Domodomo Kō - Review - Uptown - Dallas - The Infatuation

"This is Dallas’s only Korean-Japanese tasting menu, but it’s not the novelty that makes it great. The $95 prix-fixe dinner at this zen restaurant is a highlight reel of big flavors and clean presentations. We love the hwe dupbap, which pairs seven pieces of fresh raw fish with the chewy, crunchy textural buffet of the accompanying vegetable-topped rice bowl. And the cooling wagyu carpaccio, which offsets the fatty beef with bright pickled daikon and mushrooms. If you’d rather go a la carte, you can and should still get standouts like the hwe dupbap, but there’s also assorted nigiri and crispy Korean fried chicken bathed in a soy-garlic glaze." - Kevin Gray

"A New York–style tasting-menu, omakase-focused restaurant offering a seven-course chef’s dinner that blends Japanese and Korean influences. Courses include refined seafood and wagyu preparations such as Arctic char with broccolini, scallop risotto, American wagyu carpaccio, and a hand-roll course; the original NYC location earned Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition in 2021." - Courtney E. After months of waiting we were lucky enough to be invited to the soft opening of Domodomo Dallas (third location after NY and NJ)! I’ve visited their New Jersey location a few times, we were extremely excited and impressed with their signature tasting course (Domokase) which is a first in DFW area, bringing us a different experience to the fine Asian inspired dishes. Located in uptown Dallas, surrounded by lots of business centers and offices. We were greeted with smiles and sincere gratitude from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere and music are amazing and relaxing. The design and decoration were a perfect example of authenticity and welcoming. More importantly the entire staff were attentive and courteous, all to the level of right amount of attention to avoid any interruption or discomfort during your course! Chefs and management team would also check in to ensure food quality and service meet our expectations or any feedback we would provide. (A++ service) I can’t honestly name my favorite course/dish during my visit since each dish was made in order to open up your taste buds! And the courses were designed in order, and to the right amount so you won’t get bored of the flavor/taste/texture one after another. Top-notch to sum up. We can’t wait to be back and spread the words to our friends and family! Give this gem a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Had the omakase (domokase, as they cleverly call it) tasting menu and it was superb. Shortened version: Amberjack with caviar and scallion oil, spicy octopus with Calabrian chile, Wagyu carpaccio with yuca wafers, Branzino, and my favorite dish the Hwe Dupbap (Korean sushi bowl) with mushroom rice, sashimi, pickled vegetables and gochujan sauce. The dessert was a lovely black sesame panna cotta & mochi. Highly recommend! I will definitely be back.

They cook Korean food with a new interpretation that allows you to experience various textures. Compared to Japanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese food, Korean food started to globalize a little later, but it has a great taste and history that is not at all behind other countries. If you want to taste sophisticated and elaborate Korean food, you must try it!

A must try, for a creative 7 course omakase tasting menu. $135 per guest, with special Wagyu and caviar add ons. Service was very attentive, and informative of each course. Each course was very tasty, unique, and pretty presentation. Tasting menu changes every season, and looking forward to try them out.

I had the 7-course omakase at Domodomo for my birthday. There was nothing special except happy birthday logo on the menu and while the dishes were served quickly, the overall experience felt closer to Japanese cuisine than Korean. The presentation was beautiful, but the quality didn’t quite meet expectations. Throughout the meal, I felt a broth or soup was missing to complement the dishes. In particular, the rice bowl (dupbap) had large chunks of ingredients that didn’t blend well together, making each component feel disconnected. Unfortunately, none of the dishes left a memorable impression than I expected.

Sitting in the restaurant as I write this because I feel so compelled…. Course 6: what is it? The gochujang is so spicy with the rice it completely blows out your pallet for what is supposed to be the “sushi” dish wish some quite soft and delicate fish. It is supposed to be a chirashi? Is it supposed to be “build your own handroll” with a pretty nontraditinal handroll rice style. The rice has so many ingredients in it it’s hard to get it into the handroll. Do I put 1 piece of fish in the handroll or 2? Do I eat 1/2 the fish like sashimi and the other half as a handroll? I’m just so confused by what is attempting to be achieved here for the dish I admittedly was most excited about. Other dishes have been good and savory or lite. The scallop was amazingly satiating. The fish was over salted as if the person making it were a man who was either large or at least 6’1. (I find people with larger statures tend to ‘pinch’ more salt than those who are smaller). For $135 I’m just left wanting more. I went and got a hot dog after my meal at a bar because I was still hungry. Going into this meal I’d never thought I’d say this but I think the granny smith popsicle at the end was my favorite. And I don’t like Granny Smith apples or popsicles very much. Somehow as a sushi, fish, scallop lover and that was the star for me so bravo there.

Google
DOMODOMO KO is seriously a must-try in Dallas. Their tasting menu is delicate and mind-blowingly good, with flavors you won't find anywhere else in the city. Plus, the staff is awesome - super friendly and informative. If you're looking for a special and unforgettable meal, this is the spot!

What an experience. My parents and I were visiting Dallas for the weekend and I suggested this place, which to my surprise they ended up liking this place more than I expected. The thing with omakase or any course meals is that there usually tends to be a dish you might find unpleasant, but the flavors to every dish was a pleasant surprise. It does help that domo is japanese/korean based and my family is from Seoul so the flavors were easy to approach, but nevertheless we had a great time. Domo tends to be on a cheaper side compared to other omakase as well so the bar is even higher for other restaurants I will be visiting now. Service was excellent as well, hope to be back soon :)

Yelp
This restaurant took us a while to try but my whole discerning group loved it. The food and service was Michelin level quality and presentation. The omakase was presented simultaneously for all four of us. Timed and staged perfectly. The flavors were fantastic and unique. The style of the restaurant was very modern with warm tones. We really appreciate the acoustics to have a conversation without the need to scream. If you're on the fence, get off of it and make a reservation. We will definitely be returning

Yelp
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Having been to many 3 star Michelin experiences, you get to a point where you aren't wowed that much anymore. That was not the case here. The restaurant is in a beautiful new development in Dallas. It was quaint and clean. The place itself is pretty stunning. Every course felt special. The wine was served correctly. The staff was attentive. The pace was perfect. The desserts were both absolute winners. We agreed that we could see this establishment being in the Michelin guide. I think what may be holding them back is that there is no a la carte menu and it's the same omakase menu since they opened. The flavors justify the 5 stars and wr are excited to see this restaurant become a big name in the Dallas scene. We also thought the price point was just right. And to clarify, we would come here over many Michelin star restaurants any day.

Yelp
Where to start? DomoDomo Jersey City and NYC has been a reliable staple for years while I lived there. DOMAKASE for $89 with an assortment of a la carte to choose from and delicious cocktails? It was a fun, casual vibe that you could go for any occasions. The sushi stood on its own and the meal could have been an occasion to splurge or a casual weekday dinner. Having recently moved to DFW I was excited to try this new DD concept. I'll start with the good: The presentation is a step up from the OG Domakase. It falls in line with the new upper scale omakase establishment they're going for. However, that's where it ends. The not so good: Flavors and atmosphere. Our server was knowledgable in regards to the menu, but we didn't feel any air of happiness while we sat there. It felt all too serious. The manager/owner? Asian gentleman with a suit came to help with one of the courses but didn't say a word or smile. I usually don't care, but again i'm comparing to the Domo that I know from back home. On to arguably the most important thing: Flavors. None of the dishes which came out left me wanting to order more if I could. They were all either better or worse than the last. More often times than not were too acidic and not well balanced (i.e the capaccio with Taro crackers, crackers were great.) The rice that was brought out during the sashimi portion was really random and didn't add any value. We were told we could make hand rolls, but with 7 pieces of sashimi (one piece cooked black miso cod) and only 2 nori rolls. What was the point? I missed the hand rolls options of the old Domo. The whole experience was giving trying to hard to pivot into finer omakase dining. The OG Domo would have been beloved here

Yelp
Interesting concept, I heard it's popular in the New York area. Let's get this out of the way... the sushi is pretty forgettable. However, the other dishes are quite good. I especially like the carpaccio dish. They really went over the top in presentation as the "cracker" for this dish was held in this big "vegetable garden" setup. If you order the caviar handroll, they roll out this giant cart and make it in front of you. Like I said, they really go all in with presentation. The negative is you might leave Domodomo hungry since the portions are on the smaller side.

Yelp
One of the few times I thought a high end restaurant was worth it. This place is modern, offers a delicious array of omakase selection, innovative and interesting dishes that switches things up after each course. I couldn't be happier. I really love how the restaurant looks with its modern Japanese/Scandinavian inspired decor. It's beautiful! Each omakase course is really delicious and the sushi fish was fresh! All the plating was done so beautifully that some of them was almost too hard to eat (well, not really!) hahah. I highly recommend this place for a date

Yelp
I had a great time at domodomo. They offer valet parking and there's also a parking lot/garage nearby too. This restaurant is more like a casual fine dining omakase experience. Menu changes monthly I believe. My all star favorites were the scallop juk and American wagyu yukhoe. Each dish is beautifully presented and explained. They change out your dishes and utensils after each course. It's like a modern take on Korean fusion dishes. It's definitely filling for $135. Would be a super cute date night spot. Highly recommend trying out!

Yelp
A new must try in Dallas! I love their location in NYC, so I was so excited to hear they were opening in Dallas. The ambience is modern and beautiful. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was incredible! My friend and I did the omakase and every course was amazing! Some of my faves were the opening course with the oyster, the nigiri were excellent, and the yuzu shiso apple sorbet ice pop at the end-divine! I can't wait to come back soon!

Yelp
Domodomo is a splurge-worthy meal and experience. There's only one omakase menu - though with the option for add-ons or upgrades, such as salmon to wagyu for one of the courses. There's an extensive drink menu as well, including some fun non-alcoholic options. My favorites were the wagyu, the salmon, and mulhoe, as well as all the desserts. Each dish is very carefully prepared. Many have a backstory/foundational inspiration in common Korean cuisine, and they use their ingredients very creatively, playing with tastes and textures. Some fine dining places run the risk of doing "too much" without the creativity and quality to back it up, but Domodomo hits a good balance. The space is fairly small and doesn't seat a ton of people, but the staff is very attentive to each party there. Overall very happy we tried it out.

Yelp
Loved domodomo. Admittedly, I had some reservations as I've found that several restaurants from LA and NYC come to Dallas and become a bit more about the scene and the name than the food. Domodomo was all about the food and it was fantastic. The omakase, seasonal menu was full of flavors which were well thought through. I loved the presentation, particularly the sushi one with the stackable bowls! I obviously won't go into detail as the menu will continue to change but I loved the oyster and the main dishes of the acrctic char and the A5 wagyu which came with 6 kinds of "side dishes" which were essentially there to eat with the meat. The dessert of the granny smith yuzu shiso popsicle was so unique and absolutely divine. The service was as attentive as can be. I think the price point is just right for the amount of food you get with the quality. I'd take this place over a Nobu any day. We had booked via Resy easily enough but I'd recommend trying this place out before all the hype hits!

Yelp
OK, so this is my best kept secret!!! I absolutely love this place. Now given that is not a place that you go to on a regular basis for special occasions because of the price. But you get what you pay for.! Usually tasting menus can leave you hungry but this satisfied us! We didn't have to grab a a slice of pizza after the menu is exquisite. You can taste the freshness in each bite. I can't wait to go back. I cannot say enough honestly I don't have anything negative to say about this place! I just wish they changed their menu more often. That way I can go all the time.
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
Reservations were easy to book online through Resy. Parking may be a bit tricky but they offer valet parking during peak hours. Read the signs before you park around that area. Overall service was okay. We were given the wrong check and only noticed before signing it. They did make the corrections. A few dishes were overly salty but the best dish was probably the dessert.

Yelp
Definitely a very special and unique dining experience. Every item of the omakase is carefully thought out and presented. The sushi itself was some of the most incredible sushi that I've had. If you are looking for a truly memorable event, this is the place for you.

Yelp
First time at DomoDomo with some friends and the experience was amazing! The pace of the courses was great, and the staff was extremely attentive. We got pretty full from all the courses and were presently surprised by the flavors of many of the dishes. The inside is a bit smaller than I thought from pictures and videos, but it's cozy in a good way. This is a great experience to have with friends, family, and partners!

Yelp
This checked all of the boxes. Intimate dining. Beautifully presented, inventive and delicious dishes. Alcohol free, sparkling Riesling wine. Impeccable service. Go ahead and splurge. You have my approval.

Yelp
WOW. We were absolutely FLOORED. Hands down the best meal and "eating experience" we have EVER had. Service was absolutely impeccable. With so many omakase places now in Dallas, DOMODOMO takes it to another level. The different flavors in each dish, the presentation; we were just completely wowed. Everyone there, each server, the sommelier, is helping out at every table. For just recently being open there are ZERO kinks that need to be ironed out! It was such an amazing experience and also very reasonably priced compared to other omakase/plated dinners. It is not all sushi. It is a perfect dance of textures and flavors that ends and makes you want more. Although we were so full! Beautiful space, small and intimate. Water glasses and wine glasses were never empty. Cutlery got changed at every course. My husband dropped a bit of sauce on the table and within 20 seconds someone came by to quickly clean it up. I am not one to review often, but this place is 5 stars. I even embarrassingly took photos of a few courses but I wish I did more. I cannot express how wonderful this place is. Dallas is lucky to have you DOMODOMO! We will be back!

Yelp
Great new omakase spot in Dallas! The 7 course meal felt more like 12 courses with the amount of food you get. They do get you with some of the upgrades like A5 Wagyu or Caviar hand roll which are additional. But overall was a great experience and won't doubt if this makes it on a Michelin guide down the road. The servers were very attentive and they even if a nice wine list.

Julie L.

Yelp
Love omakase and tried a lot in CA and NY and overseas. New to Dallas but tried other omakase in town. I would say this one very soso in terms of taste. Flavors are lacking, their kimbap roll is actually a dupe from Michelin star restaurant Junsik's signature dish and it is not a good dupe. Sushi were not good. Seasoning of the rice non existent. The wagyu carpaccio was good. Then I really didnt understand the risotto in a omakase menu. Did wine pairing the traditional one. Bad ones. Might be the worst pairing I ever had. I hope it gets better with time

Kiona L.

Yelp
10/10 experience. The food was immaculate, & the service was top tier. Worth every cent! I will absolutely be going back without question
