"Fat Ox is a chic Italian restaurant where you’ll come for the excellent Happy Hour—which has the essence of an invitation-only club—and stay well past dinner. The Negronis and Amalfi Spritzes are the kind of drinks that make you feel like you’re at an exclusive Sicilian resort à la The White Lotus. Order them with the veal meatballs and Castelvetrano olives—it’s the closest you’ll get to aperitivo in Scottsdale. Like the stylish atmosphere, the regional Italian menu balances traditional and trendy. Grilled octopus with sherried garlic purée, pillowy kabocha squash-stuffed agnolotti dusted with 24-month-aged Vacche Rosse cheese, and wagyu beef cheek gnocchi lean into luxury, while the 25-layer lasagna is a comforting classic that reminds you why you came to this Italian restaurant in the first place." - Lauren Topor

"Named for an Italian food and wine festival honoring Piedmont’s cattle, Fat Ox specializes in hand-pulled cheeses, homemade pastas, and a variety of meats, slow-roasted over local mesquite and pecan wood. Two party options are the private dining room, which includes a private terrace and full-service bar, as well as a semi-private room which can be divided from the main dining room by sound-absorbing curtains. Family-style menus are also available for parties of eight or more." - Nikki Buchanan

"Fat Ox is the place to go for modern Italian food and the sort of see-and-be-seen crowd associated with Scottsdale. When it’s crowded (and that’s often), the Ox is noisy, but most customers pay no mind to the din once the riveting, beautifully plated food arrives. Pastas, one of the menu’s highlights, are made in-house daily, while premium proteins (think: Berkshire pork, branzino, Ora king salmon, and Linz Reserve steaks) are cooked over wood and charcoal in a custom-made hearth. This is light years from spaghetti and meatballs on a checkered tablecloth. For an affordable, fly-by experience, head to the glitzy bar for good cocktails and appetizers." - Nikki Buchanan

Fantastic dining experience! The atmosphere was energetic all evening, the service was incredible, and the food was insanely delicious. Came here with another couple and everything we ordered was phenomenal. Our server gave us great recommendations and advised which items would be good to share for the table and how to best order a wide assortment so everyone could try a little bit of everything. I’m glad we made reservations early because it filled up very quick. Can’t wait to come back!

Checking out @ilovefatox for the first time 👀 Why has it taken me so long to get here…. My Honest Review I love the spacious seating areas throughout the restaurant. There is a nice bar seating area as well as patio. Greeted immediately upon arrival. Seated immediately and our table was tended too quickly. Our server was amazing! Excellent customer service, he went over the menu description and specials for the evening as it was my first experience. We went with some of the most popular items such as Ox Caesar Salad 15$ - gem lettuce, white balsamic, anchovy, tomato crouton, Parmesan, basil, capers and EVO Gnocchi 30$ - Wagyu beef cheek, ricotta, fermented carrot, Allegrini Rosso 20oz Linz Reserve Ribeye 85$ - Jimmy Nardello Peppers, charred cipollini onions, aged balsamic Calabrian Roasted Cauliflower 12$ - hazelnut and capers Giusto’s Polenta, Cacio E Pepe 12$ - Parmesan fondue, toasted black pepper, benza olio Each dish brought the presentation, the flavors and the textures all together harmoniously. My palate was so excited. We finished dinner with one of the most exquisite affogato’s in town. Served with a toasted meringue and a rich yet smooth coffee. Heavenly 🤌🏽 📍 6316 N Scottsdale Rd

We had our Valentines Day dinner at the restaurant and the restaurant was completely packed. Food was exceptionally good but kitchen was running behind and food was taking a long time to come out. We were constantly being informed about the delay and had our drinks comped. But at the end of the dinner Brian the manager at the restaurant didn’t let us pay anything for the dinner and took care of it all. He made our Anniversary Dinner special and unforgettable, we appreciate the grand gesture and thank the whole team and especially Brian.

Google
Great restaurant, food was very good and service was pretty good as well. Outside seating had plenty of standing heaters so was still nice outside. Only negative would be the portions, could see the size as single but the main 2 were supposed to be shareable. When booked, said the Valentine's menu went thru the 16th but waiter had no clue and never came back after asking.

Excellent dining experience. From the beginning, our hostess Alex made us feel welcomed.Veal meatballs as our starter followed by gnocchi and lasagna were well balanced. Don’t skip the noble bread,it’s delicious.

Came in with a very large group for a work dinner. With a pre set menu. I Tried a Gin cocktail that was quite good. The pasta was delicious , they make it in house. Some people had steak and I had the Okra Salmon, I appreciated that it came by itself and not with typical potatoes. The charcuterie board and Cesar salad were just ok. I would like to come back to try other items on the menu. Staff was courteous. I heard they have a good happy hour. Nice ambiance from what I could see when arriving and leaving. (We were in a private room.) definitely worth revisiting.

Fat Ox is a must-visit in Scottsdale! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is upscale yet welcoming. The service is impeccable—attentive without being overbearing. Every dish we tried was incredible, but the handmade pastas truly steal the show. Bold flavors, perfect textures, and beautiful presentation. The Cacio e Pepe and Agnolotti are FIRE

Fat Ox is an outstanding dining experience! The ambiance is stylish yet comfortable, and the service is top-notch. Every dish is crafted with care—fresh pasta, perfectly cooked meats, and bold, delicious flavors. The cocktails and wine selection are also excellent. A must-visit in Scottsdale!

Yelp
Fat Ox is the perfect date night spot or the place to recommend when family or friends come into town. We went here for a date night while celebrating the holiday in Arizona. Our table was was nicely situated outside on the patio, which was equipped with several heaters. Our waitress was very nice advising us that it best to share a couple of plates and offered for the sommelier to come over to select a bottle of wine to go with our food. After ordering, we were served some focaccia with truffle butter, which was so fluffy and fresh- a perfect way to start the evening. We ordered then ordered the Burrata and the roasted Brussel Sprouts to share. The Burrata came with toasted bread and was fantastic due to the ability to easily taste the prosciutto, mozzarella, and apple all in one bite. For our mains, we shared the gnocchi, which was the literally the best gnocchi because it has the most delicate wagyu that melted in your mouth. The short rib was cooked just as well, where it literally fell apart as you tasted it. Since everything was so good, we had to order dessert. We got the tiramisu and the passionfruit tart. I was surprised that I really enjoyed the passionfruit tart (and highly recommend ordering it!) as opposed to the tiramisu. The tiramisu had a chocolate base that was really hard to cut/ eat and was interesting to eat with the banana in it.

Yelp
Was a fun night... Came here for our girls trip and boy did we drank and ate too much. A bit pricey for what it served, but overall, great ambiance and celebration with the best ppl!

Yelp
3.5/5! This restaurant was pretty good! The different items throughout our meal were kind of hit or miss, but the ones that were a hit were great and made for a net positive. The price point was reasonable for everything we ordered too. First, the complimentary focaccia bread was great. The bread itself was fluffy and I liked the whipped ricotta and Calabrian butter combination. It complemented the heavy oregano/Italian seasoning on the bread well. For drinks: my boyfriend's Old Fashioned was too syrupy and my Spitfire cocktail had a little too much going on with different flavors, but the Sauvignon Blanc and Bordeaux we got later were very good (it's more of a wine bar after all). The oysters were a decent size and nice and briney! The hot sauce added a bit of a kick but not too much. The octopus was cooked perfectly; it was charred on the outside but very tender on the inside. I only wish there was more of the octopus! The beef tartare had a good flavor, but it would've been better with a crostini or cracker. I did not like it with the leek or whatever root/vegetable it was paired with as it detracted from the tartare. We ordered the gnocchi and the short rib for our shared entrees. The gnocchi itself was perfectly pillowy but neither of us were a fan of the topping and flavor. I think this is on us for not reading the fine print, but it tasted like a stew on top of gnocchi, and it was overpowering (I'm also not a stewy or red wine sauce kind of person). The short rib was very tender but didn't have a ton of flavor on the meat or the purée. For dessert, we ordered the butterscotch budino and the tart. These were both amazing, and very rich! For the budino, the cream balanced out the sauce well, and overall it was just so smooth! For the tart, the passion fruit was definitely a kick in the mouth but it was balanced by the meringue. Both desserts had good proportions of cream to flavor to crunchy topping. Probably on the top of my list for desserts in the last year. Overall, the ambiance and service were good. It was a nice restaurant but still somewhat casual, which was nice for our occasion. It was very loud and busy when we got there around 7 (and we were seated near the front and in the middle of everything) but it calmed down about an hour in. I thought it was a little annoying that we had to order all our courses before they would put in our appetizers, as we were hungry to snack but weren't ready for a decision on entrees yet. However, they did spread the apps and entrees well. I would come back again and try many other things on the menu!

Yelp
This is such a cute and romantic place for date night! Indoor sitting was so cute, and outdoor sitting was super cute as well, though we sat inside. Got to try their beef tartare, sword fish, and gnocchi. First of all, complimentary bread was so yummy- it came with mascarpone and butter, i think I could eat those all the time. Just perfect! And beef tartare, I really like beef tartare here, it was perfectly seasoned and they put some sort of citrus I guess it was yuzu or something, that was so refreshing. Gnocchi was so yummy, I think it was short rib gnocchi, sauce was yummy, beef was good, and gnocchi was soft and cooked well. Sword fish was good, I like the sauce, but just not a huge fan of not fatty white fish. And their cappuccino was good, came with a butter cookie, was just perfect! Can't wait to come back and try other food :)

Yelp
Wowowow!! Amazing experience here, truly. A wonderful birthday dinner, so happy. I had requested a booth and marked that I am gluten free on my Open Table reservation. We walked in on time and were seated right away at a four top booth, just what I wanted, so my boyfriend and I could sit next to each other!! The restaurant was quite busy so I greatly appreciate having this table set aside. Kristy was our server, and she was wonderful. Very sweet and knowledgeable and brought up me being gluten free right away, saying that the pastry chef is alerted. She talked us through the different cocktails, asking which liquors are my favorite. We decided on a bottle of wine so she had the sommelier come over. He was very nice and knowledgeable and recommended the most delicious 2022 Italian Pinot Noir. It did take a while for the wine to come out but there's only one sommelier so I get he's busy! It was fun drinking out of the huge wine glasses. Typically it seems people order an app and/or pasta dish and then a main entree. Kristy talked through all the gf options, in which one pasta the truffle one could be made gluten free which was nice to know! They do not have gluten free bread, sad! My boyfriend loved loved the complimentary bread that came out and the roasted red pepper butter. We decided just to order our mains, I got the half chicken and he got the full chicken. My chicken came out with pita bread on it, which I cannot eat. I got a new dish right away, not sure if they just took the bread off or gave me a new plate. The polenta was outstanding, so decadent, rich, cheesy. It was almost a cool temperature when it came out though, as if it had been sitting for a while. The chicken was so juicy and tender, big fan. I ate it with the caramelized onions (YUM YUM) and delicious white creamy tangy sauce the dish came with (I think you were supposed to eat the pita bread with those sides but I could not obviously). It would've been nice to have another option in place of the pita bread since it's a nice restaurant, but it was a lot of food regardless. There was also a cute little bottle of hot sauce for the chicken. It wasn't too spicy !! There was a gluten free tiramisu brought out for my birthday, with an espresso ice cream and chocolate espresso balls. It was so frickin good. A perfect way to end a meal, we were there for three hours and had an enjoyable time

Yelp
Perfecto! The attention to detail and execution of the dishes had us speechless. Fat Ox is uniquely Italian inspired. Modern and sensational. We booked on OpenTable. The restaurant is easy to access, parking and complimentary valet outfront. The service was attentive but not annoying. I don't want to make any suggestions because I would eat everything on the menu and will be back to do so. The portions are not too big or too little. Enough to walk away satisfied and not stuffed.

James S.

Yelp
I told myself I would not return after my first visit, but it had been a few years and my options were limited, being Christmas day... I will be kind and compliment the service, given the spirit of the season, but I will refrain from given my opinion of the food.

Joe P.

Yelp
Fat Ox was on a list of Italian places to hit in Scottsdale. It was literally right across the street from the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas where we stayed. We started off w/ veal meatballs and octopus to share. The meatballs were rich and creamy, but at $4/each HH were overpriced (common theme). Likewise, the octopus was nice and tender. But the price was ridiculous for one tentacle. My scallops were like butter, and had a nice crisp on them. Nonetheless, $12/each was pricey IMHO. Lastly, the brussel sprouts were crispy and tart. Our waitress, Miriam was super nice and attentive. Regarding the ambiance, there is a nice bar with high tops, and a main dining room with regular tables. All in all, a positive experience. Just expect high prices.

Austin L.

Yelp
Fat Ox is a stellar choice for a date night, with its sleek, modern ambiance and dim lighting setting the perfect mood for a romantic evening. The service is polished yet friendly, adding to the overall refined experience. We opted for the summer tasting menu, and while every course was thoughtfully prepared, the pasta truly stole the show. Each dish was a masterclass in balance and technique. The textures, flavors, and freshness were unforgettable. The other courses were solid, though they didn't quite hit the same level as the pasta. While it's on the pricier side, the ambiance and quality make it worth it for a special night out. Fat Ox delivers a sophisticated dining experience that's sure to impress.

Yelp
09/22/2024 - *** THEY DO NOT DO TABLESIDE CEASAR SALAD since covid *** Great service and overall experience. We found this place on Yelp while visiting from out of town, and we're glad we came. The staff was welcoming, and they explained the menu really well. I was hoping to get a Caesar salad made tableside, but they stopped doing that since COVID, which was a bit disappointing. Still, we ordered it--it tasted good but had a bit too much lemon and seemed a little soggy, like it wasn't freshly made. However, my girlfriend really enjoyed it. We had: * complimentary bread - very good * OX CAESAR SALAD - It was okay, but not great. They charged us extra for sharing, so instead of $15, it was over $20. When we said sharing, we just meant she would have some of my salad. * TAJARIN CACIO E PEPE - AMAZING ( FYI it's just pasta) * BRICK GRILLED CHICKEN - AMAZING ( Combine all the sides provided with the dish into the tortillas, and you'll enjoy it) * GREEN GOLD tequila, pistachio, cucumber, chimichurri - not too bad * CHRISTIAAN'S G&T compound gin, lemongrass, grapefruit, tonic - not too bad * GIANDUJA FRANGELICO TIRAMISU roasted banana, hazelnut, espresso gelato - AMAZING desert We definitely will be back.

Yelp
I visited Fat Ox together with my date on Sunday the 15 August. Both of us were first-time diners at this beautiful restaurant. Gabby, our lovely waitress for the evening, set a friendly tone and helped us make excellent choices. We split the house Caesar Salad which was one of the best I've tasted. Our pasta course was perfectly Al dente with a coating of amazing Marinara sauce, wow. Branzino is featured on the menu and our orders were perfectly prepared. We were celebrating my friend's business deal and they served us a lovely Tiramisu dessert as a finale. Overall it was a great date night for us and we're vowing to return!

Yelp
Nicely greeted upon arrival. The seat by the window (high top) facing the McDowells was nice. This is a popular place with regulars hugging and chatting. It was very busy. Though friendly and helpful at first the waitress didn't follow my instructions for payment, it was awkward. The complimentary bread was good with the spread, thanks. The meatballs were good but all veal might've been tastier. The sight of the Brussels sprouts was unappetizing and after an initial bite I relinquished the rest to my friend.

Marcy Y.

Yelp
Great place for a super dim lit date night dinner location if you're not a big eater and if you don't mind a pricier meal. If you are very hungry and trying to eat on an economical budget, I suggest to look elsewhere. Their portions are on the "gourmet"/smaller size. Our waitress suggested we get an item from each section of the menu ( appetizer, small plate and entree). For an appetizer we got the veal meatballs (3 regular small meatballs). For the second we got the Tortelloni ( also only 3 regular sized pieces). And for the entree we purchased an $85 steak. The food was good, albeit the final price may not fully align to the portions or the offerings. Our server was incredibly bubbly and nice. Loved her energy.

Yelp
Dear fellow food adventurers, buckle up for a journey into Fat Ox, where making a reservation is harder than getting your dad to understand TikTok. This isn't just dinner - it's a full-blown production that would make Broadway jealous. Let's talk drinks, because that's how all good decisions start. Their cocktail menu recently got a makeover that puts most Hollywood transformations to shame. Take the "Spice Queen" - it's like they threw a party in a glass and invited whisky, chicory, black cardamom, turmeric, and vanilla. Then there's the "Green Gold," which is basically a garden having a wild night out with tequila. Not that I'm complaining - my taste buds were doing backflips. They serve house bread with ricotta spread, which is their way of saying, "Here's something to distract you while you take out a second mortgage for dinner." The steamed mussels and veal meatballs are what I call "appetizers for overachievers" - they're so good they make other restaurants' main courses look like cafeteria food. Now, let's discuss the Rosso Creste di Gallo pasta. It's got more ingredients than my dating profile: red wine, dandelion greens, duck sausage, mushrooms, and huckleberries. It's like Chef Matt Carter played culinary Mad Libs and somehow created a masterpiece. And don't even get me started on the 25-layer lasagna - it's taller than most NBA players and twice as satisfying. Speaking of Chef Matt Carter, this man pays more attention to detail than my ex analyzing my social media posts. Every dish is orchestrated with the precision of a Swiss watch maker who's had too much espresso. Fair warning: after eating here, you'll develop what I call "Fat Ox Syndrome" - an incurable condition where all other restaurants suddenly seem like they're serving microwaved TV dinners. Your taste buds will become such snobs, they'll start wearing tiny monocles.

Yelp
Came for happy hour just to grab a drink and quick bite. Always passed this place but never gave it much attention. When I walked in, I saw how beautiful and big the place actually was! Happy hour is only in the bar area, and the high top tables are surrounded by huge windows. Really great ambiance! I was coming straight from work and wanted something to snack on while I caught up with a friend. So I ended up getting the whipped ricotta and a glass of white sangria. The sangria tasted like juice (in a good, dangerous way)! The ricotta was good but it could've used some acidity or honey. Something to give it a little more flavor. Next time I'll come with more of an appetite to try out more happy hour bites, but will definitely stick with the sangria (maybe red to switch it up).

Billie G.

Yelp
The Fat Ox has the best happy hour! The bar is so stunning inside and the high top tables are included in the happy hour seating as well. The drinks are great! The service is fast. My favorite dish was the Radiatori Alla Buttera the pasta with cured pork sugo, broccolini, tomato, burrata, salsa verde! It was so good we ordered three servings of it. The Fat Ox is a greta place to bring friends for happy hour or a quick meal. Highlight recommend! Super fun place to dress up and go out.

Yelp
My husband and I have been going to the Fat Ox in Scottsdale for years. It is in a great location and they serve phenomenal food. They have a fantastic happy hour served at the bar and st the high tops. The service is second to none and the food is fresh. They have a great variety of different dishes and their drinks are fabulous. Miriam took great care of us and Brian the manager does a great job promoting a wonderful client experience. If you're looking for a great night out whether it's with friends or romantic night, the Fat Ox is the place to be.

Yelp
Add this restaurant to your date night list. Located in North Scottsdale, this restaurant is pretty impressive. When you first arrive, it looks like a huge glass house. Which it looked so cool at night. We went on a Friday night, and it was quite busy. However we were able to grab a spot by the bar. The bartender was amazing. he was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the food menu and the drink menu. We went with one of his recommendations, which was the brick grilled chicken. The presentation was beautiful. The chicken came on a board with all the side, dishes and sauces. It wasn't the best chicken I ever had. However, it was a very solid dish. The chicken with the vinaigrette plus the hot sauce was the perfect combination. For the dessert we got the tiramisu. The presentation was also beautiful But it wasn't memorable. It tasted like any other tiramisu. Overall, our experience was good. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a good date night spot, where the food and service are both solid.

Yelp
Came here for date night on a Saturday night. We were greeted promptly by the host staff and taken to our table a moment later. Our server Krissi was amazing. She was friendly and very prompt with service. We started with the veal meatballs for an appetizer, then our main dish and desert. The meatballs were flavorful. I had the salmon and my date had the halibut, but were delicious. We finished with a chocolate cake for desert. Would definitely go back.

Jonathan Z.

Yelp
Absolutely loved our anniversary dinner at the Fat Ox. We made a last-minute dinner resy on OpenTable and they were able to seat us earlier than scheduled. The sommelier was really helpful in selecting a bottle of white wine from the wine list. It was a pretty busy Friday night so we understood when there were lulls in the service. Regardless, the food was phenomenal. Started with the Caesar salad and it had a nice acidity to it and the crunchy Parmesan crisp gave it a nice texture. Complimentary focaccia was also very good and we loved the Calabrian butter, as well as the whipped ricotta dip. The Radiatori Alla Buttera is a must order. Love the shape of the pasta that holds onto the delicious pork Sugo and red sauce so well. Reminiscent of a bolognese sauce. Definitely a delicious bite every time. Would order again. The half brick chicken was perfect to share for two. Juicy and well-seasoned white and dark meat served with grilled tortillas, caramelized onions, crema sauce, and their own hot sauce in a cute little squeeze bottle. Honestly a symphony of flavors that all marry together in the perfect bite. Would def order this again. Finally, the gianduja tiramisu was a great ending to dinner with the decadent espresso ice cream and plenty of little crunchies on the plate for our texture lovers. Complimentary to celebrate our anniversary. Reviews of this place are pretty mixed and we had our reservations also but we're glad we came in. Lots of good options, friendly staff, and definitely a memorable dinner out in Scottsdale. Don't sleep on this place.

Yelp
Highly touted Fat Ox lives up to its press, not withstanding some kinks along the way. As a California guy I felt like I was in a LA scene at times with a certain "take it or leave it attitude." Included. This place is billed as an upscale Italian restaurant. Like Frank Sinatra they do it their way. Period. Not always making sense. So the score "4" is food. I'd give it a "2" for attitude. The bar is where you're shuffled to while waiting for your table. It's a lovely area and the bar is A1. The lists are fantastic and the prices would shock even LA. Wine at least 4x markup. Come on. Cocktails in the $25 range because the individual choices are over the top. Doesn't seem to matter as the bar was packed. When it came time to go to our table they refused to transfer the liquor to do dinner tab. Why make it easy on the diner? This way of course the server is ensured to get her tip even though inconvenient for customer. So hostess leads us to our dinner table in the back 40 practically in the kitchen and in direct path of the servers rushing out the kitchen. I said, "this won't do please move us." She replied , "we're full and I'm sorry but no." I simply walked back to the front of the house, explained the problem and she moved us to one of those non existing nice tables. Our server was a good guy and as he explained the ordering process he described items of interest and we ordered. Two of us had a first course, one of us did not but all of us had 2 courses and one course for the table. What was finally delivered was the course for table with two first courses. We had asked for table course first-- didn't Happen and only two courses showed up. I flagged him over and explained - he does the "you must be kidding" your other party didn't order a first course so his comes 2 ( even though you both aren't doing a course 2." Am I believing any of this at this point? Wouldn't it make sense that the whole table eats together?anyway he puts the order in to try and fix it but I will say he thought we were nuts. Ok, food good. The rest you know. Bottom line be explicitly clear or you'll be doing catch up.

Yelp
I was treated to dinner here on December 30th for my birthday. I have been in before 3 years ago with a large group but don't really remember the experience. I remember it being darker inside though. This time, it was just two of us. We went a little before the dinner rush so we got parking right in front and were seated right away. It was nice and open inside. Our server Anadela (sorry if spelled wrong) was fantastic and friendly. Great service! I ordered The Handshake cocktail and let him order everything else. He ordered one of his usuals (vodka soda lime) and ordered us the ceasar salad, 2 orders of the oysters, garganelli pasta, cacio e pepe, 20oz ribeye, roasted mushroom & roasted brussels. We then added on the gigli pasta because he wanted one with red sauce. They gave us complimentary bread with calabrian chili butter and some dip. I forgot what the white dip was but both were pretty good! Everything we got was delicious. I would skip on the cacio e pepe next time but would definitely order the other two pastas again. For my birthday dessert, I chose the butterscotch budino and I am glad I did. It was soooo good! He knew the owner Brian and had texted him about the good service and food so they gave us tequila shots on the house at the end. Thank you! Overall, great experience. For just the 2 of us, our bill was about $350. He likes a variety when he orders lol Not pictured: any of the 4 drinks + shots

Yelp
Went here for happy hour which runs from 4-6:30 that extra 30mins helps. We ordered their happy hour wine which was $9 and you have her choice of red or white. They also have a few cocktails on the happy hour menu. We ordered the Veal meatballs which were amazing and the 8oz Linz steak that was on happy hour. The steak was tender, seasoned perfectly and came with a arugula salad. I will definitely be hitting up this spot again! Service was amazing

Yelp
Booked a last minute dinner at the Fat Ox on OpenTable while we were in town for Thanksgiving weekend. Place was super vibey with a nice bar/lounge area and plenty of parking. It was definitely packed, so I'm surprised they had a table and were able to seat us a bit early! We ordered the (not actually table side) caesar salad, the radiatori alla buttera, and the half brick chicken. All were delicious! The chicken was probably the standout - came with some cute little sauce bottles and all the fixings! Complimentary tiramisu was a nice treat (we were celebrating an anniversary) to end everything off. The service was a bit slow - but for a busy Friday night, we understood...and weren't in a huge rush, it was noticeable though. Great wine selection and overall good vibe. Definitely a must try when in Scottsdale!

Yelp
Must do, just north of Old Town. Grab a Waymo and head up North Scottsdale, worth it. Meatballs served on bed of polenta was outstanding. Cacio de Pepe best I have had. Pricey but Happy Hour is a good score....wish the martini pour was a bit more generous.

Yelp
Wow! I will be thinking about the meal that I had at Fat Ox for a while. The inside is very swanky- dimly lit, trendy interior, and the crowd is dressed to the nines. We had a prime-time weekend reservation, but we were still seated pretty much immediately, which I appreciate. Our server was amazing. She gave tons of recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the menu. She checked on us often but did not come across as overbearing and we did not feel rushed. She cleaned our table in between courses and didn't make a big deal about it when we spilled a drink. For starters, we had the Ceasar salad and Burrata di Stephano. The salad is served with a delicious bread stick/crouton and the Burrata is served with a pea mixture that is super unique and lovely. They also bring out bread with super yummy seasoned butter. For our mains, we had the Radiatore Alla Buttera, Cacio E Pepe, and the vegetarian bolognaise (I can't remember what this dish was called). They were all spectacular. The vegetarian one was probably the least favorite, but still amazing nonetheless. We also had a side of brussels which were great. For cocktails, we had espresso martinis all around and they were perfect! I would absolutely return to Fat Ox and recommend it to anyone for a night out!

Yelp
We had an interesting dining experience here! First of all, the waitress really emphasized that the pasta portions are very small, however they really are more than generous, so keep that in mind. We had dinner for 4 and got a bunch of things to share. We got an appetizer, 4 pasta dishes, and 3 sides and that was more than enough food. Some food was good and so was mediocre. My favorite was the pasta with pork and the sautéed mushroom side. Our waitress got several things mixed up, we were originally brought the wrong bottle of wine, charged for a completely other bottle of wine and then my credit card was charged for someone else's table. The were apologetic and offered some complimentary wine but overall a bit of a miss. Also, the patio is basically in the parking lot so not the best ambience, maybe they should decorate with bushes or other landscaping? For a place that was so well recommended, I thought it was just ok.

Yelp
Came for drinks and snacks with friends Wonderful interior Had an awesome server Marriam M! She was attentive and helpful! Food was tasty. Fun time overall!

Yelp
Everything is delicious, especially the chicken. The chicken is so soft, tender and flavorful. Even the free bread is delicious. Ambiance is nice we sat in the high top table next to the bar. Waitress is friendly. Food came out pretty fast too. Overall, this is a nice experience.

Yelp
Went with my brother and dad over the holidays. Great food, great service, would definitely go back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Wow, where do I start!!! Came here for Valentines day early diner with friends. Sat outside on patio with heaters, and nice vegetation blocking out noise from around place. Really nice vibe. Felt like I was down in S. Cal on the ocean for some reason :-) Set 4-course menu of 1) salad, 2) pick-one starter (had a hard time making up my mind; 3) pick-one main course (also difficult) and 4) pick-one desert. The place was packed for V-day, and I'm sure we stayed a bit beyond our time allocation, but we were never rushed. Our server was knowledgeable and not afraid to offer her personal likes. Wine list is fabulous, heavily waited to Italy, but also some outstanding CA and OR reds, as well as Bordeaux and Burgundy. Wish I could remember all the choices, because I kept saying .. I'll be back to try that one!! After the Caesar salad starter, I ordered the ricotta with pear (served in a little dish with olive oil in the bottom and some mint leaves, and some good bread for mopping it all up. For my main, endulged in the optional Wagyu Rib-eye Cap (+$90). Wow, melted in my mouth. And we selected a Italian Barolo for the main pairing, which was perfect. Some of the other starters our table tried included the grilled octopus and the beet infused pasts (all delicious) and went well with the Dom champagne we shared. Other mains included the Branzino, and the filet. Everything was cooked perfectly and served elegantly, and again, perfect timing between courses. For dessert, I selected the butterscotch Budino, but we also tried the gelato and chocolate tart. I could have spent the whole night here just enjoying this experience. I will be back even though its N Scottsdale location is a bit of a drive for me. There is complimentary valey parking right in front of Fat Ox, so no worries. This is just a really cozy and nicely appointed special dining spot. Pricey $$$$, but oh so worth it.

Yelp
Service was friendly and helpful. DIning with friends. Had lasagna and it was good, not exceptional. Bit dry. Bus help came and started to remove my bread dish and butter....I was still eating it. Fast service. small portions and a bit pricy. Bread focaccia was good with seasoned butter. My drink was good but small. Dessert was yummy. I would give it another try in the future.

Yelp
Came here with a big group for a bachelor party. Just wanted to comment honestly on my experience Honestly, the food tasted really good. I enjoyed the steak and the way it was cooked (might be a bit rare for some taste but that's subjective) Ambiance and our server were both super nice. However, I did suffer from some food poisoning from the pork pasta. I know this because we were split into two tables. The table closer to the bathroom all came down with runs or were throwing up by the end of the night. I sat in the other table, but had some of the pork pasta since I was hungry. On the ride home, I almost threw up in the Uber, but managed to have our driver pull over. To my knowledge, Fat Ox management has not reached out to our group to help make things right. They have instead made snarky comments on our honest reviews. I'd appreciate it if they would reach back out to us to help make things right.

Yelp
I love writing amazing reviews when the food is spectacular the service is above and beyond. However, this is not one of those. I'm warning everyone to check your credit card statement along with your receipt no matter where you go there will always be scammers. We happen to get one of them at this place. How disturbing!! This week a friend of mine and I went to Fat Ox sat the bar had a lovely evening except for the massive smell of weed throughout the bar area near the end of our evening everyone was wondering where it was coming from they could not help it, but it was a big disruptive odor to our evening. Then today to my surprise my credit card company, emails me for suspicious activity thank goodness for them big shout out to Capital One. The bartender decided to add $18 to my receipt!!! I'm wondering how they got away with this because don't you have to batch out all credit cards at the end of the evening they couldn't tell that someone wrote in an amount that wasn't there that didn't match with my total? Well, I keep every receipt which I have my original one. I did call first thing this morning and left them a message. I have not heard back from anyone yet. giving them the opportunity not just to credit me, but to go above and beyond make up for their I will no longer be going to this establishment Nor will I promote it. I'm completely disgusted by the actions of a very upscale establishment, and the employees who represent them. If Capital One would not have emailed me, I would have caught it the first week of January when I go through all of my statements and match up my receipts this just made it a lot quicker. Moral of the story is check your receipts. Keep your receipts, so you have a copy of them and check against your statement. They are always going to be evil people in the world.

Yelp
Really good food. The drinks aren't that good. Got the steak and my friend got the scallops. Delicious! To bad for parties more then 6 they do a specific menu for a high price.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick happy hour after we went shopping. Loved the service and the food that we ordered. The meatballs was particularly my favorite part of the order. Despite sharing everything with my boyfriend, I was full for the rest of the night.

Mary S.

Yelp
We were a party of six. The food was pretty good, but they encourage you to eat several courses, so if you just pick a first or second plate, you'll be disappointed with the quantity. We ordered a couple different appetizers, and I have to say that the oysters were delicious. The service was okay. The drinks from the bar were spot on. We each had one or two. They sat us inside...in a corner. I made my reservation well in advance of our visit and told them that it was a special occasion, AND requested a great table, but we still were stuck back in an undesirable corner. It would've been nice to sit outside. The person who took my reservation asked me if we wanted to sit outside, but never having been to the restaurant, I didn't know that the seating would be so beautiful outside. She should have told me. I just asked to be seated inside or outside, whichever would be nicer. I doubt we'll be back. The experience just isn't worth the money.

Yelp
We were there to celebrate our birthday. The food was good but the service was the worst. First, we didn't receive any kind of celebration, not even a word of Happy Birthday, even though we mentioned it when we reserved the table. Second, when the waiter cleaned up our table, he dropped the knives into the cup of water, and the glass cup broke and water spilled over my dress and table, the leftover tomato sauce from the mussel dish splashed on my white shirt as well, the waiter just said "ok, it's alright, no problem." instead of apologizing to the mess he made. He didn't even take care of us or give us any cloth to wipe since we all got wet and the stain on my white shirt is still visible after I washed for a few times. Third, when we asked a waitress to take a photo for us, she rolled her eyes and sighed and then took the photo. The whole experience was just like a disaster and feel like no one showed any respect or care to us, especially since it was on birthday, which made it worse. Me and our friends all said we didn't want to come back anymore.

Yelp
This was honestly the best cacio e pepe I have had. I normally am not impressed with that as a meal. The half chicken was also pretty good and came with a lot of stuff that I was quiet surprised about( definitely the most worth it on their menu). You can never go wrong with Burrata. The only complaint is that it was very hard to make alterations on the meals. Majority of the pastas have pig and were either cooked into the sauce or just hard to change. Essentially there were 2 pastas to choose from and I was slightly disappointed.

Jenifer R.

Yelp
Yes, absolutely- A MUST!!!!!!! Reservations highly recommended. Service and food is PHENOMENAL. MUST TRY: ricotta with bread, octopus, wagu. Drinks are a little weak, Tito's and soda taste like water. Stick with wine.

Yelp
Food and restaurant aesthetic were great - however SERVICE was very POOR. I made reservations for a birthday dinner celebration, but the experience did not feel special at all. Our server "Cocktail M" as shown on the tab, had very disappointing service traits: didn't provide any drinks/food recommendations until I asked specific questions, rarely checked in on us, was absent most of our dining experience (I had to flag down the manager to ask for a steak knife for our entree and the cocktail menu for another drink order), didn't ask if we were in for a special occasion (even though I heard the server ask the table next to us)...for a nicer restaurant like Fat Ox, I assumed higher service expectations was a norm.

Ziad S.

Yelp
Got the jet set cocktail, mussels appetizer, shrimp appetizer, veal meatballs, and 2 of the pastas. Everything was just okay. For the size, definitely over priced. They say it's family style meant to share but the shrimp and meatball appetizers come with 3 of each which can't even serve 2 people. Meatballs were honestly the best part of the meal as the 2 pastas we got were pretty basic. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great. Menu leaves room for improvement.

Yelp
Stopped for dinner on a Sunday evening. Bar staff was friendly and efficient, tho we didn't order any drinks this time. Food had some real hits- the bread plate, caesar salad, and cacio e pepe past were all fab. I didn't care for the burrata/pea plate or the branzino, both needed more seasoning for my tastes, though presentation was pretty. Brussels sprout side was good to share- a big serving, but a few bites were enough for me, would order a different side next time. Would return to try out the cocktails and other pasta plates, too.

Yelp
Well, I was very disappointed. I had the saffron pasta dish which tasted fine but the portion was the size of an ice cream scoop. My wife had the lasagna which had very little flavor. Our server was efficient but did a poor job explaining the menu when we had questions. I ended up Googling the menu items to see what they were (they were in Italian). The ambiance was nice. Wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
My friend asked me what I wanted to eat for my birthday and I said how about Italian for a change of pace. We took a look at a list of contenders and ended up choosing here. After looking at the menu, we decided to get veal meatballs and pansotti to share. The meatballs were highly recommended by our server but ended up being underwhelming, a little too dry for our liking. The pansotti however, was delicious. The paprika vinaigrette really stood out. For our main entrees, my friend got the filet, and I got the New Bedford scallops. My friend said that the filet was very tender, but didn't care for the sauce or that potatoes that came with it. My scallops on the other hand, were cooked to melt in your mouth perfection. Nice and tender and evenly seasoned. I also thought the spiced carrots and miso worked well with the scallops. However, I didn't care for the sunflower seed risotto underneath. It was a little too earthy for my taste buds in contrast with the scallops. Since we always have room for dessert, you know we couldn't pass up on trying something off their dessert menu when the time came! My friend chose the tiramisu while I chose the butterscotch budino. Friend said the tiramisu was okay, nothing special. My butterscotch budino though? Phenomenal. This was my favorite thing I had from here the whole night. The portion size was bigger than I thought it'd be. The texture was spot on, nice and creamy and most importantly it wasn't too sweet. Just the way I like it. Overall, the service was attentive, fast and friendly. The ambience was nice and inviting for all types of groups, a meal with the family, date night, birthday, dinner with business associates etc. Unfortunately, nothing stood out to us that would make us want to frequent this place regularly. I'd only come back if somebody chose this spot to celebrate a special occasion.

Yelp
A year ago, I visited this place to celebrate my son's birthday, and we were treated to phenomenal service by Maryam. Every recommendation she made was exceptional. When we returned this year and specifically requested her, once again, our group experienced outstanding service. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed the exceptional service, from the delightful cocktail drinks to the delicious food recommendations, which were loved by all. We wholeheartedly recommend this establishment and eagerly anticipate returning in the future.

Yelp
We went with a group of 20 guys for a bachelor party and got the prix fixe group package. The food was decent and service was pretty good too. However, when we got back to the house that night, more than half the group came down with food poisoning ie vomiting, diarrhea. It was our last meal in Scottsdale for the weekend, and we were expecting a nice night at a top tier restaurant. Instead, half our group ended up very sick, and we had to cancel our plans for the rest of the night. Come here if you want to spend a couple days after on the toilet.
