Dan's Hamburgers

Hands down one of the best burgers in Austin. It’s all about a toasted bun, good cheese and equal parts. This is a small bacon cheeseburger with a small curly fry. More fires than I can eat, be ready to share. Finally reviewing this place after several visits, cheers!!!

Food was amazing let me just say that first. But the workers kept messing around. A worker's mother was clearly bothering her daughter while she was trying to focus on work. They need to work on staying focused at work. The place was nicely cleaned up though. Overall food was good, cleaning was good, service wasn't too good.

Dan’s is still my favorite burger spot no matter what or what location. The hickory 🍔cheeseburger always makes me happy. Staff is always rock n roll at every location and still $10-11 for a combo!

What can I y'all?! I live in Leander and never get to eat here anymore. It's been YEARS! The food is great. A great jalapeño cheeseburger and onion rings. There are 2 different sizes of burgers, so my daughter had a small cheeseburger with fries. They were delicious. Staff was friendly and restraunt is clean. Thought it was odd there was a code on the RR doors but then remembered I was in Austin and it made sense and I can appreciate it. The food was great.

Awesome cheeseburgers! Great price! I would go ahead and say stay away from the drive thru because everyone is going through it. I parked and got my food in less than 5 minutes. I got the large cheeseburger with large curly fries, and it hit just right. Definitely will be coming back.

I want you to picture in your mind what the perfect hamburger should be. Is it messy with melted cheese? Does it run down your fingers at the first bite? Does it pop with the tang of pickle? The balanced crunch of lettuce? Is the bun the perfect buttery vessel delivering every ingredient to your mouth with synergistic richness? Well, whatever it is, Dan's is better. Dan's is BETTER.

Dan’s serves one of the best burgers I have ever had. The consistency is outstanding—whether you stop by at 8 am or 5 pm, it’s always delicious! I don’t think there has been a visit where I left disappointed. Not only is the food amazing, but it’s also one of the few places left where you can feed your whole family at an affordable price. This is a must-stop when you’re in the area.

This was my first visit since a few years before Covid. The menu was a lot smaller, so I had a hamburger, onion rings, and drink with a side of hickory sauce and ranch dressing. The hamburger was just like I remember, but the ranch dressing wasn't as good. I used to want to drink it since it was one of the better ranch dressings, but now it is just, eh. Still had a great experience, and the workers were very helpful and kind.

Quick breakfast on the way back to Houston. Great service. The food was good, Dan's is know for the breakfast tacos and burgers. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. Potato, egg and cheese taco 10/10: first off, one taco will suffice. Huge portions and very flavorful. The salsa was very good! Ala carte: Bacon, Biscuits and hash browns 10/10

First time eating here. Was very impressed with the serving size of the fries. Huge burger too! I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in town for Cabela's

Dan's Hamburgers has been a fixture for me since 2001. As a 12 year-old, I'd beg my mom to take me on the way home from my piano lessons. Austin has changed, I've grown up and moved away, but Dan's has stayed consistent. I visit Austin 2-3 times per year and Dan's is a mandatory visit each time I go. There's something slick about a neon sign and a diner booth that speaks to me. My heart goes aflutter when I finish ordering and the cashier pulls up an old-school microphone to simply say "One Double" for the back-of-house to hear (which might also be caused by my actively-clogging arteries, if we're being real). There's something intrinsically human (dare I say...American?) about the Dan's Hamburgers experience. But the first bite of burger...every single time...it's life-affirming. A bit on the greasy side, but it's the tastiest dang grease I've ever known. You won't go wrong with the fries, straight or curly (I always end up with an "oopsie" curly in my bag of straight fries anyways). There has never been a place to go for a simple "burger and fries" that tops Dan's for me. 5 stars. 10/10. My favorite burger.

Old time burgers and fries. They also have great biscuits 'n gravy on their breakfast menu.

This morning we went for breakfast as we had not been here for breakfast in awhile and it was great. We had western omelette hash browns wheat toast and coffee with biscuits and gravy with sausage and egg. It was hit fresh timely and we were waited on quickly and efficiently. The area was clean and well kept. A great place for breakfast and lunch for sure.

I moved to the area recently and have always been curious so I stopped through the drive through. I had a double meat burger and a side of curly fries and everything was delicious, it is an old fashioned burger that tastes homemade. My only gripe on this place is that getting in and out of the lot was a pain in the butt, but food wise it was reasonably priced and good food.

If you love burgers, this place is a must visit! Not only are the burgers and fries awesome (and made to order), but the counter service is also great - friendly and efficient! Not to mention the price point...you get an awesome, fresh burgers (1/4lb) and fries that rivals fast food burger joints! A must try is you're visiting Austin!!! Dan's Hamburgers is now our go to place when we visit Austin!!

Great hamburgers that's for sure would highly recommend if you are around dancer make sure you get one you will not be disappointed

Perfect little dinner spot! What they serve they do well which is burgers and breakfast. It has a cute retro diner feel that I love.

Do yourself a solid and stop by Dan's and grab a bite to eat. The burger, curry fries and shake are a must try and for a little win get a brownie. The service was welcoming and very quick especially for lunch and they were pretty packed. Old school diner feel which is awesome and really cool spot to try especially if you are in the area. A simple burger goes a long way and this is a must try spot.

I have not been here for over 20 years and decided to stop by while in town. I brought my kids and had an awesome experience. The burgers were still amazing and I will definitely return when I am back in town.

Looks like a fast food type hamburger restaurant, but the food is amazing. Great burgers with grilled taste. The onion rings are extremely good. The orders didn't take long to be ready. We said WOW when we took the first bite of those burgers!! Amazing.

I've been coming here for years and they never disappoint. Dans breakfast tacos are always FAT! Great prices, for great food. Coming back for a burger later.

Please, don't come here for breakfast. It's already crowded and you're in my way. Loved Dan's since before he divorced Fran's. All of the food is fresh and made to order. Breakfast is my fave, but it's a great lunch/dinner spot as well. Staff is always friendly but the drive thru can be slow. Reasonably priced.

Just happened to be in the area and it was lunch time... so why not give them a try! I didn't feel like sitting down but in hindsight, I might have eaten sooner. I did the drive thru and I've read other comments where people have indicated the long wait and mine was exceptionally long. I've never been before so I kept it simple with a cheeseburger, onion rings and a shake. I was taking this home but decided to try the onion rings in the car. They are very good but a bit overcooked. The chocolate shake was epic! When I reached home and was able to take a bite of the burger, it was good. The bun is nothing special. Just something I could buy from a local grocery store. The burger itself was good in size and seemed to be quality beef. I ordered it with everything and it was delicious but it wasn't the best burger I've ever had. Overall... it's a burger. If I was nearby and hungry, I would probably try again but dine in. The whole point of the drive thru is convenience and speed. No speed going on at this place. Maybe not overcook the onion rings; they are good and I would order them again, but they just seemed too crunchy and seemed like very little onion inside and the only taste I remember is the fried coating.

I can finally say that this is the best burger in Austin and THE BEST onion rings of anywhere! Honestly, so so so delicious.

1st time here walking in you have this 70s diner feel. Great staff lunch menu is what you would expect burgers, fries and shakes Ordered the single czburger and fries AMAZING!!! Just a plan czhurger just the way my grandma use to make it beef, lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup and mustard. The 1st bite took me back in time when we would be out in the backyard sliding on slip & slide using a hose... kissing those days Fries delicious not soggy or has fancy seasoning just cooked right with salt. Please don't ask for ranch :) Now I had to order the strawberry shake WOW I could of ordered 2.

Food, service, great food! Consistently excellent. Parking can be a challenge, be patient.

"a hunka hunka burnin beef". And, I mean that in the best of ways. Just a solid, tasty, well put together good old fashioned hamburger served the way it used to be, and the way it should always be served. While we're at it, let's not forget about the nostalgia. Or, the friendly people who serve you while you're there. Harkens back to another time, and one I remember fondly. It's my go to in Austin for a quick burger! P.S. Fries are good too!

Always so good! Great tasting old school burger. Nice to have a drive thru that's not the same old same old national chain burger. Two kinds of fries and onion rings are a huge plus. But don't forget the delicious malts

Horrible. It used to be something to look forward to from time to time. I just had a burger, fries and a shake. It all tasted like someone used the burger as a urinal. Highly unlikely I shall visit again.

Just had an amazing meal at Dan's Burgers. The burgers were juicy and flavorful, and the portion sizes were generous. Despite the current inflation, their prices are incredibly reasonable. Highly recommend for anyone craving a delicious, affordable burger! Can't wait to return!

Burnt patties that were so tough to bite thru. My husband and I were so hungry and saw a Reddit thread that recommended this place. No thanks. Wasted our stomach space on this place :(

First time here. We stopped by because of the reviews. I was NOT disappointed! The food is cooked with great taste & done fresh! Kuddos to the cook & people in the kitchen who are preparing the orders! Onion rings are delicious! Batter has great taste! The French fries are so good! Not greasy! The place looks like it can be updated on the outside. Could use some cleaning inside on floors & tables & chairs as well behind the counter where you place your orders. The staff is friendly & courteous. We will be definitely returning! Visiting from out of town.

Service was fast, food came out quick, and even when my number was called the same sweet lady said "thank you!". So you're telling me coming in felt awesome, receiving the food was awesome, AND eating the food was AWESOME?! Good job DANs, your staff is amazing and welcoming (The only reason the food has a 9 is I'm really picky on my fries and they were a tad greasy but still... 10/10 for everything overall)

Ya know, sometimes you just need simple basic comfort food. Dan's has been delivering that for 50 years with solid tasty burgers. Not a huge menu, but definitely high quality burgers with fresh ingredients. Fries and onion rings are excellent. Thick, tasty shakes. 1950s burger diner just done so well. Great shakes!! Great onions rings!! Go support your local Dan's.

Best greasy burger in town!!! Amazing flavor, perfect fries! If you're looking for that 50's diner vibe complete with awesomeness, you've got it here! No frills, damn good burgers!!! This place is counter service so don't expect a waitress to hang in your every need, you want it, go order it.

Food, service, speed...80's music playing. It is worth the stop. They are very quick, not too crowded and has 50's diner decor.

Amazing food. Grew up eating here and it's still as good as ever. Took my kids here and now I take my grandkids. We all love it. Highly recommend.

Just love dans! Homey and local, the burgers are always cooked in fresh grease, and you can just tell the difference. Made with love and care, don't go to whataburger when local treasure dans is here. I'm so happy I live south again and go here whenever i like. If you bus, this is a quick stop for a yummy affordable dinner before you head downtown or to s Lamar. The transit center is walking distance. Dans is also next door to the wonderful radio coffee. Just the best burger around!

DAN's HAS IT FIGURED OUT!! Trust the reviews. This place is measuring up to the hype. The double meet single burger was perfectly balanced. Almost sweet but cut with that mustard only! No one has time for ketchup! The onion rings were top 3 I have ever had. Living in Phoenix we have options galore. Give me a Dans in the desert and I'm set! 5/5 stars easily! Top notch diner slinging top shelf burgers!!

Went through drive-through got a double jalapeño burger with fries. I got what I wanted hot food. No mistakes lady at the window was courteous. Find an extra pepper salt Hey burger was hot fries were hot. Not like most places. work hard nce when done right!

Dan's Hamburgers is a local icon and I've been eating there for years. It's always a good hamburger that's for sure. But, you must eat it fresh. If not, it quickly turns into a hamburger puck. That means you most likely need to dine inside. It's a standard fast food seating type of place so not comfortable. But as least it's fresh. The fries and onion rings are tasty, hot, but tend to be on the greasy side. There's A LOT of them though, At the end, an angioplasty is recommended. The service is friendly. Always friendly. Be warned: it takes a bit to get your order as things from scratch take time.

The food was good but not exceptional. The large orders of fries and onion rings are huge! I expected it to have more of a 1950's malt shop feel with juke box music, but it felt no different than sitting in a Texas Burger. Parking is extremely limited and hard to get to at the Menchaca location in Austin.

If you like that homestyle feel of a burger this might be a great option menu is simple but you can have good add ons like jalapeños and bacon, the best for me are the curly fries , gets packed on weekends but plenty of room inside too

Change. Change is what we fear the most. It stops us from doing better from doing more. my greatest fear is that Dans will change. My whole life it's been amazing burgers and killer breakfast. Done the old fashion way and a big FU to healthy crap. They did take some stuff off the menu years ago but it's ok because the burger is the bomb! I wish breakfast was all day because I rarely make it. But when I do it's like grandmas house on spring break. Keep up the good work Dan and please never change!

Best all around place for service price and quality of food. I love the breakfast ham and eggs dish. Give this place a try if you haven't already

I've always LOVED this place! But my shake yesterday was really some ice cream in a cup, unmovable by the CHEAP straw they gave me to extract it. The pickles are WAY to thick, who wants to overpower a perfectly good burger with too much pickle...

Dan's Burgers are Bomb!! But you gotta try their Breakfast...3 words.. Biscuits and Gravy!!! Bro the Biscuits & Gravy are phenomenal. Once you taste them, you'll never Untaste them. No other B&G will be the same after this experience. Back to their Burgers...1 large order of French fries is enough for 2-3 people. Keep that in mind when ordering.

With all these fancy hamburger places around now you can't beat a Dan's hamburger. The onion rings are my favorite. The price is right too. Old school burgers at there best.

I've wanted a burger for about 2 weeks now but I didn't want just any burger I wanted a BURGER. Then, it hit me in the middle of the night...DAN'S!!!!So I went today. Like most Austinites, I'm not stranger. Dan's is an OG Austin food spot that feeds your belly and soul. I was actually excited when I pulled into the parking lot. All the cars bumper to bumper in this tiny lot just like I remember! I went in bc I came into the wrong drive to go into the drive thru. Nah biggie considering how backed up it was. I probably would have ended up in the middle of Manchaca anyway. Even before going in I knew what I wanted. Regular cheeseburger all the way add bacon and grilled onions instead of regular onion. Medium half fries half rings and medium chocolate vanilla shake. I could already taste it!!!!! I ordered the burger. No problem. Ordered the frings and STRIKE. I was told they don't do that there. Since when?! Well it has been a while since I been here. OK. Just a small fry then because i obviously gotta feel this place our again. Asked if they do the half and half shake. Was told their shake machine was down. I stared in 'this is McDonald's' confusion. Ok then. That's it. Came out to a reasonable $7.98. Reasonable enough that i could actually pay cash...SCORE! OK so now we wait....and wait....and wait....I get it. They are BUSY. Just be aware. Doesnt matter to me though bc I'm willing to wait for what my aunt lovingly refers to as "crack burgers" lol. And when it came out I rolled the bag tight and sped right home. When I got home I realized I'd messed up. I forgot to say extra pickles but I'm am addict so I've always got extra attention home! Added them and was ready to go! Tried the fries first and was less than enthused. First thing I noticed was that they needed salt. But that's subjective so no biggie. Tried another and it was slightly hard. Nah, these fries aren't it. There were a few curly fries that found their way into my bag. Those were great. My advice would be to get those. But you don't go to Dan's for fries anyway so who cares! I unwrapped the real reason for the visit and it I was pleasantly surprised. I expected to have a plain burger with only grilled onions bc of the way I'd phrased my order but no, it was fine all the way WITH the grilled onions. Thank you burger Jesus! The first bite though didn't illicit the joy I remembered from as Dan's burger! I was slightly disappointed. It was bad, but it was just a burger and not a DAN'S burger. But I kept eating and I found it. There were enough grilled onions and the bun wasn't grilled like I remembered but it was still a good burger. I have to say, as much as I live it here and I'll NEVER abandon Dan's this isn't what I remember. Maybe something was lost in the remodel. Its sad to me. When it looked like a wooden shack magic came from that building. You weren't even upset scratching your car in that tiny lot bc it was a part of the experience. I know I sound like an old head but it really signifies how Austin as a whole has changed and a part of me mourns that. This place holds a special place bc ive been coming here since I was a preteen. My sister worked here. Its more than a burger place to me and I feel like something has been lost. Like I said, I'll never not come here. I'll be back. If for nothing else than to sit and think about how things used to be.

I used to go to Dan's quite a bit as it was on my route to and from work. Now that I don't travel that way often, I haven't been to Dan's in years until today. My heavens, I had forgotten how down right tasty their burgers are. There are some essentials of American cooking when done correctly, just knock your socks off. Dan's cheeseburger is one of those items. Some of the faces behind the counter have changed but the friendly service has not. I really like the new but still retro decor. I was very pleased I stopped in for lunch while getting new tires at Austin Tireman. Definitely hitting up Dan's next time I have the en vie for a juicy burger with grilled onion.

First time trying it and didn't disappoint. Close to my job and despite being lunch rush it was a quick stop in for lunch within the time constraints I had to work with. Smaller menu means they can focus on quality over quantity and that's always appreciated. Curly fries option was a great addition to my cheeseburger and sweet tea was excellent. Decor is a retro diner feel and 80's popular hits was playing throughout. When I went to leave the drive through line wrapped around the building and the parking lot was full. It's a little hard to get in and out when it was busy and the parking spots are a bit cramped but it's a great location.
