"Venture up to Dunwoody and head straight to E. 48th Street Market for Italian-style sandwiches stuffed with everything from eggplant parmigiana and meatballs, sausage and peppers to portobello mushrooms, chicken salad, and Italian pepper ham. There are 26 sandwiches on the menu, but the meatball sub tends to be the market’s most popular, followed by the Stoffato with salami, mortadella, capicola, and provolone dressed with lettuce and special sauce. Over 140 Italian wines are in stock at this humble market, so be sure to ask for a pairing to take home." - Eater Staff

Google
Stopped looking for some local italian sausage and they have a chicken italian and hot version. They also have prepped raviolis, other pastas, salads and a selection of italian goods, oil, wine, deli, and bakery. Their pizzas and sandwiches are delicious! We also brought home stuffed shells and a canoli. Both were delicious!

I received Impeccable and informative service during my first visit. I had the #7 and added turkey and onions; I also tried the chicken noodle soup which was homemade and with real white meat chicken, I also had the lasagna bolognese on rigatoni with a touch of Alfredo sauce and all of these dishes I’d definitely order again. My bf also had the meatball sub not pictured. While in the store we also picked up the bottle of almond flavored syrup pictured that was also delicious when mixed into our beverage. I have already made plans to return and share a meal with friends.

Everything you want out of a NY style Italian deli. Friendly staff, family-owned and operated, and full of local regulars. Great place for sandwiches, Italian cold cuts, groceries, desserts, Italian imported olive oil, and more.

Google
Love this store! Just like Italian stores back home. Amazing selection of wines, and Italian grocery. Let's not forget homemade pasta, sausage, and Italian beef. The bakery is addicting. This place is worth the drive.

Google
Went for the first time today. My wife and I split 2 sandwiches based on the recommendations of the staff, the tortellini pasta, and a cannoli cake. All were delicious. Will be coming back.

Google
Subs were just ok which was the biggest letdown. Was expecting more for an Italian market but all 4 of us left feeling let down. Meatball sub - no flavor Italian sub - very basic Other subs were just a letdown It’s a cool looking market but the subs and the bread just had no flavor and very basic, especially for paying most $60 for 4 subs, 3 chips and 3 drinks.

Google
Came back to edit my review as we had them cater my wedding! They did such an amazing job and the food was absolutely delicious! Their servers were great and everyone loved the food. Thank you everyone at E. 48th! The best Italian deli EVER.

Chris

Google
My god, this place. It reminds me of a deli I love in Chicago. This deli has no equal in Georgia. Eat here and be happy. Eat here and be addicted to their food forever.

Anne P.

Yelp
This is the best if you want authentic Italian food. Bakery is amazing. Also the chicken salad is wonderful I feel as if I am back in Little Italy in Chicago!

Yelp
My IG reels have been showing me Italy travel reels. There was one specific reel where someone was eating a sfogliattele with a cappuccino for breakfast, so naturally I had to find where I can find this beautiful pastry. I googled sfogliattele in Atlanta and this place came up. Tucked away in an unambiguous shopping center is this wonderful Italian grocery/deli/restaurant. It has a very small seating with maybe 7 tables. Once you enter, you're greeted with pasta (both fresh and boxed), bottles of wine, sauces and Italian candies. You start on the right once you enter the door, which will take you to some fresh items and encased antipasto where you will also order from their menu. This is an old school, no frill kind of place. They have tons of hero options, pastas, salad. During this trip, I ordered an Italian beef hero with mild giardanera, portabella hero, caprese and tomato salad, cup of pasta fagioli and of course sfogliattele. They print a ticket and you pay at another counter. This place was packed with people waiting for their food and getting fresh deli meat. Between placing an order, paying for my food and getting my food only lasted 10ish mins. Service was snappy and effective. The worst part was waiting to dig in what I ordered when I got home; I lived a solid 35 mins away. When I was able to dig in, it did not disappoint. My personal favorite was the pasta fagioli - it was tasty and perfectly seasoned with the right amount of pasta and beans. My portabello hero had this wonderful crusty bread with peppers and mozzarella. My husband enjoyed his Italian beef hero but thought it was small. The mozzarella caprese salad was decent, I could have skipped it or maybe because it was in a to go container so the salad greens were a little wilted by the time I got to it. The obvious star of the show here is the sfogliattele, which quite literally weighed 2 lb each. It's not fresh as I hoped but I snagged the last two they were selling for the day. It has this wonderful citrus cream, which the outside was still flaky but it was more chewy. All this did cost around $42, which is not too pricey but small places like this need to stick around so I didn't mind spending money. I highly recommend this family-owned business.

Yelp
I feel like I've been living under a rock all this time. All my cool, OG Yelper friends already reviewed this place... 10+ years ago. Not only that, this place has been here for like 30+ years. I didn't know that. I guess I never explored far into Dunwoody. This is a tiny place. They're able to cram everything from wines, cheeses, a deli, a cafe, bakery, and a dining area. They know how to maximize the space they have. When you walk in it's kinda crazy, they have a ton of stuff and feels overwhelming. The deli is in the back, so head there. Just turn right when you enter and head to the back. They serve sandwiches, pizzas, soups, and pasta salads. They also have some dessert items. You order at the counter, they take your name, and then they give you a ticket. You give the ticket to the cashier and she takes your money and gives you your drink. And yes, you can get just plain water for free, if you wish. They're not strict, authentic Italian. They have your favorite Italian American items like Meatball subs. I was glad because pure Italian sandwiches are boring. The sandwiches are great. The bread was fresh and chewy. The ingredients were also fresh and tasted great. The pasta salad was great too. You can dine in, but be warned, the space is limited. It would be better to take out than to eat in. They encourage sitting with strangers if you can't find an empty table. Also, they don't seem to have a public bathroom. So if you need to pee, poop, or wash your hands, you might not be able to. The people here are friendly. I liked it. I would love to try out the rest of their menu.

Cheryl D.

Yelp
A slice of NYC in Georgia. The olives taste straight from Italy. The family who owns and runs this establishment could not be nicer and there are always some fantastic treats that can be found. Give it a chance and you won't be disappointed

Julia H.

Yelp
Great little Italian market! My friend and I went and had a sandwich to eat on their patio with a bottled Italian beer. It was pouring after we ate so went back inside and got a glass of wine and back to patio.

John V.

Yelp
What a great place! Good food and a great selection of Italian wines. We came late to the party because everyone here are regulars. I've never seen a place where everyone is so happy - the customers and the staff. This is going into our regular food and wine rotation.

Jamie L.

Yelp
A little slice of Italy tucked away in Dunwoody. Truly a gem! Go to the back to order fresh sandwiches. The place is packed at lunch but calm after 3pm for casual browsing.

Jody M.

Yelp
I had been anticipating coming here. Being from Baltimore there's an Italian market call Trinacria that makes me swoon. And there are really no Italian markets in Atlanta. I came for the #7. Hubby got the meatball sub. First #7. Nice amount of meats. Bread was just ok. It was kinda dry. Definitely not enough of their special sauce. Mostly oil and vinegar and a little bit of spices. Hubby's meatball sub had such a little bit of sauce, it was dry also. The meatballs had good flavor. I also brought some Alfredo sauce. Really good. Hubby got an eclair and loved it. They have lots of Italian staples. It's a bit out of the way for us. No matter what, we were glad we went.

Yelp
I passed the coworker lunch test. There's definitely pressure to find good food when going out with coworkers. Everyone seemed super pleased with this local spot! This spot is a pretty hole in the wall place. You can get fresh deli at one side of the counter and fresh pasta and sandwiches at the back counter. Apparently the fan favorite is the #7 which is pretty much an Italian. This made the choice more simple as the old boss and I just picked this. The boys selected something else which they said were fairly good. The sandwich comes in an 8 inch baguette-type bread. I guess you can either substitute the oil and vinegar for mayo (I think they only have spicy mayo according to a coworker). It was a subtle drizzle of oil and vinegar, nothing that would make the sandwich super soggy. I devoured the #7 so I forgot to snap a picture. The stoffato, salami, mortadella, capicollo, and provolone were neatly packed and tasted oh so good. The sandwich wasn't toasted, but the bread was thick and chewy as I'm thinking it's made in-house. It was a really fresh sandwich. None of these ingredients were overpowering. If you aim for The UPS Store then E. 48th Street Market will be a couple of doors down. Though there are table and chairs around, I see people to-going their lunch. Would I come again?! Yes!

Yelp
Great sandwiches - good authentic Italian treats . Limited stock , hopefully more variety comes in.

Charles F.

Yelp
What an amazing market! If you have experienced traditional Italian markets you will love this place. Amazing selections, great food, great service and atmosphere.

Derek R.

Yelp
Finally made a trip during the holidays because I was in search of REAL Italian cookies for the Christmas season because I despise those fake ones that are at the supermarkets. I have pretty high standards for Italian markets because I'm used to authentic and old school spots in Northern cities--but, like with BBQ out West (versus what you get in the South) I also know how to temper my expectations. So, although I didn't fully expect to find the cookies here (nor did I actually find them), I was disappointed in the entire store. Although it positions itself as a "market," I felt the market limited offerings were also not particularly unique or special or hard to find elsewhere. Frankly, it's a small deli/cafe disguised market, and perhaps I'll come back to give their sandwiches a shot. However, it will be done an equally tempered expectation, because it wasn't clear how much of the meats, cheeses and breads they actually make.

D.F. C.

Yelp
Prosciutto and fresh mozzarella sandwich was outstanding. I added pesto and tomatoes, which was lovely. The muffaletta was also very good, with delicious, soft bread and a lovely olive tapenade. The Caprese salad was pretty pathetic-- lots of lettuce and only three 1/2 slices of mozzarella and tomato. Would not recommend. Maybe stick to the sandwiches? Cannoli was nice. Not too sweet. Nice texture and crispy shell. Younger women who helped us were lovely. Older gentleman was not friendly and was impatient. Thankfully the 2 young women made up for the grumpy old man.

Yelp
O Holy Macaroni. This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. E. 48th Street Market will celebrate their 37th year in business this September (2023). That's a very long time in Georgia Restaurant years. If you haven't been, you need to go. Every good thing you've heard about this place is true. And they really do treat all their guests like family. This is not just another cliché. E. 48th Street Market is a staple in Dunwoody. The place is small, but there's a lot in there, so be sure to explore. Enjoy the experience. In addition to fresh made sandwiches, made-in-house pasta, tapenade, or cannoli, there's a large variety of fresh-baked breads and take-home-to-cook-yourself Italian meals. They even do Illily coffee and a smart selection of wines. The sandwiches are what got me to visit in the first place. I've fallen in love with the #7 Stoffato: Salami, Mortadella, Capicola, Provolone, with Lettuce & Special Sauce. But there are over two dozen authentic deli-style sandwiches to choose from. All made to order. You can't go wrong with any of them. Next time I think I'll try the #26 Italian Beef with Mild Giardinera. Holler if you're coming with.

David M.

Yelp
Expensive selection of Italian type stuff. Large and impressive sandwich menu and pre-cooked food to take out. However, the guy behind the meat counter has to be the most unfriendly unwelcoming person I've ever met. He makes me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable and I'm not going back. The sandwiches have very little meat and are too expensive for what you get. Not really worth the money.

Pam L.

Yelp
This small deli and sandwich shop is not to be missed. My favorite is the sub with mushrooms, mozzarella and roasted peppers. They have other prepared foods and hot dishes. Don't miss this gem!

Dazziyah M.

Yelp
I love love love this place! I think about it 24/7 lol. *I always get the number 18 which is turkey. Lettuce, tomatoes, and I add provolone cheese. *sometimes I add cucumbers whenever they have it, but most of the time they don't, so I get my own. *I also added peppercorn and salt with their vinegar, mayo, and my own mustard. (They usually give Dijon mustard that I am not a fan of.) But overall I love their bread, it's very soft with a light crunch and all of their produce is so fresh! The store is also really cool. So many different pastas, sauces, cheeses, and more. Will give an update if I ever shop there. -not Covid friendly.

Andrew W.

Yelp
great stuff. This New Yorker approves. Got the antipasto salad. they also have the Manhattan special soda, which is impossible to find in Georgia.

Sean M.

Yelp
Fantastic sandwiches! Cannot wait to go back and try others. Staff was very helpful and willing to answer questions. The meat counter has tons of options and butchers were very willing to help us find the perfect spicy sopresseto for our home pasta dish.

Carlie M.

Yelp
Came in to pick up desserts this past weekend. The shop is tucked away in a shopping center. It's tiny inside but they have some good stuff! Meats and cheese, Italian goods like pasta, wine and chocolate. We got some cakes from the pastry case. We got the cannoli cake and ricotta cheesecake. I'd like to return to try some of the food as well!

Cathy P.

Yelp
Great little deli/market in Dunwoody. It's tiny inside so I recommend looking at the online menu before going so you can have a better idea of what to order. They freshly slice the deli meats for your sandwich. The bread is hard on the outside but soft inside. Everything is fresh. Check out soups and desserts too. I had the: - Stoffato sandwich: Salami, Mortadella, Capicola, Provolone, with Lettuce & Special Sauce (but I did oil and vinegar instead for a more authentic sandwich) - Cannelloni cake- Chocolate and vanilla cake layers with cream filling. So good!!!! Not much seating though. There is a small covered eating area in front,, that's the only drawback on a cold day.

Yelp
Love this place reminds me of all my favorite Italian foods when I lived in New York . The service the ambiance is awesome.E48th street Market is my new church . If you want authentic Italian everything "fresh "this is the place . We come from Brooklyn baby. Gary Jessica

Cory S.

Yelp
Where to start , service above amazing , ambience perfect and food there is no chart high enough it's the greatest Italian deli in the state. I have been coming here for years, found on accident and fell in love. I have never had a bad item and I think I've hit the entire menu. Some stand outs are the chicken wings ( typically Friday ) the pizza and any of the sandwiches. Also can't go wrong with the Italian chili . If you are looking for an amazing sandwich, pasta , bread or anything this is your place .

Sean M.

Yelp
Awesome little Italian restaurant/market. Had a great chicken parm sub. Also grabbed some fantastic salami for later. Quick and friendly.

Ida N.

Yelp
Best Italian sandwiches I've had in my life. This family owned market, deli, and restaurant is an absolute hidden gem. We will be frequenting them as much as possible!!

Chris C.

Yelp
If you're a NY/NJ/CT/Philly native who lives in Atlanta, this place will fill a desperately needed hole in the local food scene. They are my favorite local bread bakery. They make excellent sandwiches, have an excellent deli selection, a nice affordable Italian wine selection, good pizza dough. I don't think there are any other businesses within 5 miles of my house that, if I heard they were closing, would cause me to become legitimately despondent.

Shawn D.

Yelp
I'm a yankee from Pittsburgh to be exact. If you grow up in Pittsburgh you you know a place called Pennsylvania Macaroni Company ""also called Penn. MaC by us natives". It's a large Italian market with great selection and great food. It was always a treat going there. Well this spot reminded me of home in Pittsburgh. It's a small place but it has great selection for its size and the food is delicious. I'll definitely be going again.

Vyvy H.

Yelp
Little Italian market you are looking for. Small special ingredients you won't find at any large grocery store. This place is filled with the little treasures and secrets you'd only know about from your Italian grandmother and her kitchen. This family owned business literally is a dream. Do you want to make a real Italian dinner? Fresh handmade pastas or ravioli...sauces...italian meats...got it! On your way out you'll be greeted by your uncle you didn't know you had. He will have a fresh sandwich with their own fresh ingredients put together for you, maybe sample some fresh dishes they're working on? And treat yourself with their own handmade cannoli's!! I'm not Italian but they make me feel and wish I was! Adopt me.

Steffi M.

Yelp
Great everything coffee, bread, atmosphere salads paninis cakes and the market is always amazing

Linda K.

Yelp
Good sandwiches and bread selection. Plus lots of items to take home to make a meal- Italian forward

Andrea S.

Yelp
My favorite italian place for the meats or just a sandwich, the customer service could be more friendly to customers but as long as they continue to have amazing products to a good price is simply the best

Elaine F.

Yelp
Love the sandwiches and chips here! There's a cool market with lots of pastas, meats, and sauces. Will definitely return!

Marcel O.

Yelp
Service and vibe of the place is great. Food quality and flavor is average. Place wouldn't last in NY very long.

Bill S.

Yelp
Great authentic Hoagies. Felt like I was back in Philly. Will be back next time I'm in the area!

Shaiqiyah C.

Yelp
This is such a lovely family owned market. The space offers an area for you to sit and have a meal in the front or pick up some items in the back area. I was greeted upon entering and they kept asking if I had every that I needed. They offer fresh Italian cheeses, meats, pizza kits and various wines. I tried their house made olive oil which had such a beautiful flavor. I have never had olive oil that offers a hint of sweetness to my dishes. I also tried their house made mozzarella cheese. It was creamy, light and melted well. I made my own pizza that evening and it was amazing. This market is a gem.

Richard N.

Yelp
My wife and I tried this Italian deli for the first time this past Wednesday. I ordered the chicken cutlet hoagie and she had the steak hoagie (#8 - East Sider). The Italian bread for both sandwiches was the star of the show; it was super fresh and delicious. Although they are priced fairly, our hoagies did not contain large portions of meat. I also had a cup of the pasta fagiolo. I got a cannoli for desert and it was fantastic. The service was fast and friendly. The cashier was super nice and delivered our food to the table. We dined in at the deli but my wife was disappointed that the deli has no public restrooms; she was told to walk across the parking lot to the Chick-fill-a to use their restrooms. That pretty much kills the deal for a return visit by my wife. The deli also sells several Italian grocery goods and wine. I will return and get some bakery items. The Cannoli was authentic and awesome and the eclairs looked good.

Boba F.

Yelp
I have not been inside, but this authentic Italian bakery produces AMAZING Cannoli. I rarely give 5 stars. The Scoop: So I was looking to gift a restaurateur-friend of my hubby's and mine authentic, amazing Cannoli - their fav. Made a couple calls and was disappointed with the answer to my inquiry. Called-up *E. 48th Street Market* and BINGO! "Yes, everything that we make is from scratch". That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Over the phone, calling from out-of-state, I purchased several dozen Cannoli, asking for them not to fill the Cannoli, and put the filling in a separate container so that I could gift them as freshly as possible. Best reply, "NO PROBLEM" we have a kit for that!" They jumped over the moon to accommodate our schedule, coming from out-of-state. How grateful we were for really working diligently to accommodate us! WOW! I CANNOT wait to get to come back and actually go indoors to see (taste- who's kidding) aaaaaaall that this bakery and market can offer this globally-traveled foodie! THANK YOU, E. 48th Street Market. And please use 00 Flour in (more) recipes :D :D :D

Susan M.

Yelp
The sandwiches are the bomb. The best around no matter where you go. We call ahead. We are treated and served like family. Try the pizza dough it is authentic. Rolls and bread are fresh and crispy. Without even mention how great this NY style deli is. The selection is outstanding. The meats and cheese are best in business selection. I have shopped and eaten in house multiple times. Go there. You will love it.

Vanessa C.

Yelp
I cannot fathom why I have waited so long to pop into the amazing little gem of a market! While it is small, it is mighty!! They have so much good stuff that is just not easily found in the southeast...braciole, Sicilian sausage, torrone, fresh pastas and sauces and soooo many other goodies. I'm so happy to have this little spot in my life...my waistline, probably not as happy...but, hey, when in Rome (or Dunwoody)

Rachel H.

Yelp
I stopped by on my way to a nearby park and I'm so glad I did! What a small hidden gem. This is a true authentic Italian deli/market. The place is very small and quaint. You get the mom and pops vibe right when you walk in. There are so many imported italian pastas, meats, wines, sauces, oils, condiments available for purchase. When you walk toward the back, you'll find the deli. It's usually very busy but the staff is super welcoming and service is pretty quick. We ordered the ziti and an italian sub. The sub was amazing. The ziti was really good but I probably would get something more exciting next time.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
I am Italian, moved here 5 years ago and not one day goes by without me saying I miss Italian flavors. Well, I found a way to go back to those flavors at 48th Street Market. First of all, they sell Sperlari nougat which is produced in the city I am from, Cremona. Conquered right there! Then they have the cookies I grew up eating, Ringo! Come on! We had their calzone for lunch, a meatball calzone and a mushroom one. Very very very good. Served with a marinara sauce, one of the best I have had in my life. This marinara sauce feels like grabbing a tomato from a market in Puglia and just biting into it. Sweet and full of flavor. They bottle and sell this sauce. Highly recommended. On Tuesday they have a lunch special soup+calzone, the Pasta e Fagioli was also yummi. Got some Taralli and drank San Benedetto water, Italian spring water is so light and pure! They make a mozzarella, I was craving a good and fresh mozzarella to eat. The kind they make is more to be used on a pizza, I find it too dry and flavorless to use it for a caprese salad. That was not my favorite but everything else is amazing. Cannot wait to go back to try more and get some of those cannolis for my daughter. Prices are just what you would expect. Obviously higher that the Italian prices but nothing that would stop you from buying and enjoying! Love it.

Adam T.

Yelp
Legit Italian deli in Atlanta. Family owned and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and I wish it was closer so I could visit more often. Fair prices and the ambiance is so cozy. Will definitely return to this little gem

Jared J.

Yelp
OK, it's about time I write a review after four visits. First, for you the reader, know that I'm a somewhat recent (5 years as of this writing) born and bred Brooklynite transplant to Atlanta. This place feels like home. I come here and I feel like I'm a kid again who's mother would send him to pick up meats and bread after church for Sunday sauce. I see a variety of pasta shapes that I'm familiar with and it blows my mind that places like Publix or Kroger have such limited offerings of pasta vs. Key Food or similar NYC grocery stores where one side of an aisle is dedicated to just pasta itself. I can get ricotta cavatelli here and that's huge for me. The prosciutto sandwiches I've eaten from here? For the most part, fan-fking-tastic. I say "for the most part" because I love sun-dried tomatoes with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella, and I can't get that added on. I don't fault them for not having them as it's probably a condition of the market where southerners don't eat them, so they don't use them on sandwiches. So if I were to be angry about that, it would be directed to the people of the ATL that just don't know any better. My only other critique sandwich-wise is that I prefer roasted peppers in slivers rather than diced, but that's just a personal preference and no fault of theirs. Looking at the reviewers that have had grievances over gruffness; I haven't experienced that. I'll fully accept that it's because those of us from the tri-state area just have different colloquialisms than southerners and I just may not notice because it's what I'm used to. Give me a head nod and a "can I help you?" any day over a smile and a "have a blessed day". I tell my wife that if we ever have a kid while we're living here, that the kid will grow up watching "The Sopranos" because no way in hell will I have her speak in a southern drawl saying stuff like "I'm fixing to go to the store". She thinks I'm joking, but I'm not. I'm really not. I commend the staff for commenting on those reviews, apologizing for the experience that those people may have had. Personally, I say let those people get thicker skin. But again, that's just me.

SM M.

Yelp
I love this market deli! They have simple, delicious sandwich and a great market full of Italian specialties.

Chris Z.

Yelp
This is a highly recommended Italian market/deli with a great following. We ordered two sandwiches for lunch (#13 Soppressata with Lettuce, Roasted Peppers and Fresh Mozzarella and #15 Prosciutto, Fresh Mozzarella & Olive Oil) and had great expectations. We are both from NYC and truly miss 'real' NYC Italian food. In our opinion, the sandwiches were just 'good'. The bread was delicious and the quality of the meats was on par, but the #15 felt like a skimpy sandwich. The #13 had the feel of what we missed, but it was just a bit lacking. The rolls did seem smaller than what we expected too, but, as I said, were very good. This is a highly recommended place, so we will go back and try other items, but skip the sandwiches.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Yum, try the lasagna you will not regret it. In fact, bring home a tray for dinner and you'll be a hero!

Kenny H.

Yelp
My wife swears this place reminds her of home, and that's good enough for me. We have visited a couple of times while in the area and every item purchased has been perfect. We recently picked up some baked goods as treats and heros for dinner. The quality of the bread and deli meats was better than anything else we have had in the area. I can't wait to bring my parents here.

Karen B.

Yelp
I've lived in the area over 5 years and only recently discovered this culinary gem. The sandwiches are great and the espresso is even better. And they family that owns/runs the place are the nicest.

I love this market!!! Quality ingredients. When I am nostalgic for the torrone of my childhood, or want to make a big pot of sauce, this is the place I come to purchase the ingredients! I also have purchased fresh pasta sheets to make lasagna. This store is jam packed with wonderful ingredients and also prepared foods if you want to hang out and have a sandwich or some pastry. Wonderful bread. Just the best of everything!!!
