The definition of British elegance. Everything about Charlie’s is welcoming, friendly, grand, beautiful, and delicious.
The staff are a delight, making you feel welcome and going out of their way to insist on giving you the perfect evening. They event told us about how Brown’s is the oldest hotel in London, and how the Queen used to come here for afternoon tea!
The atmosphere is everything I want in a restaurant — busy but not loud, grand but not intimidating, sophisticated but not overbearing.
We had steak tartare and tuna as starters, and venison and duck for mains. The venison was absolutely perfectly prepared with an exquisite sauce. The sides were arguably the best part. Even the chips… the chips were possibly the best chips I’ve ever eaten. Seriously, how do you make chips this good?!
The dessert… we couldn’t manage dessert. Or so we thought!
The waiter insisted on bringing us a light spoon of chocolate mousse that he prepared at the table for us. It was the perfect sweet and delightful surprise to round off an absolutely perfect evening in the heart of London.
I already can’t wait to return!
