Affordable tea tastings, wide variety of lovely teas, great knowledge and kindess! Highly recommend! While the name of Fang Gourmet Tea rings familiar in my mind, I didn't give it much thought until it came highly recommended in a chat with another tea enthusiast. Despite my lack of preparation in making a reservation at least a day in advance on the official website, I took a chance, walked in, and asked if they had any availabilities for the day. Luckily, they had an empty time slot in around 40min, and to my great relief they made no fuss about my request. In my quest to branch out from Phoenix oolongs, I asked for recommendations, and after mentioning a previous successful encounter with a Dong Ding Oolong, I settled on a Formosa Oolong. I had 5 gaiwan brews, and was pleasantly surprised to be asked whether I prefer lighter or stronger steepings. I asked to start with a lighter brew, but we also explored some stronger brews. I enjoyed the evolving interplay of floral, lychee (the comparison did get me a surprised but polite eyebrow raise), and honey notes. I asked about oxidation and roasting of this particular oolong, and after the 5th steeping, I was encouraged to feel the brewed leaves as a clue-in to roast level. We also took the opportunity to examine the leaves more in depth, and I enjoyed learning about the importance of the stem for Taiwanese teas and the process of handpicking tips with 3-4 leaves. As I was leaving, coat in hand (I've started waiting until I'm outside to put on my coat in small and busy spaces), the workers waved aside my worry and urged me to put my coat on first since it was so cold. I left feeling touched and happy from talking about tea with knowledgeable and friendly people, the fragrance of the tea lingering on my tongue for a good long while.

Walking into Fang is like walking into an interactive tea museum with full time curator on site. Great selection of high quality and premium tea, teaware, and knowledgeable staffs that can tell you everything you need to know about tea. The store also offers cup to go in addition to tea leafs. A great place to visit to pick up something for yourself or unique gift!

I had an excellent tea tasting at Fang's. The tea itself was remarkable, and I left wanting to go back to try more. I went on my own, and for me the best part was having a rewarding conversation with the tea master (who I believe is the owner) about tea, life, and other things. Our conversation inspired me to explore other teas that I wasn't aware of, so I'm looking forward to going back, and I would recommend it to others, whether solo or in a small group.

Wonderful and unique selection of Chinese teas and tea ware. They just started their annual tea expo this weekend. Got a free bag of white tea 🥳

Fang's is one of the knowledgeable GongFu style tea shops I've been to. I stopped by Flushing NY right before heading for the airport and had to go in and try. They have a variety of selections of Oolongs and other teas like Pu-Erh. I've tried their one hundred year YiWu pu-erh tea and I thought it was very good. They have a few selections of YiXing and other teaware. I'd recommend anyone to stop by if they have some time to enjoy some tea.

Google

Knowledgeable and kind owners. Plenty of tea kinds and tea sets of all prices. Recommended for tea lovers and non tea lovers as well, there's always something new you can try and with genuine interest you can learn a lot.

My son did NOT want to miss this while on our Flushing Food Tour for his 20th birthday. This place was easier to find than the Golden Shopping Market. I didn't know what to expect. I just thought we'd simply be getting tea. Well, this ended up being such a beautiful experience. I loved the low seating and the warm ambiance. A lovely woman sat with us and served and sipped tea with us. She explained they only serve one kind of tea at a time, five pours. I just nodded...ok, I wasn't really sure what she meant. Went with her flow and tried my best not to be my hyper fidgety self. It's a slow process, very intimate and ritualistic. Initially it was hard for me to be still and patient but I just gave in to the moment...it became meditative. Free Spirit - a pu erh tea. Most expensive tea I ever had but really a fine experience, worth the $20.

Yelp
This review is from 2024, users should note the new location of Fangs is no longer in the small mall on Main Street. The store is now located on a standalone location. If you try to find it in the mall, it will not be there. The teas and teaware at Fangs is top notch and they feature some heritage artisans against their walls. The prices range from hundreds to thousands on some of these hand made tea pieces. It is too rich for my blood but if you are into teaware, this is the place for you to pickup something truly special for yourself or a close friend. The teas themselves are excellent as they work with importers. They have a variety of Taiwanese teas, featuring Oolong teas. You wont find many places in NYC and definitely not many other places in Queens that feature this quality of tea. Whether you want an grassy Alishan Oolong or a complex Dayuling, they have it. For a few years now they offer limited teas to go in a small cup that range fro 6-8 dollars depending on size. During the summer they have cold brew teas as well and during the winter it is mainly hot teas. Definitely worth the trip if you want actual tea and not boba tea or milky/sugary teas. Since COVID, they have not brought back their tea tastings. I hope one day that they do because it was a fun experience. So if you visit, I wouldn't expect table/seating service, even though they have the room for it.

Hank F.

Yelp
I mail ordered three teas from Fang Gourmet Tea. The Secret Garden was so-so, the Alishan was good, and the Dayuling was quite good. I am a collector of the top oolong teas, and usually get better teas for quite a bit lower prices. So I won't order again.

Yelp
Very quiet and serene ambiance in the shop. The shop owners are very knowledgeable about the various types of teas and tea wares. However, both of the teas and tea wares are so overly priced. Although I understand they need to make a profit, it just seems too greedy to charge a $20 value set of tea set for over $100. If you like something that you found in the store, i recommend to go to Ebay, Taobao or Aliexpress to buy them.

Joseph T.

Yelp
Beautiful tea ware. Some of the most gorgeous pots I've seen anywhere. Great variety and lots of sets and gadget. Outstanding selection of loose leaf too with focus on puerh and oolong. Loose leaf was pricey but they had a nice variety. Shop is very elegant and service was super knowledgeable. No tastings as of March 2023.

Yelp
What an expensive tea room! I've been to Teance in Berkeley which I considered to be rather expensive but this place takes the cake. The shop is located in a shopping plaza so you have to be on the lookout for a tea room. The tea room itself has many types of teapots and teas. There were yixing teapots, rock clay type of teapots, and many more. The teas ranged from white, green, red, and oolong teas. I believed I tried a lovely soft, slightly sweet green tea. One of the ladies helped us pour the tea and we all had a nice tea tasting. Unlike tea drunk in the west village or Teance in California, it almost seemed like they would kick us out after 7 steeps of tea. The other shops were more individual, independent tea shops that let the customers pour their own teas, allowing us to steep the teas completely. Usually at other shops, I can spend a few hours there to stretch my tea out. While it was a lovely service and the ladies were very nice in explaining different types of teas and teapots, I'd prefer to pour my own tea at my own pace.

Anderson D.

Yelp
A bit too expensive, but great tea and the employees are really knowledgable. Tea tasting wasn't happening as over May 2022, but was really nice pre-pandemic.

Yelp
Wow!! What an amazing hidden gem in the heart of flushing. Fang Tea carries such delicate and delicious teas that are absolutely worth the hike (all the way from Maryland). The quality of the tea is reflected in the price. You are getting what you pay for, so come with a fat and happy wallet! If you're looking for ordinary, budget teas in a bag, go elsewhere... It always brings me such joy at the waves of zen and meditation that hit me the moment I step foot into Fang Tea. It stands as a stark contrast to the bustling, busy streets of New York. It's a great place to escape the chaos and find your center in a cup of hot tea, expertly brewed by the Tea Masters, all of which have had such bounty of training and each's personality shining through each brew of tea. Fang Tea preserves the traditions of Ancient China. And the entire tea making experience is an art, very unique to New York and the US. There is really no place like Fang Tea. My absolute favorite tea is the Charcoal Oolong Tea. AMAZING!!! Buy a bag of it!!! I also have tried their Spring Oolong Tea, Green Tea, Red Tea, Tangerine Pu-erh, Coin Fuling, and Wilderness Liu Bao. But the Charcoal Oolong is the best. I love the firey and earthy taste of the charcoal oolong tea. And their teaware is so beautiful and precious. I recently added a few more cups to my collection. And while you've made the way to Flushing for some tea. Hop on over to Magic Jewelry for some aura reading, energy clearing, and pure crystal magic. Then Spring Shabu for all you can eat hot pot :)

Yelp
Stumbled upon this wonderful tea room tucked away in the back of a shopping complex right off of Flushing's Main Street. We decided to stay for a cup of tea and ended up doing a sampling of three types of teas once we learned how it works. We tried a black tea, Puerh tea, and chrysanthemum tea. The pricing is set at around $5-15 per person per tea, and everyone at the table tries the same teas. So it was $15 each to do a 3-tea tasting and took around an hour. It was a very enjoyable experience as the person who was serving us the tea went through all the ritual steps and explained a lot about each of the teas. They also have some teas and pots you can buy.

Yelp
This place was fabulous and such a refreshing experience. You are in the middle of Flushing, New York. This is essentially a thriving second Chinatown in New York city and you are surrounded by the excited, noise, and bustle usually associated with being in New York. It was stressful for me since I'm from a slower, more relaxed city. I thought I'd like some tea and I have to say, this place just made my day. It is a small tea shop in the middle of this indoor mini-strip mall. There are about 5 stores in this first floor of the building that include a dry cleaner, nail spa, and a few other activities. The second you walk into this tea store, you forget that the rest of the stores and the rest of New York exist. They play relaxing music and I can honestly say that I think this was the first time I did not feel rushed in New York. The woman manning the store greeted us and walked us through the ordering process. Essentially, you select a kind of tea and have to pay per person to sample the tea. SHe will sit down with you at a table and talk you through the history of your tea, how that tea is made, and the specific steeping process that is used for that specific type of tea. This whole time, she will pour tea for you and explain both the exact steps she is using to pour the perfect cup of tea for each guest and how to drink it to get the full effect of the tea. It was so educational and I just had fun trying new kinds of tea (white and green tea in my case) that tasted very different from the packaged or even loose tea that I am used to buying whenever I go to British tea houses or a grocery store. I would highly recommend this unique tea-tasting experience!

Yelp
I love Flushing for its chaos. And the most remarkable thing about Fang Gourmet Tea is that, despite being located in the middle of Flushing, it is one of the most peaceful and relaxing places I have been in the city. It's located in a little mall and is kinda hard to find from the street. Luckily, the entrance has the street address, 135-25, very clearly displayed on the door. I recently went here to do a tea tasting with a couple friends visiting. The tea tasting setup is beautiful in its simplicity. The way it works is you select a tea (most are $10 per person), an employee sits with you and teaches you about the tea, and you try five cups from the pot. As a tea noob, I found their tea list impressive and intimidating. I had no idea what to choose. My friends and I settled on the "original Dong Ding tea" because of its name, being honest. We loved our choice - with each passing round, as the tea leaves "activated", the scent of honey emanating from the tea became more and more heavenly, and the aftertaste increasingly smooth. The person who ran our tasting was very knowledgable - turns out Dong Ding is a mountain in Taiwan and the only location where this type of leaf grows. She also taught us what exactly an oolong tea is - a partially fermented tea that falls between green tea (no fermentation) and black tea (completely fermented). I will be back, and you should pay it a visit to take a zen-inducing break during your Flushing food-fest.

Yelp
wayyy overpriced ($48) for a tiny box of basic green tea. terrible return policy: they won't accept UNOPENED box within 3 days of purchase, store said exchange only. Just horrible and scammy, buy elsewhere!

Liz S.

Yelp
Serene space for tea tasting in the heart of downtown Flushing. There's signs on the street pointing you to the back of the building, where you'll find a small shop packed with elegant tea sets. The main event here is tea tasting, where they resteep the same tea leaves five times so you can taste the difference in timing. Prices start at $5 a person. We decided to do a basic roasted oolong for our tasting, which ran nearly 30 minutes. It's definitely an experience worth trying; at the very least, it will force you to get off your phone. I would recommend it for tea enthusiasts or novices, and it's a good way to prolong your Flushing trip and space out your eating. Service was great and atmosphere was peaceful. However, I would recommend doing a more expensive tea (like $10 a person), as I didn't feel like the one we had was all that premium. You could taste a difference between steepings, but it didn't feel worth it to go through the lengthy process for something that was a little basic.

Yelp
I was looking for good Taiwanese Oolong tea shop and finally I found it! I enjoyed a little "tea ceremony" tasting. Tea tasting is a good idea if you do not know exactly which one you like before purchasing. A man (sorry I did not get his name) was very patient with me answering all my questions to find out what I should buy. I do not spend money on alcohol, but I do not mind spending money on good quality Taiwanese Oolong tea. A cup of good aroma Oolong tea after hard working day is so relaxing for me...... Next time, I will buy the award wining best tea!

Linda W.

Yelp
Came here with my kids, and the staff was so kind and even offered my little ones some candy. They have all sorts of tea. I was very pleased with the unique taste of my lemon tea. Very potent and should last me awhile. I can't wait to try there other teas.

Mie T.

Yelp
My husband love love loves this place. He comes here very often to have tea and buy them. They are really knowledgeable of many kind of tea. They also have very nice tea pots and cups. This is a place to appreciate fancy tea. Not the place chugging.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Beautiful little hidden spot. Yes, on the expensive side, but you're paying for the experience, which is wonderful. Come with at least an hour or more to slowly enjoy.

Helen Y.

Yelp
Visit your friendly neighborhood Taiwanese ladies (Lynn, Mrs. Su, and Pierra) to gain even more tea info that you didn't know you didn't know. I feel pretty comfortable saying that the tea house experience here is AT LEAST a few notches above Ten Ren's Tea (天仁茗茶). And don't you worry--English works just fine at Fang Gourmet Tea. PS - Ask to see what's inside the "steamer basket" by the window (hint: it's not dim sum!).

Yulan L.

Yelp
Best traditional tea ever taste !!! I had championed tea from Taiwan . Fresh me up every morning.

Celia Y.

Yelp
These ladies really know their tea! I had an excellent experience coming here for Valentine's day after a not so great lunch on a day when temperatures were in the single digits. The relaxing and nicely decorated store full of beautiful (and expensive) tea sets was stimulating and fun to look at during and after my tea tasting experience. For the tea, I tried an Oolong one, which was really soothing, aromatic, and bold. But I would suggest you asking the ladies for their recommendations as they know the benefits of each of the teas. You can easily ask them for ones that will warm the body, ones that will speed up your digestive system (and help weight loss), or even ones that will help with health issues! The tasting experience ranges from $5-$20 per person depending on the tea you select. It was a slow but relaxing process where they pour the tea for you to taste up until 4 times. If interested, the teas are all available for purchase as well, although they are quite pricey. Tea tasting here is definitely an experience that everyone should try out once.

Yelp
We stopped in early-ish after a late morning Chinese style breakfast in Queens with wonton in red sauce and xiaolongbao. It was a really hot day today with temperatures in the 90's and we stopped in to sample white, this year's green and their imperial grade puerh tea. My friends were new to Gongfu style tea and was very surprised by the simple yet sophistication involved in prepping the tea and in the amount of variation in the tea. I may have just indulged them to begin to be tea fiends. The shop also has a unique blend of teaware, some of which are extremely pricy but they have practical beautiful day use ones as well. I live too far to return but may do so next time I visit queens.

Ryan F.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! A friend of mine walking along Roosevelt saw a sign saying tea tasting. We wanted to see what it was about. Inside is very small but so home like with all employees so friendly. You go to the counter to review over there long tea menu, then choose one and proceed to the table with your tea expert. The entire experience was so calming and the tea was very good. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is feeling stressed out or just wants good tea. This place is for you. I will be coming back soon.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Very nice place to sit down and have coffee or tea and a pork bun. Extremely nice people and great service. The prices are very reasonable.

Diana Y.

Yelp
This place is the jam for fine and rare teas! * gaiwan tea experience (highly recommend visiting Fang Gourmet for this) * purchase top tier leaves, but only worth if you want it in bulk (starting prices start at $60 and up); fine tea ware and every-day utensils * not pretentious For the curious, newbies with an open mind, the staff do their best to suggest what you may enjoy. Don't expect the familiar tea you'll get at Starbucks, Teavana (owned by Starbucks), Argo, or even the low grade tea (Lipton) you get with take-out or at some restaurants. I have made two visits and each one is different depending on the tea expert you share your tasting experience with. The English language will be a wee bit difficult for some to carry on as at a conversational level. Don't let this deter you. This has not affect in the tea tasting service. For tea lovers with a desire to try the more unusual and rare, Fang Gourmet has a huge variety of such teas. It excited my taste buds. The tea house is tucked away from the bustling avenue. It'll located inside the rear of a building. (They have a small hanging signage outside by its entrance.) Prices are modest to high for what you get from a fine tea purveyor, but not as absurd as Tea Drunk (East Village). If you want to get away from being in Manhattan, come out to Flushing for this unique adventure.

Yelp
I discovered this hidden little gem in the back of a crowed, disorganized storefront collection of various businesses on a food tour about a year ago and it's going to get my business every time I'm in the city from now on. Haven't been here? One of the signature items of interest is that they will do a tea tasting with you. You select what tea, and the shop owner will sit with you and discuss the finer points. Takes about 30 minutes! How cool is that? When this happened they asked what kind of tea I wanted to sample. Not prepared for the question I asked if they carried Pu-erh (expecting a "no") which is a funky, aged (usually) Chinese tea that where I'm from comes in only one or two forms at most. Here? They have probably 15-20 different ones, so every time I'm here I pick out a new one and they're superb. Slowly working my way through a terrific batch 1,300 miles from the purchase point. Side note: besides tasting good with a little caffeine kick the tea is filled with cholesterol lowering goodness. There's something really special going on here. I won't pretend to know much about Chinese and other Asian teas but everything I've sample here is so much better than what I can get that it merits my return every time I land at La Guardia.

Shamor P.

Yelp
Excellent place to learn a little about chinese tea culture, Pearia was so kind and willing to share her knowledge of tea! The tea service was personable and a veritable experience that expanded my horizons not only of tea but about the history of tea in China. The shop is small, I'd not come with a group of more than four people. I can't recommend it more for the true tea lover!

Nina F.

Yelp
I discovered this place years ago through the Tea Expo and I was so excited. It's inside the mall and is very, very small, so beware when you look for it. -I'm obsessed with tea you guys- So I have been coming here every other year for the expo, because it's kinda out of my way, since it's on the opposite side of queens for me. They have many, many, many luxurious teas that can spoil any tea lover, From strong pure Green tea, to white Cherry Blossom tea. You can easily spend hours there talking to your friends and sipping tea, and eating these tiny biscuits (can't remember the name) that are shaped like tiny animals, they are so cute and yummy, They sell small biscuits and cotton cakes that you can eat with your teas. Also come here or a day of tea, and get yourself or someone special a lavish gift of good quality teas.

Anson T.

Yelp
Do not sit down to try the tea. Worst service provided by the shop assistant who wants to kick you out ASAP if you do not buy their products.

Rachel B.

Yelp
The quality of their tea is their saving grace, and the only reason I gave two stars instead of one. My friends and I stopped here to try some of their tea (this place provides a tea-tasting service to let you try before you buy.) Normally, I appreciate services like this, and to be fair, they do give you more than just one sip during the testing. They give you 5-7 little cups (about 2-3 mouthfuls), showing you the different flavors as the tea is steeped and resteeped multiple times. Their teas are good quality, and it shows during the tasting. But these people totally rip you off due to how payment for the tea tasting service is set up. They charge per tea, per person. So, if you have a group of four people, and Person A wishes to try an Oolong for $10, that person will pay $10. That's fine. But what isn't fine is if Person A would like to share the tea that they paid for with the other three people, those other three now have to pay not for their own set of tea, but for the same amount of tea already provided to Person A. So, if Person B from the group takes so much as a sip from Person A's Oolong, they now owe $10 as well. It's the SAME AMOUNT OF TEA. They do not make extra tea for Person B. They do not get their own set of tea leaves. They are now paying $20 for the exact same amount of tea as before, using the same tea leaves. If all 4 people wanted to try that same Oolong, it would be $40 total, but the shop is still only spending the same amount of resources as they would for 1 person. And, to top it off, the guy steeping the tea sits with you and he drinks the extra tea. Instead of allowing Person A to share the leftover tea with B, C and D, the guy steeping the tea drinks the extra tea himself. That $10 was for the tea. It should be mine to do with as I please, and I do NOT want to pay for him to drink the leftover tea himself. I will not be coming back to this place. It's a shame, because their tea really is quite good, but their business model is shit. Oh well. There are other places that sell quality tea.

Simon C.

Yelp
I have never had a better experience drinking and learning about tea than at this shop. Not only did I dramatically increase my understanding and appreciation for ancient Chinese and Taiwanese drinking styles, but the shop had a Chinese translator on hand to guide me and my companion through the process of drinking, selecting, and understanding tea. I almost want to keep it a secret to myself, but seriously, be polite, be appreciate, be calm, don't be in a rush, and come in to this beautiful shop filled with lovely tea wares, incredible tea, and enjoy it prepared to perfection as it should be by the incredibly knowledgeable and courteous staff of this shop. More people need to come here.

Jason W.

Yelp
Very Good to Excellent teas- strength in Taiwanese oolongs and pu'ers. Also excellent in serving tea in the "right" way. A restful place to learn about tea and enjoy friendly, helpful company. High praise to Kyle and the rest of the team!

Edward V.

Yelp
In a sentence, simply the best tea I've ever had. Fang is hidden away, even by Flushing standards; you've got to walk back through a strange entrance, past a couple other businesses. It's worth the work to get there, though. The shop itself is not fancy, but if you know a little about tea, you'll quickly start to see signs that you're in an extraordinary place. Tables for tea-tasting welcome you when you enter; lots of tea is inconspicuously nestled on shelves; high-quality yixing pots, gaiwans, and other teaware line the walls. A guided tasting is $15 ($12 if you become a "member") for three teas. Bring a friend, and allow an hour for your host to teach you about the teas being made. The staff know more about tea than anyone I've met in searching for tea on 3 continents, so don't worry, there is plenty to discuss. Make a day of it, and don't hurry. After your tasting, you can buy any teas you liked. They are expensive ($60 for a coffee-sized, 100g bag of tea), but the quality is far beyond anything available elsewhere (a pu-erh cliff tea from century-old trees). Their teaware is also top-notch; prices are reasonable for the quality (mostly in the hundreds of dollars). They specialize in Taiwanese and Chinese oolongs and pu-erhs - and extraordinary ones, from specific places, with stories. Knowing a little about tea beforehand is helpful; regardless of how much you know, you'll learn a lot more over the course of a tasting. Speaking Chinese is helpful but not necessary; you might consider calling ahead to schedule a tasting. Very highly recommended.

Yelp
If you're looking for a little café that serves tea instead of coffee, this is not it. But, if you're looking for a unique opportunity to experience and learn about traditional Chinese tea, Fang Gourmet Tea deserves to be at the top of the list. My wife and I stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon after reading about the place in a neighborhood guide. We were warmly welcomed, seated, and given a menu with over 50 different teas to choose from. We chose two different options, and immediately, the journey began. Our host regaled us with anecdotes about his family and love for tea, dropped knowledge on the different techniques in which the teas were made (and the pros and cons to each), and guided us through the tasting process every step of the way. A note to visitors - to get back to the shop, you have to walk past/through a number of other businesses, but don't give up - your destination is not far. We're recommended this place to a number of our friends in the area and will continue to do so. Come, enjoy the tea; ask questions; geek out; relax; and let yourself steep in the incredible experience you'll have here.

Yelp
Five stars, hands down. I only found out about their tea expo last two weeks of winter 2012-3. I attended 3x in 2 weeks, completed their pestle tea making 2x and tried 4 different tea tastings. Each was such an exceptional experience and I left feeling so educated. Who knew tea was so complicated! Pestle tea: they say it takes 20 minutes to make, but seems like it takes 30-45 minutes (for beginners). I did it twice with different peoples (all newbies) and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's ten dollars per person and you get variety of nuts to grind in a mortal and pestle. It's an arm work out, but during the time, you get to talk to your companions and it's a lot of fun. The end result is tea that is very thick and nutty. You get to witness nuts becoming nut paste before your eyes and it's pretty cool. I've been motivated to try to make my own peanut butter. Ha! Tea tastings: I tried black, oolong, puerh, and cliff tea. My favorites were oolong and cliff, since they don't have that bitterness that black teas have. Each time, my tea guru Angela gave us a good history of the tea, where the leaves are grown, the taste of the teas during different brews, and how the tea leaves are grown. So thoughtful, so intense, and so calming. I loved it. Prices are definitely on the more expensive side, but it's definitely worth it. The staff are so knowledgeable and that experience is completely fulfilling. I was told while the expo is annually, smaller versions of this is done at their tea shop. I'm looking forward to checking it out when in need of more zen in my life.

I was curious about this place so, I decided to see what it was all about. When you arrive inside the tea house, you see teaware collections, wooden tables where you sit to drink tea and you hear serene music. A tea master greets you at the door and sits you down. You are handed a menu full of Chinese tea selections (green teas, white teas, black teas, oolong teas and puerh teas). The teas range from cheap to more expensive. Once you've made your tea selection, the tea master sits with you and brews the tea for you. They serve you 5x in a small tea cup. Along the way, they answer any questions you have about the brewing process. Overall, it's a very relaxing quiet experience.

Yelp
This place was awesome. Initially I went into their store but one of the sales lady there walked me over to the Sheraton Hotel where the tea tasting was taking place. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon with a friend. They sat us down and suggested we sign up to be members which would enable us to buy tea samples for $3 instead of $5 per tea. Now, that sounds expensive but it's actually a deal. They prepare the tea and they keep on pouring until you're satisfied so you get your fill. While you're tasting the teas, the host explains the tea history along with explaining how it should be prepared. The information was really useful. I took away a star because after the tea sampling, my friend and I wanted to take a look at all the tea pots they had for sale. It's a bit suffocating when the host follows you around explaining all the history of the tea pots. I listened courteously for the tea sampling but would have appreciated a break. Also, they really try to push products on you. I ended up buying one item but please don't push your luck. All in all, it was a great and relaxing experience except for the sales pressure. I definitely plan to go again.

Yelp
They have the largest tea selection that I know of in NYC. The quality of their tea is also excellent. Their tea tasting events are a great way to try out different teas before purchasing, since each event has a different theme. I found myself looking forward to each tea tasting event so I can try their latest find. I also like the fact that I can bring friends to their tea tasting events and have a great time having excellent afternoon teas with their specially-made snacks. If you are into real gourmet tea, especially Chinese tea, this is the best place in NYC. For those of you who are new to the Chinese tea thing, they offer tea ceremony workshops that will teach you how to appreciate Chinese tea, from A to Z. So if you are into a bit of cultural immersion, this is a good way to do it.

Yelp
When was the last time you had a decent cup of tea? As a serious tea drinker since childhood, it is like heaven when I bumped into it. Like wine, tea tastes the best when you set your heart to it, and it is the place for such. Among their huge tea selections I enjoy Rock Tea the most. Not only is their tea divine, the decor is tranquil, and the staff heartwarming. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is a place for exporting chinese tea culture. You can experience traditional Chinese tea drinking. We did oolong tea and was happy to buy some when leaving :)

Yelp
This place was awesome! Really hard to find but definitely a hidden treasure. I've been looking and looking for a good place that sells top quality whole leaf teas and this is it! More people must must must know about this place because they do taste-ins where you can taste the teas before you buy them. And they're not just 'samples'. They do it the ceremonial way so that you get the full authentic tea experience and really savor the top quality taste. They have great pu-erh tea cakes (my favorite) and delicious varieties of teas. The tea expert/instructor taught us so much about different teas. It was great. They also do 101 on teas once in a while and other kinds of awesome seminars which they told us about!! Definitely going back there again soon with more friends.

Yelp
This place is the bomb, it is such an amazing journey into another land of scent and taste and ritual. Came here after reading other reviews and was totally uplifted by the experience. The tea master did not speak English but with the help of other customers and another employee he revealed great knowledge about the teas, the tea growing and tea making experiences, it was a whirlwind encyclopedia of tea info. Tried two oolongs, which I adore, from a list of maybe 20 oolongs and one green tea. I learned that the teacup and teapot are just as important to the experience as the tea leaves. Will return again soon with friends. A great respite amidst the crowded streets of Flushing, Queens.

Yelp
I am writing this review because one of the reviews below made me very angry and obviously was written by someone who should stick with Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. This is an amazing hidden tea room and I come in frequently for both purchasing teas to drink at home as well as sitting for a ceremony. I was really mad to read a review below that said this price tag of $5 a person for a 30-40 minute expertly brewed session is a lot of money? Yes 5 bucks for a lipton teabag tossed in a cup of hot water is way too much money, but this is a specialty tea shop carrying extremely high quality teas. I think you are paying for much more than the tea here. The ceremony is extemely peaceful and allows you to taste and smell the flavors of the tea as it is brewed 4-5 times for you. The tea changes as it is brewed. The owners/employees are very very nice and super knowledgeable about the hundreds of teas they have behind the counter. Many of these teas are very difficult to find anywhere in the United States. Flushing is the real deal and Fang Gourmet is as good as it gets. This is the problem with yelp. Unfortunately anyone can write a review and express their opinion even if they shouldn't have even found their way into this shop.

Yelp
Incredible tea sampling experience. I ended up purchasing some aged high mountain oolong. The sales lady ended up walking us over to her favorite restaurant.

Yelp
I moved to Chicago recently and have been disappointed by the fact I can't find a place like this. This is where I got into tea for the sake of tea, instead of tea as a coffee replacement, covered up with sugar, milk, and various flavorings. Yes, the teas here are pretty expensive, but they are very high quality and the salespeople know a lot about tea. I think their roasted oolong is my favorite, but the honey aroma oolongs are worth trying too.

Yelp
I didn't know this place existed until several months ago even though I go to Flushing every weekend to visit my mom. The place is on Roosevelt Avenue, past Main Street on your way to Citi Fields. The place is on the same side as Dunkin Donuts. Be very alert while looking for the place. The place is located inside a "mini shopping mall," that has a packing center, a clothing store, and etc. Look for the sign and walk in and go past the other stores and stalls. Environment - The place is kind of quaint and you'll always find middle aged native Chinese people hanging around sipping tea. It's kind of homely, and if you're looking for a tea garden or some place that'll blow you away, you're not going to get it. There are glass displays against the walls with tea ware and two tables where you can sit and sample tea. I'm not sure how the system works if you want to sample tea there. I'm sure you'll have to purchase your tea in order to taste, but I simply haven't gotten around to sitting down to chat and sip tea. I usually walk in with my kid or kids; ask for suggestions; buy tea; and get out before my kids go nuts and start breaking things. (My kids are 2 and 5 and quite active.) Price - If you're looking for cheap boxes of tea, this place is not it. If you're looking for funky flavored tea, e.g. Teavana (BLECH), this place is not it. If you're looking for a ton of selections with tin canisters lining the walls with teas from all over the world, this place is not it. The place appears to specialize in High Mountain tea from Taiwan. I purchased 150 grams of the Eastern Beauty tea for 60 something dollars. (That's a little over 5 ounces.) Most recently, I purchased High Mountain Lisan tea for $98 for 150 grams. To be honest, I didn't know what I was buying and I didn't have a taste. I just described to the saleslady what I wanted and I just took a leap of faith and bought. But I've not been disappointed. Both teas were EXCELLENT! And it's quite superlative. Not that price is the sole determining factor when it comes to tea quality, but I'm convinced that you must pay in order to get good Chinese tea. I've shopped around on the internet. The prices at Fang is not cheap and you can get better prices elsewhere, but I like the thought of being able to walk into a store and purchase my own tea while you have native Chinese and locals sipping tea. Service - Depending on the salesladies there, you may or may not get great English assistance. Take a native Chinese, Mandarin speaker with you. I'm totally hooked on Chinese oolong tea.

Yelp
Good place for friend gathering. Enjoy a cup of tea in a relaxing afternoon. I cannot wait for tea expo from 12/19/2014!

Yelp
I've never had an experience like I had at Fang Gourmet Tea. It was amazing. I came in expecting an ordinary tea store, where you look around and pick a tea you want from a box. While sure you can do that here, you have great option to also sample the tea with one of the employees. I came with a friend and we sampled two types of tea with one of the ladies who works there. She was very friendly and informative on the teas and procedure. You can tell the people who work there really love what they do.

Yelp
This is an authentic Chinese Tea ceremony place. All the stuff are well trained with the traditional Chinese Tea ceremony knowledge. You could really test the spirit of high mountain tea which relax your mind and soul. The tea may test bitter for the first sip but it will give you a sweet after test. This is really a magical momentum. Life is short! We should pamper our self in a healthier way.

Yelp
Best Taiwan-style tea house in NY. Be sure to subscribe to their email list for a schedule of special events - on weekends during the fall you can enjoy special selections of rare teas at the Sheraton (right next door). At the main shop, you can still sample teas from their broad catalog and enjoy cabinets packed with artisan teaware from Taiwan. There is also a good selection of basic porcelain and bamboo "tea essentials."
