"Floataway Cafe, co-owned by James Beard award-winning chef Anne Quatrano, is closing Friday, December 23, after 25 years on Zonolite Road. The restaurant is known for serving rustic French-Italian dishes and has a dog-friendly courtyard patio. Quatrano opened Floataway in 1998 with husband and business partner chef Clifford Harrison in a converted warehouse just off of Briarcliff Road. Floataway offered diners the same refined culinary touch and commitment to local ingredients as Bacchanalia, but in a more casual and laidback setting." - Beth McKibben

"Floataway Cafe is date night-chic all the way. But we’re not gonna lie, we get X-Files vibes whenever we pull up to this Druid Hills restaurant, housed in an old warehouse and looking like a suspiciously ideal spot to do research on alien lifeforms (just us?). Get past that, because once you do step inside, the mood is welcoming, relaxed, and romantic. Divided into four dining areas—with a courtyard patio—there's enough space that you’ll feel like you have the whole place to yourself even when there’s a full house. Floataway has an a la carte, micro-seasonal menu inspired by French, Mediterranean, and Italian cuisines—we especially like the super flaky oven-roasted loup de mer, which is simply prepared with fennel and herbs. The cocktail menu also plays in the garden with drinks like the gin-based Botanist, elevated with a hint of thyme, rosemary and St. Germain." - Nina Reeder

Excellent experience from the moment we arrived for dinner. Had reservations and they seated us immediately. Very inviting atmosphere with pleasant lighting. The decor was tastefully put together with large tables and incredibly soft chairs. We ordered the old-fashioned made with smoked rosemary. Try this drink if you enjoy a complex and unique tasting old-fashioned. We ordered the Octopus and Okra small plates. The Octopus had excellent texture and charring and the okra was perfect. For the main course we ordered the Loup De Mer (just amazing and tasty) as well as the Bavette. The Bavette was excellent but a bit more rare than the medium-rare we ordered. Understandable for a thicker piece of meat. Recommend ordering medium if you shy away from rare. Dessert was the Gateu Victoire and Local Apple Oat crisps. Perfectly executed. Service was top-notch and price was appropriate. This establishment clearly takes pride in what they offer. Highly recommend, will be back soon!

I loved the ambiance and vibes of this place — it was something out of a movie with a very quiet outside area, but as soon as you pass the 90s-esque grunge windows, you enter into a wonderfully large space. The seats were nice, and each area was divided into rooms, along with a small curtain separating your table from the main walkway. The initial bread was given, and the olive oil carried all the wonderful flavor, I wish the bread was warm, however, and that would’ve made it easier to chew. I did not like my drink very much (Dressed to Kill), so I would probably get something else, or nothing at all. I also thought it was creative to create celery bitters, but the drink (Body Double) was not my cup of tea either. The Brussel Sprouts were very tasty, although I wish there was some flaky sea salt sprinkled on top as garnish. The meals were quite nice! The Chicken Schnitzel was very flavorful and paired excellently with the apples and ricotta. The Braised Lamb Gnocchi was excellent! The gnocchi was so pillowy and fluffy and the sauce and lamb was absolutely to die for. After a while, I thought the dish became a little too salty for my liking, but I have been told I am sensitive to salt so that was probably it. All in all, I loved both dishes. The Gateau Victoire and Strawberry Hand Pie were excellent desserts. Would highly recommend whatever variation of hand pie being served because the flavors are there and it is uniquely in its crispy shell. I love a flourless chocolate cake and the Gateau Victoire was no exception. Loved the combination with the whipped cream. Yum! Now some cons: The cushioned seats were comfortable, yes, but provided no lumbar support and were at an almost 90° angle. Hard to find a comfortable resting incline. The servers were pretty nice, however the service was a little slow. I imagine it’s due to a shortage in servers (pay servers higher!!), but our server was extremely kind and thoughtful and we were celebrating so the Gateau Victoire was on the house! All in all, would eat here again! Also love that the menu seems to rotate!

I fell in love with this hidden gem!!!! This little gem is hidden in the back of a court yard down a side road. Definitely wasn't expecting a restaurant to be tucked away. Who would have known they have been here for 20 years!!! As my husband and I entered, we were both blown away at the beauty of the restaurant. Very simple decor but nice. Clean lines and neutral colors. The selection on the menu would please even the pickiest eater. There is definitely something for everyone. I ordered the wood smoked octopus with pole beans. My husband ordered the Wood Oven Roasted Loup De Mer (fish) dish and salad. The dishes weren't overly complicated but the taste was amazing. Absolutely delicious

Google
Delicious farm-to-table food. Our meal was mouth-wateringly good. The drinks were superb and the service was on point. The pesto that covered my gnocchi was perhaps a bit salty, but the gnocchi itself was handmade and some of the best I've had. Our favorite dish though was the watermelon, peach, and heirloom tomato salad with feta and mint. We look forward to being able to come back another time.

Google
Lovely setup and atmosphere. Wanted to complain about the steak (see picture), but waited for more than 30 minutes and the server never showed up (he showed up finally when I was writing this review but he just briefly checked the nearby table and went away).

Nice vibe, intimate setting, private and social distance style seating...food was great, drinks were delicious...wait staff and Manager were wonderful!

Google
Consistently a great experience a Floataway Cafe. Food is creative and delicious. Service is always exceptional. We always sit at one of the small circular tables in the corner of the bar room.

Google
Our waiter was more than accommodating and polite. Location was very cool, hidden away from the main road so felt very prohibition style. Inside the restaurant did not live up to that expectation sadly. Food wasn't bad but nothing to write home about. Definitely think this place would do better as a secret bar for locals based on the location.

Yelp
I havent been here in ages and my last memory of being here was a dark place and okay food. I was pleasantly surprised when I went for dinner this past weekend Nice bread, wine and server. The ricotta brodo was delicious, as the butternut ravioli, brussel sprouts. My squid ink pasta was a bit on the bland side ( more spice and salt needed). The desserts were good ! Hazelnut torte mild compared to overly sweet toffee pudding. Bathroom a bit on the gross side , needs some maintenance crew to clean it up and spruce it up Definitely need to come back since its in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Hmmm the menu is completely different. I recall fine dining not pizza. But ok. The service was slow. The food was ok. The salads were good. Arugula salad Beet salad Sides Mushrooms- ok Asparagus- good Entree Trout that looks like salmon but has less flavor and higher in mercury than salmon.

Dwight S.

Yelp
Ordered dessert for takeout here. Showed up on time within working hours. No one was around. No lights on. No one answered the phone. No explanation as to why my money would be taken like that. Unreal. Welcome to Floataway Cafe, where your money will float away with no food to show for it.

Yelp
I had looked at this place in the past but had always been too late to score a reservation. We decided to attend a concert at Emory University on a Saturday evening and I checked relatively early in the day on Saturday. Surprisingly, they had reservations available, so I booked a table at 6:00 p.m. (the 5:30 opening slots were gone). We arrived about 15 minutes early. The restaurant is located on a side road near Sage Hill plaza, but across Briarcliff. I had passed the entrance to the road many times heading towards Virginia Highland, but had never been down it before. It has mix of shops and light industrial / warehouse type businesses. We located the set of buildings with the restaurant's address and saw a sign. You park out front in a large lot and then walk back into the complex in a sort of breezeway. The restaurant is at the back and faces a creek that runs along the rear. We were seated promptly. It seemed odd that, though the early reservations had been taken, there were only one or two tables occupied. While we dined, the place started to fill up but there were still tables available as we left. So if you just stop by, even without a reservation, maybe you can get a table...? Our server was good and checked back semi-regularly without being intrusive. The menu had a decent variety with several options I'd like to have tried. I went with a pasta dish that was pretty good. My wife went with a chicken or fish dish; I can't recall. We split a salad which was fresh with interesting ingredients. Their complimentary bread was also tasty. We did not get dessert. Prices were in line with upscale dining in-town. The restrooms were a bit of an oddity. You had to exit the opposite side of the restaurant from where you'd entered, walk across and up another breezeway, and enter the next building to access them. It wasn't a major inconvenience, but if it were raining heavily, it could be a problem. I'd consider dining here again.

Yelp
Terrible management - Lets start with that. We ordered a modified pizza (brussels sprouts pizza) with no bacon ( few of us were veggie) ! While the chef accommodated for 'removing' the bacon, didnt compensate for the sodium or fat. The pizza came dry - bland and no taste. Had barely any taste to it. We send it back and move on with other - well prep'd entree's. The waiter insists that manager made him add the pizza back to the check. Disgruntled employee manager seems to have her day. We take it up - mind u, its now a matter of principle.. she doesnt get it & we had to escalate. While the pizza gets comped, the experience is ruined. DID NOT expect this from star provisions or bacchanallia in training. Waiter was ok,, left the bottle of wine to pour itself.. So thank you for that as well. Will I come back.. hmmm wdyt ??

Yelp
We went for dinner and the tables were a bit closer than I'd like for COVID times, but the romantic/ classy ambiance and the service were great. We ordered a variety for dinner including the burrata and eggplant for appetizers (not pictured) and the pictured entrées. Although the entrées were phenomenal, the appetizers were not our favorites. The burrata only had a small piece of cheese, and the eggplant was a bit bland. The presentation of everything was spectacular, however.

Jake B.

Yelp
We had 3 courses each shared the burrata and the crab cake. Hands down one of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Entrees were gnocchi and flank steak. The steak was seasoned perfectly, the gnocchi needed a touch more sauce but we asked for it and were given it! We shared a bottle of wine that was only 30, and really amazing for that price. For dessert we had an apple pie with gelato super nostalgic dessert. Rustic and beautiful our server was an older tall gentlemen him and all of the staff were amazing. Overall we had an amazing experience I would not only recommend it to others I personally can't wait to come back. It's amazing when front and back of the house come together perfectly to make such amazing nights for their guest!

Yelp
Went with friends for our first time out to dinner since Covid. We were sat in a room for ourselves which was great. Our server was efficient but lacked personality which put a damper on our mood. I get excited when going to a restaurant and explore my menu options a head of time. For a week I was excited to order the Wood Roasted Fish which I was told was sold out. Went with the flank steak which was good but still disappointed.

Yelp
I've been here several times, and the food has been on point each meal. Most recently had the hangar steak, which came out with a great crust and cooked medium-rare just as I'd ordered. While not cheap, Floataway certainly doesn't need to break your bank. Although not terrible, I have noticed the standard of service has somewhat declined over the past couple years. Difficult to get waiter's attention at times, late on serving dinner rolls, and horrible at keeping water glass filled. This is where my one-star deduction originates. Parking is plentiful, free, and easy (insert your mom joke here).

Terri J.

Yelp
We were charged $4.00 for ice for 2 $14.00 drinks. We have loved this restaurant for years. This is unacceptable. The food was fabulous as usual. I hope they can rethink this service charge.

Yelp
This was a place that we kept thinking we needed to go try & finally made it over there. Overall, it was just "ok". We agree with another comment that the seating was a bit close for COVID times. There were 3 tables seated in one of the smaller "rooms" they have set up....especially odd when I saw plenty of other open seating. The food was good with a few great things. Burrata was good, but the tomatoes served with it had nothing done to them. A sprinkling of crunchy salt would have worked wonders. The octopus was outstanding - very tender & full of flavor. The watermelon salad was watermelon with the big huge seeds in it & pretty flavorless/pale pink color. There was no mint to be found on the salad and it was described as having mint. The gnocchi with arugula pesto was lovely but did not see any pesto to speak of on it...more of a hint of it. The warm sticky toffee dessert was great around the edges b/c it was warm. But the entire thing was barely lukewarm. I'll say they do a generous pour for wine & the cocktails were great. The room-temperature water was not appealing at all, why is ice challenging? I saw another reviewer saying they charged $4 for ice? Whaaat? Give me some ice! Service was not great, but trying not to knock anyone with regard to service these days since we know there is such a shortage of help. Glad we tried it, but don't think I'd go back.

Yelp
I've tried ordering from this restaurant 5 times on Uber eats. Every single time the order is cancelled 30-45 minutes later. I order on Uber eats a lot, and I've never had more than one cancellation at any other restaurant. The menu sounds great, but I'm giving up on it.

Yelp
What a wonderful gem in Atlanta. Had a delicious dinner with friends. Food, service and atmosphere were excellent.

Yelp
I went a year ago with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day--I meant to review then, but it slipped my mind. Then I forgot the name of the restaurant! I was so distraught, because this was one of the most remarkable experiences I've ever had in Atlanta as far as dining goes. From atmosphere to service to the food--it was just such a complete experience. Now that I've rediscovered it, I can't wait to go back! I don't remember exactly what we got the first time we went, but I do remember that potatoes and a whole fish were involved and oh my goodness, I drool. It was so flavorful and delicious, and our waiter was so helpful when assisting us in choosing dishes. I'll definitely update with more specifics the next time I go!

Vy D.

Yelp
Dined here because it was recommended on several lists of hot restaurants in Atlanta and out of curiosity. Pro: quiet, romantic place (good for small parties and date nights); great food, unique decor (the place used to be a train station I believe so the layout is different and interesting but they use muted colors so it's very easy on your eyes); seasonal menu so they're always offering something different (this could also be a con if you dine here for something specific on the menu) Cons: a little difficult to find (the parking lot is big but the restaurant is in the back and the entrance isn't all that clearly marked), prices are a bit high (our bill was about $110 for 2), the food took a while to come out despite it not being excessively busy. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. We had the octopus and crab fritter (both $15) for starters. I would only recommend the crab fritter as the octopus tasted very average to us. For the entrees, we had the lamb shank (highly recommended) and the pasta with squid ink sauce (so-so). For dessert, we ordered the budino with rosemary cookie, very highly recommended as it was very unique to us and something we never tasted before. Personally, I enjoyed the decor because of the upscale, industrial feel of the place. While walking to the bathroom, you go in the back and you can literally visualize the old train station that existed before so there's a huge sense of history throughout.

Jay S.

Yelp
A true hidden treasure-plan to return soon Food:5/5 Four different entrees and everyone was pleased. Chicken was excellent. Salmon was great. Hangar steak was tender and tasty. The crab cake had lots of tasty crab, not filler. Bread was fresh and crusty...yum. Wine list is adequate and is reasonable Location: 3/5 in a nice neighborhood. Hard to find because you will think your GPS took you to the wrong place. It really is in the industrial-looking building with the corrugated aluminum. Keep going-the inside is nice. Lots of parking. Facility: 4:5 Clean and modern and comfortable. Some outdoor seating and two large areas inside. Not crowded. Quiet enough for conversations. Service: 5:5 Our server, Mac, was excellent--pleasant/attentive/efficient/knew the menu well (which is important because it changes) Glad we tried this gem. We will be back when we are in Atlanta!

Jane S.

Yelp
What a nice surprise in a warehouse location! We had a lovely time with a quiet table by a big picture window overlooking Zonolite park. My husband loved the smoked trout toast, grilled octopus and pizza. My crab fritters and lamb were excellent. Very cool, modern setting. We have lived nearby for years and so happy we finally found this wonderful restaurant for special occasions (pricey!) I should have told the server it was our 44th anniversary!

Yelp
This was a major surprise--given the pedigree of the owners and the reputation of the restaurant overall. My most recent visit was a swing and a miss in many ways. We were there to celebrate my friends birthday, and we were given a relatively comfy back room, although we had to share it with another party of some size. The main point I want to make with this review: the service was terrible. Slow, confused, dispassionate and disconnected. If you're going to plate food at this level, and put on the air of a high-level eatery, the service has got to match that--or the whole thing is off. And it was, in a word, very off. On the whole, though, the food lacked flavor; another co-diner and I agreed that everything from start to finish could have used a better helping of finishing salt. My main entree was trout served with an odd cole slaw underneath, with nothing else on the plate. (It looked very lonely without something complementing it.) The fish was tender enough, but for $20 I'd expect a better presentation with more accouterment than what I was given. I'll try to post a pic of it to give a sense of what I mean. Bacchanalia is my favorite restaurant in the city and always has been, so sharing ownership should mean something in this establishment. Again, big disappointment. Hoping to have a better experience next time.

Taylor G.

Yelp
Third time here but it's been over 8 years since my last visit (moved out of Atlanta for that time). Food was very good, but we experienced very haphazard service. Servers were polite but everything took a long time (initial drinks 15+ min), extra entrees came out, no one got the right entree, etc. Party of 7 by the way. I think Floataway is very reasonably priced for how good the food is, so in my mind poor service can only bring it down so far... but this was some of the worst service I have experienced at a restaurant of this caliber. They were nice, just got things wrong a lot.

Kathryn K.

Yelp
I was recently lucky enough to dine at Floataway. Let me just say, it was one of the loveliest meals I have had in a long time. Point of reference; if you have ever been to Charleston, SC, you will walk into Floataway and feel like you just saved yourself a 6 hour drive. It is a bit of mystery trying to find the front door. It is in one of those warehouse areas where everything looks the same and the words are engraved into hard to read signs. when you are looking, just hear my voice like yoda saying, "Go all the way back!" Once you are inside, you will suddenly feel like you have "arrived". It's very peaceful and chic. I am a sucker for places with great furniture and this place was designed by someone with a definite sense of style. Think spa resort, think shabby chic, think I need to request banquette seating. ORDER: 1) Kumamoto oysters: close your eyes as your slurp these from the shell. the taste in your mouth is ocean... the cleanest, freshest, oceanest of ocean flavors. The gentle texture of the oyster bestows a sensual and pleasing feeling that like so many things... is only too fleeting. Now you know why oysters are aphrodisiacs. 2) Caserrece w/ Veal meatballs; beautiful plate. the pasta was obviously handmade and fresh from the kitchen of some rubenesque "Mama" in the back with a white dusty apron. 3) Vegetable plate: semolina gnocci, spicy eggplant caponata, charred corn. Being a non-meat-eater, I thoroughly enjoyed the gnocci, eggplant, and mussels as my entree course. The vegetable offerings were too delicious and interesting to not try. The gnocci was soooo delicious. Like biting into baby's bottom each time. I do have my suspicions the sauce had meaty bits, but oh well. As I say, once you've bitten into someone's bottom, there's no turning back ;) 4) Gulf Blue Crab Fritter; perfect portion. When i inserted my fork, big flakes of crab meat fell from the fritter. I love knowing they use high quality ingredients. the tomato jam provided the perfect amount of sweetness and acid to create the perfect bite. 5) Bangs Island Mussels: If you know me, you know... I always order mussels if they are available... I don't care how you spell the month. The mussels arrived in a red sauce perfect for dipping the charred garlic bread. delicious. 6) Palate cleanser of 3 sorbets 7) warm Toffee pudding We ordered the calamari also, but due to a mix up in the kitchen did not receive. The restaurant was very apologetic and brought out the sorbets as an apology. We did not leave unsatisfied. Floataway is a perfect place to visit to get the Bacchanalia level quality in food and flavor without having to save enough money or wait for an "occasion". Floataway is a great way to getaway. You can dress up, but you can also go casual.

Anna F.

Yelp
Parking/locating the restaurant is difficult but doable if you are paying attention to signage. We expected to get lost but a little common sense & we found the main entrance in a cinch! Park where it says FLOATAWAY, then go to the main "hall" where all of the shops/restos are, then follow the hallway down to a lighted patio area on the end. Entrance is on the left. We did not have a reservation and this did not stop us from getting seated immediately. This restaurant is great for dates because of its private seating and menu. The decor of the restaurant is marvelous but I wouldn't expect anything less from AQ. The MENU - was hard not to order everything in sight. We did not get a dish we didn't like. Timing was great, service was excellent, ambience was fantastic for an intimate date setting. I've seen some reviews about poor service - that was not the case here! Our waiter was extremely attentive. Always checked in on us when new dishes came out, gave fantastic recommendations, and you could tell that he loved his job. Excited to return in the near future!

Yelp
Wonderful food and service! So glad we picked this for our first "dining in" experience in a king time. Great outside seating but we chose to eat inside and no issues with being close to people. Our waiter was awesome and the chef sent us home with dessert as we were celebrating a birthday. Such a great environment, great food and overall so well done

Poupie B.

Yelp
A hidden gem!!! I wanted to take away a star b/c it is really hard to find this restaurant once you park and it is raining and you are walking down a walkway that seem to be deserted in the dark. But all that is forgotten once you do find it and step inside. Very welcoming ambiance. Great bar to the left of entrance where you can enjoy a cocktail while waiting to be sitted. Great place for intimate date night or hang out with friends. I do feel as though the chair arrangement is too close together. I could hear the conversations going on at the table next to us and I bet they could hear ours. Lol Loved dinner & desert. Highly recommend!

Brad S.

Yelp
My wife took me here last night for my birthday. We had heard great things for years but hadn't been. She knows i love cocktails so we ordered two when we sat down. I can't tell you how they were because they never came. We waited. Then we ordered our entrees. The server Amanda let us know the drinks were coming. I went to use the restroom. After 25 minutes our food started to come. I asked the server if the cocktails were still coming, expecting her to say, "I'm so sorry. They're coming and they're on the house." But she didn't say that. She didn't offer to get us wine or anything else to go with our now-arrived food. So i asked her to cancel them if they hadn't started to make them yet. 35 minutes after ordering they still hadn't started them. Amanda blamed the new bartender. It was not a busy night. We were very upset and ate our food with our tap water. Food was very good. We quickly asked for the check and the server brought it along with two glasses of champagne. She didn't say anything about why she was bringing us champagne. Once our card came back Amanda set two forks in front of us. They brought out a cupcake with a candle for my birthday. We had a sip of bubbly and bite of the cupcake and got the hell out of there. I've never asked to speak to a restaurant manager in my life but did last night as we left. She came up to us but didn't introduce herself so I don't know her name. She mentioned that Amanda had made a mistake (in contradiction of Amanda's contention that the new bartender was to blame). The mgr mentioned the complementary bubbly, but we were not told this courtesy was coming so we were just pissed as we ate. She apologized for not coming to our table, which was a nice apology but didn't help our situation. This whole thing was totally avoidable. We know mistakes happen. honest communication and making the mistake right are what well-run restaurants do. That's restaurant 101. Last night was terrible and we'll never be back.

D G.

Yelp
I have been here twice in August and had a wonderful experience. They have a lot of outdoor tables and the servers have been wonderful. I love the salami pizza and burrata and peach salad! Also the bartender (Conrad) makes the best cocktails. They also do take out!!!

Yelp
Given the occasion of the night, standard and reputation set by the Owners of this restaurant, I am extremely disappointed. I can't believe bacchanalia is associated with this restaurant. This was my second time dining here, and after the first time I thought this would be the right place for the right occasion. Boy, was I completely wrong. We were celebrating our one year anniversary. Although our comfy and secluded seating area helped the intimacy of a special night, the food was a major let down and the service was a train wreck. The minute we sat down, we were greeted by our waiter who informed us he actually wasn't our waiter but would start us off with our drinks. The night called for celebration, so we ordered 2 glasses of prosecco. After 15 minutes, the same gentleman came by and was shocked we didn't have our prosecco yet. Since we had waited so long, we ordered our appetizers with him. Another 10 minutes pass, and finally our prosecco shows up. (25 minutes in). Appetizers (Tuna tartare and burrata cheese) were somewhat prompt. The burrata was delicious. Tuna was bland. No fault to them, just my own disappointment was that the lamb shank was no longer on the menu, although their website says it's on the menu. Halfway through our apps, another waitress comes into the fold, introduces herself and takes our dinner order. We ordered hanger steak and risotto which took about 40-45 minutes. The service staff came by once between dinner order placed and dinner order served to clear our apps, plates and replenish silverware (20 minutes before the food came). Dinner was alright, steak was cooked as requested (medium), pomme frites took a salt bath, risotto very very (very) bland. The grand finale, after little to no service, the best gesture (and tip saver) was a dry cupcake for our anniversary. The idea was there, very thoughtful but I wouldn't go back after being unimpressed by the food and feeling lost with little to no service.

Yelp
Five Star food. One Star service. Average = 3. Truly exceptional food: octopus app, calimari app, cheese assortment: Great. Meatballs, spaghetti with clams, etc. Frank Family Cab: wonderful. BUT. My 10-year old granddaughter knows more about service hospitality than we experienced tonight. So sad.

Yelp
This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere and tucked away. The restaurant is very cute and I like how each table was private and closed off with partitions. We had six people in our group and the table was roomy and comfortable. The service was good, and the menu has quite a few options. The taste of the food was great, but everyone agreed the temperature could have been hotter. We were too hungry to send it back, but the food was just warm. Overall, I enjoyed it!

Yelp
Maybe we had too high of expectations for a restaurant affiliated with Bacchanalia, which we absolutely love, and maybe we are just spoiled by the amazing food scene in Atlanta, but what a disappointment. The food was good but not great, and our waiter David was inattentive and we never saw him from the time we ordered to the time we paid the check which was delivered without even asking about our meal. This was a management fail and we won't be back. We are sensitive to the strains of running a restaurant during this challenging time but there are too many wonderful culinary options getting it right and seem to care about our experience.

Yelp
I came here with my girlfriend to celebrate an anniversary and the service was incredible. They were attentive, friendly, and very accommodating to the occasion. The food was delicious and fun, and the quaint tucked-away atmosphere of the bar was very romantic. I would recommend to anyone for a date night or a special occasion.

Yelp
Such a cool, unique place. It's tucked away, but not too difficult to find. The ambiance is great, and the food and drink are awesome as well. I will be back.

Yelp
I chose Floataway Cafe for a very special date and was let down. The restaurant seemed to have the right idea but erred in the execution. First, cocktails (including my date's old fashioned) were served in champagne glasses. To start, I ordered the watermelon salad with no cheese, and my date ordered the octopus. The octopus tasted good but was chewy. The kitchen left not only the cheese (as requested) off my watermelon salad but also the mint. So, the salad consisted of anemic watermelon, some cucumber chunks, and olive oil. At least 20 minutes after we ordered entrees, our server informed us that the dish I ordered wasn't available - we'd been told another was unavailable as soon as we sat down, and with a rather short list of entrees other than pizza, there was no other entree I actually wanted. At that point, we would have left, but the restaurant is so off the beaten path that we were stuck. I settled on the steak, which I ordered medium rare, and crispy potatoes. The steak was flavorful but terribly undercooked. The over-salted potatoes were sitting in a pool of grease that covered the entire bottom of my plate. Overall, the service was unpleasant (including a staff member yelling in conversation with another patron), the food was disappointing, and I was frankly embarrassed to have chosen this restaurant for my date.

Yelp
I work on the same street as this restaurant and had been meaning to try it for almost a year. I'm a fan of Star Provisions and Bacchanalia, so I did have some expectations. Unfortunately, this place leaves MUCH to be desired. Know that it's a little hard to find the entrance as it's tucked back into an converted industrial office building. We arrived early in the evening, before the restaurant was busy, but still received very slow service. We had a reservation for 2 and they tried to place us next to a window, which was very cold. The hostess looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked if we could sit farther from the window. While it was very hard to order more drinks or food items, the bus person was constantly trying to take our plates long before we were finished. I really hate having to stop my conversation to say "no, I'm not done with that" just as much as I hate feeling rushed. The Gulf Blue Crab fritter was the best thing we had, which is saying something because it is very hard to mess up fried crab. The Piccolo Fritto contained more vegetables than squid (there might have been 2 pieces) and while tasty, it was nothing special. Again, it's hard to mess up fried food. The pate was uninspired and tasteless. The bread served very cold. Our other dishes were unremarkable. Basically, nothing was interesting enough for the prices they charged. Floataway doesn't hold a candle to their sister restaurants. All this makes me sad because I literally pass this place on a daily basis.

Yelp
Overall: Definitely not a 'cafe,' more of a fine dining, hip-chic experience. From the excellent service from every waitress I'd come in contact with, the excellent (and I mean EXCELLENT) food, and wine selection, I'd come here a million times over, if it wasn't so pricey (I'll have to keep this one on the 'special occasions' list, most of the plates average about $22-$26) and a tad out of the way. -- Note: this place is seriously tucked away, directly off Briarcliff Road. Once you turn on Zonolite, you'll be tempted to turn into one of the first industrial parks on your left. Don't. Keep heading back, until you see the blue signs that say "Floataway Cafe." Took my mom here for her birthday and let me tell you, it was such a great choice. I literally couldn't find a thing wrong with my experience, it was excellent. -- I tasted a little from everyone's plate, so, I can speak about a few menu items: Milled Apple Cider: warm and made with a little bourbon, this is super comfort-foody and great for holiday and cold-weather pre-meal drinking. Grilled Sourdough: this is incredible. I know what you're thinking: its only grilled bread, how amazing can it be? Think homemade sourdough grilled over a wood fire, with seasoned olive oil. You can TASTE the delicious char on the bread. If you're a bread lover, definitely try this. Porkchops - Probably the best pork chop I've ever had, and I've had lots of pork chops. My mom agreed as she kept coming over to my plate for another taste. There was some kind of glaze and/or chutney that they served and it was absolutely incredible. Perfectly cooked, thick-cut. Rainbow Trout - The sig substituted pomme frittes for the baby turnips, but kept the mustard greens, and literally the whole thing was so tasty, so well-seasoned. Roast Chicken - White meat, but so incredibly juicy, it was almost unreal. I couldn't identify the seasoning they used (which was surprising for me, cuz, I know my flavors) but it was amazing. We finished the night off with aforementioned Sourdough Bread Pudding that came with a little bit of vanilla ice cream and was covered in this insane caramel sauce. Foodgasm at its finest. The atmosphere was so cute and so quaint, but super modern and industrial-chic. Loved every bit of it. Overall, I loved this place, all parties who came with me, including my mom, loved this place, and I wholeheartedly recommend this spot for dates, quiet family dinners, etc.

Yelp
This place is a hidden jewel! Excellent food, great drinks, and friendly staff makes this a favorite spot to return when I visit Atlanta again! Also, they are very mindful of covid precautions. I was very impressed by their delivery of food orders to customers on site as they used metal plate covers when bringing food from the kitchen to the table!! We felt confident that everyone on staff is conscientious about practicing safety and social distancing. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Relaxing Dinner on a Saturday Night We hadn't been to Floataway in a long time; but a great Groupon deal encouraged us to give it another try. We were not disappointed. First of all the Groupon deal was an excellent one - one appetizer, two entrees , two glasses of wine, and a desert to share. We picked the crab fritter as an appetizer and , boy oh boy, was it good. The last time we had such good crab was in Baltimore - and you know that was good. The fritter was bursting with fresh, tasty, moist crabmeat with a light, crispy coating. Too good to share! We went with red snapper and a vegetable plate for entrees- and we shared once again. The red snapper was very fresh - and lightly cooked to perfection. Vegetables included spinach, turnips, collards, and roasted asparagus. The asparagus was large, but not the least bit tough. The turnips were the best that I have ever had, hands down. Dessert was a moist warm toffee cake, just the right touch for the end of the meal. Our server told us that people drive miles to eat that cake. I can believe it. I have seen mention of slow service another reviews; but ours was anything but slow. Our server was always there at the right time. She was not obtrusive and was always helpful. The environment is attractive and cozy without being too invasive. We had a lovely view of a garden and creek area right outside our table. I would say every aspect of this dining experience was perfect.

Yelp
I enjoy eating here when attending conferences nearby. The food is always quite good, however, the service is easily overwhelmed when there is a rush of people. Which, there always is when I am here because the attendees descend in numbers. :) Really enjoy the veggie sides! Plenty of portions prepared in individual skillet pans. Done to perfection. Try the jalapeño peppers... not too spicy but bursting with flavor! The salmon was delicious!! Tender, light and satisfying without being fishy. ;-)

Yelp
I first have to correct/comment on the price range that is listed here on Yelp. It is definitely NOT $$$. It's more like $$. Everything on the menu is less than $30. When you put $$$ that usually means that it's over $30 per dish, so I hope that this does not prevent you from trying this place out. My friend ordered the trout and I ordered the loup de mer! The trout was amazing because they left the skin on it and I LOVE the skin on fish and it's healthy for you! The loup de mer was good but it was a little overcooked. The thing I liked about it is that they left the head on it and it's my favorite part of the fish. If it was not so well cooked, I think I would've loved it! But I highly recommend the trout if you come! We also ordered bread pudding and an assortment of sorbets for dessert. The bread pudding is really good! Granted, I've only had it twice in my life, but the first time I ever had it was extremely horrible and tasted like stale bread, so maybe I'm not the best judge of bread pudding. If you get the sorbets, make sure you get the dark chocolate because it was the best of the three! Also, the venue is very unique. The outside looks like a large warehouse but the inside is very different and peaceful. The walkway up to their restaurant is very pretty and decorated with Christmas lights on their bushes. Loved it!

Yelp
I save 5 stars for places like these. If I ever owned a restaurant, I'd want it to be just like this. So cute, with a factory/industrial setting and great music. I'm kind of sad I forgot to ask them if it was a station/mix/cd. I'd love to recreate it on Pandora or something. It's the type of place that works for dates, birthday dinners, or just catching up with a small group of friends. I wasn't even bothered by how in the middle of who knows where this place was, because it created a great backdrop of foliage, and opportunities for decorations with white lights that could be seen through the windows. The staff was low key, with just jeans and aprons. But they were more professional and courteous than some servers I've met in places that cost double what their menu does. And they were super helpful, explaining the selections I wasn't familiar with and making recommendations. The food was A-MAZ-ING! I'm being completely honest when I say every bite of food I tried (from all 3 plates in my company, in addition to my own) tasted like bliss on my tongue, resulting in a satisfied food coma shortly afterward. I don't think I've ever had a better pork chop, or a rainbow trout. And believe it or not, I could not get enough of those brazed greens (I think that's what they were called; not the mustards). I'm telling this story all backwards... Really inexpensive, but super delicious - you have to have the sourdough bread grilled to start. It's made on a wood fire grill and the way it was oiled/seasoned bfore it was cooked made you want to keep eating just to figure out what you were tasting. So smokey and delicious. Also, their cider drink (you know I never remember names...) left me feeling like it was officially fall. Mmmm. Finally, desert. We went for a birthday and the brought out a chocolate cupcake with a candle. It tasted like brownie and cake (of course I had a bite, even though it wasn't my birthday). I also had some of the bread pudding. My advice: make sure you have some caramel on every bite. It's criminal not to. AND I didn't even need a Scoutmob, Living Social, or Groupon deal to eat here! That's really saying something.

Yelp
I had my birthday party there. We had our own private area and the services are really great. I enjoy the food there. It is a nice place that I would take a date to. It is a good impression for a first date. The area is a little bit out of the blue so it was hard to me to find the location at first. I like the way they make their cocktails and drinks there. Though, I'm not a big fan of the fig pizza. It has this acquired taste that I don't like, it also has a lingered smell afterwards in your mouth. I also am not a fan of the ink squid/octopus pasta. The pasta has a very hard texture that it is very interesting. Other than that, I would not mind coming back.

Yelp
Eatlanta Staycation Restaurant #5: Floataway cafe blue crab fritter (4 stars) - With remoulade and i think pickled red onions. Good chunky crab fritter/cake, chunky meat not chunky breading. The remoulade was slightly tangy and super yummy. Ahi tuna conserva bruschetta (2 stars) - came with shaved red onion, caper aioli. We thought this was a ahi tuna tartar bruschetta, so maybe it's my fault that I didn't like the dish... maybe it was Floataway's. ;) It was basically a really expensive chunky, mayo-y, tuna salad on toasted bread. Meh. Charred baby octopus (3 stars) - fingerling potatoes, romesco, castelvetrano olives, toasted almond. The octopus at Rathbun's was so good that it made this octopus not my favorite. The rest of the group liked it though, so majority wins and I'm giving it 3 stars. Pizza (3 stars) - Spicy Italian sausage, chorizo, prosciutto, house cured bacon, San marzano tomato. Very meaty. Exactly how my husband likes it. I only ate a few bites because I knew we were heading to Iberian Pig after this. =) I'm glad I saved my stomach... Iberian Pig review or update to come. Fries - they were so good! There wasn't anything super special about them, but I couldn't stop eating them! Scratch that, we ALL couldn't stop eating them. Get them, trust me. Now for my FAVORITE - Espresso pot de creme with nutmeg, cocoa nibs, and 2 orange biscotti. OH. MY. GOODNESS. This was heaven in my mouth! I spied this on the menu as soon as I sat down and was looking forward to it the entire meal! It did not disappoint. The smooth creamy pot de creme with crunchy bits of cocoa nibs was just perfect. *drool. I need to go back and get more...

Yelp
FOOD:: I came to Floataway Café with a girlfriend for a night of wine and chit chats. Nothing either of us ordered really stood out to me. For appetizer, we ordered a large plate of calamari to share between two people. The portion was GINORMOUS and we couldn't even finish. I ended up bringing more than half of it home. The taste, like I said, didn't stand out to me. It was just regular-ol-calamari and it could've use an extra pinch of flavor. We then ordered the burrata, and this may be my favorite dish of all. The grilled sourdough bread was crunchy and was the perfect match for the melt-in-your-mouth burrata. I'm not one for heavy cheeses, and that's why burratas are the best for me. For my entrée, I ordered a plate of pasta because pastas are to die for! I got the black fettucine pasta, served with squid, clam, and shrimp. My dish was tasty, but overall a plain Jane--there just wasn't enough punch! The sauce tasted tomato-y and that was basically it. Again, my entrée was good, just didn't have the Wow factor. What did have a wow-factor was the desert. I got the warm toffee pudding and my friend the hazelnut pots de crème (at least that's what I think she got). My toffee pudding was splendid! It was so creamy and it just melted in my mouth. It wasn't too sweet; the mix of vanilla gelato with caramel was just right. SERVICE:: I came to Floataway Café on a weeknight and it wasn't very busy at all. We were one of four tables, I believe. Our waitress was kind and attentive. Answered all of our questions and gave recommendations. Nice! ATMOSPHERE&LOCATION:: Located very close to Two Urban Licks. One thing that I loved about Floataway Café is the restaurant's ambience! Star Provisions really knows a thing or two about décor. The whole restaurant has a blue to teal color scheme. It was very calming and I absolutely adored it! Free parking and there's a lot of parking. The restaurant itself can be a little hard to find.

Yelp
Delish, lovely, quiet place. I probably should have put quiet first. You can actually talk (not scream) to those at your table. What a pleasure in today's ATL restaurant scene. Fish was OK and they don't fillet it for you so that was a bit of a pain and you had to work for your meal. It was yummy though. Beets and goat cheese starter was good. My friend had the blackberry dessert and that looked like the winner. Atmosphere is terrific and its a must if you are looking for a nice, quiet, good service, good food place.

Yelp
Couldn't get in Bacchanalia tonight so felt that Floataway would be a nice way to impress friends who showed up for a sudden visit to Atlanta. The first hour was embarrassingly bad. It became laughable for my guests at how bad the service was, but thankfully they were good sports about it. It was like the restaurant was short staffed on the busiest night of the year, but they had plenty of staff and it didn't seem that busy. My friends had reviewed the menu online and were disappointed that their advance selections were not on the actual menu, but were understanding that the menu changes daily. But then the first two of our wine selections were also out of stock, followed by one of my friend's attempt at ordering a second Stella Artois. But that was not in the works either because they ran out. I seriously thought the restaurant was closing and just trying to run out their inventory. The evening was recovered a bit with nice entrees and the waitress caught on we were annoyed at the slow service when we ordered the next beer while still having a full glass of the previous one. She started showing up a bit more frequently, but I'm not sure that was any more than just we were the last guests in there (8:15 reservation and we closed the place down?) I doubt I'll give them another chance. It's better to plan ahead and get in Bacc. I hope it was a fluke, but I'll leave it to others to give this place another try. Would've been 2 stars except the dinner entrees were ok and the flourless choc cake was great.

Yelp
Tonight after the completion of an event, we decided to take our special guest to Floataway Cafe. We had reservations for 9 in the private dining room. Upon arrival, we were quickly greeted by our waiter who was an excellent balance to the evening. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and made very great recommendations throughout the evening. We started off with a few appetizers (small plates) which we shared amongst the table. My favorite appetizer was the octopus. We followed the appetizers with entrées (big plates), I had the whole Sea Bass which was cooked to perfection. We concluded the evening with dessert in which I could not brace myself from indulging in the flourless chocolate cake.

Yelp
Great food but service is an issue. 4 top with 2 couples, waitress delivered a single bill without a word, we asked they split it for us and after an eye roll and a "I need to talk to my manager" we received a split bill. Really? Also, we ordered a pretty high dollar bottle of wine and it was delivered with some pretty low end glass. We just expect more. Still - food is excellent but service is poor. Go, but expect that.

Yelp
I went to Floataway Cafe for my birthday meal with my girlfriend. The first thing one will notice entering the restaurant is that it has a modern, industrial look, which most likely is a result of the warehouse location that the restaurant resides. It does feel quite intimate as well, not necessarily in the romantic sense, but a place one might go out for a nice meal with a close friend or a colleague. As with many Star Provision Restaurants, the service consists of several waiters/waitresses ensuring you have plenty of opportunities to order drinks and enjoy free bread. For the appetizer we ordered mussels, where were ordered with a tomato based sauce. The mussels themselves were pretty well cooked, but the bread to mussels ratio was a bit off, they gave four pieces of toasted bread, a lot considering we also had bread at our table. For the main meal I had veal meatballs while my girlfriend had ahi tuna. The veal meatballs were very soft and tender, while the pasta itself was cooked al-dente, with the tomato sauce and cheese .complementing it very well. The Ahi Tuna was not as good, it tasted a little bland with the sauce not adding too much to it. Overall the experience was a positive one, although I would say that you might need to load up on the bread to feel full afterwards.

Yelp
Surprising, lovely, hidden place in an industrial center. Octopus cooked perfectly though it was a small portion. Ricotta appetizer was good. Margarita pizza delicious. Great wine list and cocktails. I'll return!
