The Brooklyn Hit List: The Best New Restaurants In Brooklyn - New York - The Infatuation

"This cozy Alpine spot in Brooklyn Heights feels like you've stumbled off the ski slopes right into someone's wood cabin, and good news—they've got an extra slab of schnitzel with your name on it. That craggy, golden piece of veal might be movie-star photogenic, and it is tasty, but don't overlook the rich, earthy spaghetti alla chitarra with duck liver. Like everything here, it's surprisingly light—as delicious in New York spring as it would be in Swiss winter. Whatever you order, take advantage of Café Brume’s half-pours so you can sample widely from their list of delicious high-elevation wines. (We especially like the medium-bodied, citrusy Grüner.)" - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, sonal shah

Best New Restaurants in Brooklyn, July 2025: According to Eater Editors | Eater NY

"As you might have heard, once-sleepy Brooklyn Heights has seen a fleet of new restaurants in recent years. The latest is the cozy Cafe Brume, with a taste of Alpine cooking that moves from wienerschnitzel with lingonberries to agnolotti with tomatoes and speck. A bread basket (served with a creamy cheese called liptauer) comes courtesy of the hot area bakery Laurel." - Emma Orlow

Ok to caveat this review, I went during opening week so understandably they may need some time to get things in order and find their rhythm. Having said that.. still disappointing experience. It’s a pretty small menu which is fine, but all the more surprising that 3 items were not available (I was eating at 530p so it’s not that they ran out for the day). They somehow ran out for the week and the server did not mention it up front. After taking our order she just left the menus there which was also very rare. Again, just opened I know, but I’m gonna assume it wasn’t her first day being a server. Food wise, I liked the trout. Didn’t try the schnitzel. Wine by the glass selection was pretty good. The place specializes in doing half pours so you can try more wines which is a great idea. verdict: it will almost certainly be a smoother operation in a couple months but the food wasn’t good enough to warrant a trip back.

Excellent food! Perfectly balanced flavors and textures. The poached egg with hen of the woods was very tasty. The ambience was also lovely with dark wooden beams and decorative painting accents.

Had a really great experience! Was so excited for this restaurant to open and it was worth the wait. The food was delicious, LOVE the Schnitzel its a must! The wine list is also incredibly well done and the ambiance is so cozy and inviting. Can’t believe this is just their first week. Can’t wait to go back!!

It shattered, yes, the crust on the schnitzel was perfection! They serve it very traditionally with lemon, capers, anchovies, potatoes and lingonberries = 😋 It's nice to see a good restaurant come to Montague Street because they're kind of like hen's teeth. Cafe Brume kind of takes you on a European vacation as if dropped into a neighborhood restaurant in the Alps. The room is very cozy with wooden walls and Alpine-ish decor. The service was excellent. I really enjoyed the endive dish and the iberico pork shoulder. Although there was a bit of chew to it, which we were warned about. But very delicious. Not sure there was actual gem lettuce in my gem salad the night we went, but it was very tasty and I appreciate every bit of chervil that was on it. I didn't love the crab tart. I'm not a fan of phyllo and it seemed a bit unfinished without a binder. We were rushing to a show but we will definitely be back and have dessert next time! It's going to be hard to get into this restaurant going forward. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood. More please

Traveled down to Brooklyn Heights to check out this super cute new place on Montague Street! It’s influenced by the high altitude of the Swiss Alps and the food reflects the area and the wine selection is excellently curated. Had a fantastic meal of Beef Tartare, Weiner Schnitzel with curried potatoes, sage, and lingonberry jam, and a beautiful Chocolate Mousse with blackberries, olive oil, and Maldon salt. Also had some great wines by the half pour suggested by one of the owners. They were impressed I came down to Brooklyn for dinner! 😂 Highly Recommended!!!!

My girlfriend and I live in the neighborhood and decided to check it out. The food was delicious, the service was superb. We got great recommendations for wine to pair with our respective meals. It is a cozy place with candlelight and fabulous music.

Google
I love it. The owners nailed the Swiss chalet high mountain vibe. My husband (who's Swiss) had the Schnitzel and said it's the best in NYC, comparable to restaurants in Vienna. I had the trout which was so, so good. The chocolate mousse was unusual, tasty and perfect. And they serve Czech beer (the best). It's a great addition to the neighborhood and I highly recommend it.

Google
We visited this cozy spot two weeks after it opened and had a great experience! We started with the crab tart—delicious—then split the steak and gnocchi, both of which were super tasty. What really stood out was the service. The owner, Brendan, is incredibly knowledgeable about wine, and even though I don’t drink, I still felt included. I had a Phony Negroni, and he still had fun facts to share! The Alpine style and decor made it all the more special. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu.

Yelp
Left me wanting more. Service and ambiance were top tier. Zero complaints. However, when it came to the food, it left more to be desired. The building blocks are there, the style and seasonings are close. However this just feels like a place that doesn't 100% know what they want to be yet. I'll be back to see if the maturation process yields any new blossomings of food goodness.

Yelp
This après-ski themed bistro sounded really fun to me in concept, but Brooklyn Heights has a tendency of encompassing everything within its stodgy malaise. I found some of the aesthetic photos featured in various profiles misleading. Everything was decent without being extraordinary. We shared a plate of dips with bread from Laurel Bakery and a somewhat uninspired fried broccoli dish to start. The gnocchi with mushrooms was not bad.

Yelp
Steak tasted like refrigerator. Portions extremely small. Service was just ok. Great atmosphere though.

Yelp
As a longtime resident of Brooklyn Heights, I was thrilled to see a new restaurant on Montague - and even more excited when I heard that the restaurant was the passion project of a husband and wife duo who are raising their kids in the neighborhood. We were a bit unsure what to expect from an "Alpine-themed" restaurant but were pleasantly surprised by the selection of cocktails and food. We ordered family style include steak, schnitzel, salads, gnocchi, and artisan bread. All were amazing and the staff was so accommodating - even sitting us outside, giving excellent wine recommendations, and bearing in mind our group's allergies. Will definitely recommend and go back for a fun, unique experience that is a bit of a treat!

Yelp
I really, really love this new restaurant. It's a breath of fresh air, because there is nothing else quite like it in the neighborhood. Makes me miss Manhattan a little less! You can tell they put a lot of love and care into the food, which is absolutely delicious, and the drinks impressed me too. I will be trying to eat here as much as possible before everyone else figures out how good it is and they run out of reservations.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants food was amazing unique and great cozy yet upscale dinning.
