Let me preface this review by saying that I never order chilquiles from any restaurant. It is a dish that has always been made at home, so I'm used to it being a certain way. Mainly, very spicy and more on the mushy side. The atmosphere is pretty all over the place. Nice clean place. Was very busy. At times they play music very loud, then turn it way down you could barely hear it, then blast it again. The service was also a lil weird. Everybody was very nice. Our server was good but after we ordered we saw her maybe twice after that. Didn't get my water refilled till the end of the meal. Food didn't come out all at once. Different people brought out different dishes so there was a little confusion there. Starter came out last as we were finishing our main. As far as the food, wasn't for me. The pancake was good. The burrito de machaca was probably the most flavorful dish I had. The chilquiles were underwhelming. Not much flavor. And the beans are very watery. By no means was the food bad. It's good Mexican food for the masses. Also a bit on the pricey side. Like I always say, please try it for your self. It was packed for a reason, a lot of people like it. Just wasn't for me. I'd go back to try the torta ahogada tho.

We had a party of 12, made reservations for 830 am, it was already busy but service was excellent! Drinks and meals out in a timely manner, every one was impressed with the menu selection! This visit was a treat! We will go again!

Super tasty Mexican brunch place. Heavy focus on chilaquiles - not really much choice otherwise. Flavors are very authentic, and food is cooked well and comes out fast despite how busy the place is. We particularly loved the appetizer sampler platter (I know, of all things - just give it a try and you'll see). Great kids menu with a large variety of fun options like spiced chocolate milk with chocolate covered marshmallow lollipops. Service is not bad, again, given how busy the place is, although it can feel understaffed at times. This place has always been packed when we've gone. Clearly a local favorite. Highly recommend making a reservation, otherwise expect to wait in line (possibly for a long time).

Edited on 11/06/25: I went in person and omg yassssss best chilaquiles in town and awesome Service as well. Avoid delivery though because the 30 minutes it sits in the container gets them soggy even if you get the “deconstructed”..idk if maybe they didn’t follow this request but just go in person. Pro tip, make a reservation online to avoid long wait. I really want to like this place since they are known for the “best chilaquiles in town”. Overall I wasn’t too impressed. My chilaquiles were soggy, apparently because I got them “constructed” but since I ordered delivery it really was not, they were simply placed in a to go container. It seems silly to charge extra for “deconstructed” version to maintain the crispyness, it should just be common sense to use best judgement when it comes to that. I was confused in regards to why the beans were so watery, am I suppose to drink them? Also they were nasty and tasted like they came from a can, I threw them away. I was initially mostly pleased with the $6 freshly squeezed orange juice but was expecting something extra since they advertise it comes in an “adult cup”. I later found something floating around in there..coulda been mold from not cleaning their squeeze device properly? The flavor of the chilaquiles and carnitas was really good. I have yet yet to experience the “best chilaquiles in town”. Soggy is not it.

Great food, flavorful and tastefully plated. Wide variety of drinks from hot to cold and sweet, theres no going wrong on anything you pick. Would recommend the el Patron plate and the cafesito flight!!

Drove 2 hrs to eat great food! It's delicious!! Really commend the Habanero Chilaquiles con Cochinita Pibil. ❤️ ❤️

This restaurant usually have long waits, we were lucky to go on a weekday and it was not busy at around 10am. The service was good but a little slow for my preference. She was very nice though and explained all the dishes we had questions on. Food tasted delicious and it didn’t take that long, maybe because they were not that busy. The concept of this restaurant is good, a little small but still aesthetically appealing. There’s only one bathroom but it was very clean! Parking is in front of the restaurant I believe and it’s $15 or $20 to park unless you find street parking or public parking. I would definitely be going back!

This Mexican-style food is pretty good. If you like spicy food, I highly recommend it. It's also a very good dessert.

First time here you get walked through this beautiful display of the menu that makes you want to eat everything once you are seated you are greeted by a server to our luck Gladys was kind helpful and patient she made some suggestions agua fresca flight, El Sinaloense and the dessert sampler I got everything she suggested and I was not disappointed my kids and mom loved it here will definitely be coming back thanks Gladys and cosina 35 staff

Third time here, it's been a couple of years. They changed the ordering . You are seated by a host. They still have displays of the food. The waitress was very prompt. She made suggestions- my son and I ordered the chilaquiles ( what they are known for). I ordered the flight of juices and my son ordered horchata. Everything was excellent along with chilaquiles. I highly recommend, the place is very clean and well kept. The staff are very friendly.

Went to this location for the first time on a Saturday, and it was super busy by 9:30 am! i definitely recommend a reservation if you're planning to dine here. the food was absolutely wonderful- the portion sizes were HUGE and very filling. We loved the fresh-squeezed orange juice, and my omelette was delicious. The inside was super cozy and the decorations were lovely. we got a birthday celebration for one of the guests in our party, and i loved how the music went louder & the servers came over to celebrate with a dessert. absolutely, the ONLY downside to the dining experience was while we were waiting for a table. once my name was called, we were waiting for my parents to walk up to us from their parking spot. the host was talking to us while the seater was yelling my name repeatedly, and there wasn't any communication between the two of them. we were told we couldn't be seated until the whole party was there, which i tried to explain to the person calling my name. but the communication between the two of them was just lacking. other than that, everything was wonderful & our server was INCREDIBLE!!

Service was disappointing from the start. We had to ask three times just to get water, and despite reserving an indoor table due to the weather, they initially tried to seat us outside. We ended up waiting an additional 45 minutes to be seated, which was understandable given the holiday, but being asked to sit outside after making a clear reservation was frustrating. On top of it all, the waitress served other parties before us even though we were clearly seated before them. Unbelievable. Food was 5/5 though. Service was the only flaw of that restaurant.

Went for brunch on a Saturday. The chilaquiles were amazing. Always a make a reservation instead of waitlisting. Service was fine. They were slammed busy and were nice. Some components were a little out of order in service. The food and giant plates made up for any minor service challenges.

Ok, stopped in here for brunch. Friends were in town and they wanted to try this spot. Make reservations. This place was really busy. We waited outside for our tables. Once our tables were ready, they led us inside to look at the menu. The menu and plates were on display for you to see, so you knew exactly what you were getting. As you got closer to the register, you order your food and pay. They give you a number and sit you down at your table. We sat outside. We were lucky to sit outside since it was a nice day. The eggs and breakfast was just ok...the horchata and coffee was good though. Overall, ok experience and food.

This place is super vibrant and I love how the interior is well decorated and clean- this is overall a great brunch spot. They have a lot of variety and everything seems made so uniquely and with detail! I got the Chilaquiles Regulares and basically customized it because I asked them to replace the meat with chicken since I don't eat beef or pork. The portion was huge and super filling and the flavor was delicious. I loved how it was creamy and had cotija cheese on it. The tortilla chips were also crunchy and savory- they seem homemade! Normally I hate "upscale Mexican food" places but I'd say this place is worth it, especially if you don't know how to make your own chilaquiles. The line moved quick and the staff was kind. The food came out quick and they also accommodated our huge party of people! I'd come back! All the dishes are at the counter which is super cool and makes it easy to see what you're ordering. But I do think they could do a better job at explaining the differences and substitutions available because their website seems to have a more detailed menu.

If you are in San Diego this is a must! We went on a Sunday and the wait time was only 15-20 minutes so not bad at all. Service was great, food was amazing! Try it, you'll love it! The setting inside was super cute and they have a food display to help you decide what you like from the menu.

I love good chilaquiles and Cocina 35 does it right! I ordered an Al pastor plate, the sweet and savory flavors of the dish, paired with a refreshing agua fresca.. so good! Before you are seated you'll walk past a big window display and you can see the delicious menu items. Nice clean restaurant, restroom decor makes for insta worthy photos :) The vibe here is nice, it wasn't so loud that you had to shout to hear one another. Service was good. The wait was a bit long, but you're able to walk around and check out Liberty Station while you wait for a table. All in all solid place. I'll surely be back!

I wasn't impressed, got the bomba chilaquiles. I'm not great with spice but it was fine. The salsa had a good flavor, but the red onions did not work. The meat was not great. The chips weren't great. Overpriced, nice interior though.

My wife found this restaurant, and while on a trip to San Diego, we decided to try it for breakfast. She ordered the chilaquiles rancheros, and I went for the El Patron, paired with an agua fresca while she enjoyed a milkshake. Safe to say, both the food and drinks were outstanding! The restaurant itself was cozy with a quiet, inviting atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

This location never disappoints, we arrived before the lunch hour rush and were given a table immediately. It's nice to see the food displays as it allows you to see exactly what you are ordering and the portions. We ordered our usual and went to our table. Our food came out relatively fast and everything tasted great. They do have music playing in the background and it's not the same 4 songs on repeat as the other location. Everyone working that day was friendly and in a good mood. This location is rather small so try to avoid the breakfast and lunch hour rushes. This was enough food to be shared by 2 and definitely good portion size for the price.

3.75/4 stars I heard about this place from a friend and as a person who loves chilaquiles, I was excited to try this place out. The interior is really fun and I made a reservation the day of which helped a lot since there was a long line when we arrived. They have the menu laid out in a display case and you order and pay at the same time. While jt was nice to see the food, there was no physical menu to look at and I didn't know the prices until it was put into the register. My friend got the el patron sampler plate and I did the make your own chilaquiles. I did not know that adding an egg and meat (I did machaca) would bump the price of the $18 make your own to $30 and the amount of meat added to the plate was not worth the $6 charge of the addition. My friend enjoyed the sampler plate and was happy with the portion size and though my chilaquiles were good, I really don't think it was worth the $30. The two plates plus tip came out to be $60 which I think is pretty steep for what we got.

We parked across the street and it was perfect waiting in the car for our table instead of waiting under a pop up tent. The food is always good no matter what you order or which location you're at. We live the La Bomba Chilaquiles. And the kids always get the Cajeta Toast. Bathrooms are clean and water comes in a cold carafe. Come down!

This place is the absolute bomb. We wanted to find an eclectic brunch spot to go with friends and I heard about this place but never went in because there was always a long line. This time, we braved the hour and a half wait, shopping at the nearby Liberty Market and checking out the park. Once our names were called, we were seated. The inside is large, and beautiful. The food. Those chilaquiles were the best I've ever had. Their chips do not get soggy and remained crunchy through our meal. I would love to be back here.

After seeing my co-workers visit this place, I decided to give Cocina 35's downtown location a try for the first time. I went in expecting something special, especially since they're known for their chilaquiles, but I found them to be decent. Carnitas chilaquiles: 4/5. The restaurant's setup was interesting. The plates are basically preset, and you choose your combination of chilaquiles, French toast, or other options from a display case. It was a more casual dining experience than I anticipated, which probably speeds up the process and cuts down on the need for waitstaff to take orders. Not a huge fan of the style but I can see how it benefits the company and speed of the food coming out of the kitchen. The staff were very friendly! We initially sat outside, but it got too cold, so they were quick to accommodate us inside. As for the food, we chose a chilaquiles carnitas combo with French toast. The French toast was solid, but overall, I was expecting something a bit more elevated. The beans were the biggest disappointment. There were no beans in it just bean water/soup. With no flavor. Beans: 0/5. Overall it's a decent spot, though I would not go back.

We had the specials, El Patron with Machaca and the Tochomorocho with Carnitas, with creamy habanero salsa. These were both amazing. The only "surprise" was that the additional proteins were $5.95 and $4.95 respectively. This is for 4 ounces of meat which was a generous portion on the chilaquiles. However, this pushed the price to over $50 for two breakfast plates. Not somewhere we could eat every day at these prices. I have to say the food was damn good though! We will definitely go back next time we are in San Diego.

This is still my favorite place to get chilaquiles, I think the flavor is unmatched! My favorite is the la bomba. I notice they are going with smaller meat portions... which is sad to see with how much you're paying. It seems as you are paying mostly for tortilla chips & sauce than meat; since the meat portions are so small. My total was about $27 before tip with a mango tajin drink & an order of la bomba. The horchata looked like straight up milk... all the powder sat at the bottom and you had to constantly mix it.

The food was delicious! I love how it's all presented in front of you, then you select what you want when you order at the counter. My daughter and I split El Sinaloense and we added over easy eggs. The chilaquiles, beans, machaca, and sweet corn tamales were delicious! Well-prepared and generous portions! We really enjoyed our meal and now we know why there is ALWAYS a line outside. The only reason I didn't do 5 full stars is because we were outside I was cold. Maybe add small heaters? Other than that, come eat here. You'll thank me later.

Was super excited to try this place from all the rave reviews and crowd, but wow...people wait in line for this?! Husband got the chicken chilaquiles. Chips were already soggy when they came to the table and the chicken was SO SALTY. I don't know if someone spilled a whole pack of salt accidentally, but it was almost inedible. Do not recommend at all. Mine was 4 folded tortillas, nothing inside, drenched and swimming in sauce with very little chorizo and egg. Edible, but weird dish concept. Definitely glad there was no wait here when we came because I would have been PISSED having to wait for subpar food. I think they do a good job marketing on social media or something.

I wish this place was all hype so I can avoid waiting in the line, but the food was worth it!! It truly was the best chilaquiles in town, and I'm willing to drive from OC into SD and wait in that weekend line just to indulge. The portions are fantastic, and inside decor is super cute. Only note for those who aren't into frijoles, it's mixed with the sauce at the bottom of the chilaquiles stack. I'm not generally into them, but I also didn't mind it too much during my meal- which is a surprisingly compliment to this restaurant bc I'm a "double rice, no beans" type of gal.

Everything here was amazing. The service was fast, the food was amazing ! My husband and I both got el patron and we got our daughter a kids pancake platter. Music was also great. Overall 10/10

I came to eat with a friend and we both ordered al pastor chilaquiles, i also ordered deconstructed al pastor chilaquiles to go for my boyfriend. The food was cold when they brought out my plate and when they got my friend's plate wrong even tho we ordered the exact same thing. My friends asked for water and the lady brought us a self serving jug of water and when my friend poured the water into the glass there was a gnat in water. Not sure if it came from the ice or if it was already in the water but either way, pretty gross. Once my boyfriend opened up the bag that the food came in to heat it up he realize that the deconstructed chilaquiles came with no tortillas and by the time we realized it was missing, cocina 35 was already closed. Pretty disappointed with my experience here and will not be dining here again.

-Food : The food was delicious. However my husband only got 1/2 a portion(buff man needs a whole meal). -Drinks : They didn't have either drink that we wanted on the menu. We ended up getting a cup of water. And I literally mean one cup. We were never offered or given a refill at any point during our meal. -Service : If you're brown and don't speak Spanish, watch out. I spoke to my waiter in English, she decided to only respond to me in Spanish. I tried disregarding it, but then I heard her speak to the people next to us in English... Disappointed. If you wanna have a good experience, just go to the one in liberty station! They provide great service and you have more space to move around. The one downtown is very cramped.

A friend really wanted to go here so we did just to give it another chance after last time. Now you order food from your table, before you walked through the food display, the food quantity is smaller and the prices are higher. But the worse part, the food quality has decreased significantly. I definitely have no reason to go back or recommend this place. It's sad to see what was once a great place with generous dishes and quality food come to its demise.

I like how they have displays near the register for you to visualize what each plate looks like! It helps to make the decision making slightly easier. What you see on the display is what you get-- and the portions are huge! We ordered the el patron sampler that comes with your choice of chilaquiles (we chose al pastor), beans, 2 eggs and cajeta toast and the omelet de la casa with chorizo. I was surprised by the beans, because I've never had beans that were liquidy. (They were alright) Overall, the food as good and i would definitely come back again if i am craving chilaquiles.

Cocina 35 is my favorite place to get chilaquiles in San Diego, so when I have a craving for chilaquiles, I go here. The food is kind of pricey so I don't come here often. I believe our bill was over $50 for two people. But when I do come here, it's so worth it. I've been to this Downtown location and the one in Liberty Station. The downtown one gives more of a homey feeling, while the Liberty station one gives more of a brunch party vibe. I got seated within 10 minutes at the Downtown location on a Saturday around noon. At the Liberty Station location, I've had to wait 45 mins to an hour to get seated. Both are consistent when it comes to the food. At this location, you check in with the host and they give you a table number, then you stand in a line to order with the cashier and tell them your table number, then you get can sit and they bring your food to your table. At the Liberty Station location, you get seated then a waiter takes your order at your table. I ordered the Los Rancheros chilaquiles with an over medium egg. The flavor and textures were on point. My friend ordered the El Tochomorocho, and I believe he got to pick the protein and the sauce. The bottled salsa is so tasty, I almost wanted to take the little bottle home. We also ordered a chocolate milk to share, which was super sweet but delicious! The chilaquiles portion is huge, so I took half to go. Later I added rotisserie chicken, and would have added a fried egg and avocado if I had that.

Great chilaquiles dishes. Loved the pastor with pineapple. I highly recommend getting it with eggs, as that can cool the dish a little. The salsa isn't super hot, it is like a slow burn. The dishes are probably large enough to share. The staff is attentive and helpful especially if you've never been. They'll give you a table and you order like a cafeteria style. There's physical representations of what the dishes look like to help you decide. It's got a lot of energy in the room and could be loud. The parking can be crazy, so plan ahead. If you come at the wrong time, expect a waits

If only I could give this RUDE establishment ZERO stars!!!!!I had a reservation here to celebrate my birthday and it stated " running late give us a call" which my boyfriend did and the female who answered the phone immediately said " nothing we can do" and hung up! My boyfriend didn't even get a chance to speak. That is poor customer service and completely rude. I am glad I didn't waste my money here and went to Gaslamp Breakfast Company instead. The food was delicious and service was delightful.

I really liked my plate, full of different flavors. However, we originally went to the Dewey location which is such beautiful location, and our wait time was 2 1/2 hours. Yikes!!!! So we came to the original location, in downtown and yes much better wait 45 minutes. So, yes! Regardless which one you go be prepared to wait during the weekend. I was happy with my plate La Bomba, they highly also recommended the enfrijoladas so we ordered them... that particular plate is not something I would get again!

Cocina 35 is a visually appealing restaurant with amazing food. I was greeted by many staff members and they all had great energy. They have their menu items displayed and you pay at the register. I have a horrible memory and take a long time to decide what I want so this made me feel a little bit pressured. I got the El Patron plate so I could try the French toast and Chilaquiles. They were both delicious but honestly I would just stick to one or the other. My palate was confused going from the caramel sauced French toast to the super savory roja chilaquiles. I think I would choose the Chilaquiles over the French toast. Plus there was soooo many different types of sauce and meats to choose from. Also I loved the Guava Agua Frescas! My nephew loved his Horchata. I would say this is a good place to visit if in downtown San Diego!

When planning a friends trip to San Diego, every Tiktok talking about San Diego told me to go to Cocina 35. I would tell it would be a good experience right as I pulled up as there was a long line of people waiting, but being a viral place, it wasn't surprising. My friends and I checked in on Yelp and then took a stroll until our table was ready. I loved how they had sample dishes on display so you knew what your food would look like, and it's always convenient when you can pay ahead of time and just enjoy your food. This was my first time having chilaquiles and I ordered the Al Pastor. The portion was definitely bigger than I thought it'd be! The meat was sweet and juicy, just how al pastor should be. I also enjoyed the texture of the chips as they didn't really get soggy even with all the toppings and sauce. I would say Cocina 35 is worth all the hype!

Visited Cocina 35 for brunch and I must say, I was impressed! Their food selection is wide and everything we tried was just delicious! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating; and since we visited during summer; we opted for outdoor for a cute little brunch date, and we cannot wait to come back! The service was also amazing. Would absolutely recommend!

Came early on a Sunday. We were immediately seated and able to join the line to order food. They have all of the dishes in a glass case so you can see exactly what you're getting as you wait to order. Food came quickly after we ordered and looked delicious. Everything was hot a tasted fresh. Great flavor and authentic recipes. The fresh salsa on the table was amazing and the chilorio was seasoned perfectly. Finished with a side of some of the best churros I've ever had. Perfectly crisp, but the inside melts in your mouth. The included dipping sauce paired well. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a great breakfast spot, I hope to return as there's many more dishes I'd like to try.

The food was really good. We got the orange juice which tasted fresh and the build your own chilaquiles, I'd suggest going for the spicier sauce for a bit more flavor. The tamales were so delicious that I had to order 2 more!

I now understand why this place has been voted the best chilaquiles. The food was absolutely amazing every bite kept me wanting more. The wait was around 40 minutes but that's because it was busy full house when we arrived all the way until we left. For the preset plates in the displays on the upper level you are not allowed to make any changes, which is why they offer a build your own option if you would like to change some aspect of the dish. There is an up charge for meat and eggs, the meat charge is understandable but an additional 3.75 for eggs that most places already have included is interesting. I would still recommend this place the food is just so good.

Pretty good Mexican brunch spot in Downtown San Diego. Self proclaimed as best Chilaquiles in San Diego - I stopped by to have exactly that. Chilaquiles and tortilla soup...both were pretty good!! Restaurant is organized like cafeteria style where you order at the counter. To add to experience dishes are displayed in window. It does help with dish selection, but to some people is a turn down! I liked it... What I didn't like is that silverware is in the bin at your table for everyone to touch... Word of caution: this place gets super busy on weekends...so come early or late in a day

Came here for brunch on a Saturday and even though they do not take reservations, surprisingly we didn't wait for very long for a table. They offer coffee and water while you're waiting, which I really appreciated. The decor is cute, and the counter service means that you place your order quickly and the food comes out quickly. A good variety of menu items, although there's only 1 vegetarian salsa for chilaquiles (and not sure if that is vegan). When you order, you walk past the display case of all the food and drink options. I was bummed to see their pastries wrapped in plastic and would have been more tempted to get one if they were freshly made. I don't love that the prices are not visible until you actually order - I didn't realize that proteins were an extra charge. I got the tochomorocho sampler plate, and the chilaquiles and tamal were delicious. The huevos ranchers were a little dry and I asked for over easy eggs but got ones that still had runny whites. But the salsa at the tables was delicious! The agua frescas were also really refreshing. I may check out the Liberty Station location next time as this one doesn't serve alcohol.

Oh man what a surprise!!! Kool thing is they have all the plates on display in the counter..so you can see what it looks like besides the menu narrative. This made the whole experience worth it in this comfy place. Because of these displays the order was: A Sinaloense Verde Enfrijoladas con Huevo. Both plates were so BOMB didn't even have time to take pix. But, the portion size was good enough to have breaky the next day at home leftovers style!!! If you didn't know, NOW you know...

If you love chilaquiles for breakfast like I do, my god this is the breakfast spot for you!! I ordered a beautiful chilaquiles platters with sunny side up egg and a sweet corn tamale and I've never tasted such freshness and aesthetic in a plate like from this place. The service is relatively quick since you look at what you want and you just order so the ladies here are very friendly. Very nice quiet ambiance but the theme is very Latin and look like it's run by and owned by ladies! If you're in town check them out you won't regret it!!
