The Best Chicken Wings In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Since 1978, Byrne’s Tavern has been the go-to place for bar food and a must for wing aficionados in Port Richmond. The beloved tavern only serves one style of wings: classic buffalo. They’re meaty, tender, and the housemade sauce has a kick without being dramatic. Rumor has it that they sell thousands on Super Bowl Sunday alone, but it’s crowded by the neighborhood every day of the year." - candis mclean

Byrne's Tavern - Review - Port Richmond - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Since 1978, Byrne’s Tavern has been a go-to place for bar food in Port Richmond—and an area destination for wing aficionados. The beloved tavern only serves one style of wings: classic Buffalo. They’re meaty, tender, and the house made sauce has a great kick (but it’s not so overpowering that you’ll think you’re on the latest episode of Hot Ones). Byrne's Tavern, above all else, is the coziest and most welcoming bar/restaurant I know. Their delicious wings, crabs, sandwiches, and pizzas are all prepared with love, and their front of house is so unapologetically Philly—from the staff to the decor. I feel right at home! Byrne's makes the best wings in Philadelphia. They fall right off the bone, and they come drenched in the most perfectly balanced, tangy and spicy house-made buffalo sauce. It's the only sauce option they have, so you KNOW it's good. They have a sizable menu, but I haven't tried a lot of their food yet because every time I'm there, I can't help but just eat an ungodly amount of wings. If you're planning on visiting this place, do yourself a favor and try the wings!

Google
I swear , i am an avid pub goer and this place is freaking awesome! atmosphere is great happy people cool decor great to watch a sports game or just hangout. but let me tell you the prices phenomenal in this economy you can’t get anything anymore well not here. i’d eat here everyday if i could . mostly you have to try the wings. absolutely amazing. i love this place i am including a picture of the phenomenal wings we ate didn’t leave a single one because of how great they are.

Incredibly disappointed. Was in the city for the weekend and this place came recommended by some locals. They took me here and were incredibly embarrassed by the horrible food we received. The pizza was so undercooked bordering on raw. We threw that away at home. The wings came highly recommended. Some of the worse I’ve ever had. They literally gave them to us with no sauce on them 🤣. Tiny tiny super expensive no seasoning or flavor. If I wanted a make your own wing kit I would have asked. Certainly won’t be back and neither will my local friends. Had to literally go get a second dinner after this one was inedible.

Google
Great Phila neighborhood bar (Port Richmond). Perfect corner bar. Always good food. Bar for drinks and football-has bar seats and hightop 4 person tables in bar area. Separate room for sitdown eat in tables. Interesting character and locals. Friendly bar service and right on a refill!! Great place to watch the Eagles. Plenty of parking. Love that the menu says well behaved children welcome! While I was there one parent had to leave w kids cause they were carrying on and making loud noise! (Not sure if left on own or asked to leave). Yeah!!! Love it. Best wings around. My friends rave about the potato logs. Smallest bathroom I've ever had to squeeze into 😅.

Google
I was curious on why anyone would give Byrne's a bad review (especially their wings) so I took the time to look up most of the people..honestly, that left these "bad reviews" and now I understand. After carefull review of these people these words are what ran through my mind.. uptight, dweeb, plain, grudge, mother most likely couldn't cook(I mean these people are using the word "soggy" referencing the wings") so yea ,thinks Jim's steaks and making their own are better then any other Philly cheese steak type person. These are pretty accurate imo of course.

Olanda E Thomas (Philly_Female_Trucker)

Google
The wings fall off the bone and the potato logs come with sour cream and a cheese sauce and they are to die for.....I also tried the fried ravioli and it was good.....we went for my late birthday celebration and they gave me a cup which I was told later that he was the owner....I thought that was very nice

Google
Every review on here is gassing up the wings and I personally know people that have hyped them up as well, so I got an order of wings and mozzarella sticks. Be warned, the wings are soggy and not accidentally. Apparently, they're intentionally made soggy and this is part of the allure for some. Even if ordered with the sauce on the side (as I ordered them), they come soggy. They're not soggy because they were left in the container too long either because I tried them as soon as I got in the car. Crazily enough, the wing tips are even left on in their soggy state which is unappealing to say the least. In addition to the sogginess, there's a lack of seasoning/flavor and the hot sauce that's provided is fairly lackluster. Moreover, the wings themselves are not the highest of quality. Not poor quality, but not good enough to come near making up for their other faults. I ordered 25 of them and I've probably eaten 5 at this point and am calling it quits. Textural nightmare. I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend these wings as they were recommended to me. The mozzarella sticks weren't good but they were edible at least.

Yelp
The service was perfect. I never wanted to leave. A very special and unique place here in Port Richmond. I was so happy there. The wings are so unique and delicious. Lots of comments on the sauciness but I didn't find them to be overly saucy. But how do they get the meat to fall off the bone like that!!!!??? You just can't get wings like that anywhere else in Philly. They have crab but I just got the crab soup. Yum. No French fries but they do have potato logs and everyone was ordering them and knew what they were. $2 Miller Lites during Phillies games. Impeccable service. It was like 4 different people were all thinking with the same brain.

Yelp
OMG! We love this place. We always order Maryland crab soup, a large pepperoni pizza, 50 wings and potato logs. And when they do have crabs we order those too. Also they have Jersey corn. Everything that we have is very good and tasty. The Maryland crab soup has crab in it. The wings, well they fall off the bones good! The potato logs are the best, but be careful because the are very hot in temperature, which is the best. It is served with sour cream and cheese. The crabs they depends on what they have and what they have left. I have no idea how the cook them but they ate tasty. When they serve it to you , the crabs will be in a try and the tops of the crabs are gone and they have cleaned out the i sides. The seasoning they put on is a bit spicy. Also you can request malt vinegar. Lastly the Jersey corn! Omg omg! Cooked perfectly and the crunch and the butter soooo good. The service is excellent! The ambiance is friendly and bar like. As for the women's bathroom, well it is quite small. It is clean, but very very small. You are not able to on the toilet the regular way. No room for your legs. So you have been warned. We love this place!

Yelp
Stopped in last night for dinner with a friend. Their wings are my favorite, by far! We got 25 wings, crabby logs and pierogis. Everything was so good, quick and hot!! Always friendly service with familiar faces!
google avatar

Jen F.

Yelp
What an awesome corner taproom. I had the kielbasa with pierogies special, we also got their wings, cheesesteak egg rolls and a pork sandwich. The bar tender was very friendly. We also got the cucumber and tomato salad to go. Food was good, service was fast. I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
I'm sorry but this salad is a disgrace. A box of soggy brown lettuce, due to the "chicken" slopped on top, with a few croutons. Don't advertise that you have grilled chicken and then serve this rubbery gray fake meat that looks worse than wawa chicken. Were told they were out of hard boiled egg but still charged for it.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Best wings I've ever had. You can clean the meat off the bone in one slurp! They pressure cook them - sauce is great & beer is cold. Service is amazing!!
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
The wings are a MUST try. They are fall off the bone but still juicy and flavorful. The turkey sandwich was fresh as they make the turkey in house. The service was quick and efficient. If you are in the mood for some top notch bar food, give it a try.

Chantal G.

Yelp
Wings are good, not great. They are definitely tender and flavorful, but are lacking the crispiness that I like in Buffalo wings. I don't believe they are deep-fried; most likely made in a pressure cooker or boiled and then thrown in a hot oven for a couple minutes. All the reviews keep talking about how they are "fall off the bone". I hear this when people are heralding ribs as well. But as far as I'm concerned, falling off the bone is not the mark of a good wing or rib. I could boil either of them, and get them to be falling off the bone. Wings and ribs should have some bite and chew to them, and wings especially should be crispy on the outside. Still, they are good for what they are. Excellent kielbasa sandwiches, and the prices are pretty fair. Great dive atmosphere and good service as well.

Yelp
It has always been a mad scientist calculation. There are no burgers, no cheesesteaks and no fries! WTF!!! Who are these people??? When this place opened, I was still a person that lived across the river (not the Delaware). Working in the Independence Mall area ... I would stop in to Brownies Pub. The owner and a few patrons would meet at Byrne's for a Guinness. But I digress! It truly is a family experience ... a throwback to a time when Mom and Dad wanted to go have a few but the kids got in the way. Here you can have distance from the bar and stuff those rugrats with just enough to make them docile. In closing, the past three times that I had the wings ... I was ... underwhelmed. The wings to me were always tasty but the texture was like a jellyfish/muscles. Today! The wings had a little crisp and the sauce was actually tangy. (Sorry for telling the truth about past expériences) BTW The LOGS rule!!! Happy Anniversary!!!! PS: I wish that I could get a burger but I understand.

Yelp
The best wings in all of Philadelphia. Friendly staff & and all around warm & inviting spot

Lorana S.

Yelp
Best wings EVER!!!!! And the logs are perfection!! Been coming here for 40 years .. try others but always come back to the best!!!!

Robert P.

Yelp
Horrible service, The young girls that work there worry more about the phone in there hands then the customer and the owner is ok with that. I'm good ‍ very bad
google avatar

Bernadette H.

Yelp
Still the best wings around! They fall off the bone so easily! The service is great, I'll definitely be going back!

Yelp
If you are talking about a staple in Philadelphia eateries, you can't leave our Byrnes Tavern. This place has so much history, been around for 40 years, and just has one of those inviting/homey tavern feels. They've got all sorts of photos and knick knacks on the walls, the seating and bar have really maintained their old school character, and the staff is so friendly! They've got a pretty large menu, and you can go from simple bar food like burgers and wings to a nice night out eating seafood and pasta. While they are most famously known for their wings (which you have to try!), they also have great crab selections. From soup, to crabby logs (potato logs with old bay) to the claws themselves, they always are serving up the best. I personally am a fan of their buffalo chicken Cesar salad, and recently had their Byrnes Special chicken sandwich. **pro move here - get it with BOTH ranch and honey mustard** On top of all that, they've got a great beer selection and are usually running specials for Philadelphia sport team events. So if you wanted to submerge yourself with Philly fans, and great Philly food - this place is for you!

Maryann H.

Yelp
The food is perfect. The service is great. The ambiance is very friendly. The people are very nice and polite.
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
Service was amazing. The food came out within 5 minute intervals. Food was great. We came for the wings and they came in only a mild sauce but fell right off the bone. So good. They also loaded it with a side of celery! Food was hot and tasty.

Joe L.

Yelp
Best wings you'll ever eat great environment highly recommend will always love Byrne's
google avatar

Yelp
True Score: 3.75 Stars Old School Pub with amazing Irish coffee. It's probably one of the best local bars. Food is good and it fresh. I wouldn't do the crab cakes if your use to regular cakes, these appear to be fried. The wings were good. Service was ok. Prices were reasonable. Service was great and all the food is awesome. Lot of construction around, but worth the hassle. Just a great neighborhood tavern. Also a great break from the traffic on 95. Get the wings and the potato logs. Thanks
google avatar

Taimak R.

Yelp
The wings are really good and tender but the blue cheese so godly. I buy so many when it's time for wings. These wings are better than wing stop . They give me pub type fill when it comes to wings . I do wish they had multiple flavors but they only have one flavor and that is mild . Local gem close to my house that's worth the travel. the blue cheese so godly good that can go on pizza fries. I will try other things on the menu soon.

Yelp
We've been trying to support our local neighborhood businesses throughout the pandemic. Byrne's was a birthday request from one of my kids. They are only open for takeout. The whole menu is available. We had the chicken wings and potato logs. I asked for the wings plain with sauce on the side. No problem! A large container of hot sauce as well as blue cheese and celery were provided. The potato logs are potato wedges with a crispy coating. A cheese sauce and sour cream come with them. Both were delicious!! The whole process of takeout was smooth. I called my order in. At pick up, you pull up, call and your food is brought out and put in your car. I pay cash so I had it the exact amount including tip ready. The person who came out had a mask and gloves on. Lol I did get reprimanded for getting out of my car.
google avatar

Enric C.

Yelp
Chicken??? Yes please ,Wtf!!!!! Best wings in Philly. I don't mean those nasty gummy oversized wings most restaurants/bars serve. The food and drinks are awesome and consistent. Second time back and no regrets at all. If you're looking for good food, drinks and a chill atmosphere, check out Byrnes Tavern.

Gary H.

Yelp
Don't order the pizza. We ordered the large pizza and it was literally a small store bought frozen pizza. The wings were suppose to be the best in the city and I don't think there the best on the block. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Bryan D.

Yelp
BEST WING SPOT!! hands down! This is right in Port Richman and the wings fall off the bone! They come out hot and ready to eat, the wings come with ranch/blue cheese and celery. I come here with my family and we always leave full. Wings- sooo good! this is a must try Pizza- my favorite pizza, it comes out hot and the cheese is good! this reminds me of my childhood Potato Logs- comes with cheese and sour cream. We usually order 2 since it goes by fast. Be careful when you first bite into a log because it is hot lol but so good!
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Kind of a divey neighborhood, wife wanted crabs when we were coming back from NJ so this was on our route. I got the turkey wrap, kind of dry but I think it was more real turkey than the lunch meat a lot of places use. Nothing spectacular unfortunately.

Rosebud B.

Yelp
Haven't been there for awhile, but it never disappoints! Wings are great, potato logs, yum! If you even in Port Richmond area, stop by, you will always have a great meal.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Came here on the whim and I don't regret it. Good environment, and good quality drinks for a good price. Bartender was attentive and fast. Didn't try any of the food, just had a few beers and a double shot of Jameson. All done very well!
google avatar

Damien R.

Yelp
Menu said 24 wings for 26ish. We ended up getting about 20 soggy and flavorless wings in a bowl. Beer was 7.50. Overpriced and overhyped. No thanks. Union taps wings are a lot better. Bartender was incredibly nice but the crowd of 3 younger people at the bar were an embarrassment from their yelling to what they were talking about. Trash.

Matt M.

Yelp
My favorite place ever! You can't go wrong with anything from the menu but you MUST get the wings. I usually prefer a crispy wing but they hot oil pressure cook them here and only need 1 sauce to make these the best fall off the bone wings in town. Pair them with potato logs and a perfectly poured Guinness and it's a happy day. Frank Byrne is one of the nicest and friendly owners I have ever come across.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
There ain't no denying ! This place is the best ! Cold beer and great wings! Come on Eagles!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Byrnes is amazing! All the food is great! Try the club sandwich. It's not really on the menu but its awesome. Wings are great. They dont disappoint
google avatar

Kathy H.

Yelp
Great Tavern , Good draft beer , Good service. But unfortunately our food was not so good . The typical bar food was good, jalapeño poppers, chicken fingers and nachos. (But you can get those anywhere) Sorry , not impressed with the wings, they seemed old., and the Mussels in red sauce were bad! They Smelled bad, half were mushy and not edible. The red sauce seemed like canned tomatoes poured on top. Not sure who was running the kitchen on this Friday evening. Sorry! Note : Our server did comp us for the mussels.

Alex P.

Yelp
There wings tasted off and as a big dude who never had enough to eat my body knew not to finish the wings I had finished half of. They still had some feathers and nails on. I ended up going home vomiting for the rest of the day. DO NOT EAT THESE WINGS THEY GAVE ME FOOD POISONING
google avatar

Pamela S.

Yelp
Great local spot. I'm not sure what makes their wings so special, but they're one of the best I've had. I always have to order the wings and the potato logs. So good!

Vincent R.

Yelp
Chicken wings are great and the pizza is too. Depending upon the time you get there, seating is tight and crowded
google avatar

Bob H.

Yelp
Simply the best!! We arrived around 5pm this past Friday and business was booming as usual. We were sat immediately and service was great. We ordered 25 Wings, logs and mozzarella sticks. Man, these wings are beyond good. The only downfall is their not very crispy. The sauce is the boss and goes great with a cold pint. Been going to Byrnes since I was 8 years old, I will be back!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Always come here for their wings. Best iv ever had. Today I tried something different for the first time, the chicken sandwich and it was so good. Can't wait to try the other things. Also walking distance from my house so it's overall a great spot for me! (: great staff. Food comes out in great time !

M J.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best wings in Philadelphia. They are delightfully crispy yet fall off the bone. The Potato wedges are also a must have. I've gone here many times, sometimes the service is not friendly but the majority of the time the atmosphere is very welcoming.
google avatar

Fatty B.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bar/restaurants in the city! The waitresses and bartenders are down-to-earth, friendly and efficient. The wings, mussels in red, pepperoni bar pies and crab cake sandwiches are all way above average for bar food. The prices are awesome ($2.50 for a bottle of Coors Banquet - CHEAP!), the music is never obnoxious and it's an excellent place to sit and watch sports. The entire place has a good, solid, working-class vibe and trouble or inconsiderate behavior will not be tolerated. We will continue to patronize Byrne's as long as things stay the same.
google avatar

Angel M.

Yelp
I worked in Philly & my friends and I loved going here for the AWESOME wings and crabs ! I moved to Virginia for work and went to a crab feast where I had NO clue how to clean a crab . I learned fast though ! I still miss this place and the food , friends, and friendly atmosphere. Get the WINGS and experience heaven !
google avatar

Dennis F.

Yelp
Great little place to grab a bite. Authentic Philadelphia and authentic to the neighborhood it's in. Great beer, wings, crab soup, and kielbasa sandwich!
google avatar

Lizabeth A.

Yelp
Bryne's Tavern has the best wings and logs oh and I cant forget about the pizza!! Def a go to spot!! Its a small place but the food is amazing. The wings come off the bone and are so tasty!! I recommend anyone that loves wings to come here you wont regret it!!
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
This place was absolutely disgusting. My boyfriend and I started off with ordering whiskey for him and wine for myself. I had to send the first glass of wine back because it was flat and the waitress had the worst attitude. Additionally, the second glass that she brought was also flat. We ordered the wings, broccoli bites, and the cheesesteak eggrolls. The wings were gross, slimy, flavorless, the broccoli bites were obviously from a frozen bag, but the cheesesteak rolls were okay. Save your time and money and go somewhere that has decent food and drinks.

Yelp
I stop in a couple times a year when I'm in for business. (I usually hit also nearby Czerw's Kielbasy) I always get the wings. "Best In City"? No idea. But they are really good and unique. They are cooked in a pressure-fryer which not only speeds up the order, but ensures the meat is plump & juicy ("falls off the bone") and that no hard, overcooked wings are in the batch. They make one sauce, and it's good. If you need it hotter they invite you to doctor it to your taste. Good selection of beer & booze, decent prices. Best part is the feel of the place. Friendly, clean, down to Earth neighborhood bar. I was just in early on a weekday, around 11, not busy yet, and got talking to the bartender, Joe. Friendly guy, excellent conversation. Typical of my experience here, except when it is super busy. The place is small, tables tight, and at some times you are really packed in with strangers sharing tables. But if they are the right sort, that can be a good thing. Had my first local Yard IPA, excellent.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Came here for lunch recently and told the go to food are the wings and potato logs. Wings - very good, but with a sauce that I seem to find at places like Wings-to-Go. The dozen I ordered were a good size and filling. Potato logs - quartered and fried, they are the Godzilla of french fries. Crispy outside, soft inside. I don't think you'll be able to finish them all! Byrne's is a place mostly with its regulars, and service was very friendly. They seemed they were a bit frazzled with the lunch rush. I would not search out Byrne's specifically for another meal, but if I was in the area I'd give them another try. They have some other options which looked quite good as they passed out table to other customers.
google avatar

Thuy H.

Yelp
We only ordered take-out, so this is mainly for the food. Wings - small, yet sooooo delicious! They even come with the wing tips (which my husband loves). Flavoring was perfect. It had a hint of honey or sweetness to it which is why made it so good. Meat was very tender and falls off the bone. Mmmm!! Red fish sandwich - it was pretty good, but I felt the fish could have been seasoned a lil bit more. Maybe a tad of salt and pepper would have done the trick. But, it was a very nice size fish, not too greasy, and not much breading on the fish (which is perfect...I hate eating fried fish and all I'm eating is the breading). You can pick potato salad, cole slaw, or some greens with this platter. I went with the potato salad. It was good, but the potatos were a lil hard. Crabby Logs - OMG OMG OMG!!!! SOOOOOOOO WONDERFUL! When I looked at them, I was like "dude, theses are just potato wedges" but when I bit into them, it was no where near being close to any potato wedge I have ever eaten before. It was heaven. Hahaha Mussels in white sauce - sauce was quite yummy. I didn't eat much of the mussels (not really my thing) but I did use the sauce to dip some bread into it. It was seasoned perfectly. Mozz Sticks- Nothing special about them. Same as basically any place that makes mozz sticks. BUT, the marinara sauce that came with it was really good! Not sure if it's homemade, but I loved it. Will def be back again!

Yelp
Brynes has good bar food. Their wings are awesome. The place is super cramped and mostly outdated but it works. The service is quick and friendly. The only problem I do have, is that their business hours state they are open till 2am every night and I've never seen them open past midnight. I don't understand why they have their hours listed incorrectly. I get that they're more of a restaurant than a bar but please make the proper corrections so people don't show up and expect to grab a drink, only to find out they closed 4 hours early.
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Made the trip to Byrne's today to try the wings. I was coming on my bike, it was 100 degrees out. It was worth it. For a city of this size, I don't really think Philly has that great of wings. Byrne's is now on the short list of places I'll go for wings. Five or six beers on tap and a decent selection in the cooler.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
A staple of Port Richmond for decades, excellent wings. Get the logs and pizza to go with, they all compliment one another. The owners are nice people as well. Cheers
google avatar

K R.

Yelp
The waiters are friendly but the food is average. We ordered the wings, potato logs w/ cheese, and a hotdog. The wings fell off the bone but were extremely dry. The potato logs were greasy and bland. Hot dog was as expected. I wouldn't come back.
