I love this locals spot. I’ve tried almost everything and I’m never dissatisfied. I don’t know what I like more…the crunchy tacos, the taco salads or their plates. I also like to get a side of fried plantains to give it that sweet comfort…shhhhh don’t tell nobody ;)

I stopped by El Burrito Express to have a quick bite. it is a small, no-frills corner eatery with an expansive burrito menu. No line or wait on a Thursday morning so service was fast. I ordered a grilled chicken burrito and I enjoyed it. It's pretty standard stuff but for the price it has great value. My favorite taquerías in the Mission has gone way too expensive these days. There is no seating inside but a standing stand and a row of bench outside.

I haven't ate here in years like literally 7-8 years because the quality of the food wasn't that great but today I decided to give them another try. I'm soooo glad I did because my burrito was delicious. The chunks of carnitas were big and flavorful and I love the amount of cheese they added in the burrito as well. It's not a mission burrito but it's perfect to have in the neighborhood.

Got the El Americano burrito off a recommendation from a friend. Tasted pretty good. Tasted And looked very similar to a burrito you would find at Taco Bell but with better ingredients. I know that sounds bad but it was better than it sounds. Line was decently long but it didn’t take long to get through. I was there maybe 15 minutes. Burrito was decently sized and comes with chips and salsa. Filled me up. Price was decent. There are definitely cheaper burritos but there are also more expensive ones as well. I’d recommend it for a quick bite to eat.

I used to live in the Mission so going to Farolito or La Cumbre were usual events. I love living in the Sunset but miss the delicious burritos from the other side of town. Thanks to Google Maps though I found this place and it is awesome and close to my house. A very full featured taqueria with delicious food. Their homemade corn chips are fresh and the best. You cannot go wrong ordering off the menu at El Burrito Express. There is not much of a place to sit and eat with only a small counter on offer. My recommendation is to phone in your order, swoop in on a bicycle and get take out so you can enjoy some fantastic taqueria cooking at your own place.

SerpAPI
Pretty expensive food for the amount you get, that's if you order the specials. Food takes a while to be served and even longer when there is a line. The place is a hole on the wall, expect to order take out. Not the cleanest place either. There's is a large selection of food, so if you like it, you won't be short on options. This place is fairly popular with the neighbors since it's the only Mexican joint within walking distance.

Little hole in the wall with delicious food served consistently at affordable prices with a great menu , lots of choices. Been eating there since I was 18 years old , I am now 60 and sadly disappointed quite often if I eat Mexican somewhere else. Make sure to try 2 of my favorites , the Chili Colorado is off the hook , melts in your mouth . No where makes it better than here and the pork mango taco is absolutely mouth watering , its savory flavor and the fresh mango salsa together is a dynamite combination, you may want to order 2 of them to avoid having to order a second time. I cannot say enough about the food , try it for yourself , you won't be disappointed but the customer service is sometimes not at its best but please be kind. They work very hard there and fast most of the day , the place is packed from the time it opens until closing time. ENJOY!!

Hard to hear. Burrito was good. Though not as packed as Guadalajara or Farolito. But still nice to have a burrito in the Sunset.

Yelp
Solid local spot for tacos, burritos, nachos, breakfast plates y más. I used to eat here a lot 10 years ago but haven't been back for a long time. The tacos here are much bigger than a typical street taco, I liked both of mine. The carne asada costs extra, but it was super flavorful and tender and I would recommend trying it! The carnitas were tasty as well but not too salty, they needed the salsa to add more flavor. Next time I would ask for a lime, which would take everything to the next level, as it felt like it was missing something on its own. The chorizo and eggs breakfast plate came with a generous portion and was delicious. Quick service, perfect for a lunch break! They have some counter seating available if you want to dine in.

Daniel S.

Yelp
I love this place! The prices are reasonable and the burritos are excellent. The chorizo is especially good. The wait is usually not too bad, especially considering how busy they can get. I will mention that one time I made the mistake of ordering churros and it took them an extra 25 minutes to make them after my burrito was ready... I think they may have forgotten? That said, everything else has been amazing! In addition to the excellent food, the cherry on top is that they don't charge any of those ridiculous hidden fees that so many other restaurants in the Bay Area are sneaking in. The price you see is what you pay.

Summer F.

Yelp
When I don't feel like traveling far for some tasty Mexican food this place hits the spot! Been coming here since I was a little kid for over 20yrs and it's been consistently delicious all this time. You can never go wrong with the burritos, taco salad and tacos . Also love that they have a value menu too for when you want a lil something more or need to save a few extra bucks. Yum yum! Also the employees are friendly and super quick. Check it out if you haven't yet!

Caitlyn M.

Yelp
Back again for their expresso burrito! It never disappoints and is always delicious. The sauce that they use for their wet burrito is soooo good.

Juan V.

Yelp
When you are in the Sunset this is the best option for a burrito within miles. This place has some different types of options for different styles of burritos. You can get burritos with fish, french fries , shrimp and tofu. You can also get a burrito that is rice less at great prices.

Alex H.

Yelp
This wet burrito is amazing! U guys need to stop making food this good, You're responsible for our weight gain. lol I think I just ate too much! Glade I made this decision

Kalen L.

Yelp
Best burritos in SF. Fresh and quality ingredients. The Bronco Burritos is my favorite. They have the best nachos.

steve t.

Yelp
I've been coming here since the late 80's and the foods never disappoint me. All plate entrees, burritos, tacos are always good. The free chips they give are fried and they're too hard. Besides the foods, the cashier sometimes make us feel unwelcome. Most of the time she doesn't smile or anything. Surprisingly she greeted and smiled today which is rare. The place is small and only has a few seats on one side of the window. It's not the cleanest place though, counter is alittle sticky. Wish they would get something and clean it since there's only one counter. Wouldn't take much work to do so.

Sharon A.

Yelp
Charged us $0.25 for the "bag fee" when we ate our food there. I didn't notice until a day later when I was going through our receipts. Stop cheating your customers.

Bryan L.

Yelp
Been eating here over a decade. I always get the nor cal burrito. It's massive and flavorful, comes with chips and salsa, salsa verdes the favorite. Don't waste your time or money at underdogs, if you want the real deal come here and I guarantee you won't leave the place hungry, or disappointed Great food , great service.

Antonio A.

Yelp
Sunset's nice neighborhood taco shop. Love that they have plenty of vegetarian friendly options. The food was also light, and tasty. This is because you can enjoy the food and its flavors without any of the lard. Recommend the el cheese burrito, and their vegetarian menu. The restaurant has a nice little seating row with a TV to chow down your meal. The team even decorated the restaurant for Christmas, which adds to the warmth of this family-run restaurant. Will definitely return when back in the neighborhood. Great job, Feliz Navidad!

Pauline C.

Yelp
Absolutely atrocious service. Never coming back. You guys always screw up the orders and don't have things ready on time. I'm 20 min past the "ready by" time and it's not even made. Ordered at 45 min ago. Gotta get it together. Divisadero needs to show you how it's done.

Arielle H.

Yelp
Best burrito in the city. Always gets my order correct. Always super friendly. If you're looking for fire Mexican food - this is the place.

Stacy H.

Yelp
EDIT: The owner promptly reached out to me, apologized, and investigated the timing of our order. We appreciate their quick response both on Yelp and email to follow-up. We look forward to returning and trying their El Norcal burritos next time! ORIGINAL REVIEW: Ordered two El Norcal burritos at the counter, specifying to remove sour cream on both for dietary restrictions. Cashier completely keyed in the wrong items, instead charging us for two El Burritos with double the amount of sour cream. Waste of our money and time, as one of us could not consume their food!

Liv A.

Yelp
Gave EBX another try after many years of hiatus. I'm glad I came back to learn that the food is much better than what I remember. We ordered two plates with various proteins. The first plate was the two tacos. My husband wanted carnitas and chorizo. The other plate was seafood fajita, but I asked for grilled chicken instead of fish. Service was friendly at the takeout counter. It took a bit of time for our order to be ready but it didn't bother me, knowing that the food was cooked to order. After we went home, we opened up our take out containers. There was so much food! More than enough for 3 people. We couldn't even finish in one sitting. Everything tasted good. Only minus one star because my husband said that the carnitas were a little dry and he didn't care for either of the salsa choices. Overall, good value and best Mexican food in the neighborhood!

Jami K.

Yelp
El Bronco (carne asada) is simply the best burrito. Our goto in a pinch. Why are we in a pinch so often?

Erica K.

Yelp
We always go here for their Steak burritos, however today I was surprised that there wasn't a line and now I have the million dollar answer. To switch things up, we ordered two Steak burritos and one El Fresh Mix and referenced their website however during a time where COVID and inflation are at an all time high, the prices looked too good to be true. I called numerous times-there are certain instances they forget to put their phone back on the stand or their line is busy because you hear a beeping sound. When I was able to speak to someone, I asked them for an El Fresh Mix's cost then an El Tofurrito's, and even they admitted the prices on their website are outdated and to reference their UberEats and DoorDash menus, which doesn't make sense because those prices are inflated due to service and delivery fees. I decided to commute to their store to order from their actual menu board, and it's ironic because on my way there I passed by Underdogs Too-their menu looked attractive in terms of pricing and ingredients but I digress because these two restaurants are not apples to apples. Upon entering El Burrito Express, I noticed a stark difference in that there wasn't a long line, the majority of people waiting were food delivery drivers, and the menu board's prices were higher than the website's. The tip process was odd because the machine glitched a little and didn't seem to like my choice until I confirmed again. The cashier was able to give me a paper menu since I was hoping in the future I could use this as a reference for a phone order, but *surprise surprise* the paper menu's prices are not accurate either and don't match the menu board. What is the point of a paper menu if the prices aren't even updated? You should just recycle all the paper menus, update your online menu, and post a QR code on the outside of your restaurant if you don't want to keep replacing new menus across the board. While the burritos were edible, I found the El Fresh Mix to be lacking in vegetables and very heavy with black beans. I just checked my bank account and noticed I was overcharged in comparison to what I thought I was paying for on the receipt. There wasn't any signage or disclaimer near the register that there is an extra charge when using a credit card, plus I spent +$30. It's very sad that during a time where restaurants are struggling due to COVID, inflation, staff shortages, El Burrito Express decides to pull sneaky gimmicks.

Andre M.

Yelp
Went here for my lunch break and got the El Bronco with Chile Verde. Perfect size burrito if you don't want to have that food Colma feeling. Very fresh ingredients and burrito was hot with temperature the entire tim. Small place on the corner but good vibes and attentive service. Definitely recommend!

William W.

Yelp
They make the salsa correctly. And the frijoles. And the guacamole, and meats, + they have sangria y cerv

She R.

Yelp
I've been coming to this Little burrito spot since the late 90's. One of my favorite places cemented in my heart for Bronco style burritos that consist of a choice of protein, beans, avocados, and cheese. My fav is still the shredded chicken w/sauce burrito..so damn juicy in every bite. I've also visited their second location on Divisadero which I think, taste different. I much prefer the bronco burritos at the EBX on Taraval! The ingredients are all the same but I think the cook at the Taraval location cooks with more heart and more flavor lol! Overall, don't change a thing at this location please ever!

Wayne P.

Yelp
Generous portions! Everything on the menu is delicious. It's easy to tell if a business is doing well by its clientele. EBX is the only decent fast food (Mexican) takeout in the Parkside/sunset district. Service is reasonably fast even when it's crowded,it's probably best to call your order in & pickup. If you order on site you'll probably have a 20 minute wait if it's busy. There is a counter inside with stools but it's too crowded & loud during lunch/dinner hours for me also a bench by the store window outside ( hard on my butt ). Realizing that it's hard to cook for everybody i do have to say my 4 star rating is because the menu is a little salty for my taste. To be fair to EBX most people probably won't even notice. The cost for a satisfying meal won't break the bank.

Andy M.

Yelp
Food is good but service is always slow not sure why. Their not that busy but seems like it always takes a while. There was two people ahead of me and I ordered a taco salad and nachos and Itstill had to wait 35 minutes. Hmm

Cosimo A.

Yelp
The burritos are good. The burrito was flavorful, the steak was ok. But the red salsa had too many pepper flakes, and tasted sour. The wait was a little long, but that is to be expected as they were sort of busy. The restaurant is a little small, it is kind of a take out place. Otherwise, good place!

Cheri L.

Yelp
If you're in need of a nacho fix, try out the one at El Burrito Express! When they say "Grande Nachos", they really mean Grande- the plate was HUGE. This is the perfect snack/comfort food when you need it. There are a ton of toppings and everything was perfectly portioned to the chips. I like the chips that they use too, which are a bit more dense than the circular chips some other places use. This is great option if you also need to bring to a potluck. There are some cons, however, to this place. I usually order ahead of time for pick up and in store, there really is no system to separate in store or pick up purchases. There is only one cashier and everyone else is kind of just working behind the counter, so you're kind of stuck also waiting in line with everyone else. The other negative side is that the nachos are just plated on a paper plate and then foiled over if you order to go. This is ok if you're going to eat it right away before everything gets all soggy, but to an event it may not survive. Overall I think the place is ok if you have a craving, I know I find myself wanting to go back every once in a while (maybe more often than I should haha).

Yelp
Overdue review, several weeks ago I needed one more stamp on their frequent buyers card for a free burrito. I called in and ordered 2 burritos thinking that they would stamp my card and I'd get the 2nd burrito for free. Upon pick up, the cashier did stamp my card once and realized that I was due for a freebie but she said next time you get a free one. I was like what? Before she spoke again, another female staff shouted "no more" and waved me off. I didn't understand so I asked the cashier if I'd get a free burrito next time and she then said I don't know. Wow! I couldn't believe it. Been coming for over 10 years and be treated like that...

Alison C.

Yelp
We just visited for the first time since Mar. 2020 when the pandemic took over. Went around 1 pm or so and was really shocked that there were no crowds like pre pandemic times. Maybe it was just a slow day, but definitely we welcomed the calmness. Used to be so chaotic with the h.s. students, construction workers, and others lining up to order. Burrito prices thankfully and surprisingly are still affordable, and the burritos make a really good meal. Small size burrito is quite a good size and is still around $7 each. Seems as though almost every SF resto. has increased their prices by alot since the pandemic. So it was good to know that EBX has basically kept their prices low.

Ellie H.

Yelp
I was so excited to try the carne asada burrito that seemed to be such a hit Well if they can ever get your order right you might be able to. It is total chaos in there. About 4 people came in while I was waiting bringing their food back as it was the wrong order Two people were asking for refunds as the food wasn't cooked. And yet they were still taking orders by the dozen I triple checked I got the right order and of course came home with a chicken burrito not the carne asada. The food was sub par and salty at best. Not worth the hour I waited and then had to find other food to eat at home. They need to take a minute and work out the chaos going on in there It's not sustainable and I haven't been in a place where I've seen so many wrong orders and upset customers ever.

B C.

Yelp
Yes!!!!! I've been going here for years. I live somewhere else but when I go to SF I always eat at burrito express....

Jane D.

Yelp
Decent place to eat except every time I use a credit card to pay the amount charged on my card is greater than the amount I agreed to pay. Shady. Happens every time I go there. I suggest only paying in cash. After reading more reviews, looks like this happens to other people too! The response from the company states some garbage about administrative fees. There is absolutely no sign that states I would be charged for using a credit card and it is illegal to add a fee to my charge that is not stated on the receipt. Shady AF.

Rae S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite local establishments. Their taco salad is the best. Plenty of meat and fresh veggies. Adding sour cream and guacamole. Yummy! This opinion is coming from someone who generally doesn't like Mexican food. I have been having this taco salad every Friday for lunch in the past month or so.

Diane L.

Yelp
Lines not too long of a wait tho there should be a better system for those who ordered online/via phone. There were 2 people who did that but ended up standing in line anyway We ordered the norcal burrito and mango pork taco (not worth 6$ even tho it was good, but wasn't hungry enough for a full burrito). Only took a 5min wait after ordering so really not too bad. Ask for 2 green sauces instead of the default 1 red 1 green!

Kayleen R.

Yelp
Great veggie options! Food is hot and fresh and salsas are good. Pretty fast service.

Jacob P.

Yelp
Picked up an Al pastor super burrito with guacamole and thought it was very good, the burrito was massive. I've got a few favorite burrito places in rotation but will definitely be back to try their other options!

Scott L.

Yelp
Under COVID, I don't get out as much as I used to. Do things on my own more - biking, walking, hiking, jogging, having a wet one. Yes, I had a big wet one today and it was messy and gooey. Needed more napkins than usual to clean myself up. Really, the "El Expresso" was big and messy, so much meat - had Carnitas which was spilling out and spurting all over the place, so good, there's enough for another visit or two after resting. So what do you get in "El Expresso"? A wet burrito with your choice of meat, refried beans, rice, pico, guacamole, melted cheese, swimming in Expresso Sauce. Messy, gooey thingy available on parking challenged Taraval and 26th. Ordered on site and waited 10 minutes. Looking forward to more wet ones.

H T.

Yelp
Watch out for their credit card machine.. receipt says 13.56... Credit statement shows they charged 14.10...Smh.. another sneaky dishonest business ...

Veronica B.

Yelp
Money takers! Son went in during lunch to buy a Carne Asada plate, they took way too long for the order, and then when they finally gave it it was a carne asada soft taco instead. Becuase he had to hurry up and get back to school, he didnt have time to tell them of the mistake. This has happened on multiple occasions and we've already told him to never go back again. Paying $16 for a plate of NOT what he ordered is complete garbage and if i could give zero stars, they'd get NOTHING!

Rachel M.

Yelp
My FAVORITE steak burrito of all time! It was in my childhood neighborhood. I lived that the staff was small and they KNEW me and my boyfriend order.

Alissa I.

Yelp
the staff here are liars. my receipt total came out to be $15.98 after tax and thankfully i asked for a receipt this time, because they charged my card for $16.62. it seems they are adding an additional fee or a tip for themselves by adding a small amount so most people do not notice unless you asked for a receipt. be careful about this place... they employee dishonest and rude scammers with very poor service.

Brian C.

Yelp
I am stuffed! Ordered the El Expresso Burrito with Carnitas. This thing is massive! Most places, half a burrito is enough for me but this, I can eat at least 2 more times. It's covered in a fresh tasting red sauce and cheese and more salsa. A little baggie of fresh made tortilla chips comes with all burritos. Asked for some more salsa and the little red cup is actually pretty spicy. It has a slow burn and it sticks with you for a bit. I really like it, but a little goes a long way. The green salsa is mild and you're gonna want more of that to cleanse the palette so don't forget to ask for extra. Just FYI, this place has a lot of nice ladies behind the counter but if it may take a while to get your food, so please be patient. I'm convinced it takes more time to get such a fresh tasting burrito. I waited outside for my order. Will definitely come back. Only metered street parking available. Even with corona, this place can get pretty busy. Well, also, went on Cinco de Mayo.

Caryll P.

Yelp
If I could give negative stars I would. There were 2 ladies up front cleaning the grill when I came in. I asked if they were still open sincr it looked like they were cleaning up and the one lady that I made eye contact with just walked away without saying anything or acknowledging me. Then, after another lady showed up to take my order, the original 2 ladies just stood around for a good 5 minutes before starting my order. Mind you, there was nobody in line and no pick up orders they were preparing. The food is not even worth it, but I went against my better judgment and stopped by since I thought it would be fast and decent enough, but never again. Crap and lazy service doesn't deserve my patronage.

Vivian T.

Yelp
TL;DR -- Customer service: 1/10 Food: 5/10 Customer service is slow and pickup system is confusing. The only COVID precaution enforced is mask wearing: some staff handling food were not wearing gloves, staff handles money and do not sanitize afterwards. Food is definitely quantity over quality (items I ordered were not fresh, overly salty or not seasoned). _____ I had a huge craving for Mexican food this week so I decided to stop by El Burrito Express, a location that has been in this area for years. I was glad to see this spot still around and I was surprised that their prices had not gone up that much over the years. I made an order online through Yelp/GrubHub for two beef avocado tostadas, a Meat el Burrito with carne asade, a two beef enchiladas plate and a churro. When I finally reached the location, there was already a line out the door and a few people waiting inside. I saw previous posts and photos on Yelp where there was a dedicated system to pick up orders (tapping on glass?), but did not see this sign up anymore after I walked around the perimeter of the restaurant. Since there were already the max amount of folks inside, I opted to wait in line... for over 30 minutes. People entered the restaurant as they pleased (I'm assuming for pickups?), ignoring the maximum capacity set for COVID. I understand that it was a Friday night, so staff was slammed, but they seemed to take their sweet time assembling food. It was my mistake that I waited in line instead of skipping it since I had already made an order for pickup, but the pickup system was so confusing and there were already so many people waiting inside. As for COVID precautions, they do require staff and customers to wear masks and there is plexiglass separating patrons from staff. However, I did see some staff that were assembling food without gloves and they are NOT strictly contactless, as there were customers that paid in cash and staff did not sanitize afterwards. Customer service was extremely slow. When I finally got to the counter, I was not helped until maybe 5 minutes later. As for the food... we received a huge bag of free chips with the order, but most of it tasted like it was fried in old oil (?). The beef avocado tostada was nothing special and the avocados did not taste fresh. The Meat el Burrito was great value for the size, but was under seasoned. The two enchiladas plate was massive, but was very salty. The churro was denser that what I am used to and also did not taste fresh. There are unfortunately not many great Mexican places in this area, but I will definitely go out of my way to make a trip to the Mission instead of visiting EBX again.

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Easy ordering and delicious food. Called to order. Order was made before I arrived. Food was still warm. Asked me if I wanted salsa. Free chips. Tried their El Veracruz Taco and Surf and Turf Burritto. Taco was flavorful. Burrito was good, nothing special. Would try to order the garlic shrimp taco next!

Tammy T.

Yelp
Came here for a quick late lunch with my brother after a morning hike. My brother ordered the el branco with carnitas and I ordered the veggie burrito with soyrizo. The order was quick and fast- took around 10 minutes and parking was easy. However, the carnitas was pretty dry and too salty. My veggie burrito was okay, liked the variety of veggies such as squash, bell papers, cauliflower, etc. Overall, just average and would go to another mexican restaurant to satisfy my craving next time!

Charlene M.

Yelp
Man this place has gone so down hill. After 20 years I have to step away. The prices have gone up a lot and the food is getting worse. The quality of the food is solid, but the care in how they prepare the food is rushed and customers are not valued. The personnel are not polite-- frankly, it's strange. A simple Hi, would do. As for the food, no care for the customer. They add 2x the beans or rice to the other ingredients overpowering all the flavor or they clump all the guacamole in one spot. If I'm going to pay $20 for a surf and turf burrito I want to be able to taste the flavor... this is a consistent problem. It's annoying.

Jaden Z.

Yelp
2 NorCal Burritos , one we asked for no sour cream. The one with the no sour cream had sour cream and the one with no writing was missing sour cream and guacamole (looked more like a snack wrap). Very disappointed. My friend is lactose and has an event later and now might not even make it .

Greg G.

Yelp
Please do not accept online orders if you are so busy you turn down not 1 but 3 delivery drivers who were assigned to my order. Now my order is running over an hour late. Its a shame because this place is REALLY GOOD when you get the food... Edit 4/8 bumped to 4 stars for owner reaching out regarding issues.

dave d.

Yelp
I have always wanted to like this place. My wife got a cancun burritto today that had a long piece of plastic in it. Like a zip tie. Will not return as this was the last straw

Renzo M.

Yelp
Food is meh but customer service omg really slowww ol lady really took her time for a simple quesadilla

Julie C.

Yelp
Very good food and service. Salsa is excellent. I had the regular burrito bean and cheese with cilantro.
