Yelp
Admittedly after walking in I asked to see the dessert menu and with a quick glance I knew I was staying for my last bite for the night. All the other restaurants around here had similar menus to the next which made it seemed almost hopeless. They were very busy. Seating seemed to be difficult with the constant flow of people sitting and enjoying their food then the employees quickly trying to turn tables for the next customer. The gentleman bussing tables did make it hard to sit for a moment after we finished our meal to enjoy. He quickly cleaned our table immediately after I had my last bite which sucked little. I saw him try to clear a table while a customer's kid still grabbing the remaining french fries from his basket of food. The waitresses were constantly moving, and I never saw them stop for a moment, waiting on customers and taking orders. Ours was so sweet. Fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a scoop of ice cream which called for me. And I was not disappointed. The ooey gooey PB&J with the crispy crust was delectable with a spoonful of homemade vanilla ice cream. I loved it so much that I entertain my curiosity of making fried PB and J sandwich at home.

Yelp
I've heard about this place for years, but had never been. I love places that have stood the test of time. But unfortunately, I didn't get much out of this place at all. 1. The burgers are deep fried. Yes. You hear it right; deep fried. The burger was ok at best. Nothing had this standing out as some fantastic or better burger. I've had tons of better burgers elsewhere. 2. Fried bologna sandwich was underwhelming. Not the best quality bologna in this sandwich....giving it a slightly ground bone texture. 3. Memphis Chili: the chili looked good and had a nice consistency. But there is some different spice...kinda resembles a burnt coffee taste....which is way forward and off putting to eat. I'm not a fan at all. 4. Fries were the best part of the meal. Get some salt in the fresh cut first...they were decent. 5. Service: terrible. The place wasn't even busy when we went. Had plenty of staff all around it appeared. But everything took for-ev-er! I hate to say it - but it's a place I never need to go back to.

Yelp
When your business is over 100 years old, you're doing something right. Stopped in for a cheeseburger and root beer float for the road. Depending on when you come in, be prepared to wait, but it will be worth it.

Christopher V.

Yelp
Drunk food not worth going outta your way for. Service was friendly, but slow. They get pretty crowded because of the location and all the tourists. Decent burger, but overpriced and overrated. 2.49 stars.

Mallory S.

Yelp
Service wasn't to bad had to wait a bit, went during the noontime rush. Atmosphere was really nice clean. Food is very good home fries cooked to perfection.

Patrick O.

Yelp
If you're a tourist in Memphis, this should on or near the top of your list of places to eat. In case you didn't know, Dyer's has been dishing up burgers for over a 100 years, so they must be doing something right. They claim that they have never changed their grease that they cook in. They strain it daily. And they will add to it as needed. But they never throw it out. I got the double burger with chili, fries, and a beer. I thought it was awesome. It tasted great and the fact that it was in one of Memphis's oldest institutions just made it even better. The service was friendly and fast. I imagine it can get busy at times. But when I dipped in on a Monday afternoon I darn near had the place to myself. Again, this is the type of spot that is unique to the city. I'd highly recommend checking it out.

Lucy M.

Yelp
For the good of the order... I will say this.....Dyers is a good "I am drunk, I need to eat something to absorb some of this alcohol" type of spot. Its a seat yourself type of spot that does not allow outside drinks. Our server was very friendly and attentive. It was extremely busy. My only annoyance was I ordered a single HAMBURGER and her response was "you know it doesn't come with cheese, right"??? I may have been snappy with my "duh, that's why I ordered a hamburger and not a CHEESEBURGER" response. I was annoyed and concerned by the thought of ppl confusing the two.

Caroline D.

Yelp
Our server Pam is a Cutie Patootie!! She's so friendly and sweet!! Service with a smile is guaranteed. We are both from different countries but she was so kind and helpful. Amazing servers makes all the difference. The diner is old school, clean and welcoming, The burgers were soooo delicious!!

Kathryn J.

Yelp
Look, this review is completely affected by the fact that I went for a late dinner on St. Patrick's Day. It's probably one of the busiest days on Beale Street, and by 7pm people had clearly been celebrating for a while already. The result was that it took me over 45 minutes to get some food. The food is great- but not worth a 45 minute wait. That being said, if you could go to Dyer's on probably any other of the 364 days of the year you will probably have a great time. The burger was really special, and came with all the toppings including onions and pickles. The fries had some magical seasoning that was a little salty, a little sweet, but completely irresistible. Plus the restaurant is a cool throwback to another time. Try it out- as long as it's not really busy!

Yelp
Have you had your Vitamin G yet today? The "G" is of course for grease. Dyer's Burger in Memphis is famous for deep-frying their patties, a tradition dating back to 1912 when Elmer Dyer opened his diner. Elmer reused the cooking grease daily, believing it enhanced the flavor. Since then, Dyer's has never replaced the grease, claiming each skilletful contains some of the original. The cooking process involves smashing hamburger meat thin, frying it until crispy, and briefly dipping the cheese in the grease. The burgers, topped with mustard, onion, and pickle, are renowned for their rich, seasoned taste. When Dyer's moved to Beale Street, they ceremoniously transported the grease in an armored car. Check out this Video from Hamburger America: Dyer's Burgers https://youtu.be/URM04TnbIr4

Yelp
Had the double burger and fries. Fries were excellent. Love the soda with the small ice. Burger was good not great. Burger is basically deep fried so doesn't have that crispiness of a smash burger. Prices are really reasonable for this area of town. Good value.

Sonia S.

Yelp
I am a sucker for a gimmick so I wanted to try Dyer's burgers made with over 100 year old grease. I will say I am not a huge red meat fan so please keep that in mind for this review. I felt like the burger tasted like a "symphony of grease." You could definitely tell the flavor of it. It was a bit too much for me and I maybe finished half. I think if you're a fan of greasy burgers, you would love this place. I will say I appreciated how fast service was and how attentive our server (Glinda) was to our table. Our drinks were maybe halfway finished & she brought us more drinks. The atmosphere was a standard diner which I liked. It was pretty empty around 1:30pm on a cold Saturday which I didn't mind. Overall, a quick place to grab lunch if you're a burger fan. No real vegetarian options here.

Robert A.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch after walking around all morning. The inside has a nice retro vibe to it. There weren't many people in there so we sat right down. Our waitress came over and took our drink orders then followed up with our food. We went with a chicken tender sandwich and a Dyers single combo, root beer float, and a soda jerk float. The floats were great especially the root beer. Our food came out quick and tasted great. They have been around for a long time and I can see why. The prices were very reasonable.

Yelp
What a cool spot on Beal st. Stopped in for one of their famous burgers. It was definitely a good burger. It reminds me of an old school burger joint from back in the day. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

K W.

Yelp
Upon recommendation from a Memphis resident, we went to Beale street, bypassed the bbq, and had a burger. Nothing special about the establishment, but was a GOOD alternative.

Amie S.

Yelp
The visuals of the spot lend to a hole in the wall 50s themed diner, and it's lots of fun! The staff was really friendly, and super busy. We just wanted a snack so we got a soda jerk float and a deep fried Twinkie to share. We had to check out this 114 yr old grease! We weren't disappointed and enjoyed our time there

Chris W.

Yelp
Dyers is a Memphis must try. It's a great place to grab a quick greasy bite to eat to help soak up everything you drank at the clubs on Beale St. I ordered the double double (double meat and double cheese) combo which included fries and a drink. The double double is 2 patties and 2 slices of cheese along with pickles and onions on a soft bun. Dyers is special because they "deep fry" their hamburgers in 100 yr old oil - and I must say that it's absolutely delicious. Their fries were nothing special and to be honest a disappointment. They were very soggy and over salted. If you want to save some money I'd recommend just ordering the burger. Service was friendly but watch out for the bill if they charge you gratuity. I came in alone and ordered to go but they still charged a 2+ 20% gratuity which is fine since I'm on vacation and want to support the community but others might not be understanding and feel like they're taking advantage of tourists.

Ken L.

Yelp
If you are in/near Memphis, Dyers is a must. Short answer: Best burgers ever. Longer answer. Best f-ing burgers on the planet.

Julie S.

Yelp
Cheap, fast eats on Beale with friendly, fast service. Diner, retro vibes and the chocolate milkshake was delicious! Onion rings were a little over fried but it was a fun, quick bite.

Carla G.

Yelp
Unfortunately the service was like we were being punked. We were asked our order very promptly but it went downhill after that. It became very obvious the server was avoiding serving us correctly. My son ordered a milkshake that never came until 30 min later and after going to the counter. We asked the server 2 times and they ignored us. Husband ordered a Coke that never came asking for it twice. Asked for ketchup the server ignored us and cleaned tables. Forgot part of our order and had to be reminded- still never received some of it. 45 min after ordering chili the server came and told us they were out of chili. That was the only item my husband ordered to eat. Went to the counter and another server came to help out. Overall it was a waste of time as we walked out unsatisfied.

Nazeema B.

Yelp
Right in Beale street Reasonable prices: $7 for a double patty, double cheese burger -amazing milkshakes -great service -tasty burgers -a classic place to visit -diner feel

Jason G.

Yelp
The best burger! The door guy at the Irish pub recommended Dyers. There was a wait at the pub due to Justin Timberlake concert, and said I would not be disappointed with the "100 year old grease". Not sure if that was a marketing thing, as I did not see it advertised. But whatever the grease is, it's well worth it. Had a double combo with fries, and then had an ADDITIONAL double. So good!!!!!

Rebecca E.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot! I've lived in Memphis my entire life and I've never heard of or seen this place! A few of my coworkers wanted to try the it out for a group outing. Once you come in, you seat yourself. Good to know, because we walked in and were just looking around for a minute before someone yelled for us to sit where we'd like. I ordered the single patty burger (added bacon) with fries, ranch for dipping. I will say that the food had a pretty good taste to it. Personally, I like my burger seasoned a little bit more but, I ate every single fry that was on my plate! The sweet tea was really good! It's the super sweet tea just like us southerners like :) Our waitress was sweet! She got our order correct for the most part only confusing a few sauces. She kept our cups full and took care of what we needed. One complaint was the size of the burgers. The single patty was too small and left us wishing we'd ordered the double! That's exactly what I'm planning to do my next visit! It also didn't feel super clean in there. Like, you could feel that 100 year old grease they're cooking with on the chairs! Lol but seriously, it's a great spot and I'll definitely return and I'll get a milkshake as well!

Yelp
Burger and fries = o.k. Condiment Conundrum: Let's talk about the condiment caper. It's not every day you discover a place charging extra for ketchup like it's liquid gold. Fifty cents for a dollop of tomato joy? Is it Heinz 57 or highway robbery? And don't get me started on the mayo scandal - a whole dollar for a smear of the creamy stuff. It's almost like they're charging for the privilege of enhancing your burger experience. Sneaky, Dyer's, sneaky. Home of the Blues, But Not the Condiments: While Beale Street may be the Home of the Blues, Dyer's seems to be the home of the upcharge. It's a culinary performance where the burger is the headliner, and the condiments are the surprise guest stars that cost you more than a backstage pass. Dyer's is the place where legends are born, secrets are guarded like the crown jewels, and condiments come at a price higher than your nostalgia for the good ol' days. A word of advice: bring your own ketchup, and maybe a side of skepticism.

Luis S.

Yelp
Found this place while exploring Beale Street. They were able to sit us right away and our party was a total of 6 people. First of all, I couldn't pass up a good shake. I got the strawberry milkshake and a single hamburger combo (so I could get some yummy fries). The hamburger was good, but I should have gotten the double to get some more meat. I ordered mine with cheese to make it better. The fries tasted like they were hand cut. The onion rings I did not like because they were very greasy. The staff was very friendly and attentive at all times. Overall, it was a good experience.

Camden G.

Yelp
The service is absolutely horrible, waited 30 minutes for a shake and had to get another sever to get me it. Waited 30 minutes for chili just for them to tell me they were out. The food was average wouldn't recommend this place.

L.J. B.

Yelp
You seat yourself here, which would be nice to know by the person at the door instead of walking to the back of the restaurant to be met by a wall of staff telling us "Sit wherever". The food was mediocre for $45. The burgers had no flavor, seasoning whatsoever. The fries were soggy, under seasoned and in pieces. Not my best stop in Memphis.

Just A.

Yelp
Been waiting for years to try this place so when I finally visited Memphis again, I made sure to try it. The waitress was super friendly and helpful but was extremely busy. Fries were good and there were plenty in the order so I didn't finish them. Especially since the star of the show was the delicious burger. We had 6 people in our party and ordered 4 different variants but they were all kind of the same thing. Everyone agreed that they were good. Very busy and packed but the music was great. Clean enough for how busy they were.

Melanie C.

Yelp
Legend says the grease is 100+ years old. I loved this little gem on Beale street. My husband and I did our own little taste of Memphis so of course we had to try a burger. It was so juicy and delicious. The fries could have cooked a bit longer. Service was great.

stephanie s.

Yelp
Old school diner, which was totally fun after a night out on Beale. We split a burger which was small but all we needed later in the evening and the chili cheese fries . Everything was full of flavor. It was almost like you could taste the history. I would most definitely return

Aj G.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was fast. I'll tell you a secret. If you get the fried peanut wand jelly sandwich. Ask for it with Bacon. I call it a fried PB& AJ. lol no seriously get you one it is delicious.

James T.

Yelp
The food is very average at best, service was slow, tourist trap! This is what really pisses me off: PARTIES OF 2 OR MORE WILL HAVE A 20% GRATUITY ADDED TO THEIR CHECK ALL CHECKS WILL HAVE 20% GRATUITY ADDED AFTER 9pm ALL SALES FINAL 2.5% Service Charge on all Credit Card Transactions So mandatory 20% for slow or bad service, and 2.5% additional charge to use my credit card? NO THANK YOU! Much better places to eat at in Memphis.

Karen S.

Yelp
We and another couple stopped here on a recommendation and we were sorry we did. My husband ordered a burger with bacon and no bun. they left off the bacon and served it on a bun but still charged us for the bacon. Service was slow and our waitress was completely indifferent. She could have cared less that were we there. The burgers were paper thin and the fries were cold and greasy. I don't think they changed the oil in several days. Our shakes were fine but we won't be back. The place was dirty and food on the floor. Wait staff was just standing around and chatting with each other. They charged an automatic 20% for 4 people. We would not have tipped them at all!

Shivon R.

Yelp
Delicious, mustard based double cheese burger I had with some sweet tea. I will be back!

Ken O.

Yelp
I had walked past this restaurant the night before and it looked really good. So, I decided to try it the next day when I was in the area. After reviewing the menu, place the order at the counter. I decided on the Bacon Burger with Fries. It was later in the afternoon; I was able to be locate a table right away in this large diner atmosphere. Few minutes later, my meal was up.... the meal was just what I expected. Right amount of seasoning of the fries and the burger was juicy. Great place and great food. Highly recommendable.

Ian B.

Yelp
Service was absolutely terrible. I have never been made to feel like so much of a nuisance. To be fair they only had one server but for a business to only have one server on a weekend and then push back the time to be seated 45 minutes after the time we were told to come back is crazy. We finally left without trying it so maybe their food makes up for their unwelcoming demeanor and general annoyance with our presence.

Jaden B.

Yelp
My roommate and I went to this restaurant after the Boise State versus Memphis football game last Saturday. We went around 7-8pm and this place and Beale Street wasn't busy. Service was quick and the waitress we had (Chabrie) was nice and friendly. We both got the single burger combo with fries. Only minor problem was that we both got pickles, mustard and onions when we didn't ask for it; but not a big deal. Overall, the burgers and fries were delicious and so was the root beer floats we got.

Wiley M.

Yelp
Classic burger and it is a good one. The fries are 7/10. Service was pretty great! Cool local option in downtown Memphis.

Wing Head Y.

Yelp
Hours of operation clearly reads 10pm close on Tuesday's. Door was locked at 9:28pm with tons of people eating burgers through the window ...right in front of my face.

Everett W.

Yelp
I have always wanted to visit Dyer's, and I was not disappointed. Upon arriving I was greeted and told to seat anywhere. The waitress took my order, and was back with my lemonade. It wasn't long before I knew it my burger was right there. I no sooner finished my lemonade, there was a refill. I have never seen service like this, normally I'm trying to get the servicers attention at other places. The staff was very friendly, and polite. My visit must have come after the lunch rush, there were a lot of people. In looking around not only was I getting great service, but the other tables were too. The burger I had was great, there were plenty of fries, so much I couldn't finish them. The place was very clean, for a burger joint you expect to see fries on the floor-not a single one on the floor. Other Burger stores need to come here and see how to do customer service.

Andy S.

Yelp
Beale Street is always a scene, and I love all that it has to offer. That being said, I only eat at a couple places on Beale, and these are places that I trust. When I want a burger, I go to Dyer's. I try to sit at the counter and chat with everyone working. It's certainly a unique scene to watch as they cook the burgers in the big cast-iron pot. My restaurant tip would be ordering a double as the extra patty balances out the cheese and bun. Enjoy!

Amber B.

Yelp
Stopped by here to try the burgers. The patty itself did not have any flavor to me. It totally relied on the toppings.. such as the onion.. cheese .. ketchup and mustard. It didn't taste unique to me. The fries were really good though. The inside was tight and especially at the bar, you can hear all the good gossip which in our case was a little entertaining but I can see how it would have been awkward if you were a tourist or something. Overall, prob won't be running back here but If it's open late and not busy, it wouldn't be that bad.

A.J. W.

Yelp
Service wasn't great. Waited 30mins to get food. Had to get up and ask the server for our beverages. Tables that sat down after us were serve before us. Fries were soggy and not crispy. Overall taste of burger 6 out of 10. I won't be back. Mixed crowd of people, young, old.. Onion rings 1 out of 10 extremely greasy, we ate maybe 3 before throwing in the towel and tossing them to the side. Also side note make sure u have cash because it's an additional $2.50 charge for debit or credit cards. Also they include the tip for parties of two or more people. Hopefully this helps someone choose the right place to eat while visiting Beal Streer

David N.

Yelp
Dyer's Burgers on Beale Street is a Memphis institution with grease that was apparently around when the Titanic sank in 1912. The grease is strained daily, so it isn't exactly the same cooking fat that they've been using since their creation, but I'm not quite sure if any of this information will make me feel any better... than I already do when I'm eating their food! Be aware that the last hurdle you must mentally overcome before you eat is the scent of the notorious grease that fills the air. The host/server welcomed us in and offered us to sit anywhere available before bringing menus. It's an inexpensive burger joint, and the menu online is accurate to what you will see in person. The table should have napkins, a salt shaker, and a pepper shaker. The burgers come standard with mustard, pickles, and onions, so do request to your liking. They are indeed greasy, but they're also made-to-order and delicious! The burger does taste "different though familiar," which I'm attributing their signature grease to, but I would still recommend to salt and pepper your burger to your preference. The fries served here are salted generously and lean on the softer side with only a barely there crisp on the outside, which I'm actually a huge fan of. Although I don't have them pictured, the chicken tenders were amazing! Crispy, juicy, seasoned, and humongous! While my party and I were here, they do have food tours that join the restaurant here and there, which provided a neat historical and cultural backdrop for our dining experience as we listened in.

Kristina S.

Yelp
We were excited to try Dyers Burgers after reading the reviews about the nostalgia. We were even more excited to see that it wasn't packed when we arrived on Friday afternoon. That's where our excitement ended. No one greeted us upon entering. We had to ask if we seat ourselves upon which the waitress said yes but never looked up. There were only 3 other parties in the restaurant - but no one came to take our order, ask about drinks or even offer us a menu. My husband finally went to the register to get menus and ask if we order there or if someone would come by. About 15 mins later a waitress came over to get our order. During this time of confusion we noticed a sign on the wall that stated a 20% gratuity could be added to checks of TWO or more. I guess that's why there's a lack of service here. ?? Anyway - our food came out and it was not good. The cheeseburgers had NO flavor. Like I understand we're ordering a FRIED burger from grease from the early 1900's but I expected SOME flavor. Isn't that the point?? There was nothing. I had to add salt and I rarely ever add salt. Strange. The onion rings were just pre frozen and you get 5. My daughters fries looked promising but 1/2 of them were undercooked. My son ordered the chicken tenders with roll and it was a good sized portion and tasted decently. We also ordered shakes. While they tasted good they were only partially full. Disappointing. In addition another family came in after us and waited over 20 mins for anyone to acknowledge them. We noticed the two waitress arguing over NOT taking their table!?! Again they were NOT busy! (maybe that's where the added gratuity plays a part??) One of the ladies in the family was so offended she left. Very sad. Anyway - we had high hopes and left with a bad taste in our mouth. Pun intended.

Ricky S.

Yelp
It was a Sunday night and decided I wanted a good burger. Looked up Dyers on Yelp and saw the business hours state they would be open until 11pm. Ordered a Uber got there at 9:30 PM walked in and the lady said they are closed I wouldn't be so disappointed if I knew this before I paid for the Uber.

kathy l.

Yelp
The burgers are good and greasy and cheesy, the fries are perfect, and the wait staff was great!

David P.

Yelp
Omigosh, the onion rings are superb! The burgers are good too, but use your napkin to dry the oil off the bun. Good milkshake.

Heather N.

Yelp
I ordered a double double combo and a side of onion rings. The burger was really good. Yes it's greasy but its a deep fried burger. You gotta expect that. Fries and onion rings were fresh and delicious. The cherry coke was one of the best I've had. I think maybe they used cherry syrup? I'm not sure but it was fantastic. Prices are inexpensive. Worth a stop if you're craving a burger.
