Casa Manco - Review - Testaccio - Rome - The Infatuation

"There aren’t many places in Rome to find vegan pizza that’s actually good, but Casa Manco is the exception. Get a slice of vegan pizza rossa that’s spiked with chili and a scattering of parsley and mint or go for one with radicchio, gorgonzola, and walnuts. Their location in the open-air Mercato di Testaccio is small, but there are a couple of seats around the market. Definitely check out some other vendors if you have some extra stomach space." - Team Infatuation

Casa Manco Review - Trastevere - Rome - The Infatuation

"There aren’t many places in Rome to find vegan pizza that’s actually good, but Casa Manco is the exception. Get a slice of vegan pizza rossa that’s spiked with chili and a scattering of parsley and mint or go for one with radicchio, gorgonzola, and walnuts. While you can stand and eat inside or sit at one of the two tiny areas outside, we recommend taking your pizza over to the Piazza di San Cosimato where you can find plenty of stone benches. If you come on a summer night, you can even catch a movie at the open-air cinema they set up in the piazza." - Gillian McGuire

The Best Pizza in Rome: 20 Pizzerias to Visit | Eater

"Testaccio has one of the few markets in Rome where you can graze on prepared food (the others focus on selling ingredients rather than meals). Husband-and-wife team Paola Manco and Andrea Salabè opened Casa Manco there in 2017, and it quickly became one of the most appealing spots in a growing sea of dining options. The couple sells pizza alla pala, naturally fermenting their dough and proofing it for four days before stretching it into oblong discs. The substantial toppings are suited for the structurally sound base: zucchini flowers, salted anchovies, and stracciatella; guanciale, pecorino Romano, and black pepper; potato and mozzarella. The simplest offering, dough rolled in sesame seeds and then baked, has an ethereal texture and toasted flavor that is incredibly complex, in spite of its seeming simplicity. There is a second location on Via di San Cosimato in Trastevere." - Katie Parla

Google
The food is very nice, it was my first time to be able to pay for Pizza by weight rather than size but it was extremely tasty. You can order a range of Pizza and try it out, it's really good. The system is a bit unusual but even though they are pre - made they are tasty. The food gets warmed up before it's handed to you. The lady serving us was really nice and even gave us some recommendations for locations to visit.

The best pizza we've ever had while being here in Rome. This is a MUST try!!! Casa Manco is located in a little area that also has many different vendors. You will find fresh fruits and veggies, coffee and beer, clothing, shoes and many other food options from paninis and other Italian specialty foods! Definitely a local favorite. Incredible pizza!! Go here 😋

Google
The ingredients are high-quality, and the dough is legendary. This is the place I'll remember most on the last day of my three-day trip to Rome. It's much better than the highly rated pizzerias in central locations. Andrea is very attentive. He explained the ingredients of all the pizzas to me without getting bored. 🏅🏅🏅

Google
This is the best pizza we had during a 4 week stay in Italy. We were in Rome for 6 days and ate here three times. The crust is crispy on the outside and chewy inside and the toppings are the best quality. There is a wide selection of creative veg and meat combinations and ice cold beer, and the service is fast and friendly. This is a must-try in Rome.

The best pizza I have ever had, best in Rome for sure!!! It was a selection of pizzas I probably would have never thought of trying. Just go there with an open mind and try new things. All the pizzas are delicious, the crust was also really good. The service is very friendly and outstanding. I wish I had this pizza back home. Well maybe that might not be so good for my weight LOL. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Great pizza slices, the ingredient is so fresh and not to mention the crust is 10 out of 10. The flavors are also amazing, not only the because they use fresh ingredient but also the owner knows how to mix the ingredients - I had a slice is sweet pepper with almond… surprising and so good!

Google
Discovered this local gem on my last day in Italy. Saw the reviews and figured I can’t go too wrong. Pizza was excellent, fresh and lots of variety. Owner was very kind to check how big a slice I wanted and charged based on the weight. He even warmed the pizza in the oven without me asking to make sure it was fresh (Pizza had been sitting on the counter for a while). It was so good I went to get another 4 slices…

Google
The reviews on this pizza place were so good that I thought they were exaggerated. They were not. The pizza is THAT good. My husband will choose pizza virtually every time we go out if it is an option. He said the Greek pizza (roasted tomatoes, onions, sauce and olives) was the best he had ever had. That is high praise. The people who work there are friendly and patient. I had the flatbread with simply olive oil salt and sesame seeds. I didn’t want to share :)

Yelp
Really tasty slices, and some nice flavors (potato, sausage, mozzarella & bleu cheese) and a properly cooked Roman crust. But IMO it's not really that special. I've feel I've had pizza like this elsewhere in the world. The staff speaks English and is friendly. They have one tiny table for two, but otherwise it's grab and go. The market features a communal dining area nearby. It was nice to get out of the central hubbub and into this quieter corner of Rome.

Yelp
September 2024 -- Located at the Mercato Testaccio - Testaccio Market - I love love love this place. The pizza is amazing - made w special crust and a long rising process. My favorite was a mushroom w cream cheese, lemon zest and red pepper flakes. This was a highlight of our 16 day trip to Sicily, Umbria and Rome. GO NOW!!!! oh and the man who is the owner is soooo nice.

Yelp
Casa Manco is one of my absolute favorite pizza places in Rome (anywhere really). It's quite unique. Their pizzas have a beautiful elongated oval shape and a wonderful airy interior. They're thicker than most yet still quite light with wonderful fresh and flavorful toppings. They do a great one with zucchini flowers, anchovies, and fior di latte. It may be my favorite. They do another with mozzarella and roasted tomatoes that has more typical flavor notes. The sausage and mushrooms is tasty too. It's "al taglio" (by the cut) so you can get as much or as little as you want. They're all displayed in front of you so you know what you're getting. It's best to select a few to sample the range of their magic. And if Casa Manco alone isn't enough, the Testaccio Market is a wonderful place to wander and explore. As is the whole area. If you can book the Testaccio Neighborhood Food Tour with Market Visit run by Devour Tours, Rhianne is a fantastic guide. The area has an amazing history and lots of outstanding foods to sample. We loved it!

Yelp
Love this place! I came here right after landing in Rome, it was the first and some of the best pizza I had in all of Italy. The prices are great and there are so many different options to choose from! The owners are some of the sweetest people I had met!

Yelp
Casa Manco has the BEST PIZZA I have ever eaten!!! I live in New York, and I was absolutely amazed by this pizza! The owner/Chef is very kind, funny, and passionate about his pizza creations! My favorite was his white truffle pizza with cheese and lemon zest, which I named "White Truffle Dream". I loved the bacon pizza as well. ALL THE PIZZA CREATIONS ARE EXCELLENT!!!! Annie S. New York, USA MIEULLE PIZZA DE MA VIE!!!!!!

Yelp
Casa Manco is THE BEST PIZZA in Rome, and I've tried many! One of the most amazing features of their pizza is the crust. The dough has a long fermentation period (like 100 hours) and the flavor is extraordinary! They sell pieces of the crust covered with sesame seeds and for so simple a combination it's truly delicious. Then, to top their wonderful crust they select the finest, freshest organic ingredients, often from vendors in the Testaccio Market where they are located. My favorite is the squash flowers with stracciatella and anchovies. But they have many to choose from and they change from day to day depending on the availability of ingredients. Some pizzas, like the Casa Manco pizza, is always available because it's so popular. You can see from the photos that the toppings are not only varied and delicious, but also carefully and beautifully arranged so every slice gives you the full flavor each variation can deliver. Believe me when I say "this is THE place to go in Rome for pizza"! Finally, I must also mention the wonderful people who make and serve the pizza. They will explain each pizza and what it has and serve it to you with a heartfelt smile. They are often very busy at lunch so be prepared to take a number and wait a bit. Best to go either before or after the lunch rush, especially if you are in a hurry.

Yelp
Even better than expected. Amazing dough, fresh ingredients and friendly service. Perfect way to start trip in Rome - will be back!

Yelp
Honestly the best pizza I had when I was traveling in Italy -- only been to Venice, Florence, and Rome. I went to Bonci and other popular ones in Rome and Casa Manco was my favorite. It's located in the new market in Testaccio. I know most tourists won't venture in this area as it's not "pretty" as the areas everyone wants to go to as it doesn't have any of the famous historical artifacts/structures. Some may call it "ghetto" but it's better than walking through Compton. I wouldn't recommend going at night but the market closes at 2 or 3pm so you won't be out there late anyway. And it's a shame because the food here is just as amazing as any other places I went to. All the other pizzas I've had in Italy are different than the ones I had in the states as they either were in the flat bread style or used focaccia bread. Which are good but I'll admit I missed the dough on the American pizza. I think that's why I liked Casa Manco because though it was in the flat bread style it had a similar texture to the pizza I loved. And not only that, the flavors of their pizza was divine. Other pizza I had were good and I knew the ingredients were fresh but the flavor was subdued. The people here were so sweet and they offered us so many samples! They are well known for this one that has sesame seeds. I saw many locals buying this.

Yelp
My wife and I have been in Italy for our honeymoon for the past three weeks. We started and ended in Rome. And of all the cities we've visited, and all the pizza we tried (including in Napoli) we both agreed that this was the best we had hands down. They offer many freshly cooked pizzas with an incredible variety of toppings. You simply choose your flavor and the slice off as much or as little as you want, warm it up, and serve it up by weight. This is a great way to get to sample many of the delicious pies that they make daily. The servers are all friendly and spoke multiple languages. I can't wait to come back to Rome just to eat more of their pizza! Highly recommended.

Yelp
On our first day in Rome, my mother, sister and I made a special trip to CasaManco at the suggestion of my brother and we're still talking about it. After our first round of slices, Chef Andrea was so kind and generous offering us his favorites (although it's hard to choose a favorite from among the myriad adventurous and satisfying flavors - you must try the lemon pizza!) as well as some freshly made suppli and an extra bottle of wine just for fun. A true hi light of our trip and I spot I intend to make a pilgrimage to the next time I'm in Rome.

Yelp
Delightful food and even better service. Guy working the register was amazing and helpful. Let me try the meat before he made the za.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic place to have a set of Roman pizzas. Pizza bread is so crispy and airy that you just feel heavens. Try anchovies with zucchini flowers for a genuine Rome food experience. Staff was extremely hospitable. Perfetto!

Yelp
My favorite pizza in Rome. Always yummy flavors and wonderful people! Tiny details like lemon zest and red pepper flakes make every bite amazing. I have walked to Mercato di Testaccio several times just for this pizza. Molto buona.

Yelp
We ordered 4 small pieces of pizza for 4€ and definitely very good price-value. Pizzas were tasty and service very friendly. If u go to merco Testaccio visit this place. (Ate our pizzas with proseccos bought at stall next to Casa Manco)

Yelp
Best Pizza we had on our trip through the South of Italy and Rome. The dough is made with different flours (+whole wheat) and the combination of toppings range from classic to Persian, always with the right cheese selection on top. Our left over pizza was still delicious at the next day. The family run business has a stand at Mercator Testaccio and in Trastevere.

Yelp
The exemplary service was the lure, but the reeling in was the fantastic pizza. As an American, it felt comforting to be greeted in English without any air of arrogance or condescending undertones. I was guided through the process of ordering and even allotted a sample of the bread base of the pizza. They allow you to customize your slice size. I ordered the eggplant and the mushroom pizza, and I have to give the edge to the mushroom. It had this fresh, bright, lemon zest that really just made the whole slice of pizza pop like no other slice I have ever had. It was truly an experience, especially since it was my first bite in Rome, fresh off the plane. They really do a great job of making a customer centered experience. I devoured the pizza on a pull out shelf adjacent to the stand, happy to start off my Rome food experience with a bang.
