Fonty’s Bodega - Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation

"From the team behindFontainhasin Dumbo, Fonty’s Bodega is an Indian-leaning sandwich shop in the West Village, where you can choose between things like a chicken tikka panini, and a caesar wrap with tamarind ranch. They also have a small grocery section at the front of the shop with things like Maggi ketchup and other pantry products." - Will Hartman

Amazing owners, friendliest atmosphere and incredible sandwiches. As a vegetarian, you don’t come across good sandwich options often - Fontys has 8 options. I’ve tried the Chickpea Patty sandwich and Bombay sandwich so far and they were both so flavorful. A must try and incredible add to the West Village!

My husband and I tried Fonty’s Bodega and were blown away! Arjun and the entire team are so welcoming and have really created something special. This week is their soft opening, so they didn’t have the full menu but we were lucky enough to try two of their sandwiches. First, the Parsi: Fonty’s take on a cubano. It was an amazing combination of flavors with the perfect kick + the pickles add a nice little crunch. Second was the chicken naanini: a spicy chicken tikka, tomatoey, pickled onion, pillowy naan hug. The portions are generous - we were pretty full after the Parsi, but powered through half the naanini anyways. Can’t wait to have the leftovers later. ALSO there’s tons of specialty ingredients and snacks to choose from. We went with Keya’s chips which did not disappoint! Final note: try the Chai. Tastes like fall in a cup.

The chicken naanini haunts my dreams! This team has created the cutest and coziest neighborhood bodega vibe and it is sure to become your new favorite spot. :))

Randomly walked into this place over the weekend and I’ve already recommended it to my friends/family. It’s still in its soft opening phase but I can’t imagine this place not becoming a favorite in the area. I think I got the Bombay sandwich and I loved it! There was so much variety to the sandwich, it was honestly so fun to eat. There’s a lot on the menu that I want to try, so it’s one of those places you have to keep coming back to. I also found it so interesting, even though they’re technically not open, they already seem to have regulars. I would definitely stop by if you’re in the area. One of the staff actually told me they have a restaurant in Dumbo—Fontinhas Dukaan (I think?), and Fontinhas is a place in Goa (I think Fonty is shortened from that). Anyways, definitely worth trying!

Wandered in today and was blown away by the place. Not only does it have bodega essentials but it also has a really good food menu. The chicken tikka naanini-panini was insanely delicious and the eggplant sandwich was equally amazing. If you find yourself in the west village this is a must try.

This hidden gem in the West Village is a modern masterpiece, brought to life by the visionary Arjun, Varsha, Viraj and their wonderful team. Their charisma and uplifting energy make you feel instantly at home. Every detail, from the curated shelves of unique products to the magical living room with a cozy fireplace, reflects their passion and care. Their original creation ‘EGGPLANT BHAJA SANDWICH’ is a brilliant example of their captivating modern twist on Indian food—utterly delicious and unforgettable. This isn’t just a meal, it’s a soulful experience that celebrates creativity, warmth, and genuine hospitality. FONTY’S Bodega is an experience, a gathering place, and a sincere offering of creativity and love. If you’re in the West Village and want to be delighted, nourished, and truly cared for, don’t miss it!

The tuna melt is mouth watering. Still thinking about it, my new favorite lunch.

Was absolutely amazing!!! I got the scissor salad wrap and it was an Indian spin on a Caesar wrap!! One of the best things I’ve tried in the city and will 100% be back

Yelp
Friendly staff and cute little sandwich joint in the village. Perfect blend of American and Indian - in the form of sandwiches. Highly recommend the tuna melt and the lamb meatball sandwich. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of Fontainhaas Dukaan and the whole team since the beginning, so I was THRILLED when I found out Varsha, Arjun, and Viraj would be opening their second project in the West Village! Half general store, half local living room, Fonty's feels so sweet -- built on the same warm hospitality that's at the heart of everything this crew does, with a delectable and inventive sandwich menu and a spot-on selection of signature chai / coffee / juice, plus a roomful of snacks and speciality ingredients that I was too happily dazed by to properly take in -- more to explore on repeat visits! For a first lunch at the soft opening, I had the naanini with kerela beef and it was to DIE for -- bright and kicky mint chutney, warm spiced potatoes, and romaine + curry leaf crisp for freshness and crunch (also held up gorgeous as leftovers!). Am looking forward to eating my way through the whole menu alongside cups of chai by the fireplace or at the beautiful bay window looking out on Christopher Street, and to basking in the creativity and heartfelt care that's so beautifully present here.
