NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"In the old Calle Ocho space on the Upper West Side, Columns is a Mediterranean wine bar with marble accents and at least one actual column in the room. The menu highlights wines from Spain, Greece and Italy, as well as a few from New York and New Jersey, and cocktails include things like The Olive Leaf, which twists gin with olive leaf liqueur and mastiha. There's a short food menu too, with things like patatas bravas and a "pick three" bruschetta board option." - will hartman, bryan kim

This new wine bar that just opened up in the area is absolutely stunning! We really needed a place like this around here. The space is spacious and beautifully designed, creating a welcoming atmosphere. They offer a great selection of wines, and the small bites are served well—though they’re almost more than just a bite, which is a nice surprise! I really loved the service and the overall ambiance, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy some quality wine.

This was needed in the neighborhood. We are such a dead zone for higher quality dining. As of now, it’s quiet. An excellent mid week date spot that’s not chaotic and super chill. Service was spotty but I can only assume its newness is still a challenge to staff. The bites are solid. Ditto the adult beverages. The wine menu has yet to be explored but looks promising. Hoping their backyard will be equally impressive when it gets warmer. But most of all, I hope this cliques and stays the course with the stiffs in our neighborhood because I love & need options that’s walkable, Karen.

This restaurant/wine bar is spacious, bar is a decent size, there are many tables. There are large windows. You don’t feel cramped. It was somewhat busy on a Thursday night, but it wasn’t too loud - easy to carry out a conversation. Even if you don’t drink it is worth to come in for the food (especially if you are a vegetarian/pescatarian). All the dishes were elevated and worth their price. And the sommelier John is extremely knowledgeable. He actually has a degree in Enology and worked at the vineyards in New Zealand and Europe! My favorite wine was Lebanese red wine - very smooth and velvety. For the nourishment I tried marinated olives and bruschetta board. Excellent place!

Went twice this week - once for drinks & nibbles and once for brunch. Loved it!! The brunch griddle cakes were delicious. Excellent wine & cocktail selection. Many gluten free (celiac safe) options. Nice vibes, nice staff. It’s my new favorite uptown place. Will return. Highly recommend.

Google
Almost a five star!! Will definitely return. Just not perfectly satisfied with the food. The waiter was so kind when we notified them a dish wasn’t great. The arancini and bruschetta are where it’s at though!!! And the Reisling was amazing.

Wonderful new restaurant in the neighborhood. Even though the space is large, it feels warm and inviting inside. The small plates served are delicious and filling - highly recommend the branzino, arancini (gluten free), crispy brussel sprouts, and bruschetta with brie and applebutter (it's to die for and can be made gluten free)! Their newer addition of weekend brunch has some wonderful gluten free options, too - highly recommend the buckwheat pancakes, and a side of the latkes with my all-time favorite spread, applebutter! They serve an expansive variety of wines as well as delicious cocktails and zero proof drink options. Very helpful and attentive bartender and servers.

Fresh take on Mediterranean fare on the upper west side. The bar is spacious and the resident mixologist, Temo, is a proper delight. The drinks are inventive, the food is delicious (I recommend the tuna crudo, the hamachi—not pictured—and the pistachio pesto gnocchi).

Came in with my boyfriend last night without a reservation. It was packed, and we ended up at the bar — which turned out to be the best place to be. The bartender was calm, kind, and incredibly attentive, even under pressure. He suggested a black truffle martini instead of my usual dirty vodka. It was unexpected and absolutely perfect. We’ll definitely be back — and asking for a seat at the bar.

Yelp
So happy that Columns has opened up in the neighborhood. The restaurant is pretty big! Beautifully decorated. The staff were kind and the service was attentive. They have a great selection of food, wine, beer and cocktails. I love their toast boards. I had the Dragoncello Fizz drink and it was very strong!! Also served in a huge glass so beware lol I'll definitely go back and really love the fact that we have a nice wine bar in the neighborhood

Yelp
Beautiful venue, thd aesthetic feels like a bar in West Village. The seating and table were stunning as well. It was a delight seeing this establishment amongst all the construction and vacant spots in Manhattan Valley. Staff was amazing the whole experience as well. Issues I had was the AC was not operating on one of the hottest days in spring. I ordered a wine flight which I thought was fine and the table next to be had a noticeable larger pour on their flight. I will give it another attempt because I find it to be a very charming space.

Yelp
Tldr: overpriced, food not bad, terrible service The restaurant has a nice ambiance, I have to give it that, but beyond that, it was one of the more disappointing dining experiences I've had. We sat down and were not served water or talked to by a waiter until we flagged someone down. We ordered a number of items, and the first couple came with fairly long wait times between each dish (isn't tapas style supposed to arrive all at once?) After three dishes, our waiter came by and asked if we were good on food and if we'd like to close out. We told him we were still waiting on 3 more plates and he seemed surprised to hear that. Finally, two more plates came and after picking at the tiny portions, another 20 minutes passed without our crudo. We again had to flag down our waiter and asked about our last dish ("oh, the Brussels sprouts?" he said). We ended up just cancelling it, because clearly it'd been forgotten and no one was making it in the kitchen. Tbh I was confused because it seemed like our entire table had been forgotten somehow. The food itself was not bad, quite creative. Honestly a shame that the service is unable to deliver this food out to customers in a timely fashion. However, the portions were very small and I left hungry. After spending $50 pp on a meal, I'd hope to not leave hungry. I don't usually write reviews like this, but this was just an egregious lack of service and frankly a waste of time and money.

Yelp
Beautiful wine bar in the area. Stopped here for dinner I grabbed a seat in the front which offered indoor/outdoor access as it the doors fully open. I tried a variety of things but my favorite was the Moroccan flatbread and the rice pudding. I did like that they had delicious mocktails for the non drinkers like myself

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance and delicious food! We came for brunch on a Saturday. The omelette was great as was the French toast. It's a bit pricy, but worth it for an occasional brunch spot!

Yelp
my new favorite bar on the UWS. near columbia and the train station, this place really brightens up the neighborhood. with a refreshing cocktail list, it is difficult to decide which one to pick. my friend and i both got one of the spritzes but next time i want to try the permission drink and the good food as well! the staff was very nice and attentive. and the restaurant was lovely and updated. i didn't really like the QR code scanning thing to pay bc it made me download another app which i didn't think was necessarily

Yelp
The best latke we have ever had. And we are gluten free. I had the fried fish sandwich and it was fabulous.

Yelp
Very inviting ambiance, that bar is a beaut! The hostess was so warm and welcoming as were the rest of the staff, really great service. The food was delicous, that gnocchi.. to die for. The crudo was fresh and vibrant the wines were good. ( if you guys happen to add a Txakolina to the mix you wont get rid of me). Thanks Columns for a great evening and I'll probably see you next week! Cheers!

Yelp
"Over-Priced and Not Very Good" This is a newly opened wine bar and Mediterranean restaurant on the upper west side. We were a party of five and we had reservations. We were seated around two small round tables instead of one table. This made for uncomfortable seating. After taking our order we waited a fairly long time for one appetizer and one entree to come to the table. Then 15-20 minutes later another entree came to the table. We finally all got served after waiting another 10 minutes or so. We complained to the manager and he apologized (but no explanation). Now the food: The fish sandwich was tasteless and the fish was not fresh. Someone ordered a Spanish baked egg dish and said it was good. I won't be back.

Yelp
A new wine bar in the neighborhood with great food. My husband and I sat at the bar and had cocktails, wine, food and a dessert drink. Timo was behind the bar and was much more than a bartender - he made exquisite beverages, perfect pairing suggestions and a delight. We are so happy to have this addition and will be back often!

Yelp
Very nice wine bar. Lit for intimacy. Good food, cocktails and wine. Nice place to feel civilized.

Yelp
Lovely new spot in the neighborhood with great vibes. Great selection of interesting cocktails & wines. Apparently they're expanding with more oranges & pet nats which is exciting. Good food. Lots of GF & celiac-safe options - everything except the flatbread either is or can be GF. Dedicated frier for GF. We wanted the GF bruschetta to be bigger (it was about 1/4 of the size of gluten bruschetta) but it was very tasty nonetheless. Service was friendly. Will return. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The wine selection was amazing, and the hostess was really kind and helpful even though we had no reservation. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and immediately overheard the bartender yelling at the group next to us to hurry up because he was busy. This happened a handful of times over the next hour to other groups as well, even though it wasn't even a full bar/restaurant. Very odd!
