat at the same restaurant? I ordered for delivery the chicken breast with fries and Caesar salad and the 53rd bowl. The chicken breast was hard, dry and cold. It was inedible. The claim is that this is brined for 24 hours but I suspect it was cooked for that long instead. Fries were stale, hard, cold and unseasoned. The salad is limp and unappetizing. The dressing is good, though, so I guess that's something? I haven't tried the bowl yet but whole the vegetables look decent, the chicken is very unappealing by sight - all dark meat and grizzly. TBD if I'll actually attempt to consume this for lunch tomorrow. Oh, and they completely forgot to include a sauce that I paid extra for.

Kayla P.

Yelp
The best things on the plate were the sauces. The buttermilk res had amazing flavor. The chicken (I had the boneless breast) was incredibly dry and cold. I know white meat typically dries out faster than dark meat but this was inedible - it bent the prongs of the plastic fork I was using. Really disappointing, especially since their chicken is supposed to be the star of the show. As for sides, I had the coconut rice and charred broccoli. Both were also cold and rice was on the salty side. I really wanted to like Brine and even had a few other items I saw on the menu that I would've gone back to try but unfortunately this will be my last visit. Maybe I caught them on a bad day/time (however it was 12:30pm on a Thursday, prime lunch time so one would think the food would be fresh).
google avatar

Werner P.

Yelp
Great casual lunch spot, or laid back place to get some quick service food with elevated quality. Got the three chicken tender meal with fries. The fries were delicious, hot, crunchy crinkle cuts. The tenders were ENORMOUS. I got three because I have a huge appetite, but I definitely could have been full on two. The food was fresh and made to order, and was really enjoyable. Noise level is low, easy to have a conversation. Good meet up spot.
google avatar

Chanel T.

Yelp
Ordered takeout via mealpal. Huge portions with good flavors. Wait was a little longer then expected but the service was good. Lots of seats to eat dueing a lunch rush.
google avatar

Kern C.

Yelp
Excellent chicken and I'd give it 3 stars just for that . Crispy skin , almost falls of bone , tender and juicy the whole 9 yards. All of that however is then complimented with some dried out coconut rice , a soggy slice of bread hidden beneath the chicken , and some of the worst sauces to accompany a chicken I've ever had . I threw out both sauces and scrambled mixing some of my own to salvage the meal. I don't like to have to work to fix a meal after purchasing . As such ,I can't warrant anything higher than 3 stars.
google avatar

Aida D.

Yelp
Amazing tenders!! Helpful easy going service and I love the clean space for a nice lunch out.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Brine is a fast service chicken restaurant. Unique to its food is that they brine the chicken which results in a delicious flavor. The restaurant does not have a fast food ambiance despite its quick service. The chicken thigh was enormous. I found the sides to be fine but not exceptional.
google avatar

Jonah R.

Yelp
Simplistic menu of chicken that tastes extremely delicious. I got a 3 piece chicken tender mean with fries; initially I had deemed it a little pricey, but once I was eating, I realized how much chicken they really include. I ended up saving half of it and ate it for another whole meal! While the chicken itself is amazing, the sauces are what really makes it shine. Pretty much every sauce on the menu brings a unique flavor, and really added to the whole meal. I'd definitely recommend everyone stop in here when they can.

Shea H.

Yelp
UNDERCOOKED CHICKEN!!!!! I got the tenders and at first they were really great but then I noticed they were pink inside! The taste was great but having it undercooked makes it an automatic 0.... They only get two stars because the fries were amazing, but you can't undercook those!

Todd R.

Yelp
Really good chicken and never too crowded They have well spiced tenders, bowls, salads, and some great sides
google avatar

Elianny S.

Yelp
I discovered this place through Mealpal since it's close to my workspace. The chicken here is consistently delicious, juicy and flavorful. I really like signature thigh, broccoli and sweet potato meal. The name of this place implies that they will be great with chicken but they are also really good with the sides and that is just as important. It's a small place but there's usually plenty of seating and they also have outdoor seating for warmer weather. The staff here is usually very friendly and I also like the upbeat music, it's a great spot to grab lunch away from the office.
google avatar

Lila S.

Yelp
Super good chicken sandwiches with lotsa flavor and huge chicken tenders inside! Probably the best chicken sandwich I've had in New York! The signature thigh is also super tender and flavorful and delicious. The beets and broccoli were on point too! The workers are also very friendly! Will DEFINITELY come back here!
google avatar

Ty H.

Yelp
Wow. Just when I thought how good can chicken tenders get, I try this place. This is by far the number 1 Chicken Pl. I've ever had in New York City. The spicy chicken was perfect. Loved how juicy it was. I love the spice level. Also, the spicy french fries were fabulous. Love the amount of sauces they gave as well. The jalapeño dipping sauce is fabulous.

Imani W.

Yelp
Let us use the bathroom and the cashier was super nice! The place is super clean and so was the bathroom!

Yelp
Late Friday afternoon, wanted to try something quick and different in the area. Walking in, you order/pay at the kiosks to the side while waiting for your name to be called afterwards. Decided on the Signature Thigh ($7ish) to go along with Marinated Tomato/Palm Hearts ($4ish) and a Fountain Soda ($2.50). My name is called out after 10 minutes - well packaged in a cardboard container (soda fountain is to the other side). The chicken is definitely well marinated, covered in sauce that seeps all the way through. Tomato/Palm hearts are refreshing, fine enough as a side to the chicken if you don't want something substantial. Only qualm is that you need several napkins to get through the chicken since there's no easy way to eat the thing. As mentioned, service here is efficient, and there is plenty of open seating inside. For a fast-casual spot, this is good for a satisfying lunch fix.

Yelp
SO SO SO SO GOOD. I ordered Brine last night for the first time last night via DeliverZero (amazing & easy way to get takeout/delivery in returnable reusable containers instead of single-use) and was beyond happy with the food. I'm pretty picky when it comes to when it comes to food quality and you can tell Brine doesn't mess around. Everything was amazing but I was most impressed with the tenders! They didn't seem too fried or breaded, allowing the chicken to really shine! We got the Gigi Salad, 53rd st bowl, spicy chicken salad, half chicken with coleslaw and broccoli, 2 tenders and blackened chicken fries. We also got a side of beets and charred broccoli. We had enough for 4 people + 2 or 3 leftover meals.
google avatar

Tiffanee A.

Yelp
The MSG sandwich was absolutely AMAZING. It was about 10 bucks. Fried chicken, super savory and a nice sweet sauce on top, I wish it came with cheese. We also ordered the chili Seasoned fries and the broccoli. Extremely over seasoned... I love seasoned fries with extra seasoning... but seasoned to the point I could barely taste the fries. The broccoli toppings were nice, broccoli wasn't bad, too charred for my taste. Definitely will come back for the sandwich and to try other things on the menu. Highly suggest! That MSG was super Yumm.

Yelp
Great quick takeout spot. well seasoned chicken and good selection of side dishes. Self service order, and quick pickup. Reasonably priced.
google avatar

Henry T.

Yelp
Your typical casual dining lunch spot. They offer seating here but most people I've seen had their orders to-go. I had their signature 1/4 thigh plate with brown rice. They claimed to "mastered the art of juicy chicken", but I thought my piece could've been just a bit juicier. Still edible though. The chicken was thoroughly seasoned and I could easily make out the herbs and spices used. I was also a fan of their brown rice. It is simmered with coconut milk, thyme, and onion. It was extremely aromatic as soon as I opened my take-out box. Speaking of their take-out box, I had a hard time trying to fish out my food from the box because of its high walls. Maybe a flatter box would've made the eating experience easier? Other than that, I have no complaints.

Kevin M.

Yelp
If you like chicken this is the place to go. There are so many places to get chicken, but they make it just right at Brine. It's juicy and delicious. Also, the sauces are superb. The honey mustard is my favorite. I asked if they sold it in bottles -- they sent me home with a big take-out container. I'm rarely in Manhattan, but I can't wait to get back and go to Brine again. The staff is super friendly and cool and hospitable. It all makes for a great casual dining experience.
google avatar

Nathaniel L.

Yelp
Sauces were fantastic, but the chicken and fries left much to be desired in terms of mouthfeel and texture. Would come back strictly because the sauces were that great. Order from the kiosk, the people standing at the counter won't help you until you do.
google avatar

Earl L.

Yelp
Underwhelming given the price and high ratings. Chicken was ok, not particularly juicy but not dry either. Sauce was good. Sides were ok.
google avatar

Spencer L.

Yelp
I ordered a fried chicken sandwich (the "MSG") version: Really tasty and crispy fried chicken with a nice savory and sweet sauce. The Caesar salad had kale and a garlicky dressing. Would definitely order from here again.

Yelp
The ratings are through the roof for Brine. 4.5 stars is a must try. I didn't realize it is a quick service type place. You can argue it is fast food style ordering but the food is way more fresh than fast food. You order at the screen when you walk in. I ordered the asian flavored chicken sandwich and it was the best thing I had. The chicken was the most moist fried chicken I have had on a sandwich. It puts all the other fast food chicken sandwiches to shame. Unfortunately, the original chicken tenders were nothing to shout home about. Pretty basic and didn't have the same moistness as the sandwich weird enough. It surprised me since you would think they would be able to nail chicken tenders. I also tried the chicken salad sandwich and it was solid but you don't come here for chicken salad. The sides didn't impress me too much. The spicy seasoned fries were not my thing. The spice mix was not balanced. It tasted weird. I had heard the sauces were good but I didn't particularly like any of them. They were on the spicier side but not for me. I do really like this place and I will be back. It is not the healthiest food but you don't come here for that. The fried chicken sandwich is the way to go.
