Dyer's Burgers on Beale Street is a Memphis institution with grease that was apparently around when the Titanic sank in 1912. The grease is strained daily, so it isn't exactly the same cooking fat that they've been using since their creation, but I'm not quite sure if any of this information will make me feel any better... than I already do when I'm eating their food!
Be aware that the last hurdle you must mentally overcome before you eat is the scent of the notorious grease that fills the air. The host/server welcomed us in and offered us to sit anywhere available before bringing menus. It's an inexpensive burger joint, and the menu online is accurate to what you will see in person. The table should have napkins, a salt shaker, and a pepper shaker.
The burgers come standard with mustard, pickles, and onions, so do request to your liking. They are indeed greasy, but they're also made-to-order and delicious! The burger does taste "different though familiar," which I'm attributing their signature grease to, but I would still recommend to salt and pepper your burger to your preference. The fries served here are salted generously and lean on the softer side with only a barely there crisp on the outside, which I'm actually a huge fan of. Although I don't have them pictured, the chicken tenders were amazing! Crispy, juicy, seasoned, and humongous!
While my party and I were here, they do have food tours that join the restaurant here and there, which provided a neat historical and cultural backdrop for our dining experience as we listened in.
