Small eatery offers sandwiches inspired from international classics from Spain & Vietnam to Philly.
"Fred’s takes the top spot on our best sandwich guide because they’re severe overachievers. We don’t have a guide for best pimento cheese sandwiches (yet), but if we did Fred’s version with crispy bacon and a fried green tomato would make the cut. That’s because every single dish on this Krog Market food stall’s tidy menu is piled with high-quality proteins, including salami and ribeye, and served on bread made fresh daily by TGM Bread (a.k.a. the team at The General Muir). And while their meat and bread combos go full feast mode for sandwich lovers (a cheesesteak or burger is always a good idea), their hand-cut fries with toppings like white BBQ sauce or garlic bits and ranch elevate things even more." - nina reeder, jacinta howard, juli horsford
"Nobody does sandwiches in Atlanta as well as the Fred’s Meat & Bread stall in Krog Street Market. And that sentiment extends to their burger. It comes with two juicy patties, a few slices of cheese, mayo, and pickles stacked on a sesame seed bun (the bread is made fresh daily by TGM Bread, the team at The General Muir). The burger is juicy and so good we’re always tempted to save half for later, but that’s always a fail." - jacinta howard
"This Krog Street Market food stall has a collection of generously filled sandwiches that earn them a spot on our best sandwich guide, but Fred’s cheesesteak and burger top that pack as the best thing on the menu. Get the classic with chopped ribeye, caramelized onions, and melted american cheese all on a warm, long roll. One bite into that perfectly crispy roll (made by the General Muir bakery team) should make any Philadelphia transplant question their allegiance to the Amoroso roll. And when you want to mix it up, get our favorite, the Korean cheesesteak with spicy candied jalapeños drenched in gochujang sauce. The combination of sweet, spicy, cheesy, and saucy zestiness gives us all the warm feelings. " - juli horsford
"This stall in Krog Street Market is from the team behind The General Muir, so they’ve already got some sandwich cred. But Fred’s covers an array of meat and bread genres from po’boys to cheesesteaks and even bánh mìs. And they are all done exceptionally well. Our go-to is the Korean cheesesteak drenched in gochujang sauce with a hefty kick from some candied jalapeños. And for those who can't eat a sandwich without a potato side, Fred’s makes some of the best fries in the city, which can be spiced up with garlic, cilantro, aioli, and BBQ sauces. "Great graphics and the smell of garlic can’t help but draw you in. The old-school menu offers straight-up sandwiches & fries along with Cauliflower & Eggplant "Banh Mi" and a Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich added in for a little spice. The garlic fries will make you drool. (And ward off vampires should you be plagued by them.) Fred's is located in Krog Street Market." - Brand Bird
