Frita's is the most eclectic, quirky eating experience in Key West, and we absolutely loved it. It was all outdoor seating, on benches, with cigar box paper towel holders, on uneven ground, with eclectic decorations like a Frida Kahlo picture to a superman mannequin in a phone booth. The more you look, the more quirky things you find. This is 100% my and my wife's style of place to eat. You can feel the hustle of grass roots capitalism as it's core.
Now it gets better. The food.
I ordered Plantanos Maduros (or sweet plantains) and French fries to go with my Cuban burger. My wife shared these items and also ordered Conch Fritters. Let's say we got all the fried food groups : )
The fries were thin and crispy and delicious.
The plantains were perfectly fried and it was quite a large serving for the price.
The Cuban burger lived up to it's billing, with an interesting patty made of pork and beef and nice seasonings.
From the outside this place is easy to pass by, as it looks like a handful of bench tables under umbrellas. Don't pass by. Stop and Enjoy. There are dozens of more commercial restaurants you can try on your visit to KW, but Frita's stands out as a true islander experience.
