"If you want Detroit-style that’s like a delicious history lesson, get a pizza from Fat Chris’s. This Andersonville spot uses the classic approach for the Motor City's signature pie, including putting thick “racing stripes” of sweet tomato sauce on top and cooking them in the same kind of factory pans that made this pizza an autoworker favorite decades ago. The bottom is crispy, the middle is doughy and garlicky, and the loaded toppings that don’t slide off make for an exciting overall chew. Every pie we’ve had here is excellent, but for Fat Chris’s mic drop, get The Goods. It has pepperoni, italian sausage, and banana peppers, and we wish we were eating it right now." - nick allen, adrian kane, veda kilaru, john ringor

"All of Chicago’s Michigan transplants (and there are a lot of you) should have Fat Chris’s on their pizza shortlist. Even if you don’t use your palm as a map, you need to know about the excellent Detroit-style pizza coming out of this Andersonville spot. Fat Chris’s has a classic approach to the Motor City’s signature pie, with thick “racing stripes” of sweet tomato sauce on top and a bottom crispiness thanks to the same kinds of factory pans that made this pizza an autoworker favorite decades ago. Every pizza we’ve had (either in-house or delivery) is excellent, but our favorite is The Goods, which also has the most toppings. It’s covered with italian sausage, peppers, and pepperoni—a great savory contrast to that tomato sauce. The front of Fat Chris’s is busy with people doing delivery and takeout. To maximize the Detroit energy, we like sitting in the dining space that has a big Chicago flag on the wall—with four orange Detroit Tigers D’s instead of blue stars, of course. Order the doughy and garlicky Motor City Cheesy Sticks while you wait for your pizza, and pair it all with a Labatt Blue on tap to feel just a little closer to Comerica Park." - Nick Allen
"For those who really want to have it their way, this Andersonville restaurant obliges. Customize your Detroit-style pizzas with a host of toppings like pepperoni, Canadian bacon, roast beef, pineapple, spinach, and more, along with the option of gluten-free crust. Can’t decide? There’s no going wrong with the specialty pies — the Big Tex features barbecue sauce, brisket, onions, green peppers, and perfectly caramelized edges. The pepperoni rolls are also a favorite." - Jeffy Mai
