"While the debate over whether to use melted cheese or cheese sauce on nachos rages on, Calexico proves that there’s no reason to choose. The California-style Mexican restaurant submerges its chips in both dairy products and completes them with guacamole, roasted corn, black beans, pico de gallo, jalapeños, and sour cream. There are additional locations in Brooklyn, plus a food truck in Soho." - Paul Schrodt

"Calexico is a California-style Mexican place where you can get jalapeño poppers and/or a burrito in a bowl with extra “crack sauce.” As you probably guessed, it isn’t the absolute best Mexican food in the city - but it’s good for a quick, casual meal when you don't actually feel like using your own kitchen. It’s also perfect for an inexpensive night out with a friend or two. There are several locations in the city, and this one on the Upper East Side has a big bar and plenty of tables." - Bryan Kim

Great place! I really enjoyed having dinner with my friends there. The interiors were cute, cozy and very comforting. It wasn't loud, so we could speak with each other. The food was good too, with the exception of sometimes very gooey pieces of beef. Staff was listening and helping us with everything all the way. I'd definitely come back again.

I got the barbacoa quesadilla which was really delicious, the dipping sauce was nice. The pollo asada was nice too. It’s very loud inside the restaurant so I’d suggest their very nice outdoors seating. Neither of us like the mango and passion fruit margs but it’s cool

I wish I took a picture of the food that I ordered from here. The food is incredible, the ambiance and the staff. Everything and everyone is incredibly sweet. The manager of the restaurant Daniel is a fantastic manager. I love the way he runs the place. He is so caring and professional towards his staff, customers. This is the first time of me trying this place out! I highly recommend this restaurant. To the owner of the restaurant if you are reading this. Appreciate Daniel because your restaurant is running beautifully because of him.

Warm burrito bowl with melted cheese on top is so good. Just ask for an option to make a burrito (bowl) "Wet".

Google
Great spot for Mexican/Tex-Mex, quite reasonable prices, and really good with the expected margaritas and similar mixed drinks. In addition to all the standard fare - tacos, burritos, nachos - I especially like the esquites (street corn, off the cob) and the Brussels sprouts. The only knock I have is cleanliness. Our last trip we were seated at the window in a half full restaurant (the table was fully set), but the table was sticky, the chairs had crumbs, and old, crusty guacamole adorned the edge in one side. Aside from that though, the servers are awesome, the drinks strong, and the atmosphere convivial.

Google
Very popular and rowdy restaurant on a Friday night, we were lucky to have gotten seats. Food took a while to come out probably because they were busy - we liked the quesadilla (with beef) and the special fajita burrito (with chicken) was also ok. The Cali burrito was not that good though (maybe not enough fries). Steak fajitas were also average, the steak was pretty flavorless

Google
Everything was good / service was great Margaritas 2for1 I ordered delicious chicken enchiladas but I received my food cold which I didn’t like. Hopefully next time It can be a better experience.

Everything about Calexico is four stars! I love Mexican food, but this was not super exciting but just fine. The best part is that the food smells great, and the staff are friendly.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. The tacos, both the black bean and the carne asada were terrific. I would definitely come back again. We were a little less pleased with the nachos: not enough cheese and beans but that could have been a one time thing. The tacos though, were awesome.

Yelp
Delish! And memorable, especially their special sauce! Love it with their hearty quesadillas. Great, friendly and helpful service! Warm, and inclusive atmosphere, always a good time!

Yelp
Great setup! This place is in my neighbor so I tried it with my roommates. Great place to take a group of people, not too expensive, and the service is good. I had a carnitas rice bowl, which was very filling and packed with so many ingredients. Will be coming back since it's a great dinner vibe especially if you get a window seat.

Yelp
I have no complaints about the service as the service was really quick and was very pleasant. The vibe reminds me of your typical Mexican restaurant. The burrito itself was lacking a ton of flavor. The barbacoa itself has no seasoning whatsoever. I honestly would have left a 3 star but the extra $$$ for making it wet was cheese and salsa verde and the salsa verde was very sour like it had gone bad of some sort.

Miriam I.

Yelp
Came for an impromptu dinner on a Monday and the vibes were great. We were seated quickly and the service was fast and very good. We started with the chips and salsa and chips and guac. Kind of annoying that chips and salsa don't just come but nevertheless both salsas were very good. The guacamole was also great and both portions were substantial. For our mains we got the chicken burrito bowl and the barbacoa quesadilla. The burrito bowl was lacking in flavor. The barbacoa quesadilla was delicious and very flavorful especially because of the carmelized onions. If I come back, I'm getting the quesadilla.

Kaitlin W.

Yelp
The chips and guacamole was soooo good! The chips were crispy and we also ordered salsa that came both green and red. I'm new to New York so I'm not sure if it's common to have to pay for chips and salsa at Mexican restaurants but I'm used to that being free for the table. I got the cheese quesadilla and it was good, it came with a side of their sauce that was delicious. My dad got tacos and a side of rice and black beans that he enjoyed. They have a happy hour at 4pm that I believe ends at 7pm but I am not positive, and they had $10 margaritas.

Steven T.

Yelp
Calexico is great. We had 3 dishes and all were outstanding. I had the barbacoa burrito. Fantastic taste and a big portion. And for the upper east side the prices were great too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Fast service, wasn't really busy though. Affordable lunch special, bowls and burritos. Love the decor. I loved my fried chicken bowl, it hit every flavor and got me super full , my friends like their burrito. loved guacamole n chips, lots of lime which i love. strawberry cucumber lemonade taste good at first but after taste is yucky, like sierra mist.

Yelp
The place was bustling on a week night but we were able to be seated quickly without much wait. The inside was nicely decorated. We ordered mezcal-negroni cocktails to start. I normally drink the mezcal and negroni separately so this is a first for me. The drink was strong but may diminish the smoky experience of the mezcal. The tacos are 5-6 each. Since we were hungry, my friend and I got one order of chicken enchiladas, one order of beef enchiladas. The dish comes with tortillas, rice and beans, guac in generous quantities. We ate very well and were greatly satisfied.

Bijal R.

Yelp
Been to Calexico multiple times and it's either really good or just decent. The tacos were amazing the first time I went with a variation of hot sauces available. Great for happy hour drinks as well. Service is great with attentive staff. Spacious as well, relatively easy to get a table any time or any day. The most recent time I visited, I ordered the chicken enchiladas. Although they looked beautiful, the ingredients didn't taste too fresh which was slight disappointing.

Meline K.

Yelp
Low quality food. There is no flavor and questionable protein. The service is terrible. The ambiance is nice. Over all I would spend my money somewhere else. Oh yeah and they charge $4 for stale chips that taste like nothing.

Alice D.

Yelp
I love the bowls here, super filling and has a great price! The shrimp bowl and fried chicken bowl are the best.

Ada Y.

Yelp
Calexico provided an enjoyable hangout spot with my friend. It was nice to explore more Upper Manhattan spots. The taco I chose was delicious, and the strawberry drink stood out. The service was excellent, allowing us to stay seated for as long as needed. It was very much appreciated. Overall, I would consider returning in the future.

Yelp
Happy hour at Calexico is one of my favorites in the UES. They offer 2 for 1 margaritas but instead of automatically serving you a second margarita you get a token to use on your next order or to bring back and use another time. It's great for an afternoon when you want to grab a drink but don't necessarily want two but still want to get a good happy hour deal. I'm not usually a flavored margarita lover but I will say the passionfruit margarita was fantastic. My friends and I also tried the mango, classic, and strawberry margaritas and all agreed passionfruit was our favorite. The flavored margaritas do cost $1 extra durring happy hour and sometimes servers forget to mention that so keep that in mind if you're ordering something other than the classic. Insider tip - if you're wanting an appetizer you should order the chips and salsa with a side of guac. The price comes out to be the same as just one large order of guac but you get chips and salsa too!

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
Ordered: Steak burrito with guacamole One of the best burritos I've had on UES. I ordered delivery which was very timely. Food was hot and burrito was extremely well portioned. All ingredients were fresh but only thing I would add is a little hot sauce which I wish it came with. Other than that it was a solid meal!

Yelp
I happened upon Calexico during a walk and wanted to try it out! At first, I thought the prices were a tad steep, but I'm really glad I tried it out because I discovered an incredible lunch special along the way. Service: Amazing!! The servers are kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. No notes, as they say in the theater... hahaha but in all seriousness, the service was lovely from start to finish! Ambience: Also lovely! The inside has a very funky unique vibe, but I opted to sit outside because the weather was so great. I love the teals and tans in the color scheme. Food: My amazing server (arg I wish I got her name!!) was the best. They have 2 lunch specials, the first being any two tacos you want plus rice, beans, guacamole, and chips; the second being a sort of beer + burrito combo. It's not on the menu, but she offered up the information as soon as I sat! I got the taco lunch combo for $14 which I thought was a great value for what I got. The tacos were top tier (I tried the Barbacoa and the Fried Chicken tacos). The fried chicken taco made me say "wow" out loud. Such a great combo of flavors. The barbacoa was juicy and flavorful as well -- delish! Also, their chipotle buttermilk ranch is one of the best sauces I've ever had in my life. I would drink it... if that was socially acceptable haha! Ask for extra (it comes on the fried chicken taco, but I'd recommend asking for more). Overall: I had an amazing experience from start to finish. Great food, great area, great place, great service--all of it! I'd highly recommend. Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)

Yelp
Came by after work with a group of friends for happy hour. Margaritas and draft beers are BOGO, great deal for NYC! They have a system where you order a drink and they give you a token so your second drink is free, and you can redeem it after happy hour ends. I tried the new barbacoa burrito which came with barbacoa, rice, refried beans and caramelized onions, pretty average. My friends had the nachos, elote and fajitas and enjoyed them. Service was great. Overall a nice place to stop by for some drinks and a quick meal

Yelp
Came to eat a late lunch at Calexico and meet up with some friends on the upper east side. The restaurant was spacious and bright, with lots of decor and music. It wasn't crowded given the late afternoon hour. We were seated under the speakers in the corner but were told we could change seats if we couldn't hear each other. A pack of crayons, coloring sheet (with kids menu), and high chair were provided for our toddler. After perusing the menu, we decided on the chips and guacamole appetizer as well as the chipotle pork rolled quesadilla and the barbacoa wet burrito. Since we had out toddler with us, I made sure to specifically ask the server if anything we were ordering was spicy, and he said no to all. Unfortunately, our barbacoa burrito was forgotten. When it did eventually arrive (after we checked in with our server), it was a plain burrito (though we had ordered it "wet" - with salsa, melted cheese, and sour cream on top). When we informed them of this, we ended up getting the same plain burrito back with two small cups of salsa on the side. We got charged an extra $4 PER salsa and did not get the the cheese or sour cream. Also, both the quesadilla and the burrito ended up being too spicy for our toddler to handle. On the positive side, the food was tasty, flavorful, and very filling. Would just hope for more accurate and attentive service in the future!

Yelp
Celebrated a friend's birthday with excellent fish tacos. She had the chicken ones both were delicious. Margaritas were fresh and not to sweet. Will definitely return soon!

Smita G.

Yelp
Cute, laid back, and pretty solid food for the price. I say this based on the food we had, anyway. I noticed there were mixed reviews of the tacos but did not try them. I would give them five stars if their drinks had been a bit stronger. This is really the only thing holding me back. I still fully intend on going back for the food though, and would be happy to get drinks here during happy hour when they're cheaper! Came here on a Thursday night about an hour before close. They were nearly full, and it felt a bit short staffed. Our waiter was sweet, but I wish he had come by more often. We got the crispy brussels sprouts with the peanut salsa on the side, the smoked queso, several mango margaritas, and a wet carne asada burrito to share. The crispy brussels sprouts were very good. We were so happy to have a bit of green with this meal, and the crisp was well done. Personally neither of us really liked the peanut sauce though. It is *very* peanut-y, and not balanced if you ask me. Me and my partner took a couple tastes of it, made a face at each other, and agreed we were glad we got it on the side. To be fair I'm picky about peanut sauces, but my partner is not, and was still not into it. The mango margaritas were also good, but I wish they had been a touch stronger. I will say the drink was well balanced, though. For how sweet the mango juice is, the strength of the drink made sense. If they were to make their drinks stronger, they'd also need to make their mango mix sweeter or more complex. The smoked queso was delicious. I loved the flavor and texture the roasted corn added. Once you break the baked skin of the queso, don't take too long to finish it! It's served in a dish that seems to maintain its warmth, but it's still the kind of queso that will get thick and chunky if allowed to cool too much. I've gotten a burrito delivered from Calexico once before and it felt like the burrito I got during this dine-in experience was larger. Not sure if that's my imagination, or anything to do with making it wet, but I was happy about it. My partner and I were glad we split this. We still ended up having a bit left over to take home. If you're craving both enchiladas and a burrito, making one of their burritos wet seems like the perfect option. I really enjoyed the flavor the extra sauces added. The amount of steak in the burrito was perfect, and well done. If you ask me, it's a hefty burrito. Definitely planning to come back and try their other burritos!

Yelp
If you order Calexico from Uber Eats, chances are they're not making your food - it's from a ghost kitchen. As soon as we got our recent order we knew something was off. 7 tacos, all deeply chilled like they'd been stored in a fridge. Like, cold shredded cheese that had never been melted. No restaurant would ever put that kind of food in front of a customer. There's a ghost kitchen that just opened up on 86th and Lex. And the old Uber CEO's new business venture is ghost kitchens. For those unfamiliar, ghost kitchens are spaces that make food for multiple restaurants, for delivery. They get the ingredients and the recipes and whoever they hire makes the food. Which means while you might love a particular restaurant, the people who make your delivery a) were not hired by them and b) are making food from 10 other restaurants at the same time. I'm sure they are sworn by some NDA not to admit it, but there is no way Calexico made that meal. Because the tacos had clearly been premade from cold ingredients and then refrigerated. Exactly like you'd expect from an industrial ghost kitchen.

Yelp
I'm finding it hard to believe that I have never reviewed this place before as I used to live in the neighborhood and have been here a gazillion times. Since moving out of the area, my parents have moved in the area and I was recently in town visiting them. GF met up with me and I decided to bring her here as I have fond memories of this place. I would like to start off by saying that the service provided was excellent. Our server was almost up our ass too much but not quite too much and therefore achieved the desirable balance. When he was occupied, the bartender brought over our drinks to expedite things which was appreciated. They have an excellent Mexican drink menu which includes numerous margaritas. I was going to go down that route UNTIL my line of vision glazed over something I have never seen before in my Mexican-restaurant-going-life. I am a michelada STAN and I'm usually excited to see even one michelada on the menu but this place offers TWO varieties. I ordered the numero uno. GF ordered jalapeno mint or something similar margarita and I took a sip, it was delicious. Those two flavors are an unusual combo but they actually go very well together. Speaking of stans, I am also a stan for nachos so that was a must. Diet starts after the holidays, amirite? I LOVE that they come vegetarian by default but I requested the pico de gallo and sour cream on the side and received less judgment regarding my topping omissions than usual. The chips were very crispy and there is no suspicion that they were purchased at the grocery store. I liked the variety of toppings cheese, jalapenos, beans, corn, guac) but the quantity could have been more generous. Many chips were naked or minimally topped which, in nacholand, is a no no. I ordered a black bean taco and a ground beet taco. The black bean taco included black beans, guac, cotija cheese, and a special sauce and this was absolute fire. You will get the special sauce all over your face until you are more civilized than I but it is totally worth it I could live off of that shit. The ground beet taco is their only vegan taco although the black bean taco can be vegan upon request according to their menu. Served in a hard taco, it includes a ground tempeh, beet mixture which did not taste overwhelmingly beety, with pico, lettuce, and cashew crema. This was also a very tasty taco. GF ordered the vegetable enchiladas which include a bunch of veggies like onions, squash, corn, and cheese, slathered in a sauce and sour cream and served with rice and beans. I tried the rice and beans and they were both delicious. They have many other vegetarian and a few vegan options and this place is definitely worth a visit on the UES.

Yelp
After visiting the MET, my friend and I got a late lunch at the nearby (~15 min walk) Calexico in the upper eats side. There were plenty of open seats and it was a nice day, so we chose to sit outside. The menu was a good size, not too overwhelming and not too limited. We ordered the mint lemonade and strawberry and cucumber lemonade to start and the shrimp burrito and vegetable enchiladas for food. The lemonade was deliciously refreshing and a good size for the price we paid. The mint lemonade was satisfyingly minty and the strawberry cucumber lemonade was a deep red with a natural strawberry flavor and a refreshing cucumber aftertaste. The shrimp burrito was unfortunately unflatteringly presented in an aluminum foil wrap, but that did make it convenient for eating. However, I enjoyed my vegetable enchiladas, which was brightly presented on the plate, but I wish there were more vegetables in the enchiladas. Overall, Calexico was a pretty good Mexican restaurant!

Raphael P.

Yelp
This place is a sneaky excellent spot but once you see how crowded and the traffic that goes here, you realize it's not sneaky at all, it's just good. The tacos were awesome but I especially loved the margarita pitcher. Perfect ratio, great value. Had a great time here and would go back.

Joel S.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day and there was a table available outdoors, so we decided to give Calexico a try. The two best things were the skinny Margaritas and the el Yucateco hot sauce that they serve. The waitstaff and kitchen seemed overwhelmed and service moved at a glacial pace. I had steak fajitas that were average at best. My wife ordered chicken fajitas. In a first. they turned out to be dark meat. She ordered shrimp fajitas instead. The hostess promised that they would come out ASAP. They were served long after I was done with my entree and weren't cooked through. If it's a nice day, sit outside and have a drink and some guacamole. For anything more complicated, there's Canyon Road and Toloache in the neighborhood.

Amy K.

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch on Cinco de Mayo. I was 10 minutes late and she'd already started her frozen margarita, lol. They had some Cinco specials and we both chose the "lunchbox." For $14., you got any 2 tacos, plus rice and beans, and a little individual guacamole w a few tortilla chips. The tacos are $6 each, give or take, depending on what's in each one. To add on the rice and beans is $5, so throw in a bit of Guac and chips and that was a good deal. She had the barbacoa and the beet tacos; I had the shrimp and the Baja fish tacos. All were very good and the tacos were filled. Several choices of hot sauce are in a box on the table; I tried a couple of them! The only problem was how long we waited for the meal - at least 20 minutes, probably much longer. Ordered around 1:30 but we weren't eating until well after 2. But they were packed inside and nearly full outside, so that would explain it.

Yelp
Short review: Abysmal esquites (worst in the city I've tried.) Terrible mushroom quesadilla. Pretty good brussels sprouts. Fish bowl is good. Really don't get the reviews at all. The fact that the Yelp description doesn't even say Mexican says all you need to know about the flavors here though perhaps this is because there is no Cali-Mex option. Anyway I was here with two others a couple months ago. I had one of their Pina/Piña Calexico to drink which consisted of rum and pineapple infused tequila. This had a tacky tropical tiki glass complete with the tiny umbrella as well as a maraschino cherry and a piece of pineapple and it was filled with a whole lot of ice. It was quite sweet and surprisingly I didn't really taste much of the alcohol which is a bit surprising with what is listed. I personally would not recommend it as it wasn't worth it for the price. As is usual with us three, we got two appetizers and each of us got a main dish. I unfortunately went with the esquites which is one of if not my favorite Mexican appetizers. This consisted of grilled corn off the cob (instead of on like in elotes,) with cotija cheese, lime mayo, chile powder, sour cream (why,) and cilantro. Depending on preparation, this is either soupy or with a bit of broth and it usually has a fiery bite to it but this was not that at all. There also usually isn't sour cream (instead mayo is used usually) and there was a good amount of it for some reason. The corn was burnt and lacked flavor having not nearly enough tajin (or other chili.) I personally wouldn't pay $5 for it let alone whatever they charged and it was by far the worst version of this dish I've ever had. Our other appetizer was crispy Brussels sprouts with peanut-chile salsa, cotija cheese, and radishes. This dish was night and day compared to the other one with a good crisp but not so much it was burnt like the other vegetable. The salsa could have been more hot but it added some good flavor as well. I would recommend it. After my bland appetizer, my main was the mushroom quesadilla with huitlacoche and caramelized onion. They list their quesadillas as having cheddar and Monterey jack and chipotle "crack" sauce. The quesadilla had a very bland mushroom inside. I personally love huitlacoche (aka corn fungus) as it has a wonderful earthy flavor but I really couldn't taste it here as it was overwhelmed by the bad cheese blend. The mushrooms were also bland and all of the flavor came from their sauce which was essentially a chipotle mayo. This was also terrible and that someone used to ordering $4 quesadillas which actually have a lot of flavor, it wasn't worth it at all. I also tried someone's Baja fish salad which was by far the best dish. Pretty flaky fish though the breading was falling apart and the flavors were nice with a pretty good slaw with a little bit of heat unlike everything else. Pretty solid. Someone otherwise had fajitas which were fine. This was one of the rare times that I definitely did not order the best dishes. I unfortunately went with two of my favorites and they turned out to be the worst versions I've ever had of either of them. While I did have some good food, the bad dishes and bad cocktail outweigh the good. Nice server though it did take a while in the beginning to be served (likely since they were crowded for some reason.) Low 1.

John S.

Yelp
They put something like a 30 dollar tip on a 50 something dollar bill into the payment system so if I would have handed them my card it would have gone through. I noticed it and called them out on it and then they handed me the payment system back with the option to put in my own tip. It's very bad service to try and trick your customers like that.

Mahina A.

Yelp
The food was pretty decent; the fried chicken tacos were 8.5/10, and the service was good. However, the lack of air conditioning, which was insane, made the entire experience a -10. It was also 90 degrees that day. Why wasn't your air conditioner working, and why were you making your employees work in those conditions?

Katie G.

Yelp
Literally the best mango margarita of my life. This was a very cute and fun spot. We had margaritas (lime, strawberry and mango) and all of them were clearly made from fresh purée and ingredients and not just mixes. We ordered bowls and the pork bowl was very flavorful and decent size portion. Our waiter was super kind and attentive. 100% will go back.

Ronald B.

Yelp
We only go during lunch time because it's so busy in the evening. Drinks are well made l, food is consistent and good I especially like the fish tacos and the Mexican corn

Damian B.

Yelp
This restaurant is average at best. I ordered the wet burrito and the cilantro fries, which were really good. The burrito was average, nothing to rave about. The margaritas were basic. Overall, the presentation was poor. The service was okay. The ambiance was average. The good thing thing about this place was the price of its food and drinks.

Lauren H.

Yelp
Good enough food and really great margs. The servers and especially the bartenders are amazing and so kind. We frequented this place all the time but unfortunately they changed their happy hour deals and it's no longer worth the trek when there are so many better deals nearby. Sad to lose one of my favorite places after years of weekly attendance :(

Kinjal P.

Yelp
Great Mexican food! I'm not usually one to like chicken or meat in my Mexican food. However, I got chicken with my fajitas with the cashew cream (vegan sour cream) and it was so flavorful! The chicken was seasoned so well and cooked to perfection. The cashew cream to my surprise was really good as well! The beans, rice, guac, and pico de gallo were perfection as well. My husband got the California burrito and got it fully covered in sauce and cheese. He loved his burrito as well! Definitely a place we will go back to again. They have a great happy hour so will try to go during then. Sorry no pictures were taken-we ate it too fast

Ivan M.

Yelp
This place, diabolical. Menus are as fun and interesting as the shirts worn by the staff.. I can't remember how many times I have been here but it has to be at least 4. It's only missing a star because it felt a bit and a little rushed. Before the entire table was finished. The bar drinks are also awesome and fun. We had a round while waiting for a table. I'm not writing this right after going there. This is all off of my degrading memory lol. I remember always enjoying myself there. I'm also not sure how informative this is as I can't remember what I had or drank. I just remember liking it and looking forward to going back. Hope it's the same for you

Lisa A.

Yelp
The best guac, fish tacos, burritos. Yum! Service friendly, but slow. Ambiance casual.

Cady S.

Yelp
IM OBSESSED with this place. I have gotten the burritos, and the chicken enchiladas and they were so so so delicious. The margaritas are also spectacular, I like the frozen strawberry one the best! Whenever I have friends or don't know where to go I always pitch this place. Great vibes inside and outside. Also the 2 for 1 drinks on the brunch menu is soooo nice, great if you want to have a couple drinks but not do bottomless! Service has always been great as well!

Andrea H.

Yelp
Stopped in with some friends for a fun evening of margaritas and Mexican food. Located on the Upper East Side between 77th and 78th on 2nd Ave. its a lively place with a supper fun vibe. Margaritas are good. Warm homemade Chips and salsa are always a great compliment for margaritas. These did not disappoint and both the red and green salsas were made fresh with just the right amount of spice. Chicken Fajitas come to the table sizzling with warm tortillas and a plate of beans, rice, salsa, lettuce and cheese. It's always fun to make your own burritos. Carne Asada Bowl has grilled marinated steak, monterey jack cheese, cheddar cheese, chili crema, and topped with crispy tortilla strips. This Cal-Mex restaurant is solid. Service is good. If you're looking for a fun casual night out on the east side... this is it!

Gabby S.

Yelp
Mediocre Mexican food. Happy hour was not exciting. All the margaritas were overly sweet.

Yelp
*Tip: Happy Hour is now 4-6 PM instead of until 7 PM!! Just a tip for people trying to take advantage of the BOGO drink special during Happy Hour because I went later than 6 PM thinking HH was until 7 PM but they've changed it now! Food portion was great, I got a good amount of food for the $14 cali-style bowl. Taste-wise I did not think it was anything spectacular. The mango margarita drink I got was very tasty though, I would have definitely gotten more if I came during the right HH hours! Ambience inside I did not love as the music was super loud, which made it hard to keep a conversation with my friends I came with. Would probably come back during HH just for the drinks but not necessarily anything else.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place and went in for a drink.. naturally I get jalapeño poppers and Queso as well as a margarita. I didn't enjoy the queso so much. I should have stuck with guacamole but I do love spicy so I wanted to try the queso! I'm also not too much of a fan of cheese so this one could have just been me. The margarita was phenomenal. A perfect blend of spicy and tequila. The ambiance is cute as well. A traditional taco spot with a pretty bar and the music was at a perfect volume playing your traditional music. I came in here solely for a margarita and they did not disappoint. Service was also A1. Thank you!

Yelp
guac was good and the pork taco was great as well. margarita was a little small - i would recommend the pitcher if you're going with friends. waitress was very nice and it was a nice atmosphere inside. don't love having to pay for chips and salsa but they were worth it

Yelp
Dear Calexico, i'm obsessed with your tacos!! On my top list of tacos and the salsa and chips were good. The host was super nice and went out of their way. Highly recommend

Yelp
One of my favorite Mexican places in the UES! The Steak fajitas and burritos are amazing

Yelp
The 2-for-1 brunch cocktails are good enough of a reason to go. The champagne sunset was great and the Bloody Mary was super strong. The waitress was friendly and attentive. We got the normal non-brunch nachos that were super yummy and good portion. We split the ground beet tempeh which was so good. As a vegetarian, finding a good veggie burrito (that isn't unreasonably expensive) is tough especially in this area. I also loved that every table had an array of different hot sauces, it was fun to try different things! Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
The food was delicious. Tacos are much better than expected, and they are loaded with meat/shrimp. Service was spectacular. Super friendly and helpful servers who are on top of their game. Lots of seating. Chill vibes throughout the restaurant. Great for a weekend night dinner. Highly recommend if in the area.

Yelp
Its okay. Slight upgrade from chipotle but I wouldn't come back. Service was good. Overall its just ok but there are plenty of other good restaurants in the area.
