The Best Soft Serve In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Dolly's is a bakery, but they also make excellent soft serve sundaes. Overachievers. They can be a bit trickier to track down than some of the other spots on this list—they're only open from Friday to Monday, and soft serve is only available from 3-5:30pm or 6pm. But the drippy, over-the-top soft serve sundaes will be worth it every time. The flavors rotate weekly (keep an eye on their Instagram), but we're not sure what could ever live up to the blueberry pancake soft serve we had on a recent visit. The combination of buttermilk soft serve, blueberry compote, corn flakes, syrup, and lemon zest (complete with a mini pancake topper) tastes exactly like the real thing, just better. We'll be back for the brown butter cookie dough." - willa moore, hannah albertine, arden shore, molly fitzpatrick

The 22 Best Bakeries in NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"The Bed-Stuy bakery—formerly Bread & Butter—made a name for itself off a purple sprinkle-covered ube morning bun, with a flaky exterior and a moist, earthy inside. They've kept that around, in addition to massive chocolate chip cookies, and honey buns that will require at least three napkins. But there’s also a freakishly delicious breakfast sandwich with cheesesteak and egg. It’s a hero-shaped sesame milk bread bun, filled with shredded beef, griddled onions, soft scrambled eggs, and housemade Cheez Whiz." - willa moore, will hartman, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah

Google
Perfect stop after a beach day. Two scoops and you can pick your two flavors. The fruity ice especially tastes so fresh. I love that there’s an option for such a little mini size. Cash only.

Google
Awesome spot! I got the homemade vanilla graham cracker & Cookie Monster. My fiance got banana and cherry. Every single flavor was absolutely delicious! We’re def coming back

Debbi Mannino

Google
Cherry coke, espresso chip and S'mores were all delish. We consumed them too quickly for photos, but well worth it on a very hot night.

Google
Great spot, some would even say a Legendary spot in this area. I've only recently tried them out, but I see why they have such a strong clientele. The Strawberry cheese cake Ice cream is like no other, it's to die for. Go and try'em out

Katie Wu

Google
They moved to this new location by the gas station. I've been going to them so I'm so glad they are still open. I love their strawberry cheesecake and my friend loves their cookie monster. There's so many choices to choose from but I'm so happy with my strawberry cheesecake!

Google
This is the definition of the hole in a wall place, that is in top of that far away from the major streets and located in residential area of King's Plaza in Brooklyn. But this humble opinion should not fool you, this place is absolutely great! I was never in favor of ices, considering them a very poor version of ice cream or Gelato. But this place turn my world upside down! If you want to try old-school-Brooklyn-new-york-home-made-authentic-itallian ice, you better find this place and try it yourself. These ices are worth a drive even from the city! They taste exactly as they name, not artificial and very natural!

Google
Best italian ice you can buy!

Google
Talk about an amazing part of the neighborhood, there's nothing better than Dolly's Ices! My family loves coming here. There's always an amazing variety of flavors but all of them are great. They're always very friendly and know you by name. Personal favorites are cannoli and spumoni but they've got anything you can think of. Top stars for Dolly's. Well worth it!!!

Ameer R.

Yelp
The best Italian ice in NYC. Local artisanal product made from scratch with real ingredients. You can taste the quality and depth of flavor. Most Italian ice sold elsewhere is made from a pre bought base that has artificial ingredients. Dolly's is the exact opposite

Yelp
Don't recommend based on the service. I LOVE ice cream and willing to spend or pay whatever price for a good scoop. I went to Dollys and was promptly told that they do not offer samples when I asked to try a flavor. The gentleman informed me that he's been in business 31 years and has NEVER given a sample. That seems strange to me. Although a woman in line said that she's gotten samples. I have eaten ice cream all over the WORLD and I've never gotten such cold ( pun intended) treatment. Who denies their potential life long customer a teaspoon taste????. For that reason I won't patronize or recommend this business. How can you be rude and nasty and expect people to spend money. Not friendly, not community based and very rude. No thanx! Wish I could give 0 stars.

Yelp
Solid no nonsense place. Just a warning this is a cash only establishment, but there is an ATM machine in the deli a few doors down. Also the hours reflected on Yelp are not it's actual hours.... First time I went on a Sunday and they weren't open at all (might be because it was hurricane season). Second time I went, they were closing at 6:30pm, but it was the day before Labor Day so I guess they wanted to leave. Nonetheless I would recommend coming at maybe around 4pm to make sure they're open. A lot of flavors sell out quickly-- coconut is really popular and it was a good icee. For $2.50 for two scoops (small), it seems fair. I finished the icee within ten minutes! You can also buy a medium, or a quart to take back. Their other flavors also seem promising. I also got a vanilla Oreo and it really just tasted like ice cream. I don't know what they do to their icees but they all taste so close to ice cream! Since a lot of flavors may sell out quickly, what is on the official menu is not always available. They will post a piece of paper of all the available flavors left. It is a pretty out of the way place, but if you're in the area and it's a hot summer day, I would recommend stopping by and taking a walk in Marine Park.

Yelp
Great ices (the BEST graham cracker ices ever) but kind of upset that I paid for a pint and got less than that..
google avatar

Minah M.

Yelp
BOTTOM LINE: go...now...what are you waiting for? TIP/S: They serve icees, ice cream and milkshakes. There are to-go pint & Quart containers ...WHO: moi and my peeps WHY: because icees taste happy WHAT: (Deets) Malibu Bay Breeze (yep, like the drink) and Mint Chip are always winners and my go-to flavors. The fruit flavors have little bits of fruit inside, adding awesome texture and mouth feel. I do like the strawberry cheesecake and various Oreo flavors. My recommendation? Have one flavor you're familiar with, and experiment with the other...thank me later. WHEN: April though October WHERE: take away, there are typically two 2-seater benches in front of the store front. HOW: car/ bike/ public transportation, bus: B100 BATHROOM: none WIFI: I dunno DRESS CODE: as you like SERVICE: cordial, pretty prompt. Prepare for long lines, but resist being put off by it, it moves pretty quickly

Yelp
My mother and I both hadn't been since the shop moved and we have been missing out. I used to go all the time with numerous family members and sky blue had always been the best one and it did not disappoint in all the years I've been away. We got the pint's because we wanted just a bit more than a large and while it was more than a bit it was still so yum and delicious. My mom loved the pistachio flavor and said we have to go back any time we pass by. Seems like we're gonna be having Dolly's Ices more from now on

Terrell Y.

Yelp
The best icee and ice cream in town! The staff are always nice, and it gives you family vibes! Great place.
google avatar

Taheefa S.

Yelp
Dolly's is definitely as good as it gets! The original flavor array will always keep you coming back and trying new things. My favorite ice cream changes every time I visit and try something new. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!! One disadvantage is, when you approach the window you cannot help but get his with a heavy tobacco stench from cigarette smoking. I am not sure whose smoking but they shouldn't be doing it in there.

Yelp
Update on 3/23/19 - I literally couldn't wait for Dolly's to re-open after their winter break. It was freezing last night, but I went anyway because I had to try the black cherry cheesecake ices, which a fellow yelper raved about. Holy deliciousness! This flavor is my new obsession. Perfectly mixed into their cheesecake flavored ices were large bing cherries and small pieces of cake! Outrageously delicious! I bought a quart and mixed in pistachio ices, which was insanely great on it's own. I threw some of it in my coffee this morning to make my own affogato! Dolly, her husband and whole family are super friendly! I love you Dolly's!

Patty Y.

Yelp
This is SOooOoooooo good that I have gestational diabetes and I got myself two pints.

Megan C.

Yelp
Best Ices/Ice cream the service is amazing and the owner Dolly is the nicest person. Would definitely recommend stopping in a Dollys!!

Irina S.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would! I will never come to this place and give my money to these people. I have visited this place a few times because the ices are good. However, as other reviews mentioned, the prize is high for the amount you get. When I came a few times before, the gentleman served me and my daughter ice in a plastic cup. Therefore, I never knew it could be served there in a paper cup that leaks in less than a minute. So, today my daughter and I visited the shop, and the blond lady with huge eyelashes served us. Let me tell you guys, and I have never gotten worse service in my life. Her attitude from the beginning was amazing to me. I ordered large-size ice for my daughter, and she, without asking, gave me the paper cup. First, I always got my ices in plastic cups, so I had no idea I needed to specify it while ordering. I asked the lady for a plastic cup, and she said NO. She said that she could not double cup. So I said I would dump my ice into the other cup. She said, No. OMG!!!! What a chip, chip, chip scumbag! I'm sorry to say that, but it's true. I told her that it was the worse place. She called me a Bitch while I was walking away with my child. This pace, NEVER!

Yelp
Best ices in nyc. If anyone wants to challenge this please let me know Don't try to say Ralph's I'll laugh in your face
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
This place is overrated. The staff is rude and the guy serving us was coughing all over the place not even covering his mouth. The prices are high for the amount of ice they give you. I've had better ices at other places where they give you more than they do here. We asked for spoons for our ices and the server got an attitude about it... how else would you eat the ice? First time here and I will not be returning.
google avatar

Nicklette N.

Yelp
This place is the absolute best! If you get the chance you have to stop you will not regret it

Edward W.

Yelp
Simple. No other ices compare. The best Nice people and those "in the know"know dollys
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Anyone who even DREAMS there are better ices on planet Earth better wake up and apologize! The taste, the texture, the flavors... Dolly's IS Ices!!! Creamy like ice cream but refreshing and light. Nothing else even comes close. Peanut Butter flavor is amazing, also snickers, (Choc. choc. oreo is my personal favorite). SR

Jeff C.

Yelp
The Queen Of Ices Nobody beats Dolly's They are simply the best ices So many choices
google avatar

Phillip Y.

Yelp
Delicious and some very unique flavors ices is a must try if you're in the mill basin area
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
I've been coming here since thier last location. Thier icees are SO GOOD but so damn PRICEY! I didn't know luxury Italian ices were a thing ! And the scoops are small too but I still go and spend my hard earned cash on a quart every time I have a craving . And I really hate that you can't sample. I get that people would go overboard but how about at least ONE sample per person ??

Vanessa R.

Yelp
Just moving to the neighborhood I was excited to see an icee spot. The rainbow ice is my go to but at $3.50 a cup I would expect a bit more. The taste is very blueberry forward and way to sweet. I suggest you head over to the pizzeria on Ralph for a well packed and better priced ice.
google avatar

Ayesha A.

Yelp
Dolly's is a small shop that makes homemade Icces and Icecream. They have tons of unique flavors. It's always a head scratcher on which flavor to try next and they are all good. The service is okay. They are not overly friendly but I guess friendly enough. This places is popular in the neighborhood. When the weather gets nice everyone comes out to get one their frozen treats. Its a storefront setup where you go up to the window and order then walk away. There is a bench on the sidewalk but other than that there is no seating available.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
This was once my favorite ice stand. That all changed today. They recently increased their prices and charge $2.75 for a three scoop cup. It was a rip-off to say the least. 3 scoops meant three tablespoons full. Fine, the ice was good, but it was done after the first mouthful. Avoid at all costs. Dolly, thanks to your price increases and shortened portions you lost yourself a once life-long customer. :)

Yelp
I've been going to Dolly's since I was a little boy when my family visited King's Plaza. During a nostalgia trip last year where I hit King Plaza and the Cookie House there, I decided to look up Dolly's as well. It's sad that they lost their original location to the hurricane, but great to see them staying strong. Actually their new location is even better in a way, being right by Mill Basin Kosher deli (I just missed the pinstripes). The owners who served us that day and other times after were very friendly in an old school Brooklyn way; just know what you're going to order before you bother them. Pretty simple concept, ehh? Seriously, some of the people who wrote reviews here need to get over themselves. Just like the old days, they haven't given us spoons (not sure if they even have them). You just squeeze the wax container of ice to eat it. To me it's part of the charm, but I'm sure not all would feel that way. My girlfriend is addicted to their mango ice. As it's studded with chunks of real mango and has tremendous flavor, I can't blame her. My go-to is the same it's always been: the rainbow ice. With lemon, cherry and blue raspberry, it's a blend of fresh fruit flavor with just the right amount of sweetness. I've also had their rainbow cookie ice (yes, that is a real thing), a raspberry cheesecake ice, and a few other more gourmet ices, all of which were consistently amazing. Prices aren't dirt cheap but they are very fair for a gourmet Italian ice. There's a reason Dolly's is still open, and the reason is the quality of their ices. Whether you keep it simple or go for something more ambitious, Dolly's always delivers. Just like it always did. If you don't like this place, get your taste buds examined.
google avatar

Oleg D.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Every flavor tastes like what its named. Everytime I come here, they never disappoint. When the old guy is at the window order like the soup nazi. Be polite, no tasting, say what you want in what size, pay and step aside.
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
So my friend tells me she found the best Italian Ices . I drive down and i pretty much passed this place because it's like in the middle of nowhere. So i ordered a coconut ice and it was like the guy just opened a coconut and made that ice right there on the spot. thats how good it was. Awesomeness all around. Try it !!
google avatar

Mlo C.

Yelp
5 across the board...I've been coming to this place for years, they have so many different flavored to choose from! Milkshakes, ices, ice cream you name it ... I will forever be a loyal customer The banana creme pie is my fave
google avatar

Robyn S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been coming to Dollie's every year in the summer. We love the cake batter ice cream but have always enjoyed other flavors that we tried. The owners are super nice and you can tell it's a cool little spot owned by people from Brooklyn
google avatar

Maurice R.

Yelp
When the beautiful days of summer are here and you have that craving for some ices then come to this spot for the best of the best. They have sooooo many flavors you'll have a hard time choosing. I've been coming here for over 20 years so yea.
google avatar

Charles B.

Yelp
This place apparently has a great reputation, so I had to check it out. I'm glad that I did. The extensive list of flavor options will leave you with big decisions to make. A quart of ices is $11, but I'd say it is worth it. The two flavors that I tried were both really great. I had both pistachio and black cherry cheesecake. I can't choose which was better, so just get them both. They do have ice cream as well, but I did not try it. Their reputation is quite specifically for having amazing ices, not as much for their ice cream. They also offer a far wider array of flavor options in ices than in ice cream.
google avatar

Jonny B.

Yelp
Go elsewhere. The staff is rude and it seems that quality has gone downhill here. Don't ask for an extra cup or anything else. I was told they count them. Plenty of other places to spend your money for better ices & ice cream.

Joey D.

Yelp
Big fan of the ices here at Dolly's. Not overly sweet and always creamy and delicious. Flavor selection is both large and fun. Classic favorites as well as unique, innovative flavors to enjoy.
google avatar

Dave A.

Yelp
I've met 2-year-old infants with more patience than the woman taking orders at Dolly's. She was not at all helpful when our group -- first-time visitors to this Mill Basin landmark -- needed a bit of guidance on what to order. Instead, she barked orders to step aside. Prices were high. We ordered a medium ice cream and two medium ices and a shake and it came to $19. The medium size cups were equivalent to the size the street vendors of frozen ices sell for $1.50, so the 300% markup at Dolly's is too steep. OK, the ices were good. Very good -- especially the cannoli flavor. The shake? Not so much. It had the consistency of milk, with zero evidence of ice cream. I don't tolerate rude service and will not be back to Dolly's Ices.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
Vanilla chip ices with chunks of chocolate in every bite. Nope, Pinkberry ain't got sh*t on this place neither. That's right, stay on the "U" in Brooklyn for the best frozen desserts. This place would get 6 stars for being that much more dangerous to access than Uncle Louie G's down the way.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I've been trekking here from Prospect Heights since they opened way back when in the Grunge Day and you could still hunt snipe in Mill Basin. This was my under-the-radar lace that only I and the resident paisans and the occasional straying kashrut Jew knew about. But nooooo! I see 26 Yelpers have not only blown the secrecy, they stole my thunder as well. I honestly thought I was going to be First Reviewer. Thanks a bunch, fuckers! Anyway, I like the fact that ice part/base isn't syrup sweet. It's pleasantly, mildly sweet. It doesn't taste like a liquified nickel lollipop. The burgundy cherry, for example, has a nice, light cherry essence while being laced with chocolate chunks infused with the cherry flavor. Plus the bits of candied cherry make a nice perk. Their key lime pie has the right amount of citrus bite mixed with candied lime bits. So do I recommend Dolly's? Try the burgundy cherry and key lime pie flavors and you tell me. And for you diabetics who rationalize, such as myself, you can't beat their sugar-free chocolate or cherry. Uncle Lou who????
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
Mmmmm.....Dolly's. I dream of this place. Snicker's ices. I doubt it's really ices, but it's so good, I just don't care! I've trekked out here, whether with a 40 minute walk or an hour and a half subway...it is that good. It is kind of funny to see Brooklyn folks pull up, run and get ices or ice cream quickly. It's worth the trip for the ices. But the characters make it even better!
google avatar

Correy K.

Yelp
Rude people- Love the ices but for ice it cost quite a lot.
google avatar

Louis C.

Yelp
I came here this past summer to see what the hype was all about and I've gotta admit, I was pretty overwhelmed by the variety. They literally had a giant board filled with flavors. There must've been 20+ kinds of italian ices, most of them which I never knew existed haha. Like Giselle said, the customer service was horrible. I was a first timer and I felt like the guy in the window was staring me down and getting impatient when I was trying to decide which flavor to try. Besides that, the ice was decent. I had the watermelon and pina colada. It wasn't anything to write home about but I wouldn't mind stopping by to try other flavors. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you weren't in the area or live around the place but if you do, I would definitely say give it a try.
google avatar

Lea H.

Yelp
Rude people and the sizes are so small youd think its a practical joke. Go to Frozen Planet or Originals Pizza and get a frozen treat double the size for same price. Sooo overrated.
google avatar

Nyceatssss ..

Yelp
Ohhh jelly ring and canoli and carrot cake oh my! Spring has sprung and so has my urge for Divulging into a giant bowl of DOLLYs ICES!!! I love them!
google avatar

Mitch K.

Yelp
nothing else compares. PB n J is the best, jelly ring, rainbow cookie, graham cracker crunch. all amazing the fruit flavored ices are also great but I can never bring myself to get them over the cream ices. if youre there expecting "good service" youre and idiot its a shack on the side of the road, stand back choose what you want order and go enjoy.
google avatar

Lindsey M.

Yelp
Rainbow cookie-flavored ice with real rainbow cookie chunks? I think I'm in love. CASH ONLY!
google avatar

Jacinda S.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Dolly's for years...this is as good as it gets for Italian Ices. They really know their stuff. Vanilla Oreo is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any flavor. Fresh and natural tasting, this is not sugar ice but real Italian ices, infused with flavor. Yes it's in the middle of nowhere - Kings Plaza Mall is nearby, as is Original Pizza (see my other review) if you wanted to get some really damn good pizza. If you wanted to make a day of it, you could. I was there once when this guy drove in 3-hours from Montauk with a cigarette lighter powered cooler in his car to stock up on ices. It's well worth the trip.
google avatar

Jaime N.

Yelp
Red velvet, strawberry cheesecake, graham cracker crunch.... sickkkkk! 10 summer stars! I love you, Dolly's .... But my theighs don't :( Sadly they close from the end of Oct till about April/May but other than that, no complaints
google avatar

DeShaun C.

Yelp
Look at the photo for this place. Do you notice how the picture is tightly zoomed in on just Dolly's and everything else has been cropped out? There's a reason for that. You see, there's nothing surrounding Dolly's. There's a railing on the curb, and a chain link fence on either side, that may or may not be covered with random crap like plastic bags, branches, and other assorted nonsense. Directly behind it is the water, and lots of boats. Oh, and an abandoned factory of some sort. To say the least, Dolly's is a rose growing in concrete. I passed by this place for years without giving it a second thought, and then one hot day, I decided I would stop and have an italian ice. After all, it is one of my favorite frozen things. After my first taste of peach ice (with peach pieces!) I realized I had made a huge error in passing Dolly's for so many years. It should have been a required stop any time I was in the area. The ices are flavorful without being candylike. Fruit flavored ices taste like fruit, not sugar. They have a great variety, but they are not all available at all times, so ask if you're not sure. Service is about as speedy as you'd expect for an italian ice place. "I'd like ______." scrape, scrape, scrape... "That'll be $...here you go....and your change...have a nice day." It isn't in a 5-star location, but it sure as hell serves a 5-star italian ice.
google avatar

Ava H.

Yelp
Yeah, it's kinda in the boonies, but the lines are always long and the ices are always juicy mouth-ed. I'm still trying to figure out which flavor combo is my favorite. Banana Walnut Chip and Chocolate Hazelnut Chip? Pina Colada and Key Lime Pie? Strawberry Cheesecake and Burgundy Cherry Chip? Black Cherry Cheesecake and Graham Cracker Crunch? Buy a small 2 scoop for $2, a medium 3 scoop for $3.75, pint it up, or go for the gusto and get a quart. Dolly's, please keep doing what you're doing, I am your ride or die chick!!
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
Just had my first chance to go to this neighborhood gem. My fist two flavor choices were cantaloupe and lemon. The cantaloupe was outrageous and the lemon was just right Next time I am getting pints and working my way through the whole menu.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
I love Dolly's! The location isn't always the best - Avenue U is busy, and parking can be a pain in the butt. But there are so many flavors; pretty much anything you can imagine. My family goes at least once a week during the summer. The ices are amazing, but consider trying their ice cream, too. Their butter pecan is to die for!
google avatar

Jeannie E.

Yelp
Graham cracker, salted caramel pretzel, red velvet, 7 layer cookie ices!! Watermelon, Honey Dew, Cantaloupe water based Ices are refreshing and crisp and leave you wanting so much more! Dolly and the whole crew rock!
