On the Grid : French Louie

"French Louie is stylish, elegant and classic - so you might be surprised to learn it’s named after the rugged trapper and French-Canadian Adirondack lumberjack, Louis Seymour. But look a little closer and you’ll see little nods to the outdoorsman, from pine tree menu illustrations to log cabin knick-knacks decorating the bar. Beyond the myth of the man is the food, of course: French-American with hints of Creole inspiration. French Louie is open for lunch, brunch, and dinner, so enjoy the popular nicoise salad in the patio on your day off, or choose from 3 different steak frites when you settle in after 5pm." - Brooklyn Digital Foundry

13 Excellent Steak Tartares in NYC - Eater NY

"Owned by the same team as Carroll Gardens’ Buttermilk Channel, this Boerum Hill restaurant makes its steak tartare with egg yolk, chile oil, cornichons, and briny, crunchy pickled mustard seeds. It’s served at dinner as well as weekend brunch. Elsewhere on the menu, look for creative tweaks on French dishes and ingredients, like a savory foie gras parfait appetizer. When the weather is nice, hit up the tranquil backyard garden." - Alexandra Ilyashov

Very pleasant experience! The service was excellent, and the food was even better. We loved pretty much everything we ordered, and a huge thank you to the staff — I had accidentally left my sunglasses behind, and they kindly returned them to me the next day. 🤗

Was expecting more of the reviewed options like the steak frites to be on the brunch menu but seems like they do a different set. Crab Louie was pretty good though. Had service at the bar and was attentively taken care of although I was also inadvertently able to hear all the team gossip. May come back to try their dinner menu.

Our group of six had a wonderful brunch at French Louie. Everyone enjoyed their food, but the Crab Louie was the table favorite for sure. Nice atmosphere inside, and next time I think I'd book a table in their back garden, it looked lovely. Service was efficient, but a times could have been more attentive. I did very much appreciate their flexibility to adjust our reservation less than 24 hours in advance. Reservations likely required for weekend brunch as there was a large crowd trying to get a table as we left.

Love the burgers here, you can really taste the charred flavors. Portions are generous and attentive service!

Beautiful ambiance but a bit tight. Great attentive staff. Food was good but didn’t blow me away. The octopus is really small. Did not like the leeks vinagrette. The mussels are great! The banana foster dessert is to die for. Heard great things about the pasta. Tried a bit of the cast iron chicken: nice and smoky, big portion. The fish looked good too - heard it was very bony.

I loved this place. It's a small place but it is comfortable. They have a very cute patio, which I was happy to be able to enjoy. The service is very good. I had the Anchovies Frites. They were 😋 especially when paired with the Aioli that comes with it. I also had the Gougers. They were good. The prices are reasonable. I have to come back and try something else on the menu.

FANTASTIC DINNER SPOT: we had dinner here with friends a few nights ago. Every dish we had was delicious. Great wine list and fun cocktails. Our waitress was great- very helpful and funny. The steak frites was my fav. We loved all of the veggie sides. Would definitely go back!

Google
Update: The first time that we dined here, we had such a wonderful time and were excited to come back. Unfortunately, our most recent experience wasn’t as great. The service is friendly, but absolutely not attentive. No one ever checked in on our table, they do not pour wine or water even when you purchase bottles. I had to wait several minutes to flag someone down to have them fix my meal. They don’t observe dietary restrictions and food, allergies. they never asked us if we wanted anything else before they brought the check. They rushed the appetizers. It was a stereotypical young , uninspired BK staff. We will not return. 2023: We had a beautiful dining experience in the garden. The 2019 Saint Emilion was perfect. We split a salad, and enjoyed the duck and the papardelle with poached egg. Can’t wait for our next date night at French Louie.

Yelp
I went in alone and will say my least favorite parts of the experience were getting a table and getting the bill. Both very slow processes. Host seemed to be helping people a little slower than I'm used to. Not sure where my waiter went at the end of the meal but I sat around for at least 10 minutes and had to flag a bartender down to help me. Otherwise, it was a very lovely experience and I'm looking forward to returning. I was sat by the window which was such a vibe. Loved people/car watching - only drawback is that it's right by the door so that winter air was chilling, but in the summer, this is the spot to be! I came in specifically for the restaurant week menu. I did also get some peppermint tea which was just delightful! I started my meal with the steak tartare which I thoroughly enjoyed. I still think the dish is such a funny concept, but from the few that I've tried, this was probably my favorite. I then followed up with the Moules frites Normande, which I LOVED. I'm a sucker for a good fry and these fries were GOOD. Mussels were also meaty (I feel like a lot of places serve small mussels). I ended the meal with the lemon olive oil cake. While I was a fan of the flavor profile, I do think the ratios were a little off. There was too much strawberry preserve in my opinion. The cake itself while tasty, was a little too dense for my liking. But it was a nice little sweet treat to end my meal with. I've been wanting to come to this place for a while and I'm elated with my experience. Definitely looking forward to coming back :)

Yelp
My partner and I caught a comedy show last night and wanted to grab a bite to eat in the area, so we decided to try French Louie since it has a solid looking menu and decent reviews. While in general the food was fantastic, the standout was the service and the cozy ambiance. Even as patrons at 10pm, we never felt rushed or like we were a bother, and our server was exceptionally pleasant and friendly. The menu consist of many French classics, but that steak tartare really blew us away. The right level of smokiness and tenderness (not chewy or gamey). We also ordered the radishes and butter, gnocchi, and bavette steak frittes. While all were good, we wish the steak frittes would stand out a little more (since it seems like the staple menu item that everyone orders). Oh, and we wanted to try the bananas foster profiteroles for dessert, but they were out by the time we wanted to order (understandably so since we were eating late). The pot de creme was a nice alternative though!

Yelp
Nice ambience, decent brunch, and good service Food: I got the crab eggs Benedict and the creme brûlée French toast with a side of friend. The crab eggs Benedict was decent! The side of fries were incredible and such a large serving. The creme brûlée French toast was so large (not the best tho)! All the food was decent, but nothing was standout Service: good friendly service Ambience: I enjoyed the ambience! Very spacious and nice! Price: reasonably priced especially for the portion sizes

Yelp
Restaurant week can be a hit or miss, but this was a solid spot I'd like to return to. Dim lighting that was bright enough to read the menu but dark enough to feel comfortable eating dinner with friends. The food came out quickly and I enjoyed everything- prawns, trout, and lemon cake. Out of the three, the trout may have been my least favorite because of the apple & puree texture, but I didn't mind the parsnip flavor and it was still tasty. Felt like everything had butter, but in the most french way. If youre hungry, go for the chicken- huge portion unlike the trout. The wine was a good medium bodied red wine. The waitress checked on us regularly, gave nice recommendations, but gave us enough space to talk without interrupting. Even after we finished & paid, we weren't rushed to leave the table/restaurant.

Yelp
We came for brunch and it was bustling. The interior is bright but the tables are close. The burger was great and the espresso martinis are even better

Audrey K.

Yelp
The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside. Nice and rustic inside and the decor was clean and fresh. Once inside, the staff couldn't be nicer. We were celebrating a birthday and went for Restaurant Week price fixed menu. The lentil soup, chicken dish and steak were all delicious. A candle was added to our son-in-law's dessert and we all sang "Happy Birthday". Looking forward to returning.

Yelp
Try: Steak Frites - Bavette Steak! Why: Got my steak medium-rare and enjoyed each juicy tender bite. They make their own house-made steak sauce. The steak knife wasn't as sharp so took some extra pressure and slicing. They packed the plate with mixed greens salad and fries, both were good. So good I ate the entire plate! Paired the meal with a French 75 cocktail made with cognac, champagne, and lemon. It was refreshing so i ended having two. Notes: Hostess and server were friendly and helpful. Cute restaurant with backyard garden seating. We had a large group celebrating a friend's birthday so made reservations. We were seated inside and it was a bit of a tight squeeze for a party of eight. Two clean bathrooms right next to kitchen, one was spacious and another small. It was a busy evening so a short line for bathrooms. Overall, a solid meal and enjoyable birthday party.

Yelp
Very good selection for restaurant week! If you're ever craving french food, this is the spot! Each bite was quite delicious (I got to taste multiple people's dishes hehe) I think maybe on the more expensive side but worth it for a bundle like restaurant week. The ambiance is very cozy cute, and the service is excellent as well!

Yelp
Lovely restaurant. So far, have only been there during work day lunch but have been impressed. Service is pleasant, food is delicious, and it's a cute spot. It's good for date night or for work meeting.

Yelp
Super cute place in Brooklyn! Was nearby for a uppababy stroller maintenance appointment and had a couple hours to kill. So decided to come here for brunch. They have a super cute patio in the back equipped with heating lamps so it was nice and toasty there. Staff members were super nice. Very busy place for sure. If you want to sit inside make sure you have a reservation. My husband ordered the Bloody Mary which he thoroughly enjoyed. There were non alcoholic options for cocktail but I didn't think they were appropriate for pregnant lady like me at that time. Im pretty sure pregnant women shouldn't have hibiscus and egg whites in their drinks. I ordered the croissant and it came with a delicious apple butter that I highly recommend. It was so flaky and delicious. I ordered the burger royale and it was so good! The fries were so crispy and not too oily. So a great choice if you're in the hearty mood. We also ordered the mushroom scramble. The eggs were cooked perfectly fluffy and came with nice toast and salad on the side. My husband ended the meal with an earl gray hot toddy which really cleared his sinuses and he enjoyed. It's a great drink for the winter according to him. Great find in Brooklyn. Would definitely visit again.

Yelp
What a fantastic place! The food was absolutely delicious, like wow wow wow! We had their prawns and pasta, can't stress enough how amazing those dishes were. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We made a reservation for French Louie for 7:45 pm on a Friday! It was 3/4 empty with an outdoor patio space! We ordered the baguette and butter with Frenchie (salad) before ordering the cast iron chicken and the Bavette steak! The baguette and butter was the perfect size to start with and it was only three dollars! The Frenchie salad was very flavorful with the French dressing, some bacon, onions, lettuce and cheese! It was simple but delightful, opened our palettes for the entrees! The Bavette steak came with a salad and fries! The fries were great, they also provided some sauce on the side for your steak and fries! The steak was delicious and well made! They had generous portion size for the food that they were serving. The cast iron chicken came with potatoes and broccoli. The broccoli was bitter so that was odd, otherwise, the flavor overall was very mild and simple! Overall, great establishment to come to for an intimate dinner! I look forward to popping by for some brunch!

Yelp
A really nice breakfast/lunch venue in the heart of Brooklyn. My son knows this place quite well and suggested it to all of us. Good choice. Great service. Busy-noisy. Also outside dining. Front bar service. Great food. Cognoscenti-type clientele.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday night with 2 other friends and got a table immediately. The interior is elegant, and weeknight dinner here is perfect with a lighter crowd overall. Our server was excellent and very professional. Our food came out pretty quickly as well. Bavette Steak - Excellently done. Juicy, well seasoned steak sliced and laid on a bed of shoestring fries. The small salad is a nice touch, though obviously not a big highlight of the dish. The steak practically fell apart with just my fork -- very tender. Parjs Brest - I usually don't do dessert, but this one is certainly worth the addition. It's extremely light and airy; the creme is hazelnut and has little crunchy sugar crystals. Value: 4/5 Quality: 5/5 Quantity: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Yelp
When we first entered the restaurant, I loved that it was spacious and bright. We had a reservation on Sunday for originally for 8 people, but we ended up having an additional person join. When we approached the hostess about this issue, she was extremely taken aback; Understandably she was frustrated, so I had suggested that we can do 2 separate tables since it appeared that there were no reservations and many open tables. The hostess was visibly upset and demanded that, "since we all came as a group that the group cannot be split." She was extremely rude and continued to roll her eyes and sigh at us. At this point, I was ready to leave the restaurant, but my friends suggested that we just stay. One of my friends were able to convince her to seat us at 2 separate tables, it ended up working out; I would've given this restaurant a better review since the food was pretty decent; However, the blonde female hostess was extremely passive aggressive and rude to my friends who were visiting from out of town. It really ruined the experience & I was quite uncomfortable eating at the restaurant. I simply would not com back because of this negative encounter.

Yelp
We came here on a Monday night and there was a lot of space. The ambiance here is lovely - candles and the lighting is warm. The service was great, the hostess and servers were attentive. The food is a bit pricey for the quality / taste / enjoyment. It's not bad but I wouldn't recommend it, other than the restaurant is a nice spot to hang out at. We didn't grab drinks so I can't speak to that but I would imagine this play would be a nice place to chat over a few drinks.

Yelp
We popped here for the first time for lunch on a whim midweek. Even on a windy Wednesday the place was still busy and had a really nice atmosphere. We were seated quickly and appreciated the small menu. We ordered starters (anchovies frites and the chicken liver pate) and mains (steak frites and the Nicosia salad). All of the food that we had was delicious and the portions were very generous. We moved to NYC from London 7 months ago and both me and my partner agreed that this was the best meal we have had in New York to date. They also have a great wine list and we enjoyed a really nice bottle of rose. The service was great as well, attentive without being overbearing. All in all we had a great lunch and can't wait to return.

Yelp
Relaxing, cozy ambiance. Dimmed lighting for dinner. A cool mix of modern, hip music playing in the background. Nice space for enjoying your meal. Service oscillated from one visit to the next. One night, we had a lovely waitress who was spectacular in every possible way. The other time we returned (and were the only customers in a deserted restaurant), the place seemed understaffed, so we received zero service, as the staff were busy with something that must have been happening beyond our knowledge. $20 burger royale was worth returning for. Very juicy, tasty--a well constructed burger. Perfectly seasoned meat. Fries were crispy and well salted. Not oily at all, which I appreciated. Filling portion. $12 paris brest: the chou pastry was dry and not as fresh as it should have been. The almond & hazelnut cream filling was delectable, with a perfect balance of sweetness. Enjoyed the cream very much.

Yelp
Had an amazing dinner here for my birthday last night! The ambiance was perfect, lively and fun but not too loud or packed. The service was great! We had the aged steak frites and pappardelle - oh my gosh yum! Also the baguette & butter + escargot! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
A sucker for French cuisine - one true weakness if we had to pick a restaurant on a Saturday evening. There's a lot of restaurants to choose from walking down Boerum Hill. The sun was starting to set and we needed something savory for the Fall evening. Another backyard restaurant experience. It was a bit of a tight scheduling as the hostess told us we only had 1 and a half hour to finish. The staff was very mindful of our dinner dilemma and delivered everything to us in a timely manner. Even the drinks came out quick and they knew we were also there to enjoy a nice rose bottle. I wouldn't recommend anyone to engulf a bottle between 3 people super quickly unless you know how to hold your drinks, but this doesn't depreciate the dinner experience. The backyard garden seating area was very beautiful and we enjoyed watching the skies change to nightfall. My steelhead trout was so delicious and well balanced. That apple butter spread on the side did not last long as it was all gone. Even my friend's steak frites were amazing - medium well done charred and the fries were crispy with a hint of truffle. It was a shame we had to rush the whole experience as I would've liked the leisure time to savor my meal and order more. But what can you do when you're doing walk-in on a Saturday night? My only critique from this place was despite them rushing us to finish in 1.5 hours, it was really hard to get their attention when we had to check out and process payment. Everything else fitted in just right.

Yelp
After ditching spin class to relax in the sauna, my friend and I headed to French Louie for an impromptu dinner to extend an already lovely evening. We opted for the beautiful candle lit backyard but eventually moved inside. I ordered the vegetarian gnocchi and she had the steak frites. My dish was tasty and she raved about hers but the star of the show was the banana foster profiteroles. They were so wonderful. For drinks I had a glass of Pinot Blanc and she had French 75(s). I'll have to try that on my next visit. Service- Our first waitress was so bubbly and delightful but was nearing the end of her shift so we didn't have much time with her. I came here many years ago for Valentine's Day and loved it but hadn't returned since but I'll definitely be stopping by more often even if just for a glass of wine or cocktail and dessert.

Christopher S.

Yelp
Went there for a quick dinner. The waitress forgot about us in the front of the restaurant so our food sat in the window until it was cold. They served the food anyway and the manager comes over and offers to take a side order off the bill when he knew they messed up the service. We were short on time so we just ate and have never been back again.
google avatar

Yelp
We had the opportunity to dine at this popular French restaurant. The place always seemed so crowded and festive. Our seats were perfectly secluded. Began our evening with the tasty warm baguette and butter. Our first drinks for three people were served the French 75 cocktails, good not great. For food starters, we shared the pappardelle pasta that was delicious. The dinner menu for my wife and I consisted of each ordering the cast iron-roasted chicken with my son who had the steak frites, French fries and salad. (BTW, the cast iron chicken prepared at Olea, also in Brooklyn, is better.) The second set of drinks that tasted better were two Chespiritos and a glass of rose wine. The only bummer was the dessert choices. It is a sin for a French restaurant not to have crème brûlée as an option. Otherwise, the overall service was great.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
We had a group of four and got right in for dinner. Drinks were outstanding and food was delicious. The steak frites is the best although everyone loved their food! Service was great as well!

Yelp
Came here late on a weeknight. Anchovy frites: 5/5. Really good and unique. Duck au poivre: 2.5/5. A lot of beets, which I realize I don't super like in general unless they're pickled or dressed in some other strong flavor. The duck was not super tender or flavorful. As a french restaurant I expected an excellent sauce, and I didn't remember one here. Swordfish: 3/5. I liked this a lot more than the duck (more noticeable sauce, tender fish), but my friend who originally ordered it did not all, so compromising on the rating here. Also maybe my standards were lowered after having the duck. Broccoli rabe: 3.5/5. The roasting was really good, but they tasted way too salty. Liked the addition of chickpeas. Service: 3.5/5. Ran out of water and wasn't refilled for awhile. Also our broccoli rabe order was originally missed. Not sure if it was because we were a late reservation, but y'all agreed to serve us then, so... We did still arrive on time for it.

Yelp
Gorgeous and fun bistro with tables indoors, some on the patio, and a private space for a good-sized party. The latter is exposed to the elements, so sunscreen and hats are recommended. A hip yet classic place, French Louie's offers dinner and weekend brunch (and maybe lunch). Boozy cocktails are featured, as well as a local coffee roaster. Our brunch party got noshing on the homemade, delicious Lemon Madelines. Served with creamy butter and apple jam, they are tasty enough to eat on their own -- but why would you? Radishes with butter is another one of the appetizers, and I would love to try that sometime. For Brunch, almost everyone at our table got what must the be the house specialty, The Eggs Louie. Two perfectly poached eggs resting atop a buttery, moist and crunchy croissant. Inside the croissant is a crabmeat salad that proves more of an accent than a featured player. The chili flecked hollandaise generously bathes the dish (which is why I asked/received mine on the side. Hollandaise, even a chili-flecked version, makes me happiest when I may add rather than subtract the star attraction. Eggs Louie also arrives with a fantastic arugula salade complete with scallions and possibly fennel. The show stealer of the brunch had to be the Creme Brulee French Toast. At last, French Toast that feels French! The caramelized sheen found in the middle of the large double toast resembled a petit and fragile sugary rink. So good. The blackberrry jam, buried underneath the toast, felt quirky to be so hidden. However, it's a brilliant accent that heightens rather than distracts from the main event. Tre bien. The Steak Tartare (egg yolk, chile oil and pickled mustard seed) looks legit and gorgeous, receiving good reviews at our table. Service was friendly and attentive. Coffee, served in smaller cups, is delicious. (From Brooklyn Coffee Roasters) So much to choose from, and brunch is only a part of the excitement here. Very happy to visit French Louie. Though we were traveling and live nowhere near, I do look forward to returning before too long.

Yelp
I came here just this past weekend with a couple of friends, and we had just a delightful, perfect all-around brunch experience. French Louie is not just a clever name--food and experience here seems to have a classic French bent, from what felt to be a French-style, efficient yet unrushed service (well, unrushed for NY, not for Paris) to the crisp, fresh, inventive food & drink. Starting with the beverages, the Bloody Mary was perfect, just the right blend of spicy, tomato-y and boozy, and topped with delightful pickled veggies, and the coffee was excellent. It was a rare brunch where I wasn't craving eggs, so I went for the grilled trout po' boy, which was just exceptional, juicy fish, with the skin nicely crisped, topped with cabbage, cornichons and a delightful rémoulade. The salad also featured chopped cornichons and a light, flavorful vinaigrette. For the egg inclined, well, my friend got a Benedict with crabmeat on top of a croissant--she gave me a bite and it was incredible--that I am dying to try next time. My other friend had the smoked trout scramble topped with crème fraiche that he enjoyed as well. Ambience is great, the inside is comfortable and spacious (again, by NY standards) and there is a glorious looking backyard for outside seating. I jealously watched what looked like a small wedding or anniversary celebration that was going on outside from my seat, but honestly the experience was so wonderful and food so excellent I didn't begrudge the celebrants their exclusive use of the outside area. Rather, I calculated how soon I could plan to come back from another brunch or to try them out for dinner.

Yelp
Brooklyn Brunch experience I went to French Louie around 11:30 a.m. before going to the theater with friends. All my friends and I were satisfied with the food and service. The ambiance is casual and welcoming. I'd return if I went back to that area.

Yelp
It was a nice restaurant, good service and food. The muscles were outstanding. The chicken entree was good, but not as amazing as anticipated. Definitely would return and give more dishes a try.

Yelp
Really big portions, excellent service and everything tasted great. The brunch was spectacular.

Yelp
Great, cozy atmosphere. Duck Confit was excellently prepared. Dessert was wonderful. Wait staff was great as well and very friendly.

Yelp
Overall an amazing experience. The hostess was very accommodating, and the staff overall were very friendly. The decor was minimal but quaint and cozy. I had the steak and frites with Brussel sprouts on the side with a french 75 with cognac. The meal was delightful with a well seasoned and tender steak. The french 75 was not too strong but just right in flavor and strength. I'd come back for the same meal.

Yelp
We came for brunch and got the Eggs Louie and Creme Brulee french toast. Enjoyed both our plates, and the portion was definitely much bigger than the picture (for the french toast). The Eggs Louie was definetly the highlight of the meal. The hollaindaise sauce was one of the best I've had, and I liked how inventive it was for the crab and eggs to go on top of a croissant! The french toast had the burnt, cripsy exterior of a crème brûlée, and I was extremely impressed with how soft and smooth the interior was. The service was great and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Yelp
Went with a group of three and we had the best night! The atmosphere is so warm and cozy, and all the food was incredible! We started off with the beef tartare, the oysters and the Frenchie salad which were all perfect. For the mains we had the steelhead trout, the cast iron roasted chicken and a side of the Brussels sprouts. Do not skip the Brussels sprouts, they're amazing!

Yelp
Papi had the Po' boy and I had the chicken BLT. Both were delicious. The person waited out table was lovely and attentive. The restaurant has a lovely shaded backyard patio. We sat inside where the decor is simple but lovely as well.

Yelp
Super romantic, French cuisine in the Atlantic Ave BK area. I came with my partner for a Valentine's Day dinner/ restaurant week dinner, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It's been a little while since I've been there, but we actually enjoyed our appetizers more than our entrees. Who would've though that fried lemons were delicious?! (We got it as a part of a fried sardine appetizer). The duck entree was well done as well. A great cozy space in the neighborhood for sure.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Charming restaurant with a small menu but representative of French cuisine. I had anchovies frites and steak tartare. Baguette bread is excellent with whipped butter. My meal mate had escargot and the roast chicken. Huge portion. I spied the bavette plate, huge salad with shoestring fries. You won't be dissatisfied. Really quite quaint. Note steak bavette was served fairly rare.

Yelp
Pretty cute and romantic place to have a nice evening dinner at. Again, my friend who lives in NY recommended this place and I'm glad she did! We ordered some oysters which were phenomenal. They were incredibly fresh and made me want more! I also ordered a tequila cocktail and steak and fries. The steak was perfectly cooked the way I wanted it - medium rare. My friend who ordered his medium said it was a little too dry for his liking. The waitress said that the fries here were the best fries she's ever had. I'm wondering if she over did it because I was expecting the best and the fries were just alright, haha! They were great but not the best. It was an amazing place and great experience for some awesome food!

Yelp
I tried to make a reservation online for same day dining but there was nothing available. I decided to try my luck anyways and gave them a call to see if they had any tables for brunch and luckily they said they did. When I arrived I was seated in their outdoor patio. We ordered the creme brûlée french toast and the eggs Louie. The french toast was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. The two toast slices were both very thick. The top had a nice layer of caramelized sugar. However, underneath this layer was a ridiculous amount of excess sugar that had not been caramelized and was just sitting there on top of the bread. I enjoyed the eggs Louie which consisted of a croissant topped with crab, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce although it could use a bit more crab. When the bill came, the waitress just kind of awkwardly threw the receipt on the table and when I said thank you she didn't bother to respond. Not sure if it's because she was busy but I found it to be very rude and quite strange since I've never had this happen to me before.

Yelp
I've been frequenting Brooklyn more often and am glad that I have as the food is quite good there. French Louie is a super cute French spot that I would highly recommend for brunch. My friend and I just ordered some appetizers versus entrees as me being me, I wanted to try multiple different things. We got the ahi tuna, steak tartare, and chicken liver mousse. Albeit everything didn't have a "ton of flavor" so to speak, simplicity is sometimes what you need and everything worked for me. Would definitely go back, but probably for brunch again because the ambience is very fitting for that IMHO.

Yelp
Great vibe and tasty food! Enjoyed the fish and the cocktails. They also have a patio out back when the weather is nice!

Yelp
One of my favorite brunch spots in Brooklyn. I just love love love the back garden. I went on a chilly rainy day but the back garden with the heater was perfect. My go to dish is the cream brûlée French toast. It comes with apple sauce on the side and that's amazing! Especially with coffee. Only served during brunch so I only go for brunch lol But the other brunch dishes are just as good. Great service and great food.

Yelp
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who had multiple great experiences here, so I was super excited to try, but my own experience was disappointing. My reservation was for an outdoor table, but when we arrived at 6, the whole restaurant was empty except for one party, so I asked if we could be seated inside instead. The host firmly said no and that there would be no indoor availability until 8, so we were seated outside. About ten minutes after we sat down, the host lead another party of 2 outside who had outdoor reservations (said so by the host himself), but they expressed that they did not want to sit outside. Then, to my shock, the host promptly seated them inside instead when he told us there was absolutely no availability. I do not understand why they were treated differently than us and I felt discriminated against. It might be because we were POC and the other party was two white women. The appetizers we ordered, steak tartare and escargot, both tasted fine, although not very flavorful, so no real complaints there. The leaves in the salad that came with the steak were not fresh and had yellow spots on them. We brought this up to the server, who took it to the manager, which I appreciated him doing and they gifted us a free blackberry sorbet. The price point of this place is too high to not be using fresh ingredients in my opinion. Additionally, when we finished our meal at 6:50, half of the restaurant was empty still, so we could have 100% sat inside and left before the table had to be given to someone else.

Yelp
Came here for brunch and it was a lovely meal! The Eggs Louie is so delicious, I really enjoyed the sauce and crab and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I would definitely order it again! The French toast crème brûlée was also very yummy. I really appreciate how big their portion sizes are, it makes the price worth it. The service was very friendly and quick. Would recommend making a reservation since it gets crowded quickly.

Yelp
French Louie has a HEATED back Patio space ideal during COVID-19! It was a cold night to be eating outside, but you gotta do what you gotta do. We warmed up with these awesome earl grey hot toddies and enjoyed the inviting date night ambience. Our service was also excellent, from the host who checked our temps, to our waiters. The Steak frites here is amazing! My steak was perfectly cooked and flavorfully seasoned. Fries came out hot and crunchy. For dessert, I liked how the dulce de leche/caramel and ice cream contrasted the crunchy outer casing of the bananas foster profiteroles. No complaints here.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place and for so long we have been walking by for a wbut never had the chance to get there because they are close on either Sunday or Monday. Finally, we made it and order some rose and sparkling wine, those were well priced for the quality. To try the food we went for a tuna salad and it's when all was ruined for me!! The tuna was old and smelly, the fries were soggy and not appealing at all. Sadly it didn't go as I was expecting. The restaurant is cute but disappointing.

Yelp
Quaint place, loud but lively. Steaks frites were really good and service was even better.
