The 38 Best Restaurants in Mexico City

"Tapping into diners’ interest in Yucatecan cuisine, restaurateur Gabriela Cámara opened Castacán in spring 2024. The menu’s stars are the traditional cochinita pibil, the roasted suckling pig, and the crispy castacán (Yucateco pork belly). Order a taco of each to try the full range or go for a torta if you feel more ambitious, along with side orders of black refried beans, cheese, or longaniza sausage. The quality of the tortillas and salsas match Cámara’s care and respect for Yucateco traditions, but the look and feel of Castacán is entirely CDMX: bright pink floor tiles, eye-catching signs, and walls lined with intricate mosaic tiles." - Natalia de la Rosa, Daniela Galarza

The Hit List: New Mexico City Restaurants To Try Right Now

"Castacán, run by the same crew behind Contramar, is vibrant with colorful tiles, loud music, and metal folding chairs. It’s got a lot going on, unlike the menu, which is refreshingly simple: just Yucatán-style pork tacos and tortas, plus vegetable versions thrown in for good measure. The highlight is the $2.50 taco de cochinita pibil—slow-roasted piglet drenched in juices that’ll leave your hands (and probably your shirt) a mess, but the one with lechón con castacán, fried pork belly, is also a solid pick. Castacan keeps the drink menu straightforward, too, with Carta Blanca beer, rosé and white wine by the glass, and Boing guava soft drinks." - guillaume guevara

Castacán - Review - La Condesa - Mexico City - The Infatuation

For a tad more flavor, add avocado for 75 cents. Castacán

"There are two reasons to make a beeline to this Roma Norte restaurant and they're both focused on pork. This spot's large staff welcomes diners at both lunch and dinner, but everyone is focused on the food. Cochinita pibil and lechon tacos compete for your attention, so get both. Good quality tortillas get things off to a good start. The slow-roasted, marinated pork that's shredded and enhanced with pickled red onions is top notch, while the lechon tacos plate tender, roast suckling pig with pieces of crispy skin for a standout bite. A wide range of salsas is on offer, from spicy habanero and a sesame aioli to mild yogurt sauce." - Michelin Inspector

Amazing service. Delicious food. Cochinita Tacos - 5/5 Lechon Tacos - 5/5 Castacan Tacos - 5/5 Cochinita Torta - 5/5 Lechon Torta - 5/5 Guacamole - 5/5 The entire menu is phenomenal. Some of the best guacamole I’ve had. All the tacos are super tasty, juicy, and fresh. I highly recommend the lechon. The tortas are big and the bread is warm and delicious. The cochinita is excellent. Lots of tasty salsas. Service is excellent. Super friendly. Great recommendations. Great experience.

This was listed as a recommendation on the Michelin guide app. Although they did not receive a star rating this is not a place you want to miss out on in Mexico City. The Pork was amazing! The torta was great and the sauces offered varied in flavors and heat! The manager/owner?? Was in house that day and I was able to speak with him about the restaurant and compliment them personally. I compared his pork to TX style bbq and let him know how good it was. The food came out quick and service was great!

Make no mistake, prices are high vs other traditional taquerias, but the price comes with an extremely well cared product. The tacos are some of the best I've ever had (specially the cochinita pibil) with very good sauces (shout-out to the green and habanero sauces). If you are craving good Yucatan style pork tacos around the center of CDMX you won't miss, but be ready to pay for the price.

Excellent tacos with great attention to detail. Service is also amazing. They are quite expensive especially compared to street vendors but I believe it is worth it.

Decent pork tacos - but nothing too remarkable. I had the guacamole with castacan, and all the pork based tacos.

A green sticky tape with marker-written was found in my taco, I had to spit it out and left with a discussing taste in my mouth. The tape was about 1.5 ish inches long and half inch wide, obviously was used to label ingredients or some sorts. I’m very surprised how they didn’t see it served in pulled pork. Unacceptable. When I called the server and showed him the tape, he took the half bitten taco away with no explanation. About 5 mins later a manager looking person came to my table apologized with the food re-done. I simply can’t trust the food anymore and asked for the bill, then he said it is taken care of. The gesture is appreciated, however I’d rather pay and not have eaten a gluey limey tape. I came here from taco recommendations by Joshua Weissman, the food YouTuber. After eating at several places suggested in his video, I rate his recommendations a 3/10 aka above average American but disappointing for my standards.

One of my new all-time favorite discoveries. Castacan is a pork lover’s paradise! From the tender Cochinita Pibil to the crispy Chicharron, each taco is a flavor bomb. The variety of sauces makes it a fun, customizable experience, letting you mix and match to your heart’s content. Every bite is balanced and bursting with complexity—truly phenomenal! Plus, the service and cleanliness here is A1.

Great tacos. I was shocked at how much I loved los tacos de castacán. El agua del día and las salsas were so good. Great service, great playlist, and the candy at the end was a nice touch. 10/10 would recommend.
