We do love fried seafood, and we finally made it to this combination seafood market and cafe. I was especially looking forward to trying the bone in Whiting, one of the most under rated fish there is, along with bone in Black Sea Bass. I don't mind working my way thru the bones as long as there is enough meat to make it worthwhile.
The restaurant, which has been around since 1984, is bright and clean, and is rather large. You know that you are in the presence of fish, but there is not a heavy, unpleasant air to the place. It is strictly no frills - plastic plates and table ware, condiment table in the middle with hot sauce, tarter sauce, napkins, small packets of salt & pepper, and functional wooden tables & straight back chairs.
We ordered 2 item combos - bone in Whiting (2 pieces), with Potato Salad and Slaw, and Flounder (2 pieces) with FFs and Slaw - both came with HPs - and with 2 soft drinks, the tab was $29.85, more than a bit pricey for lunch, especially considering the portion sizes.
The time out of the kitchen wasn't at all bad, but what we were served wasn't worth the price. This is especially true for the Whiting - there were 2 small, butterflied fish, heavily battered, and very much over cooked. Picking thru to fish any meat, yield perhaps a 1/4 cup of flesh - bit of a ripoff! The HPs were good, as was the Potato Salad (bit different with a little dill pickle & a touch of mustard). The slaw is sweeter than I care for, and very wet.
The Flounder fillets were not as over cooked, but did come out a touch on the dry side. The FFs are battered and were excellent - best item in the entire meal. The service was efficient, but not friendly, or in anyway engaging.
I don't know that we'd return here considering the value and quality aspects we encountered. Coulda been a bad day in the kitchen for the quality problems, but the value consideration is gonna be there.
