The 38 Essential Restaurants in Detroit

"Southwest Detroit is arguably the taco truck capital of the city and the Diaz family, who runs the El Parian mobile food trucks, in many ways lead the pack. With several locations — some that go under their own distinct names and deliver unique concepts — that can reliably be found at the same address daily, El Parian offers fiery and slightly tangy tacos al pastor, complete with slivers of pineapple; tacos campechano (asada mixed with chorizo); and tacos filled with tender cuts of suadero. For fans of mariscos, hit up its sister seafood truck, El Imperio, at 7812-7816 Vernor Highway for a variety of seafood cocktails, citrusy ceviche served on top of crispy tostadas, and even chilled oysters. While the locations are pretty consistent, be sure to follow Parian’s social media accounts for updates." - Serena Maria Daniels

The 27 Best Places To Eat & Drink In Detroit

"“Mexicantown,” also known as Southwest Detroit, is the only place you should go when you’re craving tacos here. There are plenty of overdone, guacamole-made-at-your-table restaurants in the area, but skip those and head to our personal favorite, Taqueria El Rey. This super casual spot is known for its wide variety of tacos and whole grilled chicken, which is cooked under a tent next door. If you don’t feel like tackling an entire bird, choose from their lengthy taco list that includes everything from al pastor to beef tongue." - sara barron, sam faye

La Palapa del Parian in Detroit has a dramatic new look, expanded menu | Eater Detroit

"I followed the couple’s taco-truck roots back to their first truck, launched in 2009 from a car-wash parking lot at Vernor and Dix, and learned that the commissary kitchen that preceded La Palapa supported their fleet — El Parian, Wicho’s Burgers, and El Imperio Mariscos — which remains widely popular; after a lease change they had to relocate one Parian truck and struggled at first to get the word out, but the new Parian truck is now at 8163 West Vernor and two others remain at 4802 Vernor and 1120 Springwells near I-75." - Serena Maria Daniels

The Diaz family’s trucks anchor Southwest Detroit: al pastor carved from the trompo, suadero, and campechano. Spotlighted by Eater Detroit’s citywide guide, with a steady Vernor presence and a seafood sibling nearby.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Amazing food and even better people! The tacos are fresh, flavorful, and some of the best I’ve had. The service is friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they really care about their customers. I also love that they have a nice covered area to sit down and enjoy the food—it makes the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot worth coming back to again and again!

These have to be the best tacos I've ever eaten, hands down. I grabbed a steak and shrimp taco that was seriously out of this world. They pack those tacos to the absolute max, and the price is so low, I'm not even sure how they're making a profit. The service is amazing too – super quick and friendly. Seriously, thank you so much! I'll definitely be back soon.

This is is the only taco truck in the area. Birria unmatched, quesadillas insane. Worth a 20 min drive forme every time. Service is great too. Wicho diaz helped me out. Great truck cannot say enough!

Food was great! Campechana quesadillas were delicious, not soggy at all, chicken tacos were great, and so was the chicken burrito. Rice and beans were a little on the salty side, but still very tasty! Sauces were all very good, and a good range of mild, medium, and spicy options. Would definitely eat here again!

Google
We travel multiple cities to get to this food truck and have been coming for years! Amazing fresh food and speedy service. We always say we’re going to save our tacos until we get home but, we always end up eating them in the parking lot of the food truck! 😅

Google
Maaaaaannnnnn. When I tell you these quesadillas didn’t stand a chance! Had the pastor and barria quesadillas packed with flavor didn’t skimp on the filling either ! Great job and will definitely be back

Google
Will never order from them again. They don’t follow directions, food was mushy & soggy & instead of styrofoam containers they give you paper plates with aluminum foil, limes were dry… the asada/steak was so nasty & I asked for my corn tortillas fried they gave them to me soggy, not fried. 0/10. Wouldn’t recommend.

Google
Just by the crowd, you know this place will be special. The tacos were well seasoned - the quesadillas was crispy, with the type of cheese that has the slight burnt texture to compliment. The presentation could be improved, but what can you say from a taco truck.
