NYC New Restaurant Openings, September 2025 | Eater NY

"A small casual spot and shop turns out a 17-sandwich lineup from a spicy tuna melt to the naanini—a panini of butter chicken and cheese—alongside retail staples, with limited dine-in and a focus on takeout from the team behind Fontainhas and Dukaan." - Nadia Chaudhury

Fonty’s Bodega - Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation

"From the team behindFontainhasin Dumbo, Fonty’s Bodega is an Indian-leaning sandwich shop in the West Village, where you can choose between things like a chicken tikka panini, and a caesar wrap with tamarind ranch. They also have a small grocery section at the front of the shop with things like Maggi ketchup and other pantry products." - Will Hartman

Introducing the ‘Naanini’

"At a new Indian deli in the West Village, I fell for the Chicken Tikka Naanini — a viral naan‑and‑panini hybrid with saucy chicken tikka oozing from its aluminum‑swaddled halves. I waited about ten minutes in the tight shop packed with modern jarred sambals and spicy snacks, then another 15 minutes for the burrito‑heavy unit; it evoked Taco Bell in its gourmandise, with a grilled, gordita‑esque exterior stuffed with saucy, cheesy chicken, a brisk heat and warm spiciness in the secret sauce, and properly large, juicy chunks of chicken. Worth the wait? Yes, and the time it takes to get one ensures you’re hungry enough to finish it." - Tammie Teclemariam

Good excitement … great experience!! I was intrigued by this hold in the wall place that boasted of some really popular sandwiches and a modern take on them so I had to go and visit them! I did the Bombay sandwich, Begun bhaja, chutney sandwich and each of these hit the mark consistently and admirably. The crunch, the gooey cheese and the spices and condiments used take you oh so close to that Mumbai street experience! They don’t have a phone number so be ready to go park your car and get your order prepared for you. Am going to definitely do again!

Google
sandwiches here are honestly really delicious. I enjoyed the Bombay sandwich and it’s nice to see a desi sandwich style shop be in nyc. It is a bit pricey tho especially for the size ranging from $15-$25 w tax and everything. Lots of cute snacks and goods too! Service is also very friendly and fast. I’d come back again!

Google
Heard a lot of hype over the new Indian Bodega but I think it lives up to the hype! Yes it’s pricey but I think it’s best to share some items with a group for the best deal, and you get to try multiple things. We shared a Bombay sandwich and chicken tikka naanini as a group of 3. Both were delicious! The Bombay sandwich was smaller but still so flavorful, and the naanini was definitely larger and more filling but still great. I’d definitely come back and try more.

Google
Fontys is a MUST try Indian bodega in the west village. While there is a line early in the afternoon, the line eventually dies down and you’ll be able to enjoy the full Fontys experience. We got lucky and was able to get a table in their small back area during peak hours (2:45pm) and enjoy our food. The Chicken Tikka Nannini and Lamb Meatball Sandwhich were TO DIE FOR. Also, best chai in the Manhattan, HANDS DOWN. We are most definitely coming back several times. 10/10 experience.

Google
Tried the much-hyped Chicken Tikka Panini, definitely worth the buzz! the Lamb Meatball Sub didn’t quite suit the Indian palate. Service is fast & good ambuence with cozy atmosphere. might not get a seat though

I had one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had in New York at Fonty’s Deli. We waited an hour and a half for our food, which we partly expected given the hype, but the process was chaotic and disorganized. By the time we finally reached the counter, several items including the Bombay sandwich we were most excited to try were already sold out. It’s hard to understand why the shop advertises being open until 11pm if multiple menu staples are gone by mid-afternoon. When our food finally arrived, it was an enormous letdown for the price (over $25 for two small items). The chili cheese sandwich, a beloved Indian classic, was made using the two unwanted ends of the bread and tasted nothing like the original. The $15 chickpea sandwich was dry, bland, and I had to pick pieces of tin foil out of my food. I truly wanted to love this place. The concept is exciting, and the desi cultural touches in the decor make the space feel cozy and inviting. But the food quality and customer experience fall far short of expectations, especially at these prices.

Google
Got their Bombay sandwich which had potato filling, onion, amul cheese. The sandwich was delicious and definitely authentic to its flavor! They also have spices, snacks but Everything on the pricey side.

Google
Fonty's is so charming! A cute little sandwich shop and store with really tasty food. Rarely, as a vegetarian, am I overwhelmed with options, but there was so much to choose from. I got the Bombay, which was super flavorful and satisfying. Excited to go back and try the others.

Yelp
Top Tuna Melt! Man that was a good sandwich. Probably the best tuna melt I've ever had. Super cute shop and eatery. So many other sandwiches I'd liek to try. Will be back.

Yelp
I love seeing this concept of a Desi bodega in the West Village. Some things to keep in mind: the shop is pretty small so the area to order, to wait for your order, and to sit down are cramped. The sandwiches themselves are very tasty and remind me of my childhood. Now $15 a sandwich is a lot (with the exception of the chutney cheese which was $8) which is my only complaint. And my friend ordered an iced rose cardamom chai which was extremely milky. So perhaps they are still working out the kinks -- hoping for their continued success.

Yelp
We got the rose cinnamon chai, Bombay sandwich and the cheese chutney sandwich. Definitely recommend the Bombay sandwich- all the layers were great and there wasn't too much of one ingredient. Also great for vegetarians! Waited 2 hours in line for our sandwich - love that this place is getting so much publicity but hopefully the line starts to improve after a while

Yelp
Got the Bombay sandwich and it was really good! Like a more unique and interesting grilled cheese, but with a little too much chutney, overflowing with it. Delicious cheese though, so creamy, and loved the grill on the bread. Will come back to try the chickpea sandwich for sure!

Yelp
What a cool and exciting concept - and Indian style bodega! I loved the Chicken Tikka Nanani. The flavors were absolutely delicious and they did justice to the filling. The eggplant bhaja sandwich was also pretty solid. I think one thing they can improve on is flow - I felt that things could have moved a bit faster or maybe they should expand staffing + seating to accommodate the popularity. The flavors were wonderful though and great creativity in the sandwiches!

Yelp
Loved the whole idea of desi bodega! They have some tables in the back to sit. Service is good. Place is tiny and lines are mostly around the block. They dont go by fast either but the wait is so worth their panini nannini- Tried it in chicken and potatoes and loved both. Their masala chai is good too.

Yelp
Friendly staff and cute little sandwich joint in the village. Perfect blend of American and Indian - in the form of sandwiches. Highly recommend the tuna melt and the lamb meatball sandwich. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Saw this place all over Tik tok and wanted to try it out! Cute bodega in west village featuring a small collection of Indian/ Indian-inspired products. We tried the Kerala beef panini ( they were able to modify for my allergies, which was appreciated) and the Bombay sandwich. Both were solid. Enjoy the fried curry leaves inside which felt very authentic. Wish they had a little more seating inside as well had to sit on the curb outside. Good spot for late night eats or lunch

Yelp
Deliciousssss the Bombay sandwich was very yummy. I def want to try more of the menu. The place has decent seating but it's been super busy and packed so try to go at an odd hour. The closest thing to Indian "snacky" sandwhiches I've seen in nyc. They have an interesting selection of provisions as well

Yelp
The lamb kebab with tomato sauce and burrata was an excellent choice! Highly recommend if you want a little bit of spice and creamy flavor.

Yelp
Sandwich was ok, but man was it small and expensive. I got the Parsi and it was $24 after tax and tip and I could fit it in the palm of my hand.

Yelp
If I could recommend any place to have some good Indian street style sandwiches, it would be Fonty's. We ordered the Bombay sandwich and the cheese chutney sandwich and both were soooo good, that we ordered a second round to go! The food is excellent and their masala chai is to die for! Highly recommend if you want a good sandwich or some comfort food. Overall a 10/10.

Yelp
My husband and I tried Fonty's Bodega and were blown away! Arjun and the entire team are so welcoming and have really created something special. This week is their soft opening, so they didn't have the full menu but we were lucky enough to try two of their sandwiches. First, the Parsi: Fonty's take on a cubano. It was an amazing combination of flavors with the perfect kick + the pickles add a nice little crunch. Second was the chicken naanini: a spicy chicken tikka, tomatoey, pickled onion, pillowy naan hug. The portions are generous - we were pretty full after the Parsi, but powered through half the naanini anyways. ALSO there's tons of specialty ingredients and snacks to choose from. We went with Keya's chips which did not disappoint! Final note: try the Chai. Tastes like fall in a cup.

Yelp
We ordered a chutney sandwich, Bombay sandwich, vada pan and tea. Food was amazing. Totally loved it. It's also got this cosy ambience with fun Knick kanacks all around. Absolutely recommend it!

Yelp
so good, worth the hype. the store is very cute, lots of snacks and different indian spices. the workers were nice. i got the chicken naanini - so good.

Yelp
Lovely spot, the owner Arjun was very friendly and talked about why he opened the spot. Food was wonderful, ambience was great in the back room

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of Fontainhaas Dukaan and the whole team since the beginning, so I was THRILLED when I found out Varsha, Arjun, and Viraj would be opening their second project in the West Village! Half general store, half local living room, Fonty's feels so sweet -- built on the same warm hospitality that's at the heart of everything this crew does, with a delectable and inventive sandwich menu and a spot-on selection of signature chai / coffee / juice, plus a roomful of snacks and speciality ingredients that I was too happily dazed by to properly take in -- more to explore on repeat visits! For a first lunch at the soft opening, I had the naanini with kerela beef and it was to DIE for -- bright and kicky mint chutney, warm spiced potatoes, and romaine + curry leaf crisp for freshness and crunch (also held up gorgeous as leftovers!). Am looking forward to eating my way through the whole menu alongside cups of chai by the fireplace or at the beautiful bay window looking out on Christopher Street, and to basking in the creativity and heartfelt care that's so beautifully present here.
