Corner pub with traditional Irish decor, food & music plus garden seating & a huge drink list.
"Owned and run by two musicians, one Irish-born, the sounds of live tunes are just as vital as the food and drinks at Chief O’Neill’s, including on Sundays when live traditional Irish music is featured. Additionally, guests can catch live acts several nights a week and also enjoy an elaborate Sunday brunch buffet. In the summer, the large back patio is a lively spot to kick back and relax over a cold beer and some Emerald Isle favorites such as braised pork shank and steak and Guinness pie." - Sam Nelson
"We can usually tell right away whether or not we’re going to have a good time at a dinner party (jumping dogs and Pillsbury tubes are a bad sign). And as soon as we arrived for our first visit at Wherewithall, we knew immediately that it was going to be a great night. This place feels a lot like a fun dinner party - starting with the friendly host and servers, followed by a fantastic $65 four-course (plus some snacks) tasting menu that changes literally every day. Halfway through the meal, we wanted to ask for the recipe to the current and sheep’s milk cheese-topped duck breast, and find out exactly where they get their bread (it’s Middle Brow Bungalow). Most importantly, this restaurant showed us that kalamata olive crumbles make an excellent ice cream topping." - josh barnett, adrian kane
"Chief O’Neill’s in Avondale feels like a classic Chicago bar (meaning full of wood and dim lighting to protect you from the light of day). But there’s also a spacious garden area for outdoor dining, the tables are spaced far apart, and overall it feels very peaceful. Plus they have live music on Sundays in their beer garden. Because drinking and eating corned beef while listening to an Irish folk band is classic Chicago, too." - adrian kane, john ringor
"For a more classic Chicago Irish pub experience head to Chief O’Neill’s. This decades-old neighborhood staple has old wooden church pews, historical photos, and enough Guinness memorabilia to rival an official brewery. There’s even a regal painting of the chief himself hanging above their fireplace—our favorite spot in the restaurant to eat fish and chips or a savory shepherd’s pie with fluffy mashed potatoes. And on Sundays, they also have a massive brunch buffet for just $32 plus live music from 5-8pm, because drinking and eating corned beef while listening to Irish folk music is classic Chicago, too." - john ringor, adrian kane
