The Best Restaurants & Bars In Rockaway Beach & Jacob Riis Park - New York - The Infatuation

"Connolly’s is an Irish dive just half a block from the beach. Virtually everyone who comes here will order the iconic Rockaway beverage that is their frozen piña colada ($10, with the option to add a spiced-rum floater for another $2), and so should you. Garnished with a radioactive-red maraschino cherry and served in a paper cup, this thing is creamy and dangerous. Also dangerous: The knowledge that Connolly’s opens at noon. You can tan on the patio, or adjourn to the charmingly dank basement and watch episodes of Baywatch." - willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, neha talreja

14 Frozen Cocktails That Are Worth The Brain Freeze - New York - The Infatuation

"Connolly’s, an Irish pub in the Rockaways, is most famous for their frozen piña coladas. A standard will run you $10, but you’ll want to upgrade it with a $2 floater of spiced rum, or maybe a "sinker" (rum poured on the bottom of your drink) or a "swimmer" (a layer of rum in the middle). Choose your own adventure. (Maybe get all three.)" - will hartman, sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore

The Best Restaurants at Rockway Beach | Eater NY

"When it was reported that Connolly’s was sold to new owners, panic ensued. The longtime pub had been open since 1962, and seemingly everyone wanted to know: What would happen to its legendary frozen drinks? Fear not: The owners of a local surf school took over the bar — and have the original recipe for its popular pina colada, garnished with a maraschino cherry." - Eater Staff

Sasha and Ronan really made our evening a spectacular one. The service was great, the ambiance was casual and homey. The dim lighting maybe hiding a lot more than it seems, as the whole place needs a bit of a cleaning, and there was a funky smell as you sat at the bar. The food was not bad, I enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie the best. The Bangers were over cooked, fried to an almost burnt and dried out texture, and the mashed potatoes served with it, were under seasoned, however, I enjoyed the sauce & onions. The Fish & Chips were not the best I've had, the batter itself was heavy, and it was a bit burnt as well. I figure the kitchen was trying to close, and they wanted to kick the orders out quickly, thus some of our dishes were burnt. Drinks were good here!

Overall, solid experience but nothing to call home for. Standard pub with the conventional selections, exactly what you’d expect. Went on a Saturday after 5pm and was seated promptly for four people. Most of the tables were packed by that point so we lucked out. Food: Not a huge menu but they have what you’d expect: fish and chips, sheppard’s pie, chicken pot pie, burgers, corn beef, etc. We got nachos to start, and mains: the Reuben sandwich, fish and chips, and turkey burger. All were fine- not the best and not the worst. Prices were a bit high for the quality, but you’d expect as much in Times Square area. Drinks: The noticeable difference is that they have over 40 beers on tap. We got the Connolly’s Red Ales and they were pretty good. Service: Pretty good for a packed house. Prompt to sit, drinks came within reasonable time, food came fairly short after too. Atmosphere: Exactly what you’d expect for an Irish pub. They have funky door handles so that was an interesting difference.

If you’re looking for a true taste of Ireland in the heart of NYC, Connolly’s Pub is it. We stopped in for a traditional Irish breakfast and left feeling like we had just visited friends in Dublin. The breakfast was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked eggs, hearty sausages, crispy bacon, tomatoes, and beans, all washed down with a perfectly poured pint of Guinness. What really made the experience unforgettable was Barry, the owner. He welcomed us like old friends, shared stories, and even gave us a little tour of his beautiful hotel next door. The tartan seat covers, Irish décor, and cozy atmosphere brought me right back to my honeymoon in Ireland — a place that still feels like home to me. I even fell in love with the coffee mugs… and brought a couple home! ☕ If you want warm hospitality, delicious food, and a genuine Irish experience without leaving New York, Connolly’s Pub is a must.

Great pub, super friendly staff, great beer and whiskey selection, what else could you ask for? Came in on a Friday late afternoon and the upstairs bar was nice and quiet. Had great conversation and ended up staying for a couple more beers than we intended because we were relaxed and enjoying the atmosphere.

This was our second time at Connolly’s and it was just as good as the first. Our niece met us here, and she arrived first. Got a comfortable booth with excellent wait staff! Food was good and plentiful. Niece and Husband had the Irish stew, and I had the Chicken Cheese Quesadilla. We left food behind because we were full & had no safe way to bring leftovers to our hotels for tomorrow’s snack. The place is beautiful, warm & comfortable. We didn’t feel rushed at all. We’ll definitely be back!

This is a really cool spot. It is aesthetically pleasing and exciting to see. They have draft handles as faucets in bathroom and kegs as a sink - that IS really cool and creative. The staff was welcoming and everyone went above and beyond. The serve was kind, professional, efficient and he and the rest of the servers and bussers continually checked on us and other tables. They work as a team. The ambiance is lovely. They okay music but we went during a championship game so game was playing which was the reason for us going in the first place. TVs everywhere. The prices are reasonable. There is a great selection of menu items and plenty of Irish dishes. We ordered the spicy wings, pot pie and fries. The fries are amazing! Nice and airy and crispy and cooked to perfection. The pot pie was good but I personally like a more chicken knorr or poultry seasoning flavoring which I felt lacked. Overall just okay for my liking. The fried were good. Fresh and piping hot. Great place just off time square (one block) wit a great vibe. We settled on their roof top bar that’s closed off with AC but there’s an outdoor are for smokers. I highly recommend this place.

Google
A great place to book your live show. John, the sound professional, is terrific to work with and knows his business. Decent back line, the audience was very happy with the mix, and we as the presenters had a terrific time. Thank you everyone on staff for making our showcase wonderful.

Google
We had dinner at Connolly’s near Times Square today as a family of five. I had reserved a table in advance, though the restaurant was only moderately busy when we arrived. We ordered Fish & Chips, three Gaelic Burgers, and a chicken dish for our youngest. The food was okay — I’d rate it as average at best. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. The staff was inattentive and borderline unfriendly. We had to ask multiple times for drinks we had already ordered. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, making it impossible to reflect the poor service with the tip. We’ve been traveling in the U.S. for 12 days now, and this was by far the weakest service experience we’ve had. If you’re looking for better options near Times Square, I highly recommend Brooklyn Diner or Friedman’s — both miles ahead in terms of quality and hospitality.

Yelp
Our family of 4 had a mixed experience at Connolly's Pub & Restaurant (45th Street location). Service was tolerable (decent by midtown Manhattan standards) and everyone except me found their food "edible." I was looking forward to Connolly's Corned Beef Reuben Sandwich which was described in the menu as "Open-faced corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing, rye. This was a major disappointment. The corned beef was OK but they left out most of the sauerkraut and dressing. I don't think I've ever tried to eat a drier corned beef Reuben sandwich! Despite my major disappointment with the Reuben sandwich, I decided to join my kids and take a chance with the dessert menu. This choice paid off. I rated their cheesecake as 4 out 5 s.

Yelp
Surprised at how good the burgers were! Get them medium rare and you'll enjoy the juiciness of a solid patty. I went with the daily special of wagyu blend Guinness infused patty with Guinness onions and cheese and wow was that good! I hate the slightest taste of beer, so I was very happy with how this turned out--all flavor, no weird after tastes at all. Sweet potato fries were better than regular fries. All fires aren't greasy/salty, so I was happy not to feel heavy after a late dinner. There are multiple floors in this massive establishment. If you're looking for a dinner spot, do first floor--it's the least loud/rowdy option. The higher you go, the rowdier the vibe gets. The rooftop get super packed and busy and insanely loud. Staff--depending on the mood of each person, you might get lucky, or not so much.

Yelp
What a great spot to help celebrate St. Patrick's Day! The place was PACKED (obviously) but my group managed to get a table relatively quickly. The host stand was definitely disorganized but once we got seated, the service was great and the food came out quickly. The curry fries were good, but I could've had a bit more of the curry flavor in the sauce. The fish and chips were above average for what I've had in the US and were crispy!

Yelp
Fun Irish pub to spend time after the St. Patricks day parade. Be prepared , it gets very crowded but the staff professionally handles the crowd with grace. They have the typical Irish fanfare food that would be expected at an Irish Pub. I had the good ole' Corned beef and cabbage. The Corned beef was a little dry but quite a portion. The potatoes and carrots were pure perfection. Connolly's has a vast selection of beer . If you are looking for an Irish beer to try I suggest Smithwicks. It's a satisfying red ale. Connolly's also has Allagash - the beer that compliments any meal! Fun place to have a beer , burger and to celebrate life!

Yelp
My daughter really wanted an Irish breakfast. So, we came to Connolly's for brunch. I got the banana walnut pancakes, she got the Irish breakfast and my friend got a chicken Panini. The food was pretty good. My pancakes, which were regular pancakes topped with a scoop of strawberry butter, some honey roasted walnuts (did not seem like it was done in House) and some sliced banana. On the menu said it was served with maple syrup. It did not come with syrup at all. I had to flag the waitress down to try to get some. It did not taste like it was fresh maple syrup. It tasted like "Log Cabin" or something like that. There was a party going on outside. There wasn't really anybody else inside except for us. Then another party might've shown up and we're hanging out by the bar. Our waitress was really not around to help us in anyway. I definitely would not come back for brunch here.

Yelp
This is such a solid pre-theatre dinner spot! I love the look and feel of Connolly's - such a very nice pub. I love that I never need to wait for a table. The food is always quick and good. The servers usually understand that you're setting a show so they try and get you moving along without pushing you out the door. A great pre-show spot indeed!

Yelp
These meals deliver pleasure that lasts long after eating. The employees show favoritism in their interactions yet reliably meet expectations. I came across something exceptional. Every mouthful here provides balanced flavors that simply amaze. Every detail here works for me and I'll become a frequent guest !

Yelp
Was in NYC on my day off and stumbled upon this Irish pub/restaurant and since it was lunch time figured id give it a shot. I was greeted and seated within a couple of minutes. The atmosphere is warm and inviting The menu is a mix of traditional American food and beers as well as Irish classic food such as shepherds pie , Irish breakfast sausage , and bangers and mash (which is what I ordered). The server I had had an Irish accent which added to the overall feel of the restaurant. I also had the Connollys Irish Red house beer. The Bangers and mash were exceptional and cooked the perfection. The potatoes were light and airy and the bangers were nice a juicy. I don't have Irish food often but when I do I try to find a place that is as close to authentic as I can find. I will definitely be back when I come to the city again Gave 4 stars because the men's bathroom on the first floor is very tiny hard to move in

Yelp
Great Irish pub right near Times Square. Typical Irish pub fare with a warm dark wood interior. Only stopped in for a few pints with a bunch of the Irish fans of the Mayo Ireland GAA football team who had traveled to the US to support the team in their match with New York. Great vibe! Good fun!

Yelp
Pre-theater meal was really good. We were there about 5pm and the place was not crowded. Then it was. Typical bar ambiance with a couple of standouts like bathrooms with sliding barn doors. So cool! Food was really good! 4 of us had Shepherd's Pie, soft Pretzels, and the best corned beef Reuben. We liked it so much, we came back after Gypsy and had drinks and apps in the enclosed rooftop. This girl, who's usually in bed by 9pm, was out till 3am. I highly recommend Connoly's

CrisKylie A.

Yelp
We both went there on a Friday evening, the rooftop was amazing along with the Fish and chips!! Will def recommend going here again to grab a beer and enjoy the ambiance.

Yelp
Ended up here when we couldn't get into our planned restaurant due to capacity issues. A typical pub- food was fine but nothing special. Ambiance as well. Servers were very nice though.
google avatar

Amit P.

Yelp
Classic Irish pub in the heart of Manhattan. If they take their Guinness pouring seriously, you know it's legit! I would like to return to try some food- the people sitting next to us raved about the shepherds pie and fish & chips, so if you're hungry I would try those two dishes! The 4th floor has a rooftop, I didn't have a chance to go but heard it's nice! Great service, friendly staff, and great beer selection!

Yelp
I cannot comment on the drinks. I cannot really comment on the ambiance. What I can comment on is the service and our meal that afternoon and the service. Their chili stuffed potato skin was filling, comforting, and so good! It's a meal in itself, but it served as our appetizer. I don't see it on the menu anymore. I ordered their Harp Beer Battered Fish and Chips while he ordered the Guiness Grilled Rib Steak. Their fries were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The fish wasn't greasy. They were huge pieces of fish fried perfectly. It paired so well w/ the coleslaw and the tanginess from the tartar sauce. The leftovers did create a bit of grease, but it was to be expected. I still enjoyed it that night! I was thirsty and must have had 4 Diet Coke refills. Our server was quick and checked on us a few times. I really appreciate the fact that I did not have to ask for a refill of my soda. I wasn't so sure about the steak, but he finished it and said it was good. Mmmm, I'm thinking about the fish and chips and potato skins right now!

Yelp
If you find yourself in the mid-town area and looking for a bite to eat that's not one of the big chain restaurants in Times Square, this place is absolutely worth the visit. Service was good... and quick! Food was tasty! I loved the atmosphere. Prices were incredibly reasonable considering the area. For appetizers we ordered the soft pretzels and beer cheese.... Those were very good! For my entree I ordered the chicken pot pie. It was probably the best chicken pot pie I've ever had! Highly recommend!! If you're looking for a great place to grab a meal, I can't recommend this place enough!
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a quick and easy experience. Managed to grab a seat during the lunch rush and the waitstaff was super quick to take our order! The ambiance is typical of a British pub and the staff were efficient. Ordered the bangers and mash and they were ok. Unlike traditional british bangers with dense and flavorful sausages, I found these bangers to be heavily processed and not too fresh...bummer. Portions were gigantic and was perfect for sharing. The volume of mashed potatoes may have been suitable for a family of 4...

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite before seeing a show at Radio City. Pretty good restaurant with irish pub fare. Service was quick which was crucial as we were on a time crunch. The applewood chicken sandwich was hit the spot. They have a bar downstairs and a larger dining room upstairs.
google avatar

Yelp
We ate at here on the first night of our trip to NYC, and as the last meal before we left. We were seated immediately and the food was tasty. We had burgers and fries, both were phenomenal. The atmosphere was homey, very casual- just what we wanted and needed! Convenient to our hotel. Would definitely eat here again!

John Z.

Yelp
Good place to get a pint of Guinness Fish and chips good but not great. Loud by midwestern standards but probable average for NYC.
google avatar

Rodney B.

Yelp
I've never ordered food here but I was here on a Saturday night and Sunday night enjoying some Guinness with some friends late night around 0300 and the place seems to be a local spot for New Yorkers. The staff was nice and kitchen closes around 11p. It's a great meetup spot and plenty of seats available. A very happening pub and great for conversations and music.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Had dinner here twice as it was close to the hotel. The first night I got the Irish beef stew and it was hearty, warm, and fulfilling. I didn't know how huge of a portion it was and wish they would've sold it in a cup like the other soups ($20+). The server, however, didn't pay much attention to me and I had to end up going to the front to get my check taken care of. The second night, there were several corporate parties going on and the only table available for the 7 of us was a table near the door in the loud bar. I got the fish tacos this time (came with 3) and still was very tasty. If you can, get a table up on the 4th floor 2023 #111

Dennis O.

Yelp
1. Waiter was most unfriendly, initially greeting us with "you drinking anything?" Stared at my empty iced tea glass twice, ignoring it. 2. The worst "Reuben" sandwich I have ever had. (a) menu stated "open face", it wasn't; (b) there might have been 12 strands of sauerkraut, but no more; (c) there was no evidence of any dressing, it was incredibly dry, I ended up pulling out the corned beef to just eat it. (I see their online menu it doesn't appear...they should remove it from the printed one too.)

Leslie V.

Yelp
Only okay. My shepard's pie was mostly rather bland mashed potatoes. My friend had beef stew which she said was okay. We asked for rolls or bread and were offered crackers?
google avatar

Alyssa J.

Yelp
I went here for a midday lunch break with a friend and it was delicious! We sat on the second floor since it was slightly cooler than the bottom floor on an 80 degree day. Service was quick which we appreciated since we had a time limit. It's a nice pub atmosphere for a quick escape from midtown crowds. And it didn't hurt that the food was sooo good. I got the Godzilla Burger from the specials menu. It was cooked medium well to my liking, and the mushrooms and avocado added great taste. My friend had the Shepard's pie and enjoyed it...the presentation was great too!

Yelp
Came here during a visit to nyc with my kids. This restaurant was right next to our hotel. Rooftop restaurant was decent but it's just a bar overlooking the street. Service was poor. Took forever to get help and check etc. server told us that fried were included with my daughters chicken tenders but was charged eight dollars a piece for them. Spoke to manager about getting bill etc and she didn't help at all. Don't come here. Tons of other places to choose from in the area.

J R.

Yelp
Let me start off that I am a tough critic. I must say after coming here after a 1 year olds birthday and eating their shrimp scampi I had to give this restaurant a FULL FIVE STARS! They even have Buck Hunter while you wait!

Ellen H.

Yelp
Great lunch and cocktails. Service was great. Great Irish pub the other Connolly's has nightly music
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
I only had an app while I was there because I was waiting on my family while they were seeing a show at the theatre down the street. But the pretzel sticks app was great. The bartenders were great, kept my Guiness coming and when I decided to switch recommended and great hazy ipa, the name of which escapes me. The place was hopping with NCAA BBall Tournament going on, lots of groups being catered to. I'll be back next time we're in Manhattan!
google avatar

Melody McCord S.

Yelp
Ordered the fish and chips and the club chicken salad and WOW! The salad was loaded with LOTS of chicken, bacon, eggs you name it. I literally I had to search for the lettuce, lol. Seriously one of the most filling salads ever. The service and atmosphere was pretty typical.
google avatar

Yelp
Went on St. Paddy's Day and it didn't disappoint. Real Irish pub on a real Irish day in NYC.
google avatar

Trina S.

Yelp
My friend who still lives in New York City, has been raving about the spot since I got into town she specifically recommended the calamari Asian salad. And the crabcakes. We finally went the night before I left back home, and unfortunately, both of those items were removed off the menu. Needless to say, the party was extremely disappointed. You may want to consider bringing it back. The pretzels were really good and the service was decent. As far as the ambience, it was a typical Irish pub. I definitely will be back, but I recommend you bring back those two missing items.

Yelp
Where to even begin...? In the city for conference, looked up venues near hotel and found that a live band was performing. Made reservations but for what? Old pub feel when you walk in- directed to top floor/3rd floor for the music. Arrived to see that Line Dancing/country western dance lessons were being held. Advised lady at door that we had reservations, here for dinner and to listen to the band. The house wanted $22 pp for cover. I get it- to cover the band BUT shouldn't the band be paid by the house? We opted to just head downstairs- 1st level. Got sat and handed menus. The NASTIEST WAITRESS (blond with curls) when asked by my colleague- what beers were on top, advised in the NASTIEST WAY that "they're right there on the menu". guess you don't care about Quality service, a brand ambassador for this venue, the concept of hospitality in a Hospitality Industry. That just set the tone for the night. Ugh. Wanted to post this review n the spot but my colleagues were concerned that our food might pay the price so here ya go. We watched as the server put on her coat and left... we had another server designated to serve us. We did express our concerns, lodged our complaints and had the original Miss Nasty stayed- she would have received a full/dirty penny for her truly unprofessional behavior. I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS VENUE. EVER.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful location. Service was quick, staff was friendly and welcoming. Made a reservation, even though they were pretty full, I was seated quickly. Food was good. The fish and chips was delicious and flavorful. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly service and plenty to choose from. The French onion soup was delicious!

Becky F.

Yelp
We stopped here because it was next to our hotel and it had a rooftop bar. We walked the 4 flight of stairs passing different bars on each floor. We got to the rooftop and sat outside for a minute. I noticed there were more items on the menu for the 1st& 2nd floor so we decided to go downstairs. The 3rd floor looked like it was a private party but we didn't ask. The 2nd floor looked nice through the door window. We went to the bar downstairs. The waiters and waiters were quick with our orders and checked on us often. We got plain wings (sauce on the side), fries, beer and Red Bull/vodka to keep us awake. It was all delicious. The minus 1 star is for walking up 4 flights of stairs and not having all the same options as downstairs. And the view wasn't great. It was a fun place to pass time for a drink or 2 and snacks.
google avatar

Ashton K.

Yelp
Typical pub food. They did have a few gluten free options which was surprising! The AC was working on the warm May Day and the servers were all friendly and helpful!

Yelp
This is an Irish pub in New York City. Come on! That's an awesome. Staff is Irish. Great Irish beer. Great ambiance. It was a wonderful pit stop during our NYC explorations.
google avatar

Lia D.

Yelp
We came here for lunch and climbed the stairs for the rooftop bar (there's also an elevator). The rooftop was enclosed, bright and spacious. The service was friendly enough and accommodating. The fries were so crispy and delicious!! The Irish coffee was also very good!! They just need more / larger lettuce for the wrap, but tasty filling (and love the seitan for a veg option)!
google avatar

Yelp
My friend was visiting so we went for adult beverages and were not disappointed--Patrick was outstanding. I love the attention to detail in the bathroom too :).
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
Good to get back to one of my favorite pubs in the city. The service is alway impeccable. Food is fantastic. The vibe is awesome. I ordered the Irish stew. The braised beef was super tender the gravy thick and veggies tender. The beer was cold and having Yuengling on tap always a winner. I tried the house lager it was a very good refreshing beer.
google avatar

Virginia T.

Yelp
Joined some friends today after the Veteran's Day Parade march and even though it was crowded, they provided great service, great beers on tap and gave us a great seating area. Delicious chicken tenders, spring rolls, mozzarella sticks, piggies in a blanket and chicken wings.
google avatar

Andres A.

Yelp
We stopped in just to get a drink while we waited for our show to start. The service was quick and the beer was cold. What else do you need besides that. Well I guess the prices were not bad either.

Yelp
Irish music, good food, Guinness and a shandy. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Everything that makes a great St Patrick's Day dinner before the play.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to the rooftop for appetizers & couple drinks. Our server was fine. Even though the place was busy, we didn't have to wait long for our food. Causal setting. Decorated nicely

Yelp
Great shepherds pie and chicken pot pie. Drinks are reasonable and they have happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to love this location, but if you've been to the others you know why I only like it. Although I made a reservation it wasn't necessary because there were a lot of open tables and we were seated right away. The 1st drink I had was a margarita. Unfortunately it was weak, really weak. I then ordered a Cosmopolitan, yeah it wasn't any better. I'm happy that the food was delicious. I ordered the fish and chips, it was perfect. Crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. My friend had the Garleic burger and she enjoyed it. This location isn't that bad, but next time I'll stick to the beers on tap.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
On the ground floor it feels a bit dark and not so lively. The 3rd floor is the place to be with live music and lots of hanging out with friends. Perfect place for a drink and to chat.

Yelp
Delicious! I was with a theatre group visiting from TX. I loved how our tables were set and ready for us upon our arrival. We had a salad and meal. I ordered the salmon. It was so good! My daughter ordered the shepherd's pie. I tried her food, but it wasn't as good as mine. The cheesecake for dessert was just ok. It was very dark in our room and hot.
