The 20 Best Japanese Restaurants in NYC

"This small, subterranean shop in the East Village serves comforting Japanese food like crispy okonomiyaki, and perfectly fried karaage on paper plates—and everything costs less than $16. There are a few tables, but this spot works better as a takeaway option. The Hakata-style yaki udon is one of our favorite bites, with big, juicy slabs of pork belly, large flakes of ginger, and a creamy sauce that has enough of a kick to counter its own richness. Grab an order of takoyaki; the fried balls are hot and squishy, with just the right amount of octopus chew." - will hartman, neha talreja, bryan kim, willa moore

Where to Drink Sake (and Pair It With Delicious Food) in NYC | Eater

"Dokodemo, or Japanese for “anywhere,” lives up to its name: You could be anywhere in the world, but eating these Japanese street food staples will transport you to the motherland of takoyaki (grilled wheat balls filled with octopus), where fragrant stalls of specialty okonomiyaki (savory pancake with cabbage, egg, and other toppings), yakisoba, and even ramen rice lure passerbys to stop and snack as a detour. Chef-owner Shin Takagi has moved these street specialties into a fast-casual setting, offering a short-but-sweet selection of Japanese beer and sake to wash everything — don’t sleep on the bottles of Hakkaisan Hyoto, perfect paired with a tray of crispy-creamy takoyaki." - Vox Creative

I go to Doko Demo every time I’m in New York. It’s a simple and welcoming spot a great little local gem that always makes you feel at home. The food is absolutely delicious, portions are generous, prices are fair, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Everything is fresh and made with care. We’re always greeted warmly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Honestly, it’s the best dining experience I’ve had in New York. I keep coming back and I will every time I’m in town.

Google
The soy sauce based yakisoba with tofu tastes SUPER good. I got hot, and the spice was a good kick without overpowering other flavors (front of mouth, non lingering burn). Keep in mind that I'm a spice lover. I'd highly recommend this place!! Freshly cooked, great service, cute restaurant, and an incredible chef! I just read the chef's story as now I'm heading back for more - To the chef, I'm grateful for your sacrifice and hard work to put this yummy food on my plate! Especially as a vegetarian, there are rarely options, but DokoDemo has a couple flavorful vegetarian choices. :)

Google
Amazing fried Chicken. Soft and crunchy (rice puff) on the outside with every bite. Clean ingredients. They definitely used new oil. Yuzu lemonade 🍋. Nothing beats it. Pork Okonomi-yaki is just soft while cabbage is crunchy. Fresh ingredient once again. Feeling light yet full at the end. Must try

Google
Overall just ate a light meal here. Had high hopes because I love Japanese food and tik tok told me this is authentic version It wasn’t bad. Just didn’t blow me away. I think I would go back and try other things. Most of it is classic street food not much health consciousness - which is totally fine to be honest It’s not a no for me but also not running back today

I came in about 25 minutes to closing and they treated me like I was the first customer of the day! I haven’t been to this spot in many years and saw the revamped menu on social media. So I decided to go back. I am glad I did. The new Hiroshima-yaki was just what I needed. Large portion, filled with pork belly, noodles, delicious veggies and wrapped up in a nice fluffy pancake. Which is then smothered in savory sauces, crispy bits and bonito flakes. Super satisfied.

Google
Hiroshima style okonomiyaki.... THE BEST 🤤 hard to find in Manhattan. My favorite food and they did it perfectly 🥰 Yes there are noodles in the picture, they have folded it a little like omelet 😄 they will warm up sake if you ask 😉

Google
Small spot, great vibes for an intimate setting with another (date or not) will go again. Service is great. Hopefully, Richard is there when you check it out 💪🏼

Google
This place is so awesome from the music to the decor! Its super original with great staff but the food is the ultimate standout. We had the Hiroshima-Yaki a combination of yakitori style noodles with grilled chicken cooked between a savory pancake coated with bbq and mayo that was freaking bomb!!! Plus that cabbage on the side?! Bruh! The pork dumplings were just as we expected great balance of umami and onions with that nice dark sauce that was surprisingly heavy but perfect coating the exterior. Dokodemo is the spot for unique japanese grill food with a modern urban adaptation that fits the crowd like myself. Will be back! Thank you Richard for the excellent experience!!!

Yelp
The food is very good and a reminder of what you can get at Dotonburi Osaka if been there before. Service isn't very fast but worth the wait. The place is small so it really does give the feel of a small restaurant.

Yelp
I saw this place on TikTok and knew I had to stop in on my recent NYC visit. It's a small spot in East Village but cozy vibes and super friendly staff. They heated up our sake and brought out your food. We ordered the okonomi-yaki and a bowl of ramen as it was a cold day and we wanted something comforting. The okonomi yaki was amazing- well worth the hype, so soft but full of flavor. The pork we added was a bit too chewy and gamey for my liking however I'd just swap out other meat next time around. The ramen was OK- nothing special but filling and a great portion. Definitely need to come back again to try out more items!

Mandy L.

Yelp
I came here for dinner to try their okonomiyaki and was a bit disappointed Pros: - Really liked the ambiance--it was cozy and chill Cons: - They definitely need more staff in the kitchen, but the guy juggling both the front and the back was really nice and as attentive as he could be. - Tried both the Okonomi-Yaki with Beef and the Hiroshima-Yaki with Pork, and the meat selection was a bit off. Usually, thinly sliced meat is used for okonomiyaki, but chunks of beef and pork were used instead so the texture was off - The fried chicken wasn't very flavorful and was a bit greasy. Had better karaage

Karina G.

Yelp
Delicious ramen! We loved the cozy atmosphere. The ramen broth was rich and satisfying and perfect as we were pretty cold from walking around for a few hours. I wish we lived closer and could come every week.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Really small and intimate inside and honestly surprised it wasn't more busy for how good the food was. Honestly the yakisoba was SOOOO good, I was so glad we got it. The noodles were so good and yummy along with the pork. I wish we would've gotten the other flavor yakisoba next time. The ramen rice was okay, it's just base fried rice with some noodles in but not as flavorful as the noodles. Our drinks came out after our food which was interesting. Would come back for sure given how cheap it is too. Very filling!

Yelp
It was a Tuesday evening, it was freezing out in NYC, and we were feeling something hot and lathered in sauce- so we decided to go to Dokodemo to check out their okonomiyaki. We were fairly lucky in that the place was pretty calm when we arrived. After settling in, we decided to go for two orders of their ramen and one order each for their okonomiyaki as well as their Hiroshima-yaki. The ramen was honestly average- fare you can get just about anywhere in NYC. Their okonomiyaki was surprisingly well done. The cabbage was light and provided a good balance against the okonomiyaki sauce, and the tempura crisp added a nice texture to the bite. The hiroshimayaki was also interesting with the added noodles, but was a bit too heavy on the sauce for my tastes. Service was not provided- you order up front and there's a spot for you to throw out the trash and stack your plates at the end of it. But the man that took our order was appropriately friendly and sweet. Cute spot for a quick bite.

Yelp
If you want Ramen and enjoy authentic food - DokoDemo is your spot. Stumbled upon this while visiting The Public Theater. It was a little cool out so was in the mood for some Ramen. This shop will be very easy to miss if walking down a somewhat active block. When you walk in, it's not the largest or most glamorous location but the ramen is A1. They charge for every addition, which stinks but let's you somewhat customize your dish. One of the things that made this spot special was everything appeared to be cooked right there so it took a few mins from placing an order to devouring it. I could hear the pork sizzling on the grill which made me feel good. Service was quick and the guy at the counter was kind. Was quiet when we arrived but I could tell this place is popular in the neighborhood. Will most def be returning when in the area.

Yelp
Good fast eats. Order at the counter, seat yourself, and choose a Japanese beverage from the fridge (non alcoholic, beer, or sake). Food is delicious, as always. The fried chicken was surprisingly good and addictive. Choose the spicy level. I asked for hot, and it was ok. Next time I would go hot hot instead. Okinomiyaki was delicious. They were out of shrimp, so we got pork, and it did not disappoint. No takoyaki on the menu this time, but plenty of other yummy options.
google avatar

Jackie H.

Yelp
Really loved this spot! If you crave a quick and authentic Japanese meal, come here. It is fast casual vibes but the food doesn't lack in flavor or portion. We had the yakisoba with chicken and okonokyami with chicken as well. Both were flavorful and delicious. The noodle in the yakisoba was perfectly chewy.they have a drinks fridge with Japanese milk tea, juice, soda, and sake. Plates and utensils are paper and disposable after one use with your tray at the end. My phone died after a long day out and thankfully they helped me charge it in the back. I really appreciated that. Will definitely return!

Yelp
I'd give this place a 4.5/5. Pretty good overall. I got the tonkatsu fried rice, okonomiyaki with pork topping, dokodemo ramen, and the hiroshimayaki. Let me just say everything was delicious. The flavoring tasted amazing and authentic Japanese. I'm interested in trying the other stuff on the menu after trying those. Price was kinda expensive unfortunately... but definitely recommend trying it out. Total for everything came go about $80.
google avatar

Austin K.

Yelp
Good experience. Cute spot with friendly homestyle service. Small menu, reasonable prices. Dekodomo ramen with added grilled pork (not quite seared chashu but similar) had great tonkatsu flavor and springy noodles. Only complaint is they could have better chopsticks. Will be back to try the yakisoba and rice.

Yelp
A must-visit if you're seeking authentic and yet fresh okonomiyaki and yakisoba. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and the vibe feels comfortable. Upon entering, head toward the cashier to place your order. Once ordered, the cashier will hand you a number, and then you choose a seat. Once the food is done, the cashier will bring them to your table. Note they no longer serve takoyaki or have octopus as one of their protein choices. Their menu is limited, so ask for their off-the-menu items. They also have bottled sake as one of their drink choices. I have to take away a star because although the flavor of okonomiyaki is authentic, however the presentation isn't.

Yelp
After a brutal SoulCycle class, my husband and I were on the prowl for some CARBS. Found this place on yelp and we hobbled over (okay fine, he walked normally and I hobbled) Watch your step as you go down a few steps to go in- take a look at the menu and order at the counter. DokoDemo (which means "anywhere/wherever" in Japanese) offers various hearty Japanese carb dishes like takoyaki, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, fried rice and rice bowls topped with meat. They also offer ramen rice, which seems to be a hybrid of fried ramen noodles and rice- my husband got this with pork and it disappeared in a matter of minutes, he LOVED it. You can also adjust the spiciness of the dish- I got the yakisoba with chicken and asked for mild. However, they made me a spicy version, but no worries- I told the staff at the counter and a new, mild yakisoba came out soon after. The chicken was juicy and well seasoned and well cooked. The yakisoba was made with ramen noodles (not the usual wheat noodles) and included bamboo shoots and cilantro, which I had never had before in yakisoba. While the dish was good overall, I think it is more "fusion yakisoba" than the traditional Japanese yakisoba that people may think of when they hear "yakisoba" or what I grew up with. Nothing wrong with it, just not what I was expecting I guess! I'm interested in trying the okonomiyaki next time- the food was good so looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
I came for takoyaki but they were out and will be for a while since one of the ingredients from Japan is out of stock. Made me really sad but the noodles made up for it. Soy Sauce Yakisoba w tofu and kimchi was so freaking good. It's a big portion too and I couldn't stop eating it. Truly had to walk it off after the dinner was over. It's order-and-sit type joint. The guy at the register was very helpful and communicative. 5 stars on service. Very chill casual spot. Wish the tables were being cleaned more often but beside that it's awesome for a quick pit stop for a reasonable price.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious !!!! Their pancake is one of the best I have ever had! Fried rice was amazing tooooooo. Worth the trip. Price: 3.8/5 Cleanliness 4/5 Deliciousness: 5/5

Yelp
I've been on a MF QUEST for legit Hiroshima style okonomiyaki for like years of my life. Although the OG version has no seafood...many other places only give you the seafood option (sadistic!). At Doko Demo you can select your own protein! The place is unassuming and causal. No servers but the cashier/expeditor/mgr does park your plate in front of you. Theres a semi outdoor area that's street level and a main open dining area about 5 steps down from street level. There's one clean, low ceiling bathroom. *PSA for the ladies and gents sitting street level facing the sidewalk... your lower half's might be on display to the dining room, so be aware- Looking at you, whale tail! So, the food? Amazing. Best Chicky Karaage Ive ever had in my life! It was well seasoned and super crunchy. Beef bowl was plentiful with a slightly spicy fried rice. The beef was sweet and flavorful. The okonomiyaki was the star of the show! So many amazing flavors and textures! Sweet tangy sauce, noodles, cabbage, veggies, Japanese mayo, crunchies all prepared to delicious perfection. Will be back!

Yelp
Ordered from here for lunch. Choose to pick up the food since it was close to work. The food was made super fast and the workers were very nice when I was picking up. The interior of the place looked really nice, so I definitely want to come back again and eat in! The hiroshima-yaki was so delicious! I got it with pork which did not disappoint. Will definitely be back again to try it either with tofu or shrimp.

Yelp
DokoDemo is a pretty good casual Japanese joint. Somewhat balanced dishes paired with quick service.

Yelp
This place had been sitting on my bookmarks seemingly forever. After finally giving them a try, I regret not coming sooner! Its DELICIOUS. Just unfortunately a little too pricy to have too often. Who doesn't like some nicely seasoned food? I love it. Just sometimes, I feel like it could get a little bit on the salty side but its still manageable. I love getting their fried chicken bowl. To be honest, I was a little disappointed in the portion when I first took it out of the bag to gobble up but as I ate, I realized it was actually the PERFECT portion, not too little and not too much. I really wanted to try their gyudon but they unfortunately don't make that anymore... I even got my husband hooked on it (and he doesn't normally like to try new things)
google avatar

Meng Z.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick dinner spot and stumbled upon this place. It's a casual setup where you just order in the front and seat yourself wherever you like. We got the Takoyaki, a ramen rice, and a fried rice. The Takoyaki was pretty good and I've been craving it. I just wish there weren't tempura crisps on them. The ramen rice and fried rice, on the other hand, were meh. You get to choose the spicy level. Then the protein and the vegetable add-ons for an additional price. This is definitely a place for a quick and convenient lunch/dinner especially when you're in a rush.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
I had the fried chicken bowl, ordered at 8:05pm on a Friday night. Wasn't crowded at all. After 30 minutes, I got up to remind them that I hadn't received my order. Finally received my food when the place was closing, and I was sent home with a to-go bag. The staff were polite and the food was reasonably priced. But the wait was egregious. Maybe they found me annoying. If I go back and have a positive experience, I'll take down this review.
google avatar

Elizabeth X.

Yelp
Would probably go with 3.5 stars if I could - cute concept place: Japanese fast food. You order and pick a table to sit at - inside is dark and cozy, and they have some shaded outdoor seating as well. We came in mid afternoon on a Saturday - it was not very busy. Quiet and relaxing. Staff is very friendly in helping us pick our order. We got the Yakisoba, Chicken Bowl, and Wasabi Mayo Takoyaki. Everything held a lot of flavor, but everything tasted really salty. I preferred the Chicken Bowl over Yakisoba. I enjoyed the little ginger pieces in the chicken bowl and takoyaki. Be prepared to crave lots of water around this meal though.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Overpriced for the portion size, and the food was overwhelmingly bland. I tried both the Ramen Rice and the Fried Chicken Rice. I initially came here for the okonomiyaki I saw in Yelp pictures, but it's not on the menu. Also, they don't give you water.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Incredibly friendly staff who helped me pick out my whole order! I love the food options they have. Everyone in the place seemed very pleased with their meals. Love the outdoor patio as well. Food was delicious. The place is clean and spacious.
google avatar

Sherry F.

Yelp
I'm not sure how else to describe their food without using the word 'salty'. The two dishes I ordered (yakisoba noodles $9.95 and takoyaki balls $8.95) were overwhelming salty, especially the takoyaki, so much so that I had to stop and throw out 4 of the 8 balls left. Most of them weren't even fully spherical. It was like 2/3 a dome. I was also a little disappointed in the type of noodles used for the yakisoba, as they used flat noodles instead of the typical yakisoba noodles. Overall, the experience was just disappointing.
google avatar

Chaewon L.

Yelp
I came here for the takoyaki and okonomiyaki only to find out that they stopped serving them about 3 months ago (my visit was on March 2023). The server told me it was due to staff shortages and ingredient supply issues. I ended up getting the fried chicken rice bowl. The chicken was fried really well, and I enjoyed it. The amount of chicken given was very generous too. However, there was cilantro in the bed of rice, which is the least expected ingredient from eating out at a Japanese place. That was not pleasant since cilantro unfortunately ruins the entire palate for me, as much as I try to acquire the taste.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband has been on a quest for the authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. He doesn't love the seafood versions, so the fact that we were able to find a veggie-forward version, we had to try it. Not too conspicuous of a store-front, but you walk in and down the steps into the main eatery. Their name is painted in black on the back white wall. You order at the counter with the very friendly and helpful cashier (who also works as the expo and server). Needless to say a small business but def not small in flavor or service. You can peer into the skinny long hot-line of a kitchen and see the chef and his counterpart sweating away busting out the delish eats. Their menu is not too extensive, but what they serve is amazing. We ordered the Beef bowl, Fried chicken bowl, and the Hiroshima-yaki. The beef bowl came out first, served on a paper dish. The rice is light and fluffy and seasoned with some Japanese seasoning powder. The beef is super thin-sliced but with a delicate flavoring, but you get the taste of the beef mostly, accompanied by red pickled ginger and fresh shredded cabbage. The fried chicken bowl (which is like a karaage over rice) served with the same seasoned rice, but the fried dark meat chicken is sauced with eel sauce, kewpie and red pickled ginger. Also comes with half of a marinated boiled egg. The Hiroshima-yaki came out last, but it was steaming! Oval-shaped pancake omelette with stir-fried noodles and marinated chicken inside along with shredded cabbage and veggies. All topped with the eel sauce, kewpie mayo and bonita flakes. No shortage of red pickled ginger in this meal, and I was not mad at it. It's a small space, but they can bust out some great dishes. The service was stellar for how under-staffed they seem to be. It is definitely a repeat for us whenever we are in that area. Highly recommend trying everything! Good for groups or a date or even by yourself. Can't wait for the next time!

Yelp
Wandering in NY and found this restaurant. Absolutely delicious chicken bowl and the right spices. Go here all the time. Perfect find.
google avatar

Yusen L.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday for lunch, it was very empty and quiet. First thing, very limited menu option, there's no appetizers. There are also no water cup that day because they ran out of cups. The fried chicken was pretty good, it was seasoned and juicy and crispy. The ramen fried rice on the other hand, was very disappointing. It was extremely salty, and under flavor in other aspects. The chicken that came with the fried rice is unseasoned compared to the rice. Overall, it was not a memorable meal. Price wise, it was a little pricey. Two items with no extra topping plus 15 percent tip run us about $32 as of April 2023.

Scott K.

Yelp
Great stop. Chicken bowl was awesome. Very friendly and helpful. Food was spiced perfectly and very tasty.

Asad Z.

Yelp
Didn't know what to get and the guy was super friendly. I got the fried chicken bowl and it was soooooooo good. The place itself is so cute too you gotta like step down into it it's so cool
google avatar

Yelp
We didn't have high expectations given it was in a college student area and prices were cheap. However, the food was extremely salty and barely had any other flavors. The takoyaki was covered in too much sauce, and I couldn't taste anything else. The yakisoba was not very good and very simply stir fried in soy sauce. Picking up your order was pretty confusing because they call out the food item, but there's only 4 things on the menu.. We asked if it was our order number, and the guy was kind of rude. Seating, ordering, and the vibe was very college cafeteria-like. If the food was better, I wouldn't have minded..

Lein And Bein N.

Yelp
Food here was EXCELLENT. Food was flavorful and came out piping hot. Food is meant to be shared. The space was inviting with the wooden furniture. Order at the front and seat yourself. Was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant and would come again.

Jack Attack M.

Yelp
Cool intimate spot for lunch and dinner. The ramen was 20$ thought that was a little much but it was good.

Yelp
Yummy yummy yummy. Whatever you order will be great. Fast. Only problem is the place isn't comfortable.
google avatar

Jenny Z.

Yelp
Delicious! Food: Best yakisoba in the city- they portion the add ins so there isn't too much cabbage. They do everything really well. Interior: there are four tables so there isn't too much seating.
google avatar

Irum K.

Yelp
Walked past this place so many times and finally decided to check it out! The interior is super simple with a few tables and stools against the walls to sit. There are a few semi-outdoor tables as well, all first come first serve. You just order your food and look for open tables, no waiters or anything. Based on how reasonable the price was my husband and I expected the portions to be small, but we were pleasantly surprised when our dishes came out. They give a good amount of food for the price. We shared 2 dishes and tried the takoyaki and we were stuffed! One dish we ordered were the yakisoba noodles with chicken- and WOW. This was definitely our favorite dish. It had a great kick to it and was so flavorful, definitely recommend. The next dish we got was the fried chicken bowl, this was also great! It had kind of a sweet taste and the chicken is served over rice which was so good. And lastly we tried the original takoyaki, it was definitely different. I think we weren't expecting the texture to be so squishy lol but it was still good. Might try the mushroom takoyaki next time cuz idk how we felt about the octopus. But overall, we had a great time here! The staff was even so nice. Definitely a great place for quick, good, adorable food! Will definitely come back (:

Mandy C.

Yelp
I hate to leave 1 star for this place because I used to love this place! It was my go-to yakisoba and okonomiyaki spot. I went back recently after a while (2 years) Unfortunately, their yakisoba had changed for the worst. They might change ownership. First off, the staff asked how spicy I want for my yakisoba. I felt off because I don't think Yakisoba should have spicy level?! From what I know Yakisoba should be salty, sweet, and tangy not spicy. (I know some people might want to add some spices like sriracha sauce but it should not be default) Second, when I opened the container, I was shocked to see something that doesn't look like Yakisoba at all! They changed from soba noodle to some thin flat noodle that I have no idea what the noodle was but I'm sure that it wasn't soba noodle anyone should use in Yakisoba. From the look, it looked more like Pad Thai (but it's not thin rice noodle that is used for Pad Thai neither) Third, they don't even put bonito flakes and mayo on top of my yakisoba Fourth, they add some veggies that shouldn't be in Yakisoba at all. Fifth, their yakisoba is too oily. I didn't taste any Yakisoba sauce. Not even, soy sauce taste. I only tasted oil. It tasted like noodle mixed with oil. Sixth, I ordered pork yakisoba and their pork was too fatty. I ended up throwing away more than half of it. You can easily compare the "yakisoba" I got with the pictures they posted on the @Dokodemonyc instagram account a few years ago and see how wildly different they are. I won't say this is the worst yakisoba because it's not even a yakisoba. Another thing that makes me think there's ownership change because they removed Okonomiyaki from the menu. The only positive thing is that the staff is so nice and attentive. But, I'm sorry to say that I won't go back to this place and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
The service is wonderful and so friendly . We get delivery since our store is nearby. We love both the Ramen/ Fried rice ( 2 carbs always better than 1!) Also the fried chicken rice bowl . They are famous for more authentic Japanese street street food ( also great ) .
google avatar

Krystal L.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of takoyaki and had Dokodemo bookmarked for a while now. Was around St Marks area today and came on a whim for lunch. Not busy at all on a Saturday afternoon at 12pm. The first thing I noticed about the takoyaki was the small size. I can't seem to justify paying nearly $10 for this. I would be more comfortable with a price tag of $5.99 or maybe if they gave 10 balls instead of 8. Other than that, the takoyaki was better than others I've had in NYC. Could use some bonito flakes on top for a more authentic feel. My cousin ordered the ramen rice which he said was tasty, but the dish served did not match the display picture so he felt kind of mislead. I would come back again if I get a craving, but probably order something else for a better bang for my buck. Note: I did not see the sukiyaki omlette for sale. They replaced it with a burrito.
google avatar

Dong K.

Yelp
I came solely for okonomiyaki, but they took it off the menu because the chef who makes it is away. There is no mention of this on their website, so it was already a bad start. Stayed and ordered fried rice, fried chicken and takoyaki. Like i don't even know where to begin. Just don't go here. You can pay the same amount and get minimum double the quality at any other japanese spots in the eastern seaboard. best thing i had here was a bottle of water. seriously, WTF bro? makes me angry for the calorie intake

Yelp
DokoDemo brings a fun twist to authentic Japanese street food. It was my first time going here and the cashier was extremely helpful by going over their most popular dishes. The decor is fun with a chalkboard Mural right by the kitchen and the music they play on the speakers brings it all together. Would definitely go again if I'm ever in the EV area!

Yelp
Inthe search of delicious takoyaki, my friend and I found our way to DokoDemo. The restaurant has dim lighting and a casual atmosphere. We ordered the Original Takoyaki (8 piece) to go and equals a little over $1 a piece. It was made fresh and quickly. It carried well through the subway and tasted yummy.

Yelp
Fried chicken bowl recommended. The server took our order quickly. And the place is nice with four tables to sit and eat. Would come here again!

Yelp
It was my first time trying DokoDemo so I didn't have many expectations going it. I ordered online and thought they'd pack it to-go for us to takeaway. When I got there, I was greeted by three men who were super friendly and welcoming. I told them we ordered online and he asked if we wanted to eat in or take-out. Given the option, I, of course, chose to eat in. Although we ordered ahead, they haven't started prepping our food yet, which was okay since we weren't in a rush. We ordered the takoyaki and beef yakisoba. It took a while since it was made fresh. The yakisoba was good, but the beef was the star. It was juicy and tender and the yakisoba was very flavorful. The takoyaki was good as well but wasn't spectacular. It oddly came with a pita on the side which I like but was kind of weird. Instead of bonito flakes, it came with some kind of rice krispy, which I don't prefer. Bonito flakes make takoyaki delicious! Sad that it didn't come with any. Overall, the shop was very nice and cozy. The people there were friendly. The food was good, but a bit pricey.

Yelp
Overall a really good simple Japanese street food restaurant. Their menu is consist of 6/7 simple dishes from okonomiyaki, takoyaki, yakisoba, karagae and maybe a couple more items -- which I like, it's not overwhelming. My friends and I got the okonomiyaki and takoyaki to share, I got the karagae rice bowl and my friends all got the yakisoba, sweet (according to the gentleman that was assisting us, sweet is the traditional Japanese style). We were all fairly happy with our dishes. The okonomiyaki and takoyaki were delicious. My friends seemed to enjoy the yakisoba, my karagae was decent but I've had better but it was not bad and the fried egg was a nice touch. My biggest complaint would be that the spicy was not at all spicy. I actually couldn't taste the spicy at all. Price was on the medium to high scale for the portion; from what I can remember, nothing on the menu was over $10.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick takeout on my way home after a workout class. Decor is simple but cute with its large wooden tables. You can also see them cook the takoyaki and all the other food behind the glass counter (great way to entertain yourself while you wait for your food to arrive). I ordered the classic takoyaki and the large fried chicken. I decided to take a small bite for a taste instead of just packing things to go. Probably not the best decision in hindsight because everything was so freaking good that it took all my willpower to not inhale my entire order right then and there. I swear, if I didn't have a hungry man waiting for this food back home, all of it would have been gonezo before I ever step out of the restaurant. The takoyaki was delicious - I love the bite of the tender octopus filling. The fried chicken is, hands down, one of the best Japanese fried chicken I've ever tasted. Perfectly crisp skin that's not over-fried yet the inside manage to stay moist and tender. There's also this nice crispy fried rice on the bottom - makes me want to order their fried rice next time. Everything was perfectly seasoned also - Unami bomb with just the faintest tinge of sweetness. And everything was also very affordably priced. This has become my new go to for an Asian treat after workout. I can't wait to try the other items on their menu!

Yelp
This place is quite affordable and offers a variety of Japanese food (from yakisoba to okonomiyaki), but the taste is more or less mediocre. You order at the front, and they make the entire thing for you, and then they call your number and you pick it out from the front. I had the okonomiyaki with pork, and it was just okay. The variety of toppings usually available was limited, and in our case they didn't put it on top, and just on the side. It tastes okay, if you kind of want to hit the spot for it, but it's not anything really all that good or special.

Yelp
Came here on a whim on a Friday night and surprised to see every table full around 8-9pm! It looked cute and comfy inside so I decided to try it out. First of all, the staff are so nice and welcoming - they answered all of my questions and were willing to explain lots of things. I tried the soy sauce yakisoba with chicken and was a big fan but wished it was slightly bigger portions (or maybe I was just hungry!) you're able to choose the protein, sauce, and any add ons you want to put in. They also have ramen rice which I want to try next time and takoyaki which they seem to be known for. Definitely a small hole in the wall restaurant but it made my night so I think all Japanese food lovers would enjoy!!
