Best fried seafood & po'boys; fresh fish market; local favorite
"Castnet Seafood makes our favorite po’boy in the city (yes, even better than Parkway). If it’s your first time, go with the quintessential dressed New Orleans fried shrimp, which comes with lettuce, pickle, tomato, Blue Plate mayonnaise, Crystal hot sauce, and a little butter on Leidenheimer French bread. They also serve a hot sausage option that’s equally good, made with Patton’s, which is the gold standard for ground meat patties, and tastes great dressed with cheese. You can also get really quality boiled seafood and fixins, fried or fresh seafood, gumbo, and plate lunches. Did we mention there’s also a snowball stand on the right (Brain Freeze) and a barbecue joint that’s a Jazz Fest classic on the left (Walker’s BBQ)?" - chelsea brasted, zella palmer, carlo mantuano, megan braden perry
"You'll find our favorite po'boy at Castnet Seafood in New Orleans East, which is about a twenty-minute ride from downtown. You could probably convince us to drive to the end of the earth for their fried shrimp po'boy, though. They’re always generous with the shellfish, packing large handfuls of fried-to-order Louisiana shrimp (with breading that somehow always stays on) in the sandwich. This classic establishment is also a seafood retailer, so anything coming from the ocean is going to be excellent—especially their flaky crawfish pies. They also serve a hot sausage po'boby (with Patton's, of course) that’s equally good." - megan braden perry
"Castnet is a classic New Orleans seafood market in Little Woods, ever reliable for redfish filets, shrimp, crawfish, and even lobster. The charming spot also carries vegetables, locally made delicacies, and since its return, Hubig’s pies." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono
"Castnet Seafood in New Orleans East makes our favorite po’boy in the city (yes, even better than Parkway). They've been serving fried shrimp sandwiches, crawfish pies, and all kinds of seafood since they opened in 1988. They also make a hot sausage po'boy that’s equally good, using Patton’s, which is the gold standard for ground meat patties. Did we mention there’s also a snowball stand on the right (Brain Freeze) and a barbecue joint that’s a Jazz Fest classic on the left (Walker’s BBQ)?" - megan braden perry, zella palmer, team infatuation
"There’s plenty of New Orleans sandwich royalty—shout out the muffuletas from Central Grocery—but po’boys are king.
