"El Charrito has built a cult following for its tortillas and burritos, drawing lines before 6 a.m. Located on a dusty strip of West Market Street in Salinas, California, El Charrito might not immediately stand out from the surrounding homes and businesses. But a few telltale signs hint at the restaurant’s popularity. A parking lot wraps around three sides of the standalone building — and at 11:30 a.m. on a Monday, it’s packed with muddy work trucks and passenger vehicles. A steady stream of cars shuffles in and out of the parking spots." - Dianne de Guzman

Quick stop before going down to cal poly. To be honest, I feel I can’t fully write a review because I got confused. I have been learning Spanish for most my life but mixed up some of the Spanish words and ordered a burrito with the wrong meat. This is totally on me. I wanted to order chorizo but accidentally ordered something else. Feel like a chorizo burrito would have been amazing from this place. The tortillas are freshly made but I thought they tasted a bit funny. Like they were soft and mailable but it just tasted a bit different than other places. It was thicker. The burrito was small but good in flavor. Overall, alright burritos. My Beli gave it a pretty low score but also I think this is due to my ordering error. So I gave it four stars but actually it’s prob like two or three. Decent spot.

I really like El Charrito. The food is good, the Burritos are my favorite. Their home made tortillas have a really good texture and they taste so good. And the prices are great. I live in San Jose but I go to Salinas every other week through my job. Every time we go out there, we go there first. The place gets packed kind of early at times, Their service is very good. I highly recommend this place.

Dang.... this place was 🔥. My coworker recommended this place, and it did not disappoint. I heard the line can get a bit crazy, but I got lucky. There was still a bit of a line, but it moved quickly. Once at the counter, there were plenty of options. I got 6 burritos. Chili Verdi, chicharon, bean and cheese, pastor, asada and a chili relleno burrito. Each comes with beans, rice, salsa, and the meat selection. All the burritos were good, but for me, the chili Verde and chicharon were the stars, followed by the asada. The tortillas were amazing. Soft and fresh. I heard you can buy them by the dozen, but they were sold out by the time I got there. Hopefully next time. I almost forgot, but the 50/50 Jamaica and Limon aguas was phenomenal. This place has me counting down until I can come again!

Sadly el Charrito is not what it used to be.It use to be like getting a burrito at your moms or aunts house but now the quality and flavor has declined.I also notice many items get topped off with new food and that’s not the correct way to refill hot food and maybe that’s why I have gotten sick twice from the Chile verde burrito. I know people will hate on this review but I write this with pure honesty and I grew up here in Salinas so it does not feel good to write this about one of the towns favorite sports. The tortillas are still very delicious.

Order ahead of time if you are in a hurry. Ordering inside may look like it is going to take a while if the line is snaked around the queue, but the staff are very efficient in keeping the line moving. We had the burritos and bowl. Food is tasty. If you are gluten-free, get the bowl because the tortillas for burritos and the bread for the tortas are made with flour. Aguas frescas are good. Was not on the menu but available if they have not run out, is the cucumber, spinach, and lime agua fresca-quite tasty.

I was in Salinas for the weekend and was craving some Mexican food for breakfast. After doing a bit of research I seen this place. I knew I had to check it out. The location is in a primes area with tons of parking around the sides and a big parking lot in the back if dust doesn’t scare you off. Walking into the place the line seem big, but it went by pretty quick. I was looking at the menu the whole time and I didn’t know what to get because everything looked so good. I opted for two burritos and got a side of tortilla chips with their beans and rice and guacamole. They also sell various Mexican desserts. I got some Corridos de Sinaloa. 10 minutes later I got back to the place I was staying at and the food was still very warm. I got a Carne asada burrito, Carnitas burrito, a bowl, taquitos, chips and guac. Man, those are some of the best burritos I’ve ever had here in California. The bowl was very good and everything tasted fresh. As others say go. Go now. Add it to your list of places to try.

I was sold on this place when I saw they make their own tortillas. My husband and I shared Chile Verde & Chile Colorado Burritos. Both were delicious. I don't think you can go wrong. The tortillas are fantastic. My only small complaint is that they don't roll the burritos very well, so they fell apart while we were eating them. There isn't any seating inside, but they do have picnic tables outside on the side of the building, so that's where we ate. I'd highly recommend coming here if you're in the area!
