The 10 Best Chino Latino Restaurants In NYC

"On any given night of the week, you’ll see a nutcracker with a cocktail umbrella in the hands of almost every person here. This is the original location of Flor De Mayo, and you could probably walk into this Upper West Side spot with 11 of your closest friends and get a table, or at the very least not feel like a complete loser for entertaining the thought of having a fun, last-minute group dinner. You can all just order nutcrackers and pollo a la brasa, which will make splitting the check a breeze." - willa moore

5 NYC Restaurants to Try This Weekend - Eater NY

"Any dish that adds fries to the mix is a dish for me. Lomo saltado is a highly underrated take on steak frites, in my opinion, that mixes thinly sliced steak, onions, tomatoes, french fries, soy sauce, and vinegar all in one. The Peruvian dish is full of flavor and in top form at Flor de Mayo on the Upper West Side. The restaurant mashes up Peruvian and Chinese fare to great results in other dishes such as squid ink fried rice in a bustling and merry space." - Eater Staff

When I say the food hit the spot 😋. Soooooo freaking good! The portions are phenomenal, the flavors were to perfection! Our server was very professional and helpful. The drinks was amazing. This is an amazing place. I can't wait to revisit while visiting NYC again. This establishment is on the top of my list.

I have dined at this restaurant several times and it consistently delivers a great experience. The chicken was well prepared, the cilantro rice was fresh ( my favorite ❤️)and the shrimp in red sauce a dish we always enjoy was flavorful as always. The Nutcracker cocktail added a nice touch to the meal. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, and the service is always professional. It remains one of our go to restaurants. When know the food and drinks will always be on point🥰

Google
I had green rice with pollo sin hueso, tallarin verde with grilled chicken, green rice with lomo saltado, and pork fried rice with lomo saltado. I been here a few times. Its one of my favorite low key spot. I had super nut cracker (very strong). The owner and the staff over there are amazing and good people. Did i mention they are quick?

Google
this is my family’s go-to restaurant for good food and when we want to mix up just eating chinese food. their menu has a perfect blend of peruvian and chinese. there is also a great selection of drinks. we love the pina coladas. menu highlights: broiled pork chops (a must), chinese squid fried rice (delicious), garlic scallops (a new favorite), and green beans with pork sauce.

After spending the day at the Museum of Natural History, I stopped by Flor de Mayo for dinner and had a memorable meal. This Chinese Peruvian spot serves seriously flavorful dishes with generous portions. I had the rotisserie half chicken with the house special fried rice. The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy. The fried rice tasted just like authentic Young Chow fried rice you’d find at a great Chinese restaurant. It was savory, aromatic, and perfectly cooked. We also ordered the Lomo Saltado, which came with a generous portion of beef and was full of bold flavor. A side of soy sauce was available at the table in case you wanted to add more, but everything was already well seasoned. The only hiccup was at the end. We couldn’t find our server to ask for the check, so we asked another staff member. After waiting about five minutes, we had to flag down a third person before the check finally came. A small inconvenience but worth nothing. Overall, the food absolutely made up for the service delay. If you’re in the area, especially after a museum visit, this spot is definitely worth trying.

Google
A lot of people been telling me to try Flor De Mayo so I finally made my way here. This restaurant was definitely active. Groups and families were coming through. I ordered some of the popular dishes like the lomo Saltado and chicharrones de pollo con maduros. The lomo saltado was like steak and fries but better. Sauced all over. Plus you can’t go wrong with chicharron de pollo. Also I tried the yucca balls, salad, and flan. This spot is deff a hidden gem and their staple dishes were fire. If you drink get the super nutcracker. Be mindful it’s strong. They also have the spicy Peruvian sauce. Service was good. The food comes out pretty fast, hot and fresh.

Google
a life changing experience! The service was amazing as soon as I stepped in. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu which helped because there are a ton of options! - Enough options for anyone to find something you’ll like! Also, very good drinks. High recommended and I will bring my family with me!

Google
Laid back environment. Very slow service. We waited a while for drinks because the bar was backed up (1 bartender on a Saturday night). I got the bistec de palomilla and it was a little salty. The group I was with enjoyed their food. I’d return

Yelp
it was a hour wait was worth it but the food was immaculate be and my parents had a good time here they treated us with kindness and we love going here.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for dinner. We were given comfortable booth seating. The decor was simple and the place had a welcoming atmosphere. For my drink, I had the Morir Sonando, a sweet, frothy creation consisting of orange juice, milk, sugar, and crushed ice. This was citrusy and refreshing. I ordered the Lomo Saltado with fried egg on top, and a side of Special Fried Rice. At first the dish came without the egg, but that was quickly fixed. The Lomo Saltado was thick cut steak perfectly seared, mixed with onion, tomato, as well as nicely crisp French fries in a yummy savory sauce. The steak was tender and well seasoned, while the veggies had a satisfying crunch. Fried Rice was quite tasty, chock full of shrimp, pork, ham, bean sprouts, onion, and scallions. All the ingredients combined well together. Service was pretty good. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were decent. I would be open to returning in order to try Pork Chops with Tostones.

Yelp
Interesting twist on Asian/Peruvian food. I ordered the half rotisserie chicken with rice. Husband ordered the beef stir fry dish. The food was pretty salty and the chicken was ok. The vegetables seemed fine. The highlight was the plantain but also very oily so if you're watching your cholesterol that might not be the dish to order. Overall, a friendly, family oriented neighborhood spot.

Yelp
I have only had Peruvian twice and hated it the first time. This place made up for what I had the first time. The service was so quick and efficient and everything was brought out rather quickly. I had the Lomo Saltado and it was amazing. They have a huge drink selection and I went for the Mai Tai, perhaps not the best pairing for my meal but the drink itself was so good. There is almost always a packed house for both lunch and dinner, but there are plenty of seats evenly spread out so you're not on top of anyone.

Yelp
Although the wait time took a while ~30 mins on a Sunday, the Lomo Saltado might have been the best one I've had. The green rice was also really good. Might not be the best service, but they've got some good food and great portions. It's a small intimate place with not much seating so it gets packed, but they don't take too long with bringing the food out.

Yelp
Discovered the Patacones which was a breadless chicken sandwich and it was so tasty. The tostones buns was ingenious and a nice touch. The chicken fried rice and it was flavorful; you could definitely see the fusion influence. They also knew how to make a good Shirley Temple that came with a little umbrella that now sits in my box of mementos.

Yelp
Amazing roasted chicken, beef lo mein. And the fried rice was perfect. I will be back again

Yelp
Great food, the service was great as well the only complaint is the rush for tables. They need to make the restaurant bigger.

Yelp
Coming here is a good cheap time! Good eats and quick nice service. A mixture of Spanish and Peruvian cuisine.

Yelp
Coworkers recommended ordering for lunch. The food was absolutely delicious. Note, the food is pricey. They offer lunch menu which is pretty cheap. Love the fact they offer Peruvian and Chinese food. The Peruvian food is superb.

Yelp
Came here after seeing a show for my cousins birthday. I tried some fried Chorizo Yuca balls, chicken a la carte, mofongo with pork, and ropa vieja. I saw everyone ordering nutcrackers to drink, so I had to try. It was good, reminded me of amaretto sour. The yuca balls had a nice crunch to it. It was soft and warm inside. The chicken was good, I just wish the mojito sauce was more garlicky. The mofongo would have been better if the pork was mixed in. The ropa vieja tasted too much like tomato sauce, I wasn't a fan.

Yelp
Good food, good time, great service. Seriously, everything was served with a smile. Servers were attentive and responsive with just the right balance of distance and watchful anticipation. They didn't hesitate to make menu suggestions or offer a useful opinion when asked. Drinks were a bit sweet for my taste but still delicious and pretty! Food was served in abundant portions with appealing presentation. Didn't have to wait long for it either. And everything was delicious. Highly recommend the cilantro rice. Yum. I got chuletas fritas, and my companians got the fish special--forgot what it's called--and the Peruvian neef stew. Everything was very good. We shared the flan for dessert. It was okay but we have a REALLY high bar for flan. Almost no place meets it for us. I will no doubt return to Flor de Mayo for some good eats!

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for nearly two decades now and it's just as good as it was back then. This place combines all that is great from the local Chinese and Peruvian spots and mashes it up in one place. There are still things that I have yet to try because I can't stop ordering the delicious lomo saltado and the can miss Peruvian style chicken. Also the baby shrimp fried rice was well executed. I really want to try the fried pork chop, the bbq ribs and the egg foo young someday. Also love that the food comes out quick even though service can be a bit slow flagging down a waiter to order. Also decent seating and overall esthetic of restaurant is fine. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Once again we went to this location of Flor De Mayo on Amsterdam Ave. It's a very busy location but again the food wasn't up to standard. The liver was good but it was shredded not whole like a liver steak should be. The sauce was a brown sauce that is really for Chinese dish & it had pieces of ginger in it which means that they used the sauce of a Chinese dish & didn't take the time to make a proper sauce for the liver. The rice came with the main entree but you had to pay additional for the beans which would typically be included with the rice. The picadillo ( stewed ground beef was just ok. The service was kind of rushed & they started clearing & cleaning our table before we even got up. The Flor De Mayo on Broadway is much better in regards to food & service but we had just come out of the Museum & it was walking distance. For awhile now this branch on Amsterdam Ave. hasn't been that great.

Yelp
This place remains unchanged after YEARS in business. It was not that crowded on a Friday night; numerous tables were available at 6:30. (They don't seem to have their outdoor seating set up now.) Food is consistently good! I've never not enjoyed the ropa vieja, my go-to dish. For $24 you get a huge dish of it, rice (I asked for the cilantro rice instead of yellow rice), and salad (shredded lettuce and tomato). The free basket of bread then came in handy; I used it to do in the sauce. Delicious! When leaving a waiter was telling the guests next to us about a version with green sauce; this may be a reason to come back sooner!

Yelp
Flor de Mayo, located on the Upper West Side, is a delicious Peruvian-Chinese fusion restaurant that provides a distinct and flavorful eating experience. The friendly, unassuming ambiance greets you as soon as you walk in, making it suitable for both casual dinners and memorable occasions. The menu is a superb fusion of traditional Peruvian dishes and Chinese influences, known as Chifa. One of the highlight meals is the Lomo Saltado, a flavorful stir-fried beef dish with onions, tomatoes, and French fries served with rice. This is one of my favorite dishes; the flavors are robust and well-balanced, providing a rich, comforting taste. Chifa fried rice is another must-try, with rich umami notes that complement any main entrée. For those looking for something lighter, the ceviche is refreshing and tangy, with the perfect combination of citrus and pepper. The shrimp ceviche is a delightful meal that wonderfully exemplifies Peruvian cuisine. The shrimp are soft and fresh, marinated in a zesty citrus sauce with the perfect amount of spice from jalapeño peppers. The addition of onions, cilantro, and a hint of garlic enhances the dish's richness, while the crispy side of toasted corn provides texture and a delicious crunch. The acidity of the citrus cuts through the richness of the shrimp, making each mouthful seem light and refreshing--ideal for a hot day or as an appetizer to a larger meal. It's a dish that exemplifies the restaurant's ability to combine vibrant, zesty flavors with fresh ingredients. I also enjoy cilantro rice. It includes a simple yet tasty side dish that complements the ceviche well. The rice is precisely cooked, fluffy, and imbued with the bright flavor of fresh cilantro. The gentle herbaceous flavors of cilantro lift the meal, adding fragrant depth without dominating the rice's light flavor. It's a hearty, well-seasoned addition that goes well with any of the main courses. The service at Flor de Mayo is attentive and friendly. The portions are generous, ensuring you'll leave satisfied without breaking the bank. The cocktails are also great, the sangría is a refreshing drink that elevates any meal. While the restaurant can get busy, especially on weekends, it's always worth the wait. Whether you're a fan of Peruvian food, Chinese cuisine, or just looking to try something new, Flor de Mayo offers an exciting culinary experience that's hard to beat on the Upper West Side. It's a hidden gem that you must visit! While the restaurant can get crowded, particularly on weekends, it is always worth the wait. Flor de Mayo provides an intriguing culinary experience that is difficult to surpass on the Upper West Side. It's a hidden jewel that you must see!

Yelp
It's always a treat when you visit a hometown staple and it's everything you need it to be. The space is quaint and the service is good, and prompt. So many options, but we always have our favorites that we gravitate to and when you're hungry......you just want the tried and true!

Yelp
This place always delivers, service is friendly, food is consistently good, price is reasonable. We had Pollo ala brasa ,chicharones & brocolli. They also give bread & butter for starters. Every thing is tasty & servings are large. Worth checking out.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food and service. .their red sangria is great! Visit their location in Washington Heights.
google avatar

Dennis G.

Yelp
Flor De Mayo is a great place if you enjoy Chino-Latino food. They feature Peruvian, Cuban and Chinese dishes. Service is polite and efficient. The space is comfortable and the prices reasonable. The place dates back to 1977 and it's a gem.

Yelp
Stopped in last night for a order of half chicken and chicken fried rice. Food was legit. I asked the guy at the bar for a charger, my phone was (singing) "low-low-low-low-low-low-low-low. " He charged it for me as i was waiting for my food.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
This Peruvian-Chinese restaurant is a great find. I started with the fried Spanish sausage, which was absolutely delicious. For my main dish, I went with the shrimp mofongo, and it didn't disappoint--served with large, juicy shrimp. I'd definitely come back to explore more of their extensive menu.

Anthony D.

Yelp
The waiter didn't allow me in the restaurant with my Service Dog. I had my service animal ID in hand but that wasn't accepted at Flor De Mayo. "The employee stated "yesterday the owner changed the rules and will no longer accept service animals in the restaurant."
google avatar

Gail B.

Yelp
This is my favorite Pollo a la Brasa restaurant in all of NY. The chicken is addictive because it is tasty and moist. It is slow roasted and tastes like it was marinated for hours. I wish that I could make chicken this well. I have been a customer of the Broadway location since the mid 1990s. The cuisine is Chinese-Cuban, and everything on their menu is scrumptious. Today, I ordered the Pollo a la Brasa with House Special Fried Rice. The meat and shrimp were so fresh. The rice was perfectly cooked and had a slightly nutty texture. I always make sure to order some fruit punch, but I have to tell them to lighten up on the syrup, or else the drink will be too sweet. The Pollo a la Brasa is no longer the bargain that it was 30 years ago when it was a mere $5. Now it is three times that. Service is quick, and the ambiance is hip. I make sure that I dine here at least once a year.
google avatar

Julia P.

Yelp
The ambiance and service were great. The food was good. We ordered the half a chicken with mix fried rice, pepper steak beef with white rice, and chicharron de pollo with plantain. The chicharron had an aftertaste maybe turmeric. The pepper steak had a nice rich sauce. The half a chicken had the right seasoning and was made just right. The fried mix rice was so flavorful. I also ordered the pina colada which wasn't all that. So watery and bland definitely disappointed since they are known for their drinks. Overall besides the drink it was worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
We live in PA but have family in New York and Flor De Mayo is a staple dinner spot for us every time we are here!!! The service is impeccable, the food is absolutely delicious (and that's an understatement!) and the atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and so warm. Make it a point to dine here when you come to New York... or even if you live there. You will NOT be disappointed!
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
Drinks were really good had the nutcracker. Food was ok. I had Ropa vieja (Cuban shredded steak w/ sauce & onions dish) ,arroz morro (meaning black rice, another Cuban dish that consists of black beans & rice cooked together), & plantano maduros(fried sweet plantains). It was ok had better being part Cuban. Waiter was attentive. The restaurant was pretty small but it did fit 19 ppl. I was w/. It was just tight.
google avatar

Xenia M.

Yelp
The service at Flor de Mayo is great, but the food fell short imo especially for the price I paid. I ordered the garlic shrimp and I received a bowl of shrimp swimming in crushed garlic. Not exactly what I expected for $28.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Great menu selection. Asked for their favorite n got the fried rice Chinese style. So good
google avatar

Yelp
Back again. Love the hot and sour soup and the egg foo young is the best anywhere!! Amazing! Always perfectly cooked and the taste is perfection. The service is always great. Today Carlos served and he couldn't be nicer and more professional. What a wonderful time !

Yelp
One of the first restaurants I came to when I visited NYC last year, and now that I live here it's become my go to when i just want some good food, with great flavor and a homemade feel to it. My go to is the Lomo Saltado with Chicken . I also always request extra onions and tomatoes, so good ! and I get the vegetable fried rice . Everything comes out piping hot and the service is always great here ! Also the homemade lemonade is so refreshing and not too tart but has a sweetness to it and not to mention it's a frozen drink . If you're looking for a great place to just eat some consistent good food, great hospitality and welcoming environment this is it !
google avatar

Diana J.

Yelp
Fantastic service. Fantastic food. Definitely a must try. I'd get there early since there's no reservations. Food comes out decently fast.
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
This place was so much fun. I went with a friend, and we made dinner plans last minute so we didn't have a reservation, but they were able to seat us right away. The tables are tight and very squished together, but it gives the place a great feeling. We made friends with a group of six sitting next to us, I think they were there for a graduation dinner. The mom was sitting next to my friend and when their food came, honestly it looked so good that when it was our time to order we just pointed at what they had and asked for the same. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. I love good rice. I also have to say that the drinks were great. I would come here for their drinks alone. I'm usually not a fan of fruity secretary cocktails, but for their pina coladas I'm a convert. They are strong without tasting too strong and the presentation is too cute, makes me want to break out in the cheating song, "DO YOU LIKE PINA COLADAS?!?!?!?!! AND GETTING CAUGHT IN THE RAIN?!?!?!"
google avatar

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't reviewed Flor De Mayo yet. I've been eating here for over a decade because I live nearby. I usually go pick it up myself but it's also a great spot for dine in. The service is always fast and friendly. My favorites are the roast pork egg foo young, wonton soup (or egg drop), 1/2 rotisserie chicken, and egg rolls. I gotta branch out and try the other stuff but it's tough too when that order is so good! I just wish the takeout stuff didn't use so much plastic for the containers. I can't dock a star for that. It's an industry-wide issue unfortunately. Maybe I should dine in more to cut down on it. Also, if you don't know the history of the nutcracker drink, look up the Wikipedia article for it. It was invented by Flor De Mayo and a drug dealer, which is amazing. Oh, and the ambiance is nice. Good spot to get loose with some fun drinks!
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
Good food, affordable prices. Great fusion of cultures. You can't go wrong. Service is on it, they were very passionate about their menu.. lead us through their popular dishes, their personal favorites and etc. The restaurant was packed, but the food came out hot and fast and you can tell everyone in the spot was having a good time.
google avatar

Sharon M.

Yelp
Flor is Family favorite as we are big fans of comida Chino Peruano. Service is always friendly, portions are always good. Some of our fave dishes are tallarines verdes, seco de res, arroz con pollo verde, of course the lomo and ceviche. In addition, every time I order delivery, it's fast and there is an abundance of food sent. The only downfall is that there is usually a line to get in especially if you go on the weekends. I like going during the week for the lunch specials and when i get a table right away!! Clean with plenty of nods to Peru! Viva Peru Carajo!!
google avatar

Barbie I.

Yelp
The service was nice and some dishes were ok. It was VERY over priced for what you got. First off we ordered ceviche. It didn't not come with any of the usual sides just the fish loaded with onions on 2 iceberg lettuce leaves. I was not impressed. If you say you want offer ceviche then we're are the typical accompaniments?? Ok moving on. Got my lomo saltado and I had large chunks of tomatoes and loads of shoes string fries. Again... not typical. I feel like they fill in the meal with cheaper ingredients so that they can skimp on what you think you're paying almost $30 for. Anyways I won't be recommending them and won't be back again.
google avatar

Bert K.

Yelp
We choose this restaurant at random. Incredible food! Go with a larger group so you can order many different items.
google avatar

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
I loveee Flor De Mayo!!! Always have. The food never disappoints. I am a sucker for their lomo saltado, the meat is always so juicy and tender. The perfect amount of fries, rice and tomatoes, I really cannot ask for more! Their Pina coladas are one of the few I cannot get enough of. But you can count on all of their drinks being strong :) This place usually stays busy, you're in luck if you're able to just walk in and be seated without a wait. The staff here are so pleasant, attentive and fast on their feet. I leave so full and happy every-time I come here despite the calorie intake haha
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
Randomly came across this gem with my wife on vacation. Melting pot of customers in the restaurant which was kinda cool to see. We usually aren't big fans of the "multiple ethnicity" spots, but this one hit differently. I had an amazing Mojito to go along with our Lomo Saltado and ceviche. The highlight of this spot was our server Angel. He was very patient with us asking all the touristy questions and comments.
google avatar

Karla B.

Yelp
I haven't been here in a few years I've heard the food doesn't taste the same , I was in the neighborhood and decided to swing on by to check it out for myself . As soon as I walked in they asked if I needed a high chair which I loved ! It is a small location so I did need to leave the stroller in the front and fold it . They sat us down immediately, I went to bathroom to wash our hands they have a baby changing table so with no doubt this is a baby child friendly location . Upon sitting down they brought us bread which was definitely not homemade but was decent . We got a lomo with the special house fried rice it fed 3 people plus baby . It's not bad it's just not the same I'm Assuming the chef changed The server was great

Yelp
I had a good time here after a burlesque show I attended. I was very hungry and ready to eat. Had to wait a little bit to be seated because we had a lot of people with us, so it was understandable. The place was. Bustling as any spot would be on a Saturday night. It was busy and kept getting busy, not really noisy tho in my opinion. I tried a few things here, and I didn't have any complaints. The yuca balls caught my eye and looked presentable as in the photo. The Peruvian rotisserie chicken was made well and had those flavors I have tasted in similar Peruvian restaurants. The sauce for the chicken i loved it! The mofongo I ordered had pork but was a bit different in style as to how it was cooked. The pork was on top of the mofongo instead of being mixed in with it. One thing i would say is that the sauce for the mofongo could have been more on the flavorful side. It was a bit bland for my liking. The rope Vieja I personally liked. I don't usually eat this often, but it was tasty. The nut crackers were strong, too. Especially after drinking all day. Overall, I enjoyed it and wouldn't mind coming back.

Yelp
Great food especially the chicken with roast pork fried rice. I cannot find a restaurant like La Flor de Mayo in Deltona, FL. I was in NYC in September and one of the first things I did was buy my favorite food from La Flor de Mayo.

Yelp
Classic! Strong drinks and amazing food. Doesnt matter what you get everything is good

Yelp
This was ok. Decent food good service sort of casual sit down. I would probably come back but it's aggressively fine imo
google avatar

Reshma S.

Yelp
Flor de Mayo is consistently delicious. Their roasted chicken is great as are their rice and beans. Their selection of Chinese dishes is extensive and always fresh. Also, while the wait staff are not necessarily warm or friendly, the overall service is excellent--the place runs like a machine even when crowded.

Yelp
We went early@4 pm Monday 4.24.23. Still good since '77 when I first tried it. Got the round table next to the kitchen this time with 5 of us. My meal was: Chinese style Squid Ink fried rice w/shrimp& pork $19. A flavor delight if you've never tried. Half Puruvian Roast Chicken with vinegar hot sauce ($9.5). Not hot enough? Ask for the house hot sauce! The white meat is as juicy as the dark, they do perfect roasting. Not shown, the seafood soup ($12.) Mussels, fish and more. Nicely spiced. Killer food! Tasted like they used commercial chopped up garlic in the jar for the garlic shrimp and tostones, but that was the only chance in quality I noticed in years. Also now that I'm advanced in years the salt content is high. Got a lemon wedge for the water and probably dreams a quart. My starter was an espresso. Wakey wakey taste buds! I miss the fish tank though.
