Continuing my quest for the best H-Town burger, I decided to try a local burger joint that's been on the map for ages. Here's the scoop. We were greeted by friendly and helpful folks behind the counter, which was very nice and appreciated. There is no indoor seating (or not much from what I could see), and although they have a large "chiller" on their covered porch and several fans blowing about the place, they were no match for the blistering Houston heat we've been having recently. But when the weather is milder, it could be a nice area to enjoy a burger.
As for the food: The fries, from what I understand, are a fairly new item on the menu, and they did not disappoint! They were amazing. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and the seasoning was spot on delicious. Taken from a fry snob, these fries were top in the list. I'd go back for them anytime. Their jalapeno potato salad was also very good. The fresh jalapeno gave it a nice little kick, and combined with the dill, made for a nice combination and was a winner in my book. The beer could have been just a little colder, but it was a refreshing respite from the heat outside, and they had a nice selection to choose from. Since only outdoor seating is offered, that burger has to be worth the trip and the sweat. That being said, I'm headed back to the A/C because the burger for me personally was not so great. Granted, I also consider myself a hard-to-please burger snob (which is why I'm still looking for that elusive best burger H-Town has to offer, but I digress...) The patty was way overcooked, so it was tough to bite into, and the grilled onions in my opinion were non-existent, apparently hidden under the cheese from what I was told. But if you like your burger well, well, done, as many do, it might be worth the trip, especially for those amazing fries.
