Chez Moi Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Chez Moi is a casual but nice French bistro in Lincoln Park. It’s small, rarely crowded, and not too expensive - all good qualities in a neighborhood restaurant. You’ll find plenty of classic dishes (like duck a l’orange) on the menu, and preparations change slightly with the seasons. Come with a date or group of friends for a casual weeknight meal - as long as none of your dinner companions is scared of butter, you’ll be good." - Adrian Kane

Google
A cute, cozy restaurant with (mostly) French food that was delicious! Portions were perfect for sharing-- it was 4 of us for my mom's birthday dinner. We actually got all the specials that the server listed (which I *never* do!) because they all sounded so good, and we were not disappointed! The carrot ginger soup (a special) was amazing and the French onion soup was great, too. Escargot was good, slightly too chewy for my taste. The branzino with mushrooms and bok choy in dashi broth was phenomenal! (Another special) And the last special, the pistachio risotto was amazing! Duck breast with barley was very good, as per my brother. And for the dessert, we got the floating meringue with almonds, salted caramel sauce, and a cream sauce. It was divine! Would definitely come back here and try the other food and desserts!

Google
The food was incredible. My friend and I started with the french onion soup then we decided to split an order of the croquettes, and mussels. Everything tasted delicious, perfect temperature, not to salty! I will definitely be coming back here.

Google
I ordered only drinks at the bar, but I’ve never encountered such a rude bartender before. The bartender took my order with a frown, then kept making complaining that he couldn’t hear me. It was a really unpleasant experience. It was the evening of January 17th. This photo shows the amount of the cocktail I received before drinking. I mentioned that the drink seemed to have a small amount, but they responded with an annoyed attitude, saying it was just because there was no ice.

Google
The food is consistently good. If the chef is reading, here are some reviews Tuna tartare is light and fresh Tomato soup is tasteful and creamy, can reduce some sugar French onion soup is flavorful. Can reduce some salt Lamb couscous’s is tender and has big portion but could be marinated more. The side veggies are well flavored but a bit salty. Duck breast also has good flavor but could add some crispy texture Steak is well seasoned and tender. The meat quality can be improved but it’s good for the price. Like the outdoor seating but don’t sit at the inside corner cos it has some urine smells cos people suck.

Google
The food quality is much better than comparable french places around the city. The steak tartare was the first one that I've had for a long time that really stood out - properly flavored and seasoned. Mussels were excellent and just a little different with the sauces than one might expect. Overall everything was a level or two elevated from what you might think.

Google
A beautiful brunch spot! The food was amazing and I cannot wait to come back.

Google
We had an amazing brunch experience at Chez Moi! The Croque Madame, Egg White Frittata, Homemade Scones and cappuccino were all delicious. The service was great, and the prices were fair for the quality. The cozy and tasteful atmosphere made it even better. We definitely plan to return!

Google
We've been here 10 times already and I keep forgetting to leave a review. It's weird to write something when you come back to the same place all the time. It happened few times that some dishes were not so good, but as a rule - the food is very decent and tasty. My favorites are always paté and tartare. Excellent cocktails and most importantly, pleasant service. Another little secret, if you're here around 9 or 11 p.m., you can get into their speakeasy bar downstairs, where you can see a 5-minute burlesque show.

Yelp
We enjoyed our Christmas Eve dinner here in the warmly lit, intimate room. The service was kind. We shared the French onion soup. I had a bad French onion soup over a decade ago. This one has completely changed my mind. It was perfectly sweet and tasty topped with salty cheesiness. The frog legs were expertly fried. I felt it could use a touch of salt. The rabbit special with the pappardelle pasta with cream of mushroom soup was so decadent. The lobster risotto was very comforting. We ended our night with profiteroles and creme brulee. If you get the profiteroles, you definitely do not need another dessert as it was massive. I would definitely come back again!

Yelp
***Amazing Service, Dog Friendly, Highly Recommend*** First, they're super dog friendly and the outdoor seating is spacious. Our waiter brought out water for the pups which I really appreciated. I highly recommend their fresh juice and the egg white frittata was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
I've been here twice. The first time was great. The second time was ok. But both times the service was very good. We had a server who was new (the same server in fact), but she was pleasant and attentive and very sweet. The first time I had the absinthe, the white wine mussels and the tartin tarte (spelling: unsure). The second time we ordered the pate and I chose the duck entree. Sadly, the duck wasn't as good as other duck I've had in the past, although it came recommended. My partner ordered the lamb and although he usually loves lamb, he liked mine better... his was truthfully a little bland :/ Both times we sat outside so I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the inside but from what I've seen, it's cute. I can't say I'll go back to be honest but I'm glad we tried it. Luckily there's a lot of options in the area so lots to choose from.

Yelp
Made brunch reservations for a group of 6 and was seated right away. Prompt, friendly service. They read off the specials of the day, which piqued our interest. 2 people in my party ordered the Salmon Burger special, which was good and juicy. I ordered the Eggs Norwegian, which came with the crispiest breakfast potatoes! Only critique from brunch was that I wish the Fresh Orange Juice was colder, but the drink would've otherwise separated if it sat in the fridge. It was refreshing, nonetheless. Overall, it's a solid, standard spot with decent brunch items on the menu located in the convenient Cobble Hill neighborhood. Would come back for brunch again!

Yelp
The food is very good (especially the quiche) but it's important to note that the information on Google is misleading. There is a grab bar in the restroom but it is NOT wheelchair accessible as the doors are not only not ADA width (32") but were too narrow for my 22.25" wide chair that can usually fit in tighter spaces that are not technically ADA compliant. This is compounded by staff that tries to be helpful but doesn't understand that the best way to be helpful is to provide accurate information about the accessibility of their facilities and to help problem solve. I was able to use the restroom at the restaurant next door but the hostess here failed to walk me over to ensure I would get access and I was the one who suggested it because I'd been to Colonie before and knew their layout. Partnering with neighboring businesses to resolve these types of accessibility issues is totally acceptable and staff needs to be better trained. Normally I would have eaten at Colonie instead at that point but my friend really wanted to try this place so I stayed. There are two steps to get inside and staff were quick to setup a ramp. Outdoor seating in a 3 sided streetery and several sidewalk tables.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night, ambiance is really cute for a date as it has small candles and dim lights. However it gets really busy and can be cramped. Beet and goat cheese salad was good and sweet. Apple salad was okay but other in the group really liked it. The mushroom croquettes were really good. Salmon was really good but wasn't too much of a fan of the ratatouille. Bissou mock tail was really good tasted like really sweet ginger beer.

Yelp
Have been coming to Chez Moi for eight years now and for better or worse it hasn't really changed at all during that time! The atmosphere is warm and cozy and convivial, and the classic French bistro menu is unchanging other than specials. Cocktails are better than the average restaurant like this (the Chez Moi and Pamplemousse are faves). The mussels are always very good and fresh (the Provençal sauce is especially tasty). The skate is a bit hit or miss in terms of being a little overcooked but the artichoke/fave beans mix it comes with is always good. The food may not blow your mind but it's always good enough, and for a dependable solid neighborhood spot, we've never had any major complaints!.

Yelp
been there for both dinner and brunch and food was always good and flavorful and staff friendly

Yelp
Food, service, and ambiance all get 5 stars! Went with a friend for drinks, stayed for dinner, and then went downstairs to Le Boudoir for more drinks and a burlesque performance. Upstairs, we shared the octopus and escargot for appetizers followed by the salmon and duck with farro for our entrees. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection! Customer service from the host to the bartenders was exceptional! The ambiance is perfect for a date night. It's an absolute yes for me!

Yelp
Had such a bad experience at Chez Moi tonight. I went with my husband and we ordered a few apps to share (escargot and tuna tartare) and then he got the lamb and I got the burger. The escargot was good, the tuna mediocre (just unseasoned tuna over guacamole basically). The big issue was with my entree. I ordered my burger medium rare. I prefer it medium rare but I understand restaurants tend to overcook a bit, so if it came out medium I wouldn't have cared all that much. It came out very well done. Our waitress came over and asked how everything was. I told her my burger was overcooked, but since I was pretty hungry I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for them to remake it, so I'd just eat this one. She said it wasn't a problem and they could make me another in five minutes. In the meantime she let me hold on to my plate. I didn't want more of the burger so I had some of the salad which was drowning in dressing. I used two napkins to try to sop it up and it was still 4x more dressing than any reasonable person would want. I ended up just waiting. When my second burger came out it didn't have any of the toppings (onion, lettuce, tomato). I asked for these and they apologized and took it back. There weren't fries either but our waitress packed up the first burger and there were fries in that, so I didn't want to make it into a thing. Not a big deal anyway. So then I cut into the second burger just to check since the first one was so over, and this one is COMPLETELY raw. Not like a little under medium rare but straight up a raw meat patty browned on the outside. When our waitress came over I let her know, and she brought it back to the kitchen. I said at that point that I could just eat my first burger (didn't say this part) bc clearly they don't know how to cook a burger and I was very hungry by this point. They don't bring out a plate or anything so my husband is like - yeah they're making you a new burger. She didn't say that but I figured he was probably right since they didn't say anything more. While I'm sitting there and my husband is finishing his meal, the manager comes over and asks how everything is going. I just look at her blankly. My husband is like - 'yeah...well you know her burger was raw.' And she's like yeah I know our server told me. Not really sure why she didn't just come say that in the first place and apologize? Bc obviously I'm not having the best time. So then she offers us a free dessert which we decline bc we don't like to eat dessert. Our waitress comes over and clears my husband's plate. She asks if we want to see the dessert menu or have an espresso or etc. my husband says we're still waiting on my burger, and she's like oh I'm sorry I thought you mentioned you'd eat this one (points at box on the table next to me). So now it's clear they didn't plan to bring anything new out, but then why wouldn't you at least replate the food so I was t sitting there watching my husband eat his meal? I guess I could have eaten it out of the paper box?! Not sure if that was what they were expecting. Just weird though. So then the check comes and the burger is on it. We also got three drinks. Nothing is comped. I'm not trying to pay for this burger that I didn't eat / wasn't what I wanted, so I say that I'd like it taken off bc I didn't get what I asked for - well done and then raw burger, and I just sat there for the whole meal without food in front of me. She goes to get her manager. I say the same thing to the manager (who I'm sure already knows the situation bc the server told her) and she's already got the adjusted check. Then she takes away the box they've already packed for me to presumably throw it away in the kitchen. Which like, I know I didn't end up paying for it but then it's such a bad experience bc now I'm literally just being sent home hungry after sitting in your restaurant for an hour and a half. In addition to that, our server is now being cold, despite the fact that I've been really chill about everything this whole thing, and then stated very politely that I didn't want to pay for something that wasn't what I ordered / wanted. It was just a really weird / not great experience. Definitely won't be back and will advise friends against it as well. TLDR; doesn't know how to cook a burger. Bad customer service.

Yelp
- tasty fries - string drinks - there's beer options that aren't conveniently advertised - mussels are good, very saucy It's soup in the end - I had to ask for bread - French onion soup is the bomb! - the soup is very hot - walked right in on a fall Friday 9:30 - ask about speakeasy downstairs - cost atmosphere, conducive to conversation

Yelp
Booked reservations for brunch on Resy for two at noon on a Saturday, 15 minutes before walking in, which made it easy without waiting. Ordered the buttermilk banana pancakes and the Mushroom Crepes which were both good.

Yelp
Delightful place for brunch! Food -- smoked salmon eggs Benedict, French toast -- was yummy and the ambiance is very pleasant. Slightly dim and calm yet lively.

Yelp
TLDR: Blonde bartender lost my sister's credit card due to negligence, and the manager was only trying to cover her ass. 0/5 I do not recommend coming here. My sister and I stopped by tonight to meet up with friends. We walked into a burlesque show which was fantastic. When the show ended, my sister went to the bar to get a drink. After a while, I noticed she had her drink in hand but still lingered at the bar. She wasn't talking to anyone; it looked like she was waiting. When she made her way back, I asked her what happened. She said she was waiting for the bartender to give back her card because she stated she didn't want to keep a tab open but the bartender went straight to making drinks after charging her card. My sister thought that the bartender kept the card for an open tab so she will go back up to the bar to close it later. I can see my sister was anxious so I told her to go to the bar and get her card back, instead of waiting til later. She spoke with the same bartender, (unfortunately we didn't get her name but she was light skin/white with long blonde hair), and I can see immediately something was wrong. The blonde bartender and a male bartender started looking around at the bar. Then told my sister they don't have her card there. Obviously my sister was upset because it meant the blonde bartender lost her card. After some back and forth, the manager Tyler came over. My sister explained the situation and Tyler went to 'investigate.' I told my sister to go outside to lock her card since there was no service in the bar. Tyler comes over and informed me and my friends that they did not receive her card as there is no ticket with her drink on it, meaning she was never charged for the drink. The tone in her voice insinuated that my sister was lying. I updated my sister on what Tyler said and my sister pulled up the transaction her bank app. My sister showed Tyler the proof of transaction and Tyler suddenly switches up and said the blonde bartender charged her card and gave it back to her. (Huh??) That was not true hence this whole debacle, and if that was the case, why did Tyler lie and say they never received her card?? My sister and I did give some thought to what Tyler said and if it is true, then that means the bartender gave her card to the wrong person. In the end, Tyler gave us her business card and told my sister to write down her name and number so she can follow up with her. Throughout this entire ordeal, not once did the blonde bartender nor Tyler own up to their screw up or apologized or acted apologetically. 0/5 stars experience

Yelp
Wonderful! We shared octopus & both tartars. I had a perfectly cooked steak fritz. My dinning companion had the lamb shank which looked amazing

Yelp
We had a wonderful dining experience at this French restaurant. The duck breast special was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The staff were attentive and courteous, and the service was prompt and efficient. The ambience was cozy with dim lighting. This is a place we would love to visit again.

Yelp
Aude was our server and she was excellent. Great energy, fun attitude, Excellent recommendations AND I'M IN LOVE!!! they have a Branzino filet!!!!!!! I don't have to pick out bones in public. Hidden secret. Speakeasy in the basement representing Marie Antoinette's boudoir! Had a Louis XVI and a Petit Cochon plus 2 more drinks that were yummy, but I forgot to note the names.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night, and it was pretty packed, as expected. Thankfully, we had made a reservation and were seated right away, although the table was pretty tiny and the whole place was tightly packed with the tables spread very close to each other. Service was slow. We ordered a few appetizers: escargot, tuna tartare, and steak tartare. Our server told us there was a long wait for the food and double-checked if we'd like to order more. Food was good; I loved the escargot as well as both tartares. I just didn't like the tightly packed ambiance. There is a bar downstairs that we went to after dinner to grab drinks. Review of that coming soon.

Yelp
We stopped in here for lunch on Friday and there were a few other tables seated as well. The ambience was very nice and the service was great, efficient without being overbearing. We started with the pate to share and as soon as we started eating it we knew we were in for a good meal. My partner ordered the chicken Caesar salad, which he said was very good. I had the mussels Provencale and these were some of the best mussels I have ever eaten, lovely and juicy and full of flavour. The sauce was delicious and I could have used some bread to mop it up. The frites which came with the mussels were also very tasty and seasoned just right. We both agreed that this was one of the nicest restaurants that we have visited in the area. We will definitely be back and will likely try it for dinner one evening. Highly recommend Chez Moi if you are after some good tasty food!

Yelp
This was one of the first restaurants we set foot in Brooklyn 9 years ago. It's amazing that their menu has remained largely the same, but it's classics/staples that we find ourselves coming back again and again to enjoy. Food is always prepared perfectly, servers are friendly and attentive. Good for all occasions with a romantic touch. Check out the basement speakeasy when its open, too -- it's hip and cool 8-)

Yelp
Chez Moi is a great spot, whether you're looking for drinks, appetizers, or a full entree. i personally love their duck, as well as their moules frites. the service is good and the ambiance is nice.

Yelp
I was actually in the mood for oysters but my usual spot was closed for the day. As I wandered the streets I realized that Chez Moi was in the area. I had this place bookmarked for a while so I decided to drop in and see what they had. No oysters but I spied Mussels. It's really hard for me not to order mussels (either as app or entree) when I see them on the menu. So I got a small cocktail and ordered the mussels. I had the sensation of sand on my 2nd one and that pretty much ruined my experience, esp since that gritty first chew was not the last. I tasted way more grit than I could let fly by. I was kinda annoyed. Chewing with caution is not a good feeling. Am sure other items that doesn't come with sand/grit may have offered a better experience but I was frankly very underwhelmed.

Yelp
a great place to eat and drink! the drinks were mixed well and the food was great, should've had more.

Yelp
Last night we went for a neighborhood stroll for dinner and drinks. The first server who let us know that she was 18 years old informed us she didn't much about the cocktails which is very understandable. She was polite and a wonderful server. The server for our table changed shortly after - Diana is now our server. Diana never checked in on us (we wanted to order more drinks) until we called her over and asked about the cauliflower "gratin" if it had dairy (which it clearly did) but we wanted to be certain. Diana was extremely short and rude in tone. Her response "Did you ask if there was dairy or did you ask if there was cheese. If you didn't ask if it had dairy I don't know but it does." She then walked away. Then attitude proceeded even further when we asked for a take out box since we no longer wanted to stay at Chez Moo. This continued throughout the night for reasons unknown and her demeanor with other guests at the other tables appeared very contrasting to our table of minorities. It was just 2 of us. It's unfortunate this used to be a restaurant we loved but definitely not going again due to service. The food is still lovely, if it's based just on food, highly recommend but not recommended if you value good service for a dinner at a restaurant.

Yelp
This place is cute. I truly like the vibe. More importantly ALL the food was divine. The French 75 was so tasty I had to order another. Everyone was super sweet to me since it was my birthday. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Went for brunch with my family and it was excellent! we ordered the croque madam and it was delicious and the service was exceptional ! our order was a little delayed because it was crowded and they brought us scones and apologized! Great Customer service ! if you want to go to a restaurant and relax and enjoy your food this is the place for you ! however if you want to do the typical American thing and rush in expect your food to be served yesterday and then inhale it this is not the place for you !!! don't bother ! my family and I loved it and we'll be returning for dinner !!! Merci !

Yelp
4.5/5! Came here as a "nice dinner Tuesday" with the apartment mates. No wait on tuesdays! I got the lamb couscous and this was definitely in the upper echelon of lamb that I've had. Super tender and lightly fatty. I was surprised when I stuck my fork in cause it basically fell off the bone. Sauce paired nicely with everything - loved when it mixed with the couscous and the vegetables. Couscous was fluffy and the vegetables were super soft - as if they've been cooked in a soup for hours. Was able to try my friends order of mussels - super tasty, especially with the "soup" it came with. Fries could have been crispier but felt like McDonald's on a good day (compliment) Definitely recommend this place for dinner!

Yelp
This restaurant was good but not my favorite, but I would probably go back with friends again! Some of the food was perfect but other dishes were slightly off. The staff was kind and helpful, and very prompt to bring anything requested. The drinks were excellent, all the cocktails tasted delicious. I tried the Ménage á Trois (my fav), Pamplemousse, and Fumé. They have a decent selection of wine that is reasonably priced. The Chateau Lamartine was a great malbec. Their chocolate martini for dessert was absolutely amazing, incredibly rich hot chocolate flavor. Probably one of my favorite cocktails and definitely my favorite dessert cocktail anywhere. Their Escargots is prepared in advance , so I couldn't order it without the breadcrumbs. Disappointing but understandable because this happens a lot when I try to order food without gluten or bread. The steak tartare was probably the best dish. Whatever their house dressing is that's used in it is top-tier. Definitely recommend! The charred octopus had a strange flavor, which almost tasted like pork? The sauce was OK but the chickpeas were not really cooked or soft before put in the dish so they had like a surprising crunch. I would've preferred the chickpeas softer, but that wasn't really the bad part. Overall, the octopus itself was not good. The French onion soup was pretty good but incredibly sweet. I'm not sure why it was so sweet and maybe it was actually sweetened. But it wasn't bad. The cheese plate was a nice selection and I liked all of the cheeses. Also there was a good quantity of cheese for the price. Unlike other places that give very small portions, this was great! I recommend for sharing as a starter... or eat it yourself like I did ha. I had the mussels in the white wine and shallot sauce (mariniere), and they were very good! Cooked perfectly and all opened in a good flavor sauce with perfect sauce ratio for dipping. Lastly, the creme brûlée was perfect. Definitely recommend dessert and they had many other options, too.

Yelp
I had a wonderful brunch here at the beginning of fall when it was still warm out. My friends and I sat outside and they had a cute area set up with plants and a covering to protect from any rain. The service was very friendly! There were a lot of good options on the menu to choose from. I ended up with the eggs Benedict and it was one of the best I've ever had! I also had a delicious cocktail that had just the right amount of sweetness without being too sweet. Would love to come back here for another brunch or maybe dinner!

Yelp
We started having drinks at the bar. The bartender was professional but not overly friendly. Drinks were fine. We had a dinner reservation so we decided it was time to have a seat to eat something. The waitress (french) was very adamant about which table to give us, even though there was a lot of choice around. She decided not to give us a table we had picked because it was a table for 4.. but then another couple sat there 15 minutes later! Not a good feeling since we had asked for that specific table that was available! Once we were ready to order, we decided on escargots to share and then 2 of the same dishes as entrees. The waitress told us we were doing this wrong by ordering two same dishes and tried to convince us to switch our order to something else! She did the same thing with the 2 glasses of wine we had selected, insisting I should get a different wine. It was annoying and weird. Not normal behavior to try to make us feel like we couldn't choose our own food and wine. We picked two different desserts (which probably made her happy). We just felt like she was overbearing while we were here celebrating our anniversary (which she knew because it was in our reservation). It was hard to feel like we could enjoy the moment as a couple as she was consistently around us making comments and forcing our hand to get what we didn't want. The other people working there were all professional and nice and she looked like she was bossing them around a bit. The escargots were really good, the desserts too (profiteroles and chocolate mousse).. the main dishes were ok (lamb/couscous). Too bad we couldn't get our heads into celebrating because of the constant buzzing and annoyance of this waitress. It was just too much and unprofessional.

We sat outside, table of four and had a great brunch. It was super hot out but we liked being outside. Our waitress and servers were so nice! We really did love them. The hostess was not as friendly but we had little interactions with her. We ordered the French toast with strawberry jam for the table. Highly recommended doing this. It's savory and sweet with butter on the side. The chicken sandwich. VERY GOOD! Crispy chicken with tomato and lettuce. The bun was lightly toasted. Everyone's dish was amazing. (Minor flaw, the bathroom. It was not kept when we were there. They had a plumbing issue which thank god we had already eaten. I wish they put a sign up or closed the one bathroom off. It was a gross sight and made us feel icky.)

Yelp
I am so glad we found this place! We loved their drinks, food, ambience and service. cocktails: 5/5 (I tried basilic and chez moi.. oh they are really delicious) food: 4.5/5, we ordered escargots (it's a must!), french onion soup (highly recommend, so cheesy and sweet), mussels (provencale, it was only average.. lack of flavor), and steak frites (so juicy and tender, perfectly cooked!) service: 5/5 (attentive and friendly) ambience: 5/5

Yelp
Quaint French restaurant with low lighting. Overall food is good. If you are expecting French food that is what you will get coming here. No surprises or experiments, which I think is great. We ordered the Escargots as appetizers. Very delicious, just make sure they give you bread to accompany them to soak up the butter garlic sauce. For entrees, we had the Duck and Bronzini (daily special). Unfortunately the duck was over cooked even though we asked it for medium rare, we get pretty much well done. The sauces were good however. The fish was made excellently in a delicious Saffron broth accompanied by potatoes and greens. Definitely the star of the night. I would certainly return here again and have the Bronzini exactly as served tonight. Seating overall was not very comfortable though. I recommend coming earlier in the night so you can get a good spot with a pillow.

Yelp
Nice place , very intimate , the service is very friendly and attentive I've tried one of their special drinks Pamplemousse. It was good, nothing crazy. The tuna tartar was delicious . And the lamb couscous was a winner! Highly recommend

Yelp
If you ever need a spot to stop into or a cute spot for a date or with friends, Chez Moi is a great choice! The food is delish, the service is friendly, the cocktails are sophisticated but at fair prices and there is a speakeasy in the basement. Be sure to try the duck - they cooked it perfectly medium with an excellent citrus sauce.

Yelp
Sat outside for dinner and had a great meal! We've been for brunch but have been meaning to come back to try dinner and it did not disappoint! We started with the foie gras and escargot. Both were delicious. The escargots were still bubbling when it came to the table. The foie gras with the baguette was decadent and tasty. Had the mussels in white wine and duck with farro for entree. Fries were nice and crunchy. Big portion of mussels but small portion of duck. Both are tasty. For dessert we shared a meringue topped with almonds floating in a milky sauce. Never had this before and happy we got to try it! Overall a great experience for dinner. There were a couple of bugs flying around but nothing to worry about. Recommend getting a reservation if you come on the weekend!

Yelp
We chose this place for Saturday brunch and it was a disappointment. Service is what makes the food taste even better but unfortunately the service sucked. When we specify to the waitress, please replace egg whites with eggs and please put the syrup on the side, those requests were ignored. We started out with their cocktail ChezMoi and it was a disappointment from the start. It maybe had a splash of vodka but it was mostly sparkly water and cassis. I got more of a buzz from my coffee! The food tasted good but the service was just awful. My poor mother was looking forward to her pancakes with bananas and walnuts but only to find she couldn't even eat it since it was drenched in syrup. My mom first asked for honey and the waitress said no only syrup so she said please put it on the side. I told her to tell the waitress but she didn't and just left with soggy pancakes. If you ask for dressing on the side when ordering a salad it's because you don't want the salad drenched and you prefer to dip. My dad ordered the frittata and he also specified not egg whites but whole eggs. Every request we asked for was ignored. Oh and don't forget if you want a nice hot coffee you will get warm coffee since that's how their machine is made. The staff should be trained and know how to interact with people. Needless to say, we will not be coming back to this establishment.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and vibe. Restaurant looks very cute and intimate. Service was good but the food was terrible. I had the risotto and it was made with jasmine rice and was completely tasteless. Jasmine rice?? I mean, if you've run out of the proper rice, just tell me and I'll order something else. My boyfriends octopus was over cooked and served with chickpeas? Sauce also tasteless. Will not return.

Yelp
Food was good. If you want good French food at not TOO pricy bistro; quaint, warm; this place works. It's not your high-end fancy French place but food was very good. We had duck, foie gras, a couple of salads and something else. All quite enjoyable. About the service: waitress could not have been sweeter, but she was inattentive. Multiple times, I had to look around and wave for her and we were the very first patrons that evening. That said, by end of meal, host (maybe the owner?) was refilling our wine glasses for free (boosting my rating back to 4, after thinking 3)

Yelp
This used to be my neighborhood spot when we lived on Clinton and Atlantic. Dollar oysters and strong-as-hell cocktails with comped drinks regularly dished out at the bar. I've never been let down by a dish here. Tuna tar tar, gem salad, skate, burger, steak frites, even the chicken. I just came back for the first time in a while, we now are in Park Slope and the bartenders we knew are likely gone. I got the lamb shank and my friend got the steak frite. Both were quite solid. Cocktails were on point, they make a fantastic Vesper (look it up). Octopus app was probably was the best dish, tender and crunchy with a really nice white broth. This is as good as a neighborhood spot gets, actually it's probably better than that, it was just in our neighborhood :).

Yelp
This is a pretty and romantic restaurant, we came here for a birthday celebration-- but their uncooked mussels have turned our appetite upside down; in fact, so traumatic we may never want to eat mussels again. Finding completely uncooked mussels at the end (we didn't eat the completely closed ones), we ate several opened which we thought were cooked since duh it's opened!: but it turned out a gooey ... THIS IS NOT THE FIRST REVIEWER WITH UNDERCOOKED SHELLFISH. We had food poisoning an hour later walking on Brooklyn bridge: nausea and stomachache to the bathroom. See photos. On the bright side, our waitress was very friendly and the duck dish was great. The lamb is similar to a stew flavor. No employee was wearing a mask, there were sand in the mussels, all which was tolerable BUT for a fancy and expensive restaurant, uncooked seafood is shocking and unacceptable.

Yelp
I came here on Saturday for a special occasion and was excited to try it. The food was good, I had the steak tartare and a side of fries, which were great. We had an outdoor reservation at 8:30, but asked if it'd be possible to sit inside when we arrived as our party was smaller than we thought. They said there would be a 30 minute wait, but we could sit in the speakeasy downstairs, which was totally fine. However, they kept us downstairs for an hour and 20 minutes-- which also would be no problem, I think the restaurant wanted people to fill the space for the 9:30 burlesque show. However, when they finally told us our table was ready and seated us at 9:50, the server was extremely rude and chastising, saying that we had arrived too late and we had to order immediately. None of us had looked at the menu (we didn't have any cell service downstairs) and one person from the group was in the bathroom. I would have understood her frustration if we had shown up and expected to be served at 9:50, but we got there at 8:30. We were all taken aback by how rude she was, especially after we had been pretty cheerful during the very long wait. It was a birthday dinner, so it would have been nice to be able to order a dessert or drinks at the table, but that wasn't possible as the kitchen was closing and our server didn't return to our table except to bring our food. At the end of the night, we were charged $35 on our bill for a burlesque show that we had no idea was even going to happen (on top of our tip to the performer-- luckily one of us happened to have cash). Overall, we left frustrated and disappointed.

Yelp
Chez Moi in Brooklyn is a cozy French bistro serving French classics. We loved the mushroom croquettes, steak frites, and the duck breast. The laid back, yet elegant restaurant is an ideal place for first date or catch-up with friends.

Yelp
On Saturday evening I had a reunion with 2 good friends that I hadn't laid eyes on since well before the pandemic started at Chez Moi. The evening started pleasantly enough. We ate and enjoyed our well-prepared meals. I had one glass of wine, and my companions each had 2 cocktails supplemented with several glasses of water.  We paid our checks when in less than 5 minutes after the waitress had scooped up the signed receipts we were told that the hostess needed us to leave. We weren't being loud or obnoxious because that's not who we are. There seemed to be an archness between my female companion and the waitress; she asked to please have her cocktail brought with her entrée because she wanted to have food ( the appetizer  ) in her stomach before drinking. That, without explaining why, didn't seem to sit well with the waitress. At another point during our meal, my female companion took a moment to pause eating having about 2 or 3 bites left on her plate when no less than 4 people came and asked if she was finished; I didn't understand the rush as the restaurant was less than halfway full, the bar wasn't crowded and the wait staff was huddled by the bar so they weren't being rushed off their feet. So when we were told that the hostess "needed" the table it was mystifying. I'd like to give them a little more credit and not assume that it was the fact that the 3 of us were Black ( 2 tall Black men and 1 petite Black woman ) but we were the only POC in the establishment and none of the other patrons we "rushed" to finish eating and then not only asked to leave when we weren't causing a disturbance and then followed to the door with feigned apologies! My friends were mortified and upset as this was a favourite restaurant of theirs that they frequented and wanted me to experience the gastronomic pleasure they had experienced only to have it marred by this bizarre behaviour. In all my 63 years of living, I have NEVER had such an embarrassing and baseless experience! NEVER! The food was great but not enough for me to return or recommend this establishment to others; who knows what friends or family might experience based on their perceived ethnicities.

Yelp
I live in DC and was hosting a friend from Brazil to a 3-day weekend in NYC. A good friend and long-time Brooklyn resident suggested that the 3 of us brunch at Chez Moi. What a great spot! Very welcoming when we entered, the food was terrific (French Toast, BLT, eggs, etc), the service was excellent. Oh, and good Bloody Mary's. My Brazilian friend and I loved the spot -- and strongly recommend it to others.

Yelp
We've been coming to this restaurant since 2014 at least. One of my favorites in Brooklyn. Location is lovely! Food is delicious, fresh, and there is always great presentation. I like the simplicity and quality of the menu as well. Drinks and desserts are always great! Recently I came for brunch and was blown away by the super simple, but extremely delicious French toast! Wow! I also love the steak tartare, mushroom truffle fritters and the burger! Whoever is the chef now clearly deserves their flowers now!
