Cobarde - Review - Centro - Oaxaca - The Infatuation
"Cobarde means “coward” in Spanish, but their approach to food is anything but timid. With North American and Asian influences, their menu features roasted, fried, and heavily spiced dishes that taste like someone turned up the volume of music in your mouth. A perfect introduction to this fusion is the chicken dumplings served with gochujang and soy sauce, Tuscan-style cheese gnudis, and toasted naan bread topped with beef tongue. Other reasons to keep coming back: You can sit on the terrace and enjoy views of the iconic Santo Domingo temple, or have a sexy date under the low lights at night over a classic martini or miso margarita made with tequila, yuzu, and suma.

"With a primetime terrace that overlooks the Zócalo and across to the cathedral, in a space that oozes style, Chef Pako Cortés is cooking like nobody else. Experience in kitchens from Japan to New York has given him the tools to weave in international flavors with conviction. Meals must begin with toasted naan crowned with beef tongue, capers and yuzu aioli. It is as delicate as it is brilliant. Other dishes are not what they sound like: The salad is unexpectedly addicting, warmed in a tandoor and piled high with bacon, peas and parmesan. The chicken dumpling is actually a deboned and stuffed chicken wing glazed in gochujang. It’s a fun time all-around from start to finish." - Michelin Inspector
I Celebrated Día de los Muertos in Oaxaca, Mexico, Here's How I Planned My Once-in-a-lifetime Trip
"The last night of our trip coincided with the first of the two main nights of the Día de los Muertos celebration, and excitement was building as we gathered at Cobarde Oaxaca, a restaurant that overlooks the city’s zocalo, or main square. From a table on the second-floor terrace we watched passersby on the cobblestones below take pictures of street performers in elaborate costumes. Their backdrop was the floodlit façade of the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán — which, for a few delightful minutes, was even framed by fireworks." - Travel + Leisure Editors
This was the best restaurant we visited in Oaxaca. The food, the cocktails, the service, and the atmosphere all were excellent. We ordered brocoli appetizer, tawa chicken and the fish. Everything tasted top notch. What a pity it was our last evening in the city. We'd like to dine there again. Highly, highly recommend this Michelin guide restaurant. We spent $117 for 1 appetizer, 2 main dishes, 4 cocktails and 1 dessert. This included tips.

Food and staff were amazing. Though the concept was a bit weird. It’s sharing dishes but they recommend to only have one starter and one main dish for three people. This kind of takes away from the sharing dishes advantages. We ended up ordering 2 starters and 2 mains and we didn’t feel like that was too much.

This is a must-visit in Oaxaca! We had an incredible meal here, enjoying the inventive dishes with fresh ingredients. Reviewing the menu, I had initially felt a little uninspired by the descriptions. But then each plate that we ordered came out so gorgeously presented and with sophisticated flavors! The cocktails and dessert were also wonderful. Service is attentive, and there are lovely romantic nooks on the terrace. Did I mention that they serve hot, home-baked naan with each course!?

Amazing service, great menu, nice view to Santo Domingo church. Broccolini was a bit spicy, beef stake a bit too sour, but all the rest was just great. We enjoyed Tawa Chicken anf Pad Thai. Chicken dumplings are not that much of a dumpling, but more like meatballs, but tasted very good. Special compliments to naan bread, it’s a super star of the menu. Bravo to the team, very nice experience.

Great overall experience at the restaurant. The service was excellent and attentive. The food was very good quality and really liked that they have invested in a Tandoor as they make fresh Naan that is accompanied with few dishes. Excellent use of local ingredients and bringing Asian flavors to Oaxaca.

Great choice if what you want is something little bit different. Fusion at its best with a limited menu but with incredible dishes. Good service and marvelous rooftop with great views of the Zocalo.

Absolutely a great experience with the service and food. I started with the chicken pho. Definitely a Mexican/ Asian fusion. I really enjoyed it and would get it again. Next was the tandoori shrimp with fermented lemons. Outstanding flavor profile and presentation. I wouldn't call the tandoori shrimp an entree, though. It's more of a starter in my opinion. It's a must try.
The ambiance here is laid back with good vibes and good music. All the staff were so pleasant. You can sit inside or on the balcony. This will not be my last time here. I highly recommend a visit. You'll be glad you did.

Great hidden spot in the heart of Santo Domingo’s square. You’ll be greeted, guided and explained. The food has ton of flavor and personality. We ordered 3 appetizers that were very satisfyingly filling for 2 adults (Salad, Roasted Cabbage & Ramen). We ended with a dessert that was light and filled with surprising flavors. They know what they’re doing. Seems like they like what they do. You are taking cared of. It has a great ambiance. Don't hesitate on going. Our bill was around $1,200 MX Pesos (3 appetizers, 1 mezcal shot, 1 bottle of sparking water and 1 dessert)
