New Suburban Massachusetts Drinking Destinations: Common Craft in Burlington, Farthest Star Sake in Medfield | Eater Boston

"A new sake brewery and taproom from founder Todd Bellomy that aims to produce local, minimally processed, hand-made sake; it’s billed as the only dedicated sake brewery/taproom in the region. Offerings will include a variety of filtered and cloudy styles, experimental small-batch releases, and educational events, with longer-term goals of producing shochu, brewing sake-influenced beers offsite, and creating carbonated rice-based non-alcoholic beverages. Opening weekend will feature a draft-only lineup of namazake (unpasteurized) and other small-batch experiments, plus Japanese packaged snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and merch. Opening-weekend hours are noon–9 p.m. on Saturday (May 28) and noon–6 p.m. on Sunday (May 29); dogs are not allowed." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

A Guide to Boston Restaurant Openings, Fall 2021 | Eater Boston

"A sake brewery and taproom project in Medfield led by a former Dovetail Sake brewmaster aiming to produce traditional filtered and cloudy sakes for on-site consumption and distribution, with plans for events, a food-truck partnership, shochu distillation, nonalcoholic rice-based drinks, and sake-influenced beers; construction and brewing timelines were delayed but expected to resume." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Boston-Area Beer and Brewery News, Summer 2020 | Eater Boston

"If its Mainvest investment campaign succeeds, this Medfield project aims to become New England’s only sake brewery and taproom under founder Todd Bellomy (formerly of Dovetail Sake). At launch Bellomy plans to produce traditional filtered and cloudy sake styles for the taproom and for distribution, host educational and experimental-batch events, and pursue longer-term plans that include a permanent food truck, expanded distribution, and a shochu distillery. Short-term revenue ideas listed on the campaign include selling sake kasu to chefs and confectioners, brewing sake-influenced beer offsite and fermenting in-house for draft sales, and creating carbonated rice-based nonalcoholic beverages; the campaign seeks $100,000 and had raised about $8,000 with under two months remaining." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Farthest Star Sake is a gem! The owners are knowledgable and friendly. They’ll happily provide recommendations and there are always so many unique sakes and sake cocktails to try. You can sit outside or inside in the brewery. We love taking our daughter here because we can enjoy the sake and the owner makes her a mocktail which makes our daughter feel extra special. It’s a very kid friendly place with authentic Japanese snacks and lots of room outside for kids to run around. You can also pop in next door for some pizza to go along with your sake. Really chill vibe, highly recommend!!

Google
Awesome place! This spot is super cool and worth visiting. Many types of sake, I went on May 4th so they had a few Star Wars themed drinks and also some 3D printed characters around! The sake is unique and delicious, the three I tried via a flight were really good. They don’t sell actual food (beyond Asian snacks) but had a local food pop up. Overall great experience even with it being busy!

Google
A true gem for any Sake lover. First heard of Farthest Star when I was up in Portland Maine, and was so pleasantly surprised to find out how close they were to me in MA. I picked up 2 of everything they offer and I haven’t been let down once. I popped in and out of their taproom, so can’t give a full review on that, but can say at first glance I was digging the Sci-Fi vibes. The husband/wife ownership team were extremely friendly informative, and were excited to gain another loyal customer. Check this place out at all costs.

Google
Where do I even start. The only Sake brewery in New England?! Fell in love first sip. I'd had Sake before..... you know Hibachi.... but this is a whole different level. The flavors, the environment, the knowledgeable (wise beyond his years) owner Todd, and his wonderful family. What a great place. It gets better and better with every visit. The flavors are like any other. Alot of folks often say Sake is like a "rice" wine.. but it really is its own catagory in itself. All of the Sake is named after original SiFi movies as well as the theme of the Brewery. If you haven't checked this place out yet, this is your sign to get there. Check out thier facebook for events such as SiFi book club, Comedy Nights, Food Pop-ups and even Bonsai Night! KANPAI! ✨️🍶

Google
Unique place! (As it’s the only sake brewery in New England). The fermenting tanks and sterile koji room, and custom made filtering pump that uses ozonated water… all right there while you enjoy a flight of 3 sakes for about $10 Also a small assortment of Japanese snacks for purchase and you can also BYOF (food).

Google
Had a great first visit to the only Sake brewery and taproom in New England. Good prices, good sake, friendly staff. They had a pop up food vendor that was very tasty. It looks like they have a lot of events like dinner and movie nights, which I’ll definitely be back for.

Google
Farthest Star Sake is a small, family-owned brewery located in Medfield, Massachusetts. They are the only sake brewery in New England, and they make their sake using traditional Japanese methods. The owner is clearly a very passionate sake maker who is always experimenting with new flavors and techniques. I recently visited Farthest Star Sake with a group of friends, and we were all very impressed with the quality of the sake. We tried a variety of different types, including junmai, ginjo, and daiginjo, and each one was delicious. We also really enjoyed chatting with the owner. In addition to the great sake, Farthest Star Sake also has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The taproom is small and intimate, and it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a few glasses of sake with friends. We would definitely recommend Farthest Star Sake to anyone who is looking for a great place to try some delicious sake. * The sake is delicious and made with traditional Japanese methods. * The owner is passionate about sake and is always experimenting with new flavors and techniques. * The taproom is small and intimate, and it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a few glasses of sake with friends.

Yelp
As a huge sake lover I was psyched to hear there was a sake brewery in MA. I decided to take the 45 minute drive out to Medfield yesterday to check out Farthest Star and I'm glad I did. The vibe here is very laid back. It's in an industrial park type of setting. Parking was a challenge and I thought it was due to the sake brewery but I'm guessing it was most likely the brewery next door as it wasn't busy when I arrived. The owner and his staff member were very nice. I ended up doing two different flights to experience all 6 of their offerings. Each one was unique. My favorite was probably the warm sake. There are some tables to sit at and they had a Korean pop up for food. I didn't buy any food as I was full. Overall, it was a cool experience and I'm hoping to see this company grow.

Yelp
Had a great visit up to Medfield and Farthest Star. The brewer/founder was also involved in Massachusetts first Sake brewery, Dovetail, and this time there's a taproom and a bunch of fun new styles. The taproom is conveniently located in the same industrial complex as 7th Wave Brewing. Its BYO-food, and the day of my visit there was a pop up Korean food stall. They also have cheap and good Japanese snacks right be hind the bar, wasabi peas, rice crackers, shrimp flavored chips, all the favorites. The vibe has something of the cafeteria in a warehouse to it, I kinda dig it. It's a perfect match for a takeout pizza from a place like Crisp (about 10 min away), which has great bar pie and all of the ambiance of a gas station donut counter. And for the real purpose of the visit, the sake was very good. They pour a very broad range of styles (something for everyone) leaning toward lighter fruitier types. The favorites on my trip, In a Strange Land, which is their "flagship" Junmai sake. Its flavor is pretty, lightly tropical, dry and clean. And the beautiful Barbarella's Elixir, it's purple hue and flowery candy flavor a result of the Ube sweet potato it's brewed with. Pretty Great Sake A-

Yelp
Fun place, lots of events. Sake is amazing. Sometimes they have really great food venders.

Yelp
Really lovely sake brewery in Medfield! We bought two flights so we could taste all their sakes, and they were all fantastic. Our favorite was Inner Light--very unusual and flavorful, almost savory. Mountains on the Moon and Hi Maggs! also stood out. (And check out the names of these sakes!) The space was super cute and very 80s-scifi, and the owner was very friendly and open. We went while a Korean popup (Damgeuda) was serving very tasty food as well, which was a nice complement to the sake. They also have games (e.g., Battlefield) that you can play while you sip. We ended up taking a few bottles home. Really nice way to spend an afternoon!

Yelp
Very fun atmosphere. Good sake. Yummy food truck. To go little sake crowlers. Recommend for a fun day.

Yelp
The Sake is always fresh and taste great. It's a fun atmosphere with a science fiction vibe.

Yelp
Great sake and always a fun time in the tasting room. I learned a lot about sake here, and it's much better than the stuff you normally get with your sushi. I know you're supposed to like the cold sake, and I do, but I really like the warm one. It's delicious. They also have a cocktail and a monthly comedy night that's really something. I appreciate that they could have made it look like Japan village at Epcot Center and it would have been filled with insufferable people talking about their year abroad in 1998, but instead they were like, Star Wars! And we're going to name out flagship sake after that Martian sex cult book. Perfect. No notes. Go get yourself some sake.

Yelp
Awesome, per usual! Fun atmosphere, delicious pop-ups, and an enjoyable experience every time! Will continue to visit again and again!
