"All of Chicago’s Michigan transplants (and there are a lot of you) should have Fat Chris’s on their pizza shortlist. Even if you don’t use your palm as a map, you need to know about the excellent Detroit-style pizza coming out of this Andersonville spot. Fat Chris’s has a classic approach to the Motor City’s signature pie, with thick “racing stripes” of sweet tomato sauce on top and a bottom crispiness thanks to the same kinds of factory pans that made this pizza an autoworker favorite decades ago. Every pizza we’ve had (either in-house or delivery) is excellent, but our favorite is The Goods, which also has the most toppings. It’s covered with italian sausage, peppers, and pepperoni—a great savory contrast to that tomato sauce. The front of Fat Chris’s is busy with people doing delivery and takeout. To maximize the Detroit energy, we like sitting in the dining space that has a big Chicago flag on the wall—with four orange Detroit Tigers D’s instead of blue stars, of course. Order the doughy and garlicky Motor City Cheesy Sticks while you wait for your pizza, and pair it all with a Labatt Blue on tap to feel just a little closer to Comerica Park." - Nick Allen
